It's The Talk of Trojan. Voices and sounds from the campuses of Trojan University, I'm Asia Smith.

Documentary filmmaker Nicholas Ma, along with his father, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, actor Alfre Woodard, and musician Valerie June are all a part of the American Revival show on stage this Sunday at Montgomery's Davis Theatre.

Kyle Gassiott sat down with Nicholas Ma to hear more about American Revival.

Well, what I love about this is that it's not a concert, it's not a performance, it's an experience. So talk about the conception.

Yeah, I made a movie a number of years ago called Won't You Be My Neighbor about Fred Rogers. And at the end of that movie, people would say, where are the helpers? Where are the Fred Rogers of today?

So we're bringing people together for an experience over multiple days.

It begins with sort of this revival experience where there's really a call to personal action and it ends with a chance to actually be the actual helpers in the community that remind us all that we are each other's better angels.

You had a different childhood than a lot of people with your father, Yo-Yo Ma, and watching him in his career. And so I'm wondering, what did you take in terms of that experience into your filmmaking career?

You know, I'm so grateful to have a father who is so extraordinary at what he does and also takes so seriously the importance of giving back in some way. You also recognize that the job doesn't end with the final credit.

Nicholas Ma, thank you so much.

Thanks Kyle.

That was Kyle Gassiott talking with documentary filmmaker Nicholas Ma about the American Revival show on stage this Sunday at Montgomery's Davis Theatre.

From TROY University's Broadcast and Digital Network, Earl Hutto Studio, this is TROY TrojanVision News.

TROY University's Television Studio is celebrating 50 years of training student journalists for professional TV production. Troy Public Radio's Rhianna Wallace has the story.

TrojanVision allows students to anchor, report, and even use backstage equipment to produce news programs.

Director of Television, Aaron Taylor, is a TROY broadcast journalism alumnus himself, and he's eager to assist current undergraduates on their professional journeys.

We pride ourselves on our students getting jobs. They're working all over the country, so it's important that we've got them out there and they're doing good things.

Before he graduated in 2000, Taylor served as a reporter and anchor at the station, which was called TSUTV at the time. Two years later, Taylor returned to his alma mater. Under his leadership, student opportunities have flourished.

We do three live 30-minute newscasts a day, five days a week.

We're the only university in the country that does that many live 30-minute newscasts that are entirely student produced.

And like Troy University itself, TrojanVision has expanded its digital presence over the years. TrojanVision even has its own app available on smartphones.

We are a 24-7 channel. You can watch our newscasts. We have video on demand on the app.

But guess what? You can find the Troy TrojanVision app and be able to listen to a stream, live stream of Troy Public Radio anytime as well.

You can learn more about the 50th anniversary of Troy TrojanVision on the TrojanVision app or by visiting today.troy.edu. For The Talk of Troy, I'm Rianna Wallace.

And I'm Asia Smith. Our executive producer is Joey Hutsu. You've been listening to The Talk of Troy, Troy University's official podcast.

Be sure to listen and look out for future episodes.
