The Godfather of Leadership, John C. Maxwell, says "Leadership is influence - nothing less, nothing more."
Although fitness is about pushups, protein and pumps, we need to think bigger than that. We need to be a leader that people will follow.
That's where your ability to influence and persuade come in. The leaders who made the most impact in the world had strong communication skills, they had vision and they explained "the big why" behind everything.
Your leadership shows up in many ways. - The way you remind the team of your mission. - The energy and enthusiasm you bring everyday. - The simplicity of how you teach complex topics. - The vulnerability and relatability you bring to the discussion.
People would rather follow a leader who's always REAL than a leader who's always RIGHT.
If you come off as "Mr/Mrs. Perfect" with your training, nutrition and recovery than you are pushing away your clients. It's not relatable. They want to know what you struggle with and if you have the same insecurities as them.
Coaches!! This one is for you!!
On this week's episode of the Lunch with a Punch Podcast, I'm sharing some of the mechanic strategies that make a Rock Star Coach. These are things like nutrition knowledge, coaching cues and the 3 C's of Coaching when you are training your clients. This is what separates the good from the great Coaches.
This is an extremely valuable episode and I'm excited to drop it today. Listen on all major podcast channels.
The fitness industry is littered with unprofessional Coaches and Gym Owners. It's sad they disrespect our industry but the way we can take it back is by setting a better example.
A professional pays attention multiple layers of their reputation... - Their attire, communication with clients, conduct on social media - The pay attention to their first impression because you only get ONE - They think about their long-term reputation, not short-term attention - And they are NOT afraid to charge what they are worth
The highest paid people in any company are the ones that can sell to grow the business. They have leadership roles. They train future team members. They hunt for the company so everyone gets to eat.
If you want to learn how to sell yourself better, then you need to focus on this trait with the tips we share in this episode.
In this episode, I share 5 of the most common reasons that people stop losing fat. It can be frustrating and confusing to put in work at the gym or in the kitchen only to see no results.
Listen to these 5 reasons for stalled fat-loss to see which one might apply to you.
And I'm not here to just point out problem, I give you a solution for each reason so you know what next steps you need to take to move the needle toward progress.
Some people try to lose fat on their own while others hire an expert to get them there faster. Hiring a Coach is one of the fastest ways to bypass obstacles and get straight to results.
I’ve hired a Coach for surfing, playing the drums, business, marriage, dog obedience, public speaking, nutrition, and so much more. And every single time I think to myself “that was totally worth the investment.”
But in this episode I share some of the hidden reasons to hire a Coach. Listen and tag me on your stories with your feedback on today’s episode.
This weeks topic is the ultimate way to create a sustainable nutrition system. Too many diets require a high amount of sacrifice, have a laundry list of rules or force you to do too many calculations (net carbs) to stay on track.
Most people need SIMPLE to stick with it long term and that's what the 5-5-5 system is all about.
This is a short episode that packs a big punch. It's about why you need to be direct with the people in your life. Too many people are lacking the ability to communicate openly, honestly and clearly and it's hurting them.
Being direct solves your problems quicker and it helps you to get more clear on what you want in life. It forces you to get a clear vision of what you want and articulate it.
I share a story of how being indirect created an immense amount of stress for someone I recently met and how they were forced to be more direct.
In this episode, I discuss a common issue that is often brought up in the gym - a slow metabolism.
But here's the truth, age is NOT the biggest factor behind a metabolism slowing down. It's something else that will probably surprise you.
And I share what you can do to re-ignite your metabolism so you can burn the most amount of fat everyday.
Share this episode with anyone who you think is struggling with fat-loss and needs answers.

This is a SHORT episode (12 minutes) but it’s packed with value that can help you or someone you know to get more healthy and fit.
We don’t have weight loss issue in America….we have a “keeping it off” issue. That’s because most fat-loss programs are unsustainable and that leads to unsustainable results.
As a Coach, I’m not interested in helping people achieve short term results, I want them to lose the weight and keep it off forever. That makes me feel like I’m making a change in people’s lives.
And the emotional roller coaster of losing and gaining weight can beat you up mentally. And it can make you give up entirely and believe (falsely) that you’ll never reach your goals. In this episode, I share the 3 most common fat-loss mistakes and how to avoid falling victim to them.
For many of my clients, the term “meal prep” can make them feel triggered or stressed out. In this episode, I made it a much easier experience that’s simple, tasty and quick.
You don’t have to subject yourself to eating the same thing all week or eating bland, boring food. Listen to this episode to hear some of my best meal prep tips so you can get the best results possible.

