Welcome! Here we look at words we use every day with fresh eyes. We see where our words have come from, their definitions, how we unconsciously use them in how we speak each day and spitball new ways to make the most of our language from here. You will not be able to look at the old word the same again. Such fun!
Signing off, saying goodbye (for now), and feeling good about it is totally doable!
In this very last episode, I share with you an experience of how welcome a break-up can feel and how knowing that by us closing something we change the space.
Thank you for trusting me in your mind and ears for as long have we have been here.
Thank you for being the you as only you could do.
Kx
Hello Human,
This is a dry run, as in dry uncomfortable, bumpy in bits, but got it done kinda thing. To bring you on board, I have to give you the opportunity. So, we start with what agency means and how it connects to language-shaping behaviours (aka agency through language).
Listen loosely and know it will only get smoother now that we've started,
Kathy
Still haven't got my glasses on, but as soon as I wound down and closed the last conversation I remembered why I actually hit record in the first place.
It's here I paint an experience for you to create in your own mind to begin to notice where you might too may know how to do something, however, your fuel consumption may be much higher than you know yet.
Loosely listen loosely on the best day of the week*
Kx
*For those that don't know yet, Tuesday is the best day, usually on one's lunchtime stroll.
Hello Wonderful Human 👋
I haven't got my glasses on, so this description could be interesting...
In this conversation, I share with you something that has been coming together over the last couple of years. It's only now that I have enough experience behind me to have the wisdom of hindsight.
So, I start to share what's been noted, noticed, and a nuisance from this experience and pop a seed for you to plant that this is something that could rival even the knees of bees and the slicing of the bread movements.
Listen loosely, curiously, and with your head tilted to the left,
Kx
Hello Wonderful Human,
This is one is for when you're walking or sitting in a moment (not driving).
This conversation with me, myself, and me mind is one of riddles and rhymes. I share a moment of what it's like to move off a spot that feels like it's sucking oneself into the sorrow and sadness of feeling stuck.
You see these words have nothing and everything to do with you.
There is only one way to listen and that's going in and out with your mind open to a way that words can move mountains in moments. The key is to feel the freeing feelings of listening to each word.
If you feel yourself wandering off, come back and hear only the voice.
Click and collect that which is yours (today) and leave the rest (for next time).
Kx
Hello, Wonderful Listening Human,
First, I'll set the scene...
I just finished my coffee with my hubby and reading a word from the dictionary
(today's was 'ugly' and it was a curious conversation indeed...anyhoo...)
...I looked at a story I storied on Insta and saw a typo.
My physiological reaction was one I don't love the tickle it tickles.
I was reminded of a ponder in progress about the purpose of pairing professionalism with spelling.
Immediately, I had the urge to pop in an ePisode.
So, in my bathrobe, hair in a blind bun, and no glasses I turned the computer on, hit record, and...
....I like where it sits now I've started to say aloud what I've said aloud just now.
I encourage you to listen loosely, click and collect what's yours to connect with and leave the rest for the moment.
Kx
P.S. For those that listen to the end, yep, I uploaded and typed this, still with no glasses and can't see💩 on my monitor (and yes, I used a screen reader to review before hitting publish).
Hello Wonderful Human,
Hot off this human human-ing and a ponder in progress, this ep is a combination of conversations and realisations of container-ing what I do in the smallest form.
Here I share three phases, three steps, these moves I've been walking you through in your words for the longest time.
It's here you can listen to a human in business find a sense that was waiting to be found to ground and grow from where they are.
It's a raw ramble of recent connections made in my mind while you weren't looking, so it's not yet in its simplest form, but it does have a solid form forming.
Listen loosely and remember to love your words as they're waiting to give you all the love back,
K
Howdy. Who says howdy any more? Haha, a funny thought.
Anyhoo, this conversation with me, you, and me is about achieving nothing or nailing your nothing.
You know those times when you say, 'I'm going to do nothing,' and then finding yourself feeling a sense of let down because your nothing wasn't as good as what you thought it was going to be?
This wee walk among what the words are up to in shaping our behaviours will change that.
There is one condition...only you can do it.
Listen to the end to concrete the strategy in your minds and notice next time what you have the urge (aka tickle) to add on after you hear, 'I'm going to do nothing.'
Talk soon,
K
Hello Wonderful Human 👋
This is what I would say to you in a message if you were waiting to hear from me about a thing.
Something I've learned with experience is that while time waits for no (hu)man, it can bend, stretch, suspend, and be what we want it to be.
So, rather than creating content for a regular publish date, instead, I continue to consistently share when the content is cooked to be clickable to be collected in ways that only you can do.
Until when, thank you for being the you that only you can do.
K
In this short conversation, I share three wordings ways to review, write, and (actually) connect to your business vision.
Listen loosely—take what's yours and leave the rest.
Until when, keep curious
Kx
In this spare (because I felt inspired to record it in the moment) conversation, I share with you one way I (actually) use my business values. This example walks you through how I set myself a condition in my decision-making to shape only relevant information to reach me through my channels. It's an example of transparent choice through clear wording ways.
Listen loosely. Take only that which is yours and leave the rest.
Kx
In this conversation with me myself and in my mind, I walk you through three ways you can put your values to work and continue to grow to be better in your business-ing ways.
Listen loosely. Take what's yours and leave the rest.
Kx
In this episode, I share the shift of focus of what I will be wording here and why it's important for me (and can align with you).
Also, I introduce you to my focus for now in building myself to be better in business. It came down to playing with one word and what it already does in the natural world.
Listen loosely. Take what's yours and leave the rest,
Kx
If we were to jump on the dog and bone today, I'd share with you how a campaign approach is working to build my confidence and that of the humans who pop in and out of my orbit.
