R.I.P. Mr. Ronald A. Edwards (Friend, mentor, and local grandfather to my boys) Historian and multi-media platform host Ronald A. Edwards said, “Since I’ve been here (Mr. Edwards is 80-years old), Black-Americans on the north side suffer from insufficient housing and jobs, he said. In the early days, garbage often went uncollected. That is the history of North Minneapolis (Edwards, 2019). Note: Mr. Ronald A. Edwards was the longest seated chairman of the board for the Minneapolis Urban League when they had over 200 employees, two-schools, housing, and many other functioning programs – unlike 2020.

We live in Minnesota. Between December-March of each year there is a large amount of snow or frost on the ground - it turns the grass a hey-yellow in contrast. In the Spring - the warm-up starts and slowly the grass - sometimes covered with more than a foot of snow still rises and fills with nitrogen and chlorophyll while partnering with the warm sunshine to gather, stand up, and form billions of acres of beautiful green grass. This passage is written in simple clarity even for the null in comprehension. How is it nature and God's other creations on earth can bare the burden of a change of season, but in many cases our cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul), ripe with child murders, mothers shot, poverty, educational work-to-do, unemployment, unfit housing, carjacking's and chaos - why the silence and withdrawal when Black economics are at the table?

When we start to believe again, law-enforcement will stop killing our black men

Every civil rights activist from that first one until 2020 have all said one thing: ‘Action!’ Without it we (Black Americans) are doomed to repeat history in a circular construct. Example: Police kill a Black man on the corner of 38th and Chicago in Minneapolis (MN) looks very different than the Black man killed in Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, London - or even more so, the continent of Africa. Protests irrupt, brick and mortar businesses are ransacked, some burned to the ground. Our neighborhoods burn too. Once an open grocery store is now scheduled for demolition in the near future. A new breed of activists arise, unknown, untested, naïve, no formal Machiavellian training, and let’s not forget arrogance. We have been stuck in this playground for more than 60-years watching history repeat itself; watching some get paid while others are played. It’s the nature of the beast inside a so-called colorblind society that sees Blackness as something that needs its own drinking fountain.

She was born and raised in North Minneapolis. Her dad worked as a laborer at the Pig's-Eye waste water treatment plant in St. Paul where he was a proud union steward until he became a plant manager. My mother was a factory worker at Honeywell and a proud union member as well. My parents were active in a Masonic organization and worked hard to open the Cato’s Lodge on Golden Valley Road in the early 70's. They worked hard to support my little brother and I to give us a better life.

Earlier this week in north Minneapolis - two men, one 17-years old were shot. The 17-year old died on the scene, while his friend struggles for his life. The Republican Party of Minnesota remains silent. Sources tell "Our Black News" that both men were out on that same corner the day before campaigning for MNGOP congressional candidate Lacy Johnson. There are significant challenges in the Twin Cities - local politicans and community leaders have "pandered out" and our youth from 15-25 have dismissed any notion of leadership, responsibility, or hope. Our phone lines will be open at (347) 426-3904 for your comments.

On August 26, 2020 in downtown Minneapolis (1800) a young Black boy put a loaded weapon in his mouth and blew the back of his head and upper spine out; he’s dead. Earlier in the day he shot a man in his face (1412), then allegedly killed his girlfriend. (I saw the whole video of the death and I’m sick.)
Rhetoric: A few agitators on the scene said, “...the police shot him!” The people, mostly youth (15-25, from the video and sampling by IBNN NEWS) didn’t waste anytime tearing up downtown Minneapolis, overrunning Target, then throwing items at the police (I still don’t understand why Target is a ); police used tear gas and the Guard has been call in (unconfirmed, source is top).
If you looked in the eyes of the kids, they wanted answers, nobody is talking to them, there is no discernment - they’re not taught what that means. It’s full-blast chaos over speculation about what happened - at best.
In less than two-weeks, educators across the country will have multiple connections to students that have been in protests, tired, unsure, curious, angry, battle worn, and in some cases have identified their enemies and the systems; they are already ignighted, inflamed, and wondering. (Foreshadowing)
The mission framework is set; everything - I mean everything is on the line.

This isn’t about the deaths of Floyd, Blake, Clark, and many more, it’s about the perpetual wheel of nothingness for Black Americans - can we fix it?

The Vote 2020 system is proving to be the United's States most controversial election cycle ever. Oh, the blame can be spread around equally, Republicans and Democrats. Let's talk about what the post-election normal should look like, but probably will not be.

Since the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 by Minneapolis Police, there have been over 200 shootings in the Twin Cities, some with fatalities. This is a challenge in Minnesota's Black community, but it seems like no one wants to talk about it. On Tuesday, June 30, a seven-year old child was shot in the foot in north Minneapolis victim of an apparent drive-by. There were no protests, the streets are empty...when do we start a dialog about Black youth shooting and killing each other? This silence by community leaders has been a part of the ongoing norm.

After the death of George Floyd at the hand of Minneapolis Police, a movement started that put pressure on the Minneapolis city council to go into high-pandering mode by pushing through boutique resolutions like MPD can no longer choke suspects, which is already a part of POST training, and no a move to change the culture in the police department by a possible defunding and re-directing of funds. The president of the Urban League of the Twin Cities also felt this was rushed:

"Surveying the block, Steven Belton, president and CEO of the Urban League Twin Cities, noted a “significant, dramatic uptick” in violent crime since June 7, when nine Minneapolis City Council members publicly pledged support for defunding police. Belton called the move irresponsible, even as he supports transforming the department. He said those council members had not consulted with people who have a stake in the black community, particularly those on the North Side. Violent people “have used that sound bite — ‘defund the police’ — as an indication that there is no consequence, that there is no policing, and [concluded] that they are free to do whatever they want to do,” Belton said."

