It was an uncomfortable one for ARN in Sydney and Melbourne, a good one for Nova Entertainment pretty much everywhere and a debut for Bunnings Tradio on DAB+
Survey 4 was measured from Sunday April 19 to Saturday June 27, 2026.

It's straight back into the radio year with the release of GfK's Survey 8, 2025 results, as Jen Seyderhelm and Steve Ahern summarise the results and talk to the main players.
For the first time, the last survey of the year has been released in the following year. The strategy for the change in release dates is to get radio audience numbers in front of advertisers early in the calendar year, rather than waiting until March, as has been the practice in the past
Survey 8 was conducted for CRA between Sun Oct 5 to Sat Dec 13 2025, which includes the beginning of the Australia v England Ashes cricket series.
- In Sydney - Smooth FM 95.3 finished 2025 as the No 1 station with a 13% share (up 1.6) and as the most listened to station in Australia
- 2GB's Ben Fordham No 1 on breakfast (down 1.9). Kyle and Jackie O No 1 FM (up 0.2). Jonesy and Amanda go out on a high - up 0.8 to 9.7
- Melbourne - Daylight between Ross and Russ (19.8 down 0.3) on 3AW and Christian O'Connell (11.0 down 0.2) on Gold 104.3 on breakfast. 1.5 drop for Fifi, Fev and Nick on the Fox to fall below Nova, smooth and the ABC breakfast teams.
- 3AW just ahead of Gold 104.3 overall
- Triple M Brisbane leads overall. Nova 106.9's Ash, Luttsy and Nikki Osborne take top spot in breakfast in their last survey as the trio.
- A 1.0 drop for Robin, Kip and Corey Oates on Brisbane's KIIS 97.3, attributable to their dumping then reinstatement during the Survey 8 measurement period. 4BC the most negatively affected this survey by their significant line up changes.
- Adelaide - Triple M also No 1 overall. Great survey for Nova talk station FIVEaa, second on breakfast for Dave & Will behind Triple M and gaining ground.
- No change in Perth with Nova 93.7 No 1 and in breakfast. 96FM was up as they usually are to cap off the year. 92.9 Triple M appeared to pick up listeners from Mix 94.5 with Pete and Kymba returning just as a duo this year hopefully to give better stability for their listeners
- Nova 969 had more listeners in Sydney than KIIS 1065. Gold was the most listened to in Melbourne, but down.
- ABC Local stations were mostly steady, with the exception of Perth, which had a good rise. It is likely that the first Ashes test in Perth in the final weeks of survey delivered the 2.1 share point rise for ABC Perth, with good gains in all shifts in the daytime cricket timeslots.
- Commercial Radio reaches 12.4 million Australians every week.

Jen Seyderhelm tells you how to enter the new Australian Audio Awards and hears about the behind the scenes moves that led to the launch of the new awards.
Steve Ahern's advice is to start thinking about your entry now. "While you're preparing your Christmas best-of tape, put aside some material to use in your audio entry."
He also explained to Jen the behind the scenes preparation that led to the awards announcement:
"We have thought about the importance of radio and podcasting to Australia, so part of the judging criteril will include impact and how your work has helped to build the Australian audio industry... These will be part of all the other judging criteria you would expect for an entry."
Tim Burrowes said:
"When Steve and I realised were were both working on similar ideas, it made sense to work together... the audio sector in Australia is collegiate, so we're glad to work together on creating a ceremony that Australia's audio industry deserves."