I invite you to walk a walk with me, hands hanging loosely cupped behind your back as we both lazily look at the ground moving under our feet and I talk excitedly about my camping approach. Then as we dawdle a little off detour to build a little backstory soon we weave back to my main point of how I'm loving myself sill in leverage-ing, and overlay-ing one way of doing a thing to adapting it to do another.
Listen loosely and take what's yours,
Kx
If you were to call me this morning, I would probably lead you into the path of this conversation about empathy. I've been pondering empathy as a behaviour through a lens of language and wandering in ways of fleshing out the blurred parts and pieces of how we do this empathy thang.
This ponder is still a little undercooked and in progress, but I share it with you trusting you will know where to take it and leave it.
There's something in this one, me thinks.
Listen loosely and notice what you notice.
As you are,
Kx
In true Kathy fashion, here's a ponder that pushed its way forward in the cue of curiosity. I need my mind today to do other things, and this thought was blocking my way. So, I share it with you for two purposes.
One is to plant the seeded idea of snuffing the idea of the burnout cycle-ing.
And two is to model a process of exhausting (moving out and tiring) some words to make way for others to come through.
Listen loosely and take that which is only yours today.
Kx
This week I was listening to an astronaut talk through his information processing to travel the 8 minutes and 40 secs from earth to not earth. He didn't know he was doing a specific language strategy, but now that he has shared his experience with me, we can now tap into when and how he was doing it.
Here I share with you the ponder in progress of how we can improve how thinking and behaviour performance through two words....
If...then...
Listen loosely and wonder where can try it out next.
Kx
In the conversation, I share with you a story I've been keeping in my back pocket for a day, such as today. I share it because the conditions were right.
Listening lightly and enjoy,
Kx
P.S. You're welcome to giggle at me when I lightly lose my shit at my husband, wondering if he could possibly eat his breakfast any friggin LOUDER?!!!!!
I remember when people didn't know when you were home (or not) or on the line (or not) because we didn't have caller ID and we didn't have 'on the line'. Instead, we had phones on walls and answering machines. Nowadays, we can get sucked into the pressure of assumptions that we are available as needed.
Yesterday I learned a pair of words that effortlessly travel together and create the most wonderful choice in how and when we answer the phone. Here I walk with you in these words, drawing out their path long enough to show you the range of options we can create in the everyday act of answering the phone (or not).
The purpose and point of this ponder in this shared word among friends is to look at the every day with fresh eyes and to grow our deliberateness in what and how we do what we do do so that you can continue growing into being your best you.
Here I share a language strategy that I have been trialling for over half a year, and it works! It focuses the mind and energy.
the best part of doing the thing this is way is that you can create measures for your efforts to know you have invested your important resources for a purpose on purpose.
It's here when you need it to pick it up and play as only you can do.
Laters,
Kx
I share this conversation and strategy to inspire another way to word your why.
This way does tickle and does come from the pits of your purpose.
I have adapted it from recently witnessing (like yesterday) a couple of wonderful humans physically change everything they were talking about in what and how they do and take my breath away in a sudden drop of cabin pressure. Their voices, their bodies, everything they were connecting to in that moment stilled the air in the room and silenced even the silence.
Everyone leaning in to absorb that sense being shared.
This is another way we can connect and collect to carry in our toolkit in the way we work—the key is to talk to one.
To help you, I share the language strategy that lays the structure for you to follow and build your wording way to knowing and sharing your why.
I share my why in this new way here. It's clunking in her first interaction, and with time I trust she will smooth.
I invite you to listen loosely and collect that which you connect to from here.
Kx
In this conversation with me, myself, and you in mind I walk you through the rooms that can move you from conceiving an idea to communicating it.
The ride is bump and a little distracted in parts with fun side streets stopping up to yell 'SQUIRREL' and just s quickly we land to make sense and know what the following three questions can do for us the next time we feel the pop in the passion of idea-ing.
Remember to ask each question aloud and notice your response (aka answer). Move only to the next question when you are confident you have all of your answer. And remember you can answer your way (i.e., writing, speaking, singing, dancing, feeling...find the way that words best for you).
What would happen if I shared this idea with someone else now?
(Answer)
What would happen if I didn't share this idea with someone else now?
(Answer)
Knowing what I know now, do I want to share this idea with someone else or not share it at all or circle back [insert your chosen time period] to ask these questions again?
(Answer)
From experience, the answers can fly at you in blinks of bees eyes, or they can waddle in the wonder over an hour or days. However, they travel for you when they ask, I recommend you shape your experience to be enjoyable in the process of asking and answering your way to what you need.
Until when, love your words so they can give you all the love back.
Kx
Okay, this is another vulnerable AF episode where I share a moment, my strategy for moving from an anxiety episode (without a triggering event) to calm in the conversation and techniques I do to move my mind and body to sync up to a workable level.
This is me moving from talking about something to modelling how it could be.
I'm not talking about it, I'm sharing it with you as I do it with myself. One of the most important parts of sharing wording and language here is for you to do you and you being the first one you go to for support. Often these moments occur when we are alone or outside of work hours, by building these skills by you for you...you can be the you you want more and more.
Listen loosely and take that which is yours to take today.
Kx
My dear curious, wonderful listener,
This episode is important to me, and I share it with the trust you'll take what you need from it. This is my sharing one of the sparks firing my passions and actions to shaping our experiences on our terms.
Today, I share with you my experience in a depressive episode. I share it for the purpose of hearing how words and language can create beauty in an experience. Not many are talking to be beautiful yet. Depression is a normal part of me. I believe this as it's been with me my whole life. Knowing what I know now in pairing my words with my focus and my behaviours, I can be strong in all the moments, show my people that I'm safe, and shape the behaviours of those in my orbit (even temporarily) to do as I need them to do.
