PCA Heads into Finals with High Stakes on the Line

The battle for supremacy in the Peel Cricket Association hots up this weekend as the final’s campaigns begin across all men’s grades from A Grade – F Grade. Reigning premiers in A Grade Warnbro have the chance for back to back premierships, as do Shoalwater Bay in B Grade, White Knights Baldivis in E Grade and Warnbro again in F Grade. The premiers in, C Grade and D Grade will all be new as the reigning premiers in both grades (South Mandurah and Halls Head) failed to make the finals in 2022/23.
The Wyllie Cup semi finals this week sees raging hot favourites Halls Head take on Shoalwater Bay for a spot in the Grand Final. Halls Head defeated Shoalwater twice in a week recently after winning the Retravision Premier T20 competition and then comfortably beating the Seals again in the league on the Saturday. But finals bring out the best and worst in players and this match will no doubt be a hotly battled contest, especially with Halls Head coming off a two week break (Last round bye and competition bye). White Knights Baldivis, who are looking for unprecedented success across the competition with teams in every finals campaign will look to end the premiership hopes for Warnbro who snuck into the top 4 with a final round victory.
White Knights and Halls Head battle it out in the B Grade first semi final for direct passage into the grand final whilst Mandurah and Shoalwater Bay will clash to see who will continue into the next week of finals. White Knights may have 7 teams in finals action this week at least (2 teams in F Grade), but Shoalwater Bay will also have solid representation across the grades with sides in A-D grade finals action. Halls Head have sides in A-C grade finals.
PCA Ladies Shine in Women’s Country Week
Peel Cricket Association nominated TWO teams into the recent Women’s Country Week Competition held in Bunbury over the long weekend.
A great outcome highlighting the growth in the game in Peel, both sides competed well and there were some real highlights across the board throughout the weekend including a couple of wins for Peel Blue and some close run contests in other rounds. Brooke Hutton (Shoalwater Bay CC) blasted scores of 82 and 77 in the first two matches on day one to start the campaign off with a bang, whilst Julie Ophel (Halls Head) scored 31 not out on the opening day also as well as taking 2 wickets. Danni Render (Halls Head) highlighted some great innovation in her innings of 21 versus Bunbury Red with some effective reverse sweeps which raced to the boundary. Jeanie Thompson, who captained Peel Blue continued her good form from a victorious Ladies T20 season with South Mandurah to make 39 not out versus Bunbury Blue in round 3. The highly anticipated round 4 ‘derby’ between the two Peel sides saw Peel Blue victors by 26 runs. Suelee Christie (South Mandurah) top scored for the Blue team with 26 not out whilst Rosie Marino (Halls Head) took 3 wickets for the Maroon side, and then also adding 21 runs in a strong all round match. Helen Moir (Pinjarra) took 3 wickets for the Blue team.
The competition enabled over 20 women from the region to enjoy hard ball cricket in a more competitive environment than the competition they participated in during the season. The feedback was very positive and the Peel Cricket Association looks forward to being able to provide a hard ball competition from the 2023/24 season onwards.

We should have been enjoying an EPIC T20 Clash between PCA T20 Champs Halls Head and BDCA T20 Champs Marist CC - but alas a spot of rain on Thursday evening played ruins to that and washed out the match. A real shame after so much was done to get the game up and running.
Remember it was a charity match in aid of a WA Country Cricket Legend in Glen Dehring who has unfortunately been diagnosed with Cancer recently.....the fund raising was to go to his family to support him in this time of need - The cricket community is FANTASTIC in times of need.
In other news, the Peel Women are heading to Bunvegas (Bunbury :) to participate in Women's Country Week. For the first time, the PCA has been able to nominate TWO sides in the competition which is a great step forward and a certain sign that we will have hard ball cricket for the ladies in season 23/24.
We also review the FINAL round of the Peel Cricket Association and announce the finals make up across the grades.
And finally, a review of the Belt Up Country Cup Final against the BDCA last Sunday.

Brendan "Ned" Ingle from Mandurah CC come on for a chat
He's coming off the long run as he attempts to break the official Guinness World Record for bowling a ball off the longest run up, it will be over 7.5 km before he reaches the crease at Meadow Springs to deliver the first ball of the match in the E Grade game vs Warnbro.

We started with FOUR....Now we are down to THREE teams in the race to Glory in the RETRAVISION PREMIER T20 LEAGUE 22/23.
Shoalwater Bay CC through to the GRAND FINAL looking to defend their title after a comprehensive victory on Tuesday in the 1st Semi Final of the T20 league.
The Seals also continue on their winning form in Wyllie Cup action with their 5th win on the trot, comfortably beating Waroona and consolidating their place at second on the PCA A Grade League ladder
Jack Manuel - Halls Head Run Machine is HUMAN after all (finally gave the middle of his bat a rest this week :))
Perth Scorchers are ready to light up Optus Stadium this week......will this affect PCA cricket this weekend??