Systems are a powerful things. One of my favorite books is Atomic Habits and in that book, the author James Clear states "we don't rise to our goals, we fall to our systems."
I agree with that so much because I see outcomes as the result of a system.
Everything in our life is a system. We have a way of doing things. We have a system to how we shop, go to bed, wake up, prepare our foods and so much more. Some call is a routine or habit but I think that if you look at it as a system then it seems much easier to change.
The final thing I will mention is that every system is perfectly designed to get the outcome it's currently getting. So, if you want to change, you need to change the system.
Don't miss this episode because it will help you to upgrade you systems!

I’ve known Jorel for almost 20 years. We had multiple matches back in the day on the independent circuit of pro wrestling. Jorel has an interesting story. First off, he’s named after SUPERMAN which is very rare.
And Jorel marches to the beat of his own drum. He follows a vegan diet and explains why in this interview. He’s in the best shape of his life and talks about how he got there. And now he’s still involved in the wrestling industry as a manager known as Enoch The Enlightened.
We had a wide ranging discussion with some great tips on how to reach your goals in life.
Coaches around the world are educating their clients on many topics. After all, nutrition education has been removed from our school system so it’s up to them to inform their clients and followers.
In this podcast episode, myself and Jayson Duckett talk about the top 4 topics that Coaches want their clients to learn so they can reach their fitness goals.
A Coach is one the most important jobs in the world. Heck, I would argue it's the MOST important job in the world. When someone has a Coach they are push outside their comfort zone, they grow and they do more than they thought possible.
And today I had the pleasure of interviewing a client of my online coaching program and a Coach in her own right - Diane Ballard.
She's a Coach at Denham Springs Fit Body Boot Camp and changes lives everyday by helping people to achieve their fitness goals. But she also enjoyed being on the receiving end of coaching so she can get better too.
Diane shares some insights into her fitness journey and common myths that she sees among ladies who are trying to lose weight. There's some great information in this interview for anyone on their fitness journey.
This episode is about one of the most important factors involved in your success - CULTURE. The people you spend time with and how they act has a direct influence on the trajectory of your life. A group of people who have common beliefs, thoughts and actions make up a culture.
Martin Rooney is an expert on culture because he's developed it in the teams and athletes he's coached, his fitness brand (Training for Warriors) and in the rooms he speaks in front. He's a student of culture and he shares what's he learned along the way in this interview.
Martin has a new book "High Ten" that is releasing in July 2021 and it's all about creating a winning culture. I know you will get so many takeaways from this discussion and it will force you to audit and evaluate the cultures in your life. You can't fly with the eagles if you hang with the turkeys.
This episode is pure gold for Coaches. I sat down and talked shop with the founder of the Nutrition Coaching Institute - Jason Phillips. We had a wide ranging discussion from selling fitness, the power of communication and creating connection before prescribing a client with a plan or action step.
One of his most quoted phrases "education drives compliance" is the foundation of what he teaches and you will see many examples of that during this conversation.
And he has a really cool take on a question you should ask yourself before you begin a new fitness program. It's something I guarantee you haven't heard before!

Get strapped in because we got DEEP on this week's episode with my guest - Kara Reyes. Like many people, she battles the excuses that are so easy to use. She admits to not getting long term results because she wasn’t in the right mind state. She needed to go through more pain.
Looking back, she said “I didn’t love myself yet.”
Later on, she had the realization that change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change. She dropped her excuses and started chasing her greatness.
✅She no longer said “I don’t have time” and she shares how you can get past that. ✅She shares a “magic number” of realistic workouts you can do each week ✅She also gives you a ways to prioritize daily and set new goals to stay motivated
I know you will find so much value in today’s episode because we literally touch on every excuse that people use from staying fit and explain how to obliterate it so nothing holds you back.

Emily’s story is relatable for anyone one their fitness journey. The desire for quick fixes and fast results. The frustration of hearing conflicting advice. The comparison of seeing other people losing weight but the same program isn’t working for you.
Once Emily joined our program at Lead The Way Fitness, she got two things that are hard to find when you’re on your journey alone - community and accountability.
Her Coach almost immediately remembered her name (which shocked her) and used it every time he saw her. And he expected her to be at the gym again tomorrow which is an expectation she didn’t want to let down.
Secondly, she found a community of like-minded people. A group of folks who are working on the same problem (health and fat-loss) while supporting each other along the way. And they swap ideas on where to find comfortable shoes and sports bras. 😜
Today, Emily has lost 7.5 inches from her waist and has gotten stronger on her main lifts. She has transformed physically and mentally. She believes in herself more than ever and it all started by hiring a Coach to cut through the BS and to give her a proven process.
Listen to Emily’s inspirational story on this week's show.