Listen to the beauty and easing weight of a moment that will soon pass ... this I trust.
Thank you,
Kx
I realised today that I was thinking positive! I didn't mean to. I was just doing it after a thing happened I was reacting and responding calmly and almost inspired.
What the heck?!
In that moment I was tempted to undo what I was doing, even though it was working in the most wonderful way!
What the heck?!
Talk about being human.
Listen if you want to warm up to the idea of growing your thinking negative and thinking positive skills to shape your experience your way.
Kx
This one is for those that talk about 'switching-off' and 'social media detoxing'.
While no one was looking, I did a thing. It wasn't big enough to register on your radar, but it has changed my world of being well each day in the biggest way.
Like all episodes, I recorded this conversation in a moment I was inspired to share.
It wasn't ready before now and because it's pants off Friday and I was in the shower...it made sense that it was the right time to share this little big experiment that takes something many talk about and how I'm walking in it now....and it's getting easier.
This is an example of moving my motivation from the stick to motivating myself through carrot-ing.
Listen loosely, because it's a freshed-inspired moment, I talk fast and with a wobble. The wobble makes it different and settles into your inspired pipeline easier because you already know all of this because you have said yes to 'switching off' or 'social media detoxing'.
I'm bringing a new angle of this dangle and a vibe that is contagious when you truly listen loosely. The words don't even matter in this one. Take the feeling you feel at the end and show it off for the rest of your day...
Kx
Listen to this episode when you want to understand how reframing can be creating a drag on the efforts you're putting into getting where you're going.
Listen to this episode when you want something better and to get it sooner and easier.
Listen to this episode when you want to hear someone love what they do and do what they love so that you can click and collect your warm human-ing vibes for your day.
There are so many layers coded into this conversation, so listening many times will see you level up each listen.
Listen loosely,
Kx
This episode was not the one I was planning, and yet it's here.
It's a fun way to not know what a Linguistiologist does but what it's doing.
Listen loosely,
Kx
What, two podcasts in two days...I promised you to up load as I record. My schedule is run on inspired moments, and these are wonderfully random.
Listen to this episode if you want to learn an upside to talking positive. I share with you the reflection and inspiration I collected from talking to friends yesterday and how we ended our conversation with that pleasurable energy of joy and tiredness (think the sensation of sinking into a food coma sleep without the stomach stretching pain, only that pleasure of lounging back feeling fulfilled).
Listen, laugh, and learn loosely 😉
Kx
Listen to me wonder and wander along this ponder.
I heard a sentence that stood out from the many I heard yesterday. The sentence matters, but this episode is more about the process of the ponder rather than a happy ending. Here I share with you a little of what it's like for me to process the world through my ears and talking mind.
I narrate this experience for those that are curious to hear another's way of expereince being human, and I step you through this if you're one that is yet to find your way of articulating your normal, how you do you, and how you can share you with others.
Listen loosely and frolic freely for when you hold on to anything too tightly, you'll miss the point.
May the gist be with you in your day,
K x
Below is the LinkedIn post I refer to in this episode:
My dream is to work with national and international professional sports coaches and their teams.
Oh, my brolly ducking gosh 😜
Have you ever not said something in fear of being laughed at?
Sharing my dream client just now to a school of scrolling strangers here feels like I've rocked up to work and forgotten my pants again
(Yes, it happened once, and no, it wasn't that I forgot a change of clothes, I should have actually had pants on by this stage, and no, I'm not tellin' you the rest of the story, there's been enough exposure for a Monday. Now, back to sharing my dream...)
Just now, I was watching the Australian Diamonds and Jamaican Sunshine Girls medal.
It's my dream to be at trainings, review huddles, and support benches to clarify messages through positive language-ing.
I'm looking forward to the day I can say, 'Hi, I'm Kathy Rast, the team's Consulting Linguistiologist.'
Oh, this will be a proud day.
This is what I'm working toward.
But first, messaging.
Before what we do is desired, it first has to be relevant, then important, then make sense, and then to be available.
Messaging through the lens of language is building. I know this is true from the conversations I've been having since showing up here regularly.
The thing about putting your dream out for others to notice can be laughed at. It can also do something else.
If you're like me and haven't said your dream client out loud yet, I invite you to share it with me below.
Go on, be the ball, it's in your court 😉
Listen to this episode to learn the difference between being motivated by what you do or don't want.
We call this positive and negative motivational messaging.
After listening, you may be curious to notice how much we are motivated by the negative, and now you'll know why.
From here, listen loosely and notice your true motivations leak out in your language.
Kx
Listen to this episode if you want to hear how a fellow human who has had a long, long relationship with anxiety and depression and how she's confident in showing up each day...and very comfortable to talk about herself in the third person 🤪
This episode follows one of my down days. A day that would have previously had me in bed for a week, now is totally different. A down day now can still have an late and early rise, it can also have me genuinely enjoying professional and personal interactions.
The key is in how I've changed my language from, 'I suffer from chronic depression and anxiety', to 'I experience depression and anxiety'.
It's just a thing that me, my mind, and body do and we've come together to find ways we can play on the same team.
Listen loosely,
Kx
Kathy scale of swearing: A cool 2/5. A few passion f' bombs, which are they their part. hold them lightly.
This is a brain dump. Literally, I was sitting at my computer, and talking to myself wasn't working. So just knowing it's out there for others to know it's a thing is somehow more helpful #humansarefunnycreatures
Here you'll hear me have a sense-making chat with myself about finding a way to be okay with sharing me with others and others being okay and not okay with it.
Listen to this episode if you want to hear a fellow human move from kicking herself to being okay with who she is and how she does what she does.