WA u19 Squad announced with Teague Wyllie (c), Corey Wasley, and Jye Donald were all selected. All still have strong ties to the PCA, so we wish them well and every success.

Spoiler Alert, we did have some technical difficulties (horrendous internet coverage) which made the recording a lot harder than it needed to be and cut short the planned recording. But we did manage some good content.

Who Turned The Lights Out??
Drama a plenty in the Peel Cricket Association as the final over of a tight RETRAVISION PREMIER T20 clash between White Knights Baldivis & Singleton Irwinians is abandoned in the final over of the match.
We had 100's, 50's and five wicket hauls across Round One of the Peel Cricket Association as we got off the mark in season 2022/23.
We had the obligatory TIED match, as seems to be the norm in our little league, and the Prez gets something off his chest in the PREZ's RANT!!

Hi Folks,
Well, I had to get the boy back on.
Third-time guest, Teague now earns himself "Friend of the Show' status.
We all watched the young tyro do his thing on the world stage where he was Australia's leading run-scorer at the ICC u19 World Cup, and earned himself big plaudits along the way.
His efforts earned Teague selection in the World Cup team of the tournament too.
Not bad for the boy from sunny Mandurah.

FINALS TIME is fast approaching, for some it's exciting, for some the season cant wrap up quick enough.
We had our 4TH tied match of the season, HOW??
We also had another HUMDINGER of a match last Tuesday in the RETRAVISION PREMIER T20 LEAGUE - this time it was for real as it was the 1st SEMI FINAL.....Singleton Irwinians (defending champs) played the up and comers in Shoalwater Bay and BOY OH BOY WOW WEE did they provide some entertainment......Congrats to Shoalwater Bay who went through to the Final in a fortnight's time...we chat about that game
We also have a chat with Ash Wyborn, President of Halls HEad CC...the man is ever elusive, but I tracked him down and we got a good interview. Let's see what makes him tick and how it's all tracking for the boys (and girls) at Peelwood Reserve as they head into a finals campaign with a few of their sides.

The boys get the chance to defend their crown and go back to back in A Grade of Country Week. The PCA D Grade side will also be playing off for the silverware.
We highlight how great a Tournament young Mandurah Tyro Teague Wyllie is going in the ICC u19 World Cup, where at the time of writing this he has an 86, & 101 in his tally of 193 runs from 3 innings, opening the batting for Australia.

Tim is a current Singleton Irwinians Player, former captain of the club. Tim is also the current WA Country skipper and the most recent skipper of a national winning side when WA took out the Australian Country Cricket Championship a few years back.
Tim has a great history in Country Cricket and is a warm favourite of the PCA.
We also review Round 12 including an absolute RUN FEST at Meadow Springs in C Grade.
We also review what was an absolute Hum Dinger of a game in the Retravision T20 Premier League between Waroona & Singleton.

Episode 11 of The Pavilion – The Peel Cricket Show
Pre Xmas edition
This is a shorter edition, but it will still be AWESOME!!
We chat through scores from the weekend, the rain-affected weekend that threw the cat amongst the pigeons.
We will also chat to Teague Wyllie on the back of his selection in the Aussie u19 squad who head off to the Caribbean in January.
A shout out to the ladies in the Beyond Bank Ladies Competition and in particular South Mandurah & Mandurah who painted Falcon Reserve Pink on Sunday in their Pink Stumps Day.
A great event, and a fantastic charity to support. I have seen some great photos courtesy of Stuart Parker at Mandurah CC, and it looked like the ladies had an awesome day out. Pink everywhere, including some cool-looking socks.
Well done to all involved and I hope that whilst fun was important, that there was some good money raised and more awareness of the great work done by the McGrath Foundation.
A reminder that there will be no show next week as there is no cricket, but we will look to be back the week after with a bit of a 2nd half preview as well as a look forward to Country Week.
Merry Xmas and a safe new year to all…..lets all return back to face up to the first ball post xmas.
Also, remember to keep an eye out on your mates (male & female) – this time of the year can trigger tough thoughts for people. So ensure that you check in on your mates, ask them if they R OK, and be prepared to listen.
THE MIRACLE OF XMAS occurred last weekend at Arpentuer Park in Baldivis!!
About 4 or 4:30 pm, SHOALWATER BAY CC pulled off the win of wins vs White Knights Baldivis........how did it happen you may ask?

We had tight games, we had blow outs....we had HUUUUGE TONS, we had a few 'Michelle's.....but most of all we had ROUND 10 of the PCA!!
We had RETRAVISION PREMIER T20 LEAGUE action between Secret Harbour Dockers and the South Mandurah Falcons...we chat about this match and the league as a whole at the half way point of the season.

The clear headline from last week's PCA Round Three Action.
With washouts in not only 4 of the 5 A Grade fixtures on Saturday, we also had yet another washout in the RETRAVISION T20 PREMIER LEAGUE.
But plenty of cricket was still played in grades B - F, and boy did we celebrate some remarkable milestones.