Smallzy was confirmed to be joining the KIIS network with The Smallzy Show which will air from 3-4pm weekdays and a night edition from 7-9pm. He will be heard on KIIS 1065, KIIS 1011, KIIS 97.3, KIIS 102.3 and KIIS DAB+ Perth from January 2026. This will mean the end of The Pick Up with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne who previously hosted the early drive 3-4pm spot. It was already confirmed that their Life Uncut podcast would no longer be associated with ARN iHeart. Will and Woody will continue on Drive.
ARN’s KIIS and GOLD networks are going fully national in 2026, in a move which brings Kyle & Jackie O to a new audience in Perth, via a new KIIS DAB+ station. Adelaide’s Mix102.3 will rebrand as KIIS 102.3.
In consolidating the GOLD brand, Perth’s 96FM becomes GOLD96FM. Adelaide’s Cruise1323 evolves into GOLD1323, and new GOLD DAB+ stations will launch in Brisbane and Adelaide.
Jonesy & Amanda will have a GOLD Network National Drive program with Steve Fitton also announcing that he is leaving his drive role with the network at the end of this year.
The new hosts of Mix 102.3, which will become KIIS 102.3, will be Ben and Liam (Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton) with Belle Jackson returning to her off air role as producer.
The new host of KIIS 97.3 will be Lowie, Craig Low, returning to Australia and radio after a long period in the US.

It’s only been just over a month since the release of survey 3. Survey 4 last year was a fairly stable affair. This time though there’s been some significant change at the top with new No 1 stations in Sydney and Melbourne.
Let’s start in Melbourne with Gold 104.3 No 1 in the city. This ends the long reign of Nine’s 3AW and is the first time that station has reached No 1 since 1992. Congrats to them.
Ross and Russ retained top spot in breakfast with Nova 100’s Jase and Lauren No 1 FM and Gold’s Christian O’Connell right behind. Kyle and Jackie O were up .5 which will make ARN happy. The new Triple M breakfast show of Mick Molloy, Roo, Rosie and Titus had the biggest gains overall perhaps in part attributable to being mid AFL season. SEN 1116 too was up across the board.
In Sydney, Nine’s 2GB also lost top spot and while Ben Fordham held onto No 1 breakfast, Mark Levy dropped behind smooth 95.3 in the morning and all day parts and even weekends took hits, except for John Stanley in the evening.
KIIS 1065 however had a great survey. Kyle and Jackie O were up 1.4 and the station 1.1. The other biggest breakfast winner was ABC newsradio which I’m at least in part putting down to coverage of the mushroom trial which has proved to be a listening boon for the ABC. Outside of 2GB Nova 969 had the biggest losses at breakfast but I suspect that the absence of Kate Ritchie from that show will be resolved before survey 5.
Brisbane, Triple M held top spot overall and reclaimed it for Marto, Margaux and Dan on breakfast. Nova 106.9’s Ash Luttsy and Nikki Osborne dropped 1.0 to third in breakfast after just clinching top spot last survey. It’s very tight in the city. 4BH had a great survey, BBQ Bob on breakfast up to a 10% audience share. KIIS 97.3 not so much. They’re now 5th overall behind 4BH and Bob.
Adelaide - Mix 102.3 saw the biggest drop and Triple M the biggest gains but still are No 1 and 2 overall respectively. Triple M’s Roo Ditts and Loz took back No 1 in breakfast from Hayley and Max at Mix. fiveaa’s David and Will saw the biggest improvement in breakfast for the talk station, up 1.7 to an 11.4 audience share.
Finally Perth and 96FM retained No 1 overall from Nova 93.7 but both had more than 2% losses and Nath, Nat and Shaun on Nova breakfast were down 4% but so dominant in the spot they were still clear No 1. Triple M’s Xav and Katie were up 3.4% to sneak into second spot in breakfast with that new this year pairing, and AFL season working for the station which was up 1.7 to a 10.9 audience share. 6ix had a great survey too, up 1.5 overall and 1.6 in breakfast.