Listen loosely,
Kx
Did you know that I struggle to read and comprehend words?
For reals. It has been a big shame for most of my life because I didn't get it like everyone else.
More and more, with technology, it's getting easier. Why?
Because my leading information sense is auditory. A lot of people process information visually. Not me. And I know I'm not the only one ... now.
You're welcome to listen to this episode to learn a little more about what it's like to see the words through one's ears. It can be really helpful for yourself or if you know someone in your world who asks to talk things through, hear explanations, or learn through listening.
Listen loosely,
Kx
Listen to this episode if you want to hear me ramble a little in my thoughts about some sense making I'm doing in my own world at the moment.
It was inspired by realising I can comfortably go at my pace in building my business.
In this episode, I'm in the process of making sense and I share at the end some of the other strategies I use myself to continue to grow in all the ways.
These strategies are some of my favourite ways of thinking and continue to shape my comfort with my well-being.
Listen loosely, which means it's helpful to listen when you're doing something every day like walking, cleaning the house, a puzzle...something you can do with your hands to let your mind safely wonder along with me (because I did wander a bit in this one in the middle).
Kx
No swearing in this one...I know, right? New podcast, who dis ;)
I'm trying something and it may or may not work. I've realised if I say what it is exactly, it kinda fucks up. So, I'm not going to tell you what it is exactly.
Instead, I'll share what you'll know by the end of this episode. You'll know:
What get's my gravy going.
Why you should never start a microwave in the dark.
Know the relationship between language and communication.

Yesterday I told my husband how I was feeling a feeling of guilt that I couldn't shake off.
My skin was crawling, and after listening, he said to me, 'Really, you feel guilty for that? Reealllyyyyy?!'
He's a reality barometer in my orbit because he naturally feels the world differently to me—he's highly visual, and I'm the total opposite.
This got me thinking...
Listen to this episode when you want to hear how one human processed those feelings. I step you through what I felt, what I can do now I know what I know, and how you can do this yourself. It's no hard and fast step by step, but rather one for those that can pick up key points layered in the cracks of the story of another.
Listen loosely,

Kathy Swears Scale: I totes can't remember if the F'bomb was in here. It's a Friday, so I think I tick the E box out of habit. Remember 'swear words' are like chocolate, how you experience them is up to you.
Often I read what I write as I walk the talk. My favourite and easiest way of understanding something is to hear it. So, it makes sense that I show my words in both written and spoken words.
This article appears in the Brand You Magazine—Empower Issue.

Kathy Swears Scale: Zip. Zero. Zilch.
In this episode, I share with you an afternoon rambling about how I use my energy throughout my day to enjoy being in my mind, body, and connecting with people—the fundamental human wellness-ing elements.
Something to know about me is that I'm not interesting or special, despite what many tell me. Instead, because of my love of language and human experience, I notice things many don't and have the words to describe it.
Listen if you want to hear another way a fellow human human's in the every day, because I have the strongest belief that by shifting our angle in our experience by the smallest degree (word), we can choose how we experience our experience (e.g., conversations, work, learning...).
Listen loosely,
Kx
Kathy Swears Scale: Zip, zilch, zero swears.
Can you recall a time you sat in front of someone and asked them for help or needed them to do something for you and felt that pressure of having to know it all? Or has someone said, 'Why didn't you ask for help?' Or, 'What's stopping you?' These examples of articulating what you're experiencing, being aware of blind spots, and what we need and from how....this is the skill of knowing oneself and being able to articulate it—self-reporting. When you don't know it's a thing, self-reporting can feel really heavy and uncomfortable. When you know different you can experience it differently. In this episode, I share one of my stories that inspires part of my passion for language in our every day. An experience of being aware of oneself is one thing. It's about how we describe that experience to others that blocks and unlocks what happens next. I intended to share how this works in the business setting, but you'll giggle with me as I change the plan partway in the conversation. Instead, shifting the focus toward collecting examples of self-reports and what you can do with them now you know it's a thing. Listen loosely, Kx Kathy Swears Scale: Totally PG bordering G rating.
This episode can be listened to as a buyer or a seller of something. I'm talking about an earworm I couldn't shake as I was reviewing and writing recent sales pages for a couple of clients. They said the same words I had said previously, 'I don't like the idea of pain points in my marketing'.
So, I share this conversation to start a different angle of the dangle of pain points in selling.
While I make every effort to stick to one point here about moving the connection to pain points in selling, you can giggle as I catch myself in 'Squirrel' moments and then quickly bring myself back to the main point (yes, I too am continually practising the art of clear messaging).
Pain points in selling are an industry of themselves, and I truly believe we can shape the market by learning what they do and what we can do instead. This conversation contributes to a broader conversation that I'm sure (hope) already exists in the world, and this one just has my language angle.
Listen loosely, and then you can giggle as you notice the pain points in your world. Giggle as you see businesses doing the very best they can with what they have.
Expert listeners...for those that want to come at a different angle, shift this concept of pain points to how we sell our stories to get buy-in from others to get their support...a very interesting angle to talk about another day.
Kx
Kathy Swears Scale: Holy sh!t it's Friday and I didn't swear once!
In this episode, I share with you part of my experience of how I realised I was experiencing what many may call a depressive episode. It's funny, in here I didn't say that word once because, like cheap chocolate, it doesn't do it for me.
Instead, when you listen, you will find another way to experience this experience. Especially as this (depressive) episode had no suffering, no pain, or little loss of observable functioning.
It cleverly whispered under my radar far longer than I still can put my finger on.
My suggestion is to focus on part of my experience that resonates with you, and at least one of the things I did that may be helpful to you to do in your world. Like me, it's not about labels but about how we can shape our experience one step at a time.