My guest this week is someone with a really interesting background. She was Director of Operations for McDonald’s and today she helps people to burn off fast food calories. I told you this would be different!
It was my pleasure to interview Alex Keck who was a client at our Victorville, CA location of Lead The Way Fitness. She went through an incredible transformation by working with our Dream Team of Coaches.
Alex got lean, strong and more healthy with intense focus. She had, and still has, the eye of the tiger! After going through her transformation, she decided to step into her next challenge in life - becoming a Coach.
Now Alex is a Coach at that same location and is changing lives daily with her superpowers of high energy, motivation, empathy and connection. I’m super excited for you to her our discussion on today’s podcast.

What if you achieved a six figure income....and you were miserable? That's exactly what my guest, Amber Fuhriman, went through during her law career. She thought money would solve all her problems and passing the Bar Exam would bring success to her life.
That was not the end of the road for her, it was the beginning. It's when she was forced to confront that she was chasing money to run from her demons and now she had to turn around and face them.
This was a really fun wide ranging discussion that included business, weight loss and evaluating our mindset around money.

I'm extremely excited to release my interview with my all-star client - Ivette Kumpe.
She has gone through adversity in many ways. One of the struggles she openly talks about in this interview is her battle with emotional eating.
Anyone who battles with it (including me) knows that food can easily become part of wins, celebrations and victories as well as a way to cope with depression, anxiety and stress.
She's learned how to overcome it by working with a Coach at Lead The Way Fitness by asking questions to better understand mindset, nutrition and fat-loss with a long term outlook.
One of my favorite parts of this interview was talking about how a Coach can change your program as things change in your life. I know you will enjoy this episode and inside look at Ivette's inspiring story.

In this episode, Dustin discusses misleading labels found on many packaged foods. Labels like "all natural" mean absolutely nothing and won't guarantee you're buying a healthy product.
Listen and learn to this weeks episode so you're fully aware of what you are buying and putting into your body. This is a critical for anyone interested in their health.
In this episode, Dustin shares 3 strategies that will help you get 6 pack abs without doing a single crunch. If you want to lose stubborn belly fat and keep it off forever, this episode is for you!
Matt and Nick Jackson are a tag team pro wrestling phenomenon. I first met them in 2000 at one of their backyard shows where their parents built a ring to support their dream of being pro wrestlers.
They've traveled the world countless times and have a track record for stealing the show when they are on the card.
The Young Bucks have completely transformed the popularity of tag team wrestling and have blazed their own trail in an industry that used to be made up of giant men only.
They've proven that you can achieve your dream as long as you don't give up and chase excellence. I'm constantly inspired by their story and I'm extremely grateful to be their friend for decades.
This interview was a look back at our history and our friendship began along with where we are today and a look to the future. Enjoy this is an exclusive and rare interview with Matt and Nick Jackson.
I'm so excited to have my guest Jesus Rodriguez (a.k.a Ricardo Rodriquez) on the show today. I first met him as an independent wrestler named Chimaera and we had multiple high-impact matches together.
After putting in years of hard work, he got offer a dream job with the WWE as the sidekick to Alberto Del Rio. Together they made a great bad guy duo and a classic act in wrestling history.
But things got messy when the ride came to an end. Jesus turned to substance abuse as he tried to figure out what life looks like after the WWE.
Many professional athletes find themselves in this position. They tie their identify to what they do and not who they are. I'm excited for you to hear Jesus and how he walked the road to self-discovery. It wasn't easy but it was worth it.
Enjoy this great discussion between the two of us.

The more I work with people, the more I see how tremendously powerful a strong mindset can be.
I often wonder why one person can let an excuse hold them back while another person doesn't allow a single excuse get in their way. I can spot the "fire in the eye" from a mile away.
Not everyone has it but once they do, they are an unstoppable force. As I observe the people with "the fire" I realize it's 100% mindset.
One person can say they can't find time to workout because they're busy. Meanwhile someone with 10x more on their plate will MAKE the time. Why is that? MINDSET.
One person can say their life is hectic with 3 kids and they can't find time to eat healthy. Meanwhile another person with 5 kids can cook healthy meals for themselves and their family. Why is that? MINDSET.
One person says that living a healthy lifestyle is hard. Another person says living an unhealthy lifestyle is hard. Both are right. Bot have different mindsets.
As I learn more and more about mindset, I become aware of the thoughts and beliefs that don't serve me so I can make room for what does.
In this episode, I talk about the difference between a closed mindset and growth mindset and what you can do to develop your mindset daily.
In this episode, Dustin discuss the three C's of coaching and how each person needs a different one depending on where they are in their fitness journey. This topic is directed towards Coaches but it can apply to anyone.