In this bonus episode, we look at the results of Radio Ratings Survey 3 that took place today.
Jen Seyderhelm dissects the numbers and we hear from the 5 main commercial radio group content directors.
The overall results for the five metros:
2GB increased their lead as the top station with smooth fm gaining ground also in second.
This was 2Day FM’s first full survey with their tailored to youth format and they’ll be happy with their increases, but bizarrely possibly not in the 40-64 age group which isn’t where they’re targeting. Kyle and Jackie O were steady and top FM breakfast behind Ben Fordham at 2GB. Triple M Sydney struggled the most, I suspect because their new lineup to start 2025 lost Tarsh Belling before the ink was dry on her contract. They have announced show anchor Cat Lynch to replace her today and that stability should help improve things from here.
Melbourne - 3AW is still No1 and Gold 104.3 No 2, but both saw drops and it was a second significant one for Nine Radio even though Ross and Russ’s breakfast cumes improved.
Ross and Russ were No 1 in breakfast but Jase and Lauren at Nova 100 regained FM No 1. They’re audience remained the same, Christian O’Connell’s dropped a percent. The biggest gaines overall though were for ABC Melbourne and Sharnelle Vella and Bob Murphy on breakfast which will be a relief to the pair and the broadcaster. Their 2% improvement saw them overtake Kyle and Jackie O who lost their gains, and more, from last survey. It was also not a great result for Mick Molloy and his crew on Triple M Melbourne. I thought that the sporting season and a bit of time would have seen them improve but not yet.
Brisbane. The top four stations all lost a little ground with Triple M staying No 1 overall and Ash Luttsy and Nikki Osborne on Nova 106.9 in breakfast. The big winner however was 4BH and BBQ Gallagher on breakfast. I feel this also happened around this time last year. Both were up to a 9.3 audience share. Can he crack the top 3 this time around? 4BC also continued its steady improvement.
Adelaide saw a changing of the guard on breakfast in one of the tightest races and markets. Mix 102.3 was No 1 station overall, increasing its lead over triple m and Nova but on breakfast, despite Roo, Ditts and Loz on Triple M increasing their audience share, Nova 91.9 Jodie and Hayesy has a bigger gain to pinch No 1which saw them end Roo, Ditts and Loz’s 20 survey winning streak.
Finally Perth and it was no surprise that Nath, Nat and Shaun at Nova 93.7 remained No 1 on breakfast (but down 2%) however ARN’s 96FM took over as No 1 station. Clairsy and Lisa had good gains on 96FM breakfast to close the gap and this was the one market where triple m breakfast duo Xav and Katie have bedded in nicely and overtook 6PR to sit fourth in that market now. Addition mention to Gary Adshead who departed 6PR last year to join the ABC. ABC had a good survey in Perth and Gary was up 1.2% on Drive.

There's been three surveys this week, two regional ones and today’s GfK Radio 360 Metro Survey 2.
All eyes were on the KIIS Network’s Kyle and Jackie O in Survey 2.
Yesterday Kyle Sandilands said he is willing to pull the pin in the city if the attempts to bed in in that market affect Sydney. That seemed a prescient comment today as, after a couple of big promos, tailored to Melbourne the duo went up by 0.7 to a 5.8 audience share but the cost was a 1 point loss to 12.3 in Sydney and a cumulative audience of near 100 thousand. The losses outweighed the gains.
Jen looks at the talk stations and the Adelaide market, where that city saw a changing of the guard as Mix 102.3 and Nova 91.9 both overtook Triple M.
Cada had a good result and Thy's voice cloned shift did well..