If you are to share your experience, I suggest focusing on what you know now and what you can do now that you know.
Listen loosely,
Kx
Kathy Swears Scale: None. There are many Fs I give about this experience, and they are all wonderful, softly written between the lines of my experience here.
Have you heard of a USP? A USP is our unique selling position. They are how we describe who we are, what we do, who we do it with and what it achieves. Some call it an elevator pitch, and others have no friggin idea what I'm talking about...yet. If it helps, think of your USP as your bio on Instagram. Short, to the point, and let people size of how you are relevant (or not) to them.
Listen to this episode if you want to hear how I realised I was USP-ing to collect confusion and slow what I'm creating behind closed doors. Then listen to how you can use this to shape your experience now to influence people to look where you want them to look (and what it gets you). This is relevant to both those working in their own business or for/in a business/organisation.
This conversation is a wonderful weaving path to something I didn't plan, and yet it works. It's funny how our feet always find the ground, maybe not as easily as cats, but like dogs as we shake ourselves off, smile and feel the joy of a moment.
Listen loosely while walking in your lunch break, cleaning the back of the fridge, or laying on the grass making out shapes from the passing clouds.
Kx
Kathy Swears Scale: No wonderful swears in this one.
Listen to this episode if you want a fresh view of what you can do when you're witnessing others in crisis. This is one view from a human who has been on the front line of crisis in its many stages and positions.
If you only read this, the takeaway is to know that it's important to have more than enough in the tank to continue to do you and to share resources over the long haul. With fatigue, many can overlook the role they can play in a chronic crisis or prolong recovery efforts. Yet, by recognising the pull of mirroring the feeling and energy of the acute crisis, we can be helpful for a long time to come.
Listen loosely and talk curiously with your people.
Kx
Kathy Swears Scale: Just a couple of Fs to give on this important sowing of conversation seeds (and it's a Friday).
Have you ever said, 'Oh, you must have...been so scared...felt awful...' or 'That must be so frustrating....hard...' or all the versions of what you say to someone (often well-meaning) after hearing something bad. Or did you hear something and had no idea what to say?
Listen to this episode if you're ready to know what's helps to say and not helpful to say...for both of you. Listen to this episode if you're ready to really hold space and not make it about you (because it is for and it totally isn't for them).
Clear as mud?
Listen loosely, laugh at what I learned not to do when you have false teeth and take what you learn into your day from there (I mean the language strategy, not the false teeth learning).
Kx
Kathy Swears Scale: Think this one was a straight-up PG rating people...which is a surprise because it's a Friday!
WARNING (YES I'M YELLING): THIS EPISODE CONTAINS THE BEST WORDS THAT ARE TYPICALLY CONSIDERED OFFENSIVE, RUDE, SWEARING.
THE PURPOSE OF THIS EPISODE IS TO SHARE AN ALTERNATIVE VIEW ON A DATED DEFINITION.
ONLY LISTEN if you are ready, or already do, love to consider the full range a word can extend.
This conversation is sparked because I say Ricky Gervais beautiful serious 'After Life' was rated R because of one word and the very next thing I watched had horrific violence and was rated M. What the ?!
This led me to ponder how it may be time to shift our baseline.
I warn and encourage you to hear how the C word in my house has gone from the worse word to one of love. Swearing has a purpose in my orbit and no word is left behind. Swearing is only used for a specific purpose and is not used for another. When these conditions are met, swearing aligns with safe and flowing conversations.
Listen curiously with a soft eye and cheeky smile in realising the wonder of these words. Just by being curious we can change that old story and shape a new.

Kathy Swears Scale: All the best swear words said with love. So many innuendos as this was recorded on a Friday. Only listen if you already feel comfortable with swearing or want to grow to.
This episode if for the conversation starters, decision-makers, and those that lead from the front and encourage from the back. For those that love being in the middle, this is an important place to echo what's growing.
Listen to the episode if you have recently had a conversation about changing the date of Australia Day (or a similar conversation in your part of the world).
Here I suggest that changing the date is not what we want, actually it may be drawing out the change that is desired by slowing the conversation.
Here I dance with an evolving conversation.
We can move the action quicker by moving from ambiguity to getting specific now.
Ambiguity gets agreement and details get action already did.
From here you can giggle at the grey that decision-makers love in 'Change the Date' and be a part of supporting them to make decisions in real-time.
This conversation is shared with wholehearted respect and courtesy to all the events that have led to this very moment, may they show us what we can inspire our future humans to grow toward.

Kathy Swears: Like one F-bomb I think and a bitta slang.
Have you picked your word of the year yet? Yes? No? Whether you have or you haven't, you can find out what you can do here. Listen to this episode if you're up to making your word of the year stick by listening to me up my human functioning levels in 2022 with the lens that is my word of the year. This episode builds on what I found after writing the blog on my word of the year. Click here to read the article (or listen...that's right, I read it to you). I'm loving this blog and really upping my long-form writing there as I get to put all the licks and tricks with my writing there as I choose. You'll giggle hearing the little slips of Harry Potter and the sensation created with my wording way. Like, smelling still waters. Do they smell crisp and fresh for you or kinda stanky in their stillness. Check it out and see it in context to notice what you notice. Until then and then until, thank you for showing up here without being told and being open to curiosity-ing as only you can do. Kathy x Kathy Swears Scale: Totally PG, mostly twanging in my slanging in this one—it's a Tuesday after all.
Listen to this episode if you are one (or you know someone) who has the continual urge to jump from one thing to another and fight with all your might to stand still.
You're in good company and you're perfectly normal. Being someone who knows a thing or two about chronic, I adapt my knowledge to what my pain had helped me hide for so long...my creativity and curiosity.
