Brad Cheese shared a prophetic word for the church family and Pastor Brian introduced our new sermon series on Colossians.
Pastor Jamie begins our Passion Week with a teaching time that focuses on the traditional misconception that Jesus cleansed the Temple to make it holy again, when in fact, like the cursing of the fig tree, it was an action parable that foreshadowed the coming judgment of Jerusalem.
Pastor Matthew continues our series in Mark with his message on the paralyzed man who is brought to Jesus by four friends. Matthew looks at the relationships of the 4 main groups of people in our story, the crowds, the religious teachers, the 4 friends who carry their paralyzed friend to Jesus and the paralyzed man himself, and shows how they can represent where we are at in our walk with God at different times in our lives.
Jamie brings us the 3rd message from Mark 1, focusing on the new authority Jesus was teaching and ministering with. When he taught it was with a new authority that the Religious Teachers of the Law did not teach with. This new authority also expanded over casting out demons from the possessed and as well healing the sick. Jesus was bringing an in-breaking kingdom that all people could know and expereince in every day life! It. And this new life is also for us to experience today!
Jamie continues the series on the gospel of Mark with a look at Mark 1:9-13. He highlighted the affirming voice of the Father, who declared that Jesus the Son was his beloved when he was baptized. From this, Jamie emphasized that what we do doesn't make God love us any more or any less.
Jamie begins this series on the book of Mark by highlighting John the Baptist's ministry of preparing the way for Jesus.
Zach begins the New Year with a messgae from Ephesians 3:14-21, encouraging us to be resolute in leaning on the God who can do "immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine."
Continuing in our "Whispers of Christmas" Advent series, Tim looks at Titus2:11-14 and explains that we live between Christ's two appearings. In the first, Christ came humbly as a child to make God's grace visible and salvation available, the second will be in glory. Living between these two realities ought to motivate Christians to live in a manner worthy of the Lord here and now. The message ends with an application of God coming to be with us in Christ.
Jack continues our "Whispers of Christmas" series with a look at Galatians 4:4-5 and John 1:12-14, encouraging all to respond to God's offer of welcome into his family that is available through faith in Christ.
Jamie continues our "Whispers of Christmas" advent series with a message from Deuteronomy 18:9-18 where God promised to one day send Israel a prophet like Moses who would speak to them all that God commanded. This text points to John 12:50 where Jesus said that he came to speak the words of the Father.
Jamie begins our "Whispers of Christmas" advent series with a sermon from Genesis 3. He shows how sin caused toil, disfunction, pain, struggle, brokenness, and breakdown of God's good creation but that one day a seed of woman would come and crush the serpents head to provide redemption for fallen humanity (3:15). This is the first whisper of Christmas that points us to Jesus.
Jon and Anita McCarthy and family live in Papua New Guinea, serving at a school for international students. Anita reads Ephesians 1:3-23 in Tok Pisin, and Jon preaches from that text, reminding believers who they are in Christ.
Jamie concludes our "Better Way" series with a look at Hebrews 13:9-16, calling us to go to Jesus outside the camp and willingly enduring the pressures that we will face in so doing.
In this sermon based on Hebrews 12:1-2, Tim encourages us to continue in the faith by: embracing our race, ditching the robe, heeding the witnesses, and looking to Jesus. The sermon concludes with sharing communion.
This week Jamie looks at the famous "hall of faith" passage, emphasizing that faith is more than believing the right things; it has an active component. He highlights the faith of Abraham, looking at the quality of faith he displayed.
Jamie continues our "The Better Way" sermon series with a message from Hebrews 9, encouraging us to consider how Jesus' sacrifice makes it possible for us to approach God.
Preaching from Hebrews 8:1-13, Jamie explains how the new covenant in Christ is superior to the old covenant.
Continuing in the book of Hebrews, Ron and Joey Demers read Hebrews 3 and Tim teaches how to guard against spiritual drift: by considering Jesus, by chosing to believe every day (living in a manner consistent with professed belief will evidence its authenticity), and by being in community. The sermon culimates in sharing communion.
Brian walks us through Hebrews 2; highlighting 4 reasons that Jesus became human. He then pulls the application directly from the first verse: "We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away."
Continuing on in the Better Way series in the book of Hebrews, Jamie makes the case that although angels are real beings, Jesus is far more worthy of worship than them.
Kicking off this series, Jamie reports on his sabbatical, then sets the context for the letter to the Hebrews. He asks us to consider the following question throughout the series, "Is Jesus better than ____________ in my life?"
This message begins with a testimony of how the Lord has been doing his work of transformation in Peter Wolf's life. Then, Tim wraps up our Psalms for Life series with a look at Psalm 145, emphasizing the grace, mercy, slowness of anger, and steadfast love of God in Christ. We respond to the message by sharing communion.
Tim continues our Psalms for Life series with a look at Psalm 33 and how it gives us a window into the worship of God's people. We see in it that Israel's knowledge of God shaped their worship of him, as should ours. As God's people through Christ, we have even more reason to praise our wonderful God.
David and Patti Ens (international workers in Cambodia) give a short report, then David preaches from Psalm 121. He encourages us to remember that we are a kept people, under the watchful gaze of the Lord.
Through the lens of the book of Job and his own life experiences, Dwayne Toews encourages us to endure suffering, to trust God, and to stay in the conversation with Him.
In this message, District Superintendent Mark Peters tells the story of Esther and encourages us to consider God's providence in our own lives.
Pastor Zach brings us a message from Psalm 51, a Psalm of David's confession and how we can apply the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus to our lives as we wrestle with our own sin.
Using Moses as an example, Rev. Mark Peters, our Pacific District Superintendent, calls the church into deeper intimacy with Christ.
Mike Evanson brings us a challenging word from Psalm 133 on the pursuit of harmony in the body of Christ and despite the ugliness that can happen between church family there can always be beauty because of the presence of Christ with us.
Jack encourages those who are destitute, discouraged, or disollusioned to reach their hands out to the God whose hands are reaching out to them.
In this sermon, Tim asks what picture of God we get in this passage. From it, he suggests that 1) He speaks, 2) He sends, 3) He cares, 4) He keeps his promises, 5) He does miracles, 6) He hears and acts. This is the God we can be confident in, trust, and obey.
Representatives from five of our community partners (Cyrus Center, 5 and 2 Ministries, Gateway Community Church Extreme Weather Shelter, Joshua House, Inasmuch Society) read Scripture while Brian unpacks the theme of "Shelter."
Brian unpacks how Peter and John continued telling others about Jesus even after being warned to stop by the authorities in Acts 4. He connects this with a refugee couple's story that we hear through a video interview between Brenda and them.
We are excited to honour Pastors Brian and Zach, and to affirm their calling. Representing the District Office, Dwayne Toews came and led us in an ordination service charging Zach and Brian to serve faithfully. Brian and Zach then each gave a short and encouraging message.
Our guest speaker for this Missions Sunday is Don Orr. Don and Betty Orr have over 20 years of experience as International Workers with the C&MA in Poland and in the Middle East.