In Sydney 2GB is No 1 station just ahead of smooth 95.3. Ben Fordham is No 1 for GB on breakfast, Kyle and Jackie O No 1 FM. Smooth’s Bogart Torelli and Jonesy and Amanda on Gold 101.7 saw the biggest losses and the biggest gains were for triple j off the back of the Hottest 100 and for Nova 96.9, bearing in mind that Kate Ritchie has been on personal leave from breakfast with Fitzy and Wippa since early Feb. Mark Levy who took over from Ray Hadley on 2GB Mornings when Ray retired last year held on to No 1 spot.
Melbourne, 3AW is a long way ahead at No 1 and for Ross and Russ on breakfast. No 1 FM breakfast belonged to Christian O’Connell who was up most of all and overtook Fifi Fev and Nick at the fox and Jase and Lauren at Nova 100 along the way.
RSN 927 apparently will not feature in GfK surveys in 2025. Radioinfo has reached out to the station for comment.
Brisbane – b105 retains No 1 overall and on breakfast. Marto Margaux and Dan at triple M have closed the gap though.
Adelaide Triple M moved further in front at the top but strangely had a 2.1% drop on breakfast for Roo, Ditts and Loz. I expect that to change when survey 2 and AFL seasons are included. A massive congrats to Sonya and Jules on ABC Adelaide breakfast, up 2.8 and going from 5th to second behind the triple M team.
And finally Perth where nova 93.7 and Nath, Nat and Shaun on breakfast are as unassailable as Russ and Ross on 3AW in Melbourne. Nath, Nat and Shaun were up 3.6% to a 19.8% audience share. 96FM’s Clairsy and Lisa were also up 1.5 to 12.6 in second.

Speculation is mounting about what Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Hit Network will do with its 2DayFM Sydney Breakfast show next year.
It’s currently offering Sydney listeners a music-based program helmed by Jamie Angel – but the rumour mill is spinning wildly, with insiders promising it won’t stay that way for long.
So who would take the gig? The show already went through 15 presenters in six years – Kyle Sandilands, Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, Jules Lund, Merrick Watts, Sophie Monk, Mel B, Dan Debuf, Maz Compton, Rove McManus, Sam Frost, Em Rusciano, Harley Breen, Ed Kavalee, Grant Denyer, and Ash London.
Names being thrown around by industry insiders include Sophie Monk, whose star power has significantly increased since she was last on the show thanks to a starring role as The Bachelorette in 2017, as well as recent hosting gigs on shows including Love Island Australia.
Another TV personality said to be in the mix is Julia Morris, who in addition to hosting I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here on Channel 10, also recently appeared on The Masked Singer Australia.
Then there’s existing SCA talent such as Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little, who are syndicated across the network in Drive ahead of the Hughesy & Ed show. Will 2Day really keep two Drive shows in 2021? And would another Melbourne-based Sydney show work?
Some outside chances include talent from across SCA’s PodcastOne network and even some popular acting talent.
Head of the Hit Network, Gemma Fordham, had previously told this writer that the music-focused Breakfast show was not 2DayFM in a holding pattern, and SCA intended to back the format long-term, however in the group’s recent financial results, CEO Grant Blackley noted “we do think we will return to a host-led model at some point in the medium to longer term”.

The radio rumour mill, never quiet for long, has gone into overdrive about what could be next for former Nova Drive host Marty Sheargold.
Adding fuel to the ferocious fire is this week’s newly launched Radio Today Tonight podcast, which reveals exactly what the networks have to say about his future employment prospects with them. The man himself, Sheargold, also spoke to Radio Today Tonight (via email) about his hopes for 2021.
As revealed on Radio Today Tonight, the major podcast networks, SCA’s PodcastOne, ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network, and the recently separated from Nova, Acast, denied any podcast deal was in the works.
With a podcast seemingly off the cards, Radio Today Tonight then explored the other emerging option – that Sheargold will end up co-hosting Triple M Breakfast in Melbourne (but with, or without, Eddie McGuire? That is the question).
Triple M’s Mike ‘Fitzy’ Fitzpatrick told Radio Today Tonight that suggestion was “fake news”, that in the absence of information, people make things up, and that there are no spots available in the line-up anyway.
That fire was further watered down by a veteran radio programmer who told the show that Sheargold ending up on Triple M Breakfast in Melbourne is about as likely as him doing 2Day FM Breakfast. Wouldn’t that be something?
Denials were also flying from the man himself, with Sheargold telling Radio Today Tonight that 2021 feels like a lifetime away in lockdown.
“I’ll be happy to go out for dinner by then, let alone any kind of gainful employment,” he said via email.