In this episode, you will hear a little of my evolving inner commentary. Imagine me holding a microphone running after my mind which is flying around the room like a balloon that has just been untied.
There is a beauty in this randomness when you breathe slower than me and listen to the rhythm of the fast beats. Find your rhythm and discover all the hidden parts I've plugged in just for you.
Shortly, I'll share my word for 2022. Having listened to this episode now, you'll soon realise the importance of this word in shaping a daily life of quality.
Listen to this episode if you're about to get a dose of honesty served to you.
Here, I share with you my current efforts and energies to shape my experience of taking in feedback to be received as it's intended by the beautiful human sharing it. By making the experience feel better, you can invest less energy into feeling the fight-flight-freeze physiology and get more blood to your brain, which means you can take in more information and process it easier and easier.
Oh yes, it feels icky and I share with you what icky means here to give you further language-ing you can use to describe your experience and again reduce the energy investment (connection) in feeling big feelings.
Instead, make it simpler.
Come back to this episode when you want to grow and practice growing, your story about being safe and learning to love the feedback process so that you can supercharge integrating the notes you receive.
Listen loosely and with an open heart.
K x
Kathy Swears Scale: Like one F-bomb.
Do you find feedback fun or frustrating? Do you look forward to hearing what you don't know yet, especially when it's going to potentially change what you are doing? Do you have the energy? What if shaping your story about feedback frees up up energy to make feedback-ing experiences reach their full potential? Listen to this episode if you want to hear another way you can shape your experience of developing and deploying a new business service/product and applying real-time changes. It doesn't have to be hard and it does feel icky at times, and the outcome is you get stronger sooner. The point is that you can shape your experience, and by listening to this episode you will have a few different things you can collect in how YOU can do you in this process. Does it apply to not business-ing? (we shall call this careering) Yes! Feedback has been shaped as not what it is. I've not met a lazy person that has listened to my podcast, which means you're not lazy and you are curious. This means you know you can shape receiving feedback with a little fun and a lot of success quickly. It means the struggle is there for as long as it needs to be and then you get to work (feel the feels, discover what you need, and get it did already. Hint: Notice when you, or someone else, say(s), 'You've done it wrong,' and change it to, 'Righto, what's preventing this from being right now?' K x Kathy Swears Scale: None in this one, just a little slang.
Following the last episode, I continued to unlock a collection of things people love and hate about how I talk with them. In this episode, I share how I look at people differently. It both pushes people away and draws people in.
Listen to this episode if you want to catch the bug of looking at people with strength and ponder if you see people as being broken or strong. Then you can wonder how does this reflect how you see yourself right now.
We only see others as we see ourselves. It can be as brutal as it is empowering to realise.
Regardless, doing it with love and wonder, because you're here, that means you're must be friggin' amazing!
Kx
Kathy Swears Scale: Instagram doesn't bleep out pissed off, so I haven't considered that as a swear word.
Listen to this episode if you want to put your toe on what it is about how I talk that intrigues your scratchy curiosity so much.
It's also helpful to those that find themselves in conversations that regularly piss people off.
Sharing a new light on a dark subject, holding something with humour, or coming in so opposite can be misunderstood as a lack of respect, not taking things seriously, and not getting it. Many talk about fighting, speaking up, getting people to...
The simple fact is that we cannot make anyone do anything they don't want to, especially if it doesn't align with what's important to them. To do so (and expect the same) is potentially unsafe for us all.
Here you can come along the windy path towards how I have learned to know when to say something, how to make it more welcoming than not, knowing that whatever follows is not about me, and know when to shut the f* up (a language strategy I share with many).
It's all about safety. It's always about you relative to your world. Knowing where we start and stop and how our bubble influences others is a truly magnificent skill to grow.
Listen loosely and take what is yours.
Kx
Kathy Swears Scale: I say a lot of p's in this one I think. The Ps help capture that reaction felt when something's too far out our worlds it can be felt as a threat.
Listen to this episode if you're open to strengthening your boundaries and actually using them. In this episode, I'm starting a conversation that'll be littered throughout my presence on-the-line—all with the hope and joy of knowing that inspired ideas will be sprouting confetti all over the joint. Everything starts with a seed. This is only the beginning. Hold it lightly and allow the light to help it to grow. Kathy x Kathy Swears Scale: Lots of silent F's not said aloud.
Remember how I said this podcast is my verbal journaling and I'm sharing it here because many told me they like to watch, giggle at me, and learn new ways of processing information. You know when there's no music that I was fired up and ready to jump in. What's interesting is how the thing that rubbed me up the wrong way (caught my attention) wasn't really what peeved me off. Instead, it was the crashing of several ponders that I had been throwing about over the last few weeks. And it rose up in my body like fire.
There's a very high chance this episode doesn't make sense to many. But I trust at least one part will help you, hence I choose to share it with you.
Listen to this episode if you want to hear logic collide with a surge of passion to turn up my pilot light and quieten to a comfortable volume as the logic revealed itself. What's happening is that I'm making sense of many sources of data in my world (what we humans are built for) and with that, I carry what I need in less than 15 minutes of talking to myself.
Your turn.
Listen Loosely.
Kathy swears scale: C'mon, I was peeved at the start, this one definitely has swearing.
Listen to this episode if you want to learn how you can shape receiving feedback in real-time—making the process something to look forward to, to make easy, to know that you're safe and about to discover what you did and didn't know yet.
Here, as always, you're listening to my processing in almost real-time. Discover how language-ing and noticing the stories we tell ourselves can be so friggin amazing and achieve those things we're told.
Feedback can come in many forms. Here you can notice how I process external feedback from another wonderful human while I pair and integrate it with my cognitive and biofeedback (what's happening in my mind and body).
Kathy Swear Scale: No swearing here. I know right! WTF?!
Oh, this is an exciting lesson I learned recently.
If you're new here or know me well, something changed recently for me. I found my voice and for the last two months, I've been taking her out on a whirlwind romance that's going to stick.
Listen to this episode if you have felt that urge or feel that urge to justify yourself and want different.
Listen when you want to shape what you do at the next networking event.
Listen if you want to hear a human that is loving her mind silly and sharing all the overflowing bits with you...there's plenty to go around.
Listen loosely and enjoy,
K x
Kathy swear scale: Said F once...I think!
Extending this week's Word of the Day - Iterate.
Iterate reminds us that nothing is done exactly the same twice, or more. Learning to move from the big to the small detail is key. That means if it feels the same, work out what's the same and then dive into the detail. If it feels too much, move back up to the big picture.
Instead of saying it is different, I suggest saying it's a little new. This connects enough to what was and assumes that there is not that wasn't there until now.
Links promised:
Kathy swear scale: Like two Fs I think I gave here!
Do you push through? Fight? Battle? Overcome? Get over things?
What if these very words are added unnecessary weight.
Creating check-in luggage, when you only need carry on.
Here I suggest we use navigate. It has a clever way to capture all the parts of the words above and builds in the assumption and lightness of adjusting to what happens to us along the way.
As promised, you can access the transcripts from new episodes on kathyrast.com
Kathy Swear Scale: None.
Listen to this podcast when you want to hear a conversation that you can have with yourself about shifting and shaping something that may be slowing you down from being your best self!
Many people want to work with me because I have a relationship with words that seemingly makes the words dance easily into a graceful step.
Like you, I'm human. Like you, my strength is also my kryptonite when fed sugar and watches way to many scary movies before bed.
Here's a little pep talk to myself, recorded for you to listen to when you need it too.
Kathy's Swear Scale: There are many F's to give in this episode, so there are many a spoken. That means, if you don't like swearing, don't listen. For those that get it, you will know the importance of swearing here (especially when you hear my key change when I do!)
If you are new to me, probably, don't start with this episode.
This episode is for my experienced ears in upping your self-talk game.
Listen to this podcast if you want to listen to human who has all the words to piece together things not yet connected.
Seriously, this is me talking to myself aloud and sharing with you me making sense of something I didn't know until I recorded this conversation. Seriously, I'm excited what I discovered in here for me.
I'm referring to my values (what's important to me) in the context of my language business:
The Kathy L. Rast Values are:
While all important, they are listed from most to least important. With each of the lower values feeding the ones above it.
Listen and detect when something is not yet connected and then connects. Notice my voice's: * Speed * Volume * Smoothness of words * Quick and sharp turns between seemingly different topics * How a sound at the start isn't really an issue and the same noise at the end (when I'm really pulling the pieces together, high thinking energy required) is too much. Interesting, isn't it?
Anyhow, let's share what and when and how we choose to with ourselves and others.
Kathy swear scale: Maybe a PG, there may be a slang word in there (and it's a Friday, WTF?!).
Listen to this episode if you have said to yourself (or have been recently):
I'm not normal
This is not normal
I have imposter syndrome
I have to look confident (but I don't feel it)
What will they think if they find out?
People will think I don't know what I'm doing
They won't trust me if they really know what I'm thinking.
These are a couple of thoughts that can occupy a second in our minds. They are words I've heard behind closed doors more than I've had hot chocolates (holy sh!t, that's a lot, right?!).
Whenever you need or want to know that you are normal, listen.
Whenever you find yourself sliding down that pole of dispair in feeling like a fraud, listen.
Whenever you want to collect an ummmmph to get you over that little bump you are calling a blocker, listen.
Kathy Swearscale: I'm passionate about this topic, so there is plenty of swearing. Only listen if you understand that swearing is how I shout in a quiet tone and add exclamation marks to my spoken words.
P.S. Yes I do have a lip in this one, as my plate is still adjusting and can affect my speech quality #human-ing
Listen to this episode if you have:
ever compared to another
wondered if a relationship needs a tune-up, or
want to part ways with gratitude.
Here, I talk about one of the primary relationships in my world with Nicole Smith, The Artisans Solutions.
This relationship is important to me for many reasons and has a wonderful balance of business and personal with clarity and safety.
Why? Because we have established a process of calibration. Some call it brutal honesty. Um, that shit sounds painful. Calibration is about adjusting and adapting to events, feelings, things...human-ing in personal and business worlds.
This relationship is an excellent representation of all of the relationships in my world. All of my business and personal relationship have continual calibration. Since bringing this in with my people and making it normal for all of us. Some have moved away, being not their thing now or ever, and others have felt the feeling of increased safety and strength. With this, we have each continued to attack the same in new people we meet.
It's a wonderful skill to draw on continually.
I look forward to sharing and modelling ways it shows up in and around me.
Note: Nicole gave her expressed consent before publishing this episode with the seal of approval, 'Press publish. Amazing. Such a power ep lovely. Imagine if everyone had this skill. What relationships could have been continued, and that may have been diverted.'
Such powerful words, all before her first coffee for the day #superhuman
Swear scale: Totally tame, said shit once.
Listen to this episode when you want to let yourself know how to make something yours and why it's important. Learn from my F'up that I realised I did again and have put steps in place to change it from here. Moving an old strategy into a new one. The difference between someone talking the walk and walking the walk (aka skill/knowledge/experience) is whether they have integrated it. that means, connecting the dots between: * why it's important to them (values) * what it looks, sounds, and feels like in the way they do it * how and when it shows up in their world (personality), and * how they share it with others (high skill of adapting to many).
Swearing level: Decent, because I F'd up and needed to get all the built-up F@!#s out so I could discover what was next (plus, this was recorded on a Friday).
You're invited to listen to my thoughts. I'm having a moment and it feels like no matter what I do, it's not working yet. It's funny, I thought this episode was going in a different direction. Where I landed truly surprised me. It was all sparked by this week's word of the day: YouTube https://youtu.be/to0s_iouIk0 Instagram https://www.instagram.com/tv/CT0XzFsl_pv/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Facebook https://fb.watch/80YgSn6Fm-/ LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/posts/kathyrast_wordoftheday-wtfdoineed-success-activity-6843687442118250496-6zKA
Two weeks ago, I decided to step away from social media.
In two weeks, I realised what I was giving and losing in my own well-being and business success. In short, it took more than it gave, and the return on invested energy hasn't really paid off.
Here, I start a new conversation with myself and you.
This is only a snippet of what I've discovered. In future episodes, I'll build on what I discover with these strategies in place.
A little living experiment that you're invited to come along and take the bits that resonate with you.

Swearing rating: A bitta slang, pretty tame really, and it's on a Friday.....wtf?!
Here I'm sharing how I'm language-ing my experience and shaping my experience in an upcoming human moment. We are told to control what we can control. Here are practical strategies to shape your experience of your experience (i.e., the one thing that only you can control is how you experience whatever is happening to you and around you). From who we let be around us to what we say to ourselves and move through all the feelings that are happening and are coming. Being resourceful is being adaptable, flexible and being our best self in all the moments. You can choose to listen loosely. I look forward to showing up after I'm comfortable speaking again. See you soon, and thank you for coming along on this journey. Kathy swearing scale: Like a low PG (I think I said pissed off once!)
It's easy to confuse a strong feeling as needing to do something.
What if you didn't? What if, instead, you choose what happened next, your pace, your actions, your focus? Are you ready to be okay with that?
This is a story created on the fly has it had been doing doughnuts in my mind since we ran into each other this morning.
It's helping me make sense of being aware of the urge to do all the things now and what I can do with this energy.
This story's going to continue to help me make sense of this surge of energy for a long time to come as I grow and learn what I learn.
You're most welcome to borrow it when you need to step into your driver's seat and navigate your journey.
Do you remember in Episode 3? That episode shows how longs a ponder can simmer in the background. Now was the best day (a Thursday, so it's the second-best day of the week) to level up this ponder. Mindset is a loaded word, and I couldn't work out what was bugging me about it and how we typically use it until now. Come along with me to grow this ponder and how it aligns with your understanding of mindSET. You can check out the video in two places: Instagram @kathy.l.rast.linguistiologist YouTube Ready to join our next lunchtime masterclass? Wonderful, click here to add your name to the list.
Have you heard someone say, 'I need to get out of this toxic workplace?' Yep, this is a popular reason to start a business. Yet, it's the best way to create your very own toxic workplace. In this growing ponder, I share with you the importance of checking your luggage and making sure you know what's in your suitcase so that you can stop looking over your shoulder waiting to be asked, 'Did you pack your bag? Do you know everything that's in here?' Drugs? A body? A bunch of clothes you'll never wear? Toys you don't want to be waved around in the airport? We're talking about how you can discover what you don't want at work or in your business to then discover what you do want. Then, you'll know exactly what you are working towards. Our path is always moving in that direction, it's only when we look back that it was always going to be zig-zaggy. Here's my experience of growing the Two-Step Falling Up process. Getting where you're going soon. Moving from the icky feelings of embarrassment to where always end up...the success that follows soon after. This is helpful for you to listen to this little big experience as it applies to you. Moving from one position to the next in your employed career or in your own business. My story is not unique, it's just I can share the words that you don't know are there yet. The last Tuesday of the month is our next lunchtime masterclass. Click here to come along or sign up for the recorded access. We'll be talking about the F-ing Up process as learning from mistakes to your lesson. Moving from what you don't want and how to discovering what you do want. Let's make it easy-er, shall we?
It's funny how we look at working with professional services for a long time at the start. Much like an arranged marriage, there's an expectation that you will get to know each other as you go along.
What if I were to say, I'm a snogger and we could be a thing, would you want to work with me and trust we will work together for the perfect amount? Both of us always having the opportunity to bump elbows and walk away with a giggle and a cheeky wink knowing the magic we created.
This conversation with myself, and now you, has a wonderful combination of talking as a business owner, as a client, and as a human in the dark. Looking forward to discovering how you connect with the breadcrumbs laid here just for you.

Not knowing created opportunities that I've wanted for the longest time, and now I can see how they can be real. Alicia Edwards from That Budget Stuff is all about wealthy living being more than money. Don't be fooled, Alicia loves talking money and is always sharing new ways we can make the most of what we have to get what we want. We talk: * The importance of stories we tell ourselves. * How we process information differently. * Seeing feelings to feel connected to feelings. * Changing from the inside out to make it easier and longer-lasting. * Values (parked for a future convo). * Possibility verse necessity.
See if you can notice how many times we recount an old story or talk about the specific detail of a past event. This is deliberate and yet we are still talking to those events, just on a different level. Advancing the story. Growing our awareness of how we can change how we experience our experience. You'll hear more about Alicia in Part 2. Can't wait that long? Want to know more now? Wonderful! Greetings are wonderfully unconscious words. How often do you ask, 'what have you been up to?' or 'how are you feeling?' only to kindly follow with a related example of your own. Here we grow awareness of relevance, need to know, and how we can grow our conversations (it's more fun than knowing all the goss!).

What's one thing you enjoyed at the weekend?
How would you like to feel instead?