Comment from the Star Tribune article: "I'm scared if you defund the police … Is it going to turn into World War III over here?"

A shooting has occurred near the Uptown Transit Center, located near Hennepin Ave and W 29th St. Updated sources indicate that one person has been killed and 11 people have been injured. Details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been indicated, and no suspect information has been specified. Bus routes 6, 17, and 612 are detouring and may be delayed. Expect continued police activity and associated disruptions in the area. On this past week, we watched in horror, sorrow, and pain as another Black man was killed by Minneapolis Police, recorded from start-to-death; this cannot be right! Our concern is how to do we explain this to our children? How do you tell a 9-year old that he should obey the police when he sees the headline on the local paper, then asks, “…did the police kill him? Was he a bad guy like Thanos? Well if he’s not bad, then why did they kill him?”

There’s not a Black family in the United States that should be required to explain this to their children, but yet we worry about the futures of our boys when anyone in law enforcement can gun them down at a moment’s notice - or choke the life out of a Black human.

05-26-2020: On Memorial Day 2020 Minneapolis was put into the national spotlight when our police department choked a man to death, via a cop putting his knee and body weight onto a man's neck until he died. It was a 4-on-1 situation, and he was on the ground in handcuffs. He had no chance to live. He was screaming for his life, and even calling for his mother just before losing consciousness. It was caught on cell phone recording. It was an execution, and it was an abuse of power that was beyond excessive. (Brian James Shanley's YouTube Channel, 2020).

Critics of Minnesota governor Tim Walz say he's doing all wrong; restaurants and gyms should be open - he is moving too slow opening up the state. But what will the governor do to open up MN for some citizens the state has never opened up for - before COVID-19. Will the sleeper awaken?

Others are celebrating this DFL placeholder as someone that truly wants "One-Minnesota." But still, we do not know how that works out for Black people. No, we don't play the race-card when the data (for over 20-years) describes Black Minnesotans as a caste of lower-tier people that should be seen, pandered to; promised and smiled at. The concern: How will the conditions of Black Minnesotans change post-COVID-19? How can Black Minnesotans push an agenda forward in separate silos to benefit the good of all?

R.I.P. Mr. Ronald A. Edwards (Friend, mentor, and local grandfather to my boys)

Historian and multi-media platform host Ronald A. Edwards said, “Since I’ve been here (Mr. Edwards is 80-years old), Black-Americans on the north side suffer from insufficient housing and jobs, he said. In the early days, garbage often went uncollected. That is the history of North Minneapolis (Edwards, 2019). Note: Mr. Ronald A. Edwards was the longest seated chairman of the board for the Minneapolis Urban League when they had over 200 employees, two-schools, housing, and many other functioning programs – unlike 2020.

Jonathan Mason is founder and CEO of Masontree Consulting. Jonathan has worked in the educational field for the last decade and has been in the front lines speaking truth against disparities within the education system along with the criminal justice system. We have a lot to talk about - from education, COVID-19 to how Black Minnesotans are planning on spending their COVID-19 stimulus check.

His military operational specialty was Intelligence Analysis and Counterintelligence.

Members of the St. Paul teachers union voted Thursday to authorize a strike over a lack of progress in contract negotiations with the state’s second-largest school district. The St. Paul Federation of Educators said late Thursday night that two-thirds of its members voted and that 82 percent of voting members want to strike.

With the St. Paul teachers union voting yes for a strike, white privilege and political agendas have taken a front seat while children of color in Minnesota remain the most "gapped" educationally in the United States. For 10-years, I spoke with him everyday, today I am broken, angry, and hopeful that one day, BLACK Minnesotans will stand as one to battle the injustices of a state driven by continued Jim Crow laws, exclusion, and those in our community that have pimped our poverty all the way to the bank. Today, Mr. Edwards is gone - now, your ass is mine. Rest in peace.

MINNEAPOLIS (from WCCO) — "Tammy Squalls says she never thought her loved ones would be hurt by the very people she called for help. Squalls called police to her north Minneapolis home last Saturday night. “The mom did call the police officers. They have a white mom and she did not know that when the police came they would end up tasing her daughter, immediately pushing her out of the house,” Minneapolis NAACP President Leslie Redmond said. Redmond says pictures show Champaigne Hale’s injuries."

Breaking News:

Sources tell The Ron and Don Show a baby (9-months old) dies because of confusion between Walgreen's and Children's Hospital (Minneapolis) in getting a prescription filled. Doctor's misdiagnosed child on several occasions.

The alleged focus at the hospital was the child's insurance and ability to pay. (Eyewitness accounts tell us the Medical Examiner called the ER doctor a "dummy.")

She went to the pharmacy and they claimed they didn't have any information. Pharmacy told her to call the "state in the morning." The baby dies four-hours afterwards. The police arrived after the mother and roommates performed CPR and turned the focus to who harmed the baby - nobody harmed the baby. #BlackInAmerica

This is just one more example of the exclusions of freedom in Minnesota.

The University of Minnesota’s Northside Job Creation Team set a clear goal: Bring 1,000 economically sound living-wage jobs to North Minneapolis by 2019.

The NJCT is a part of the University’s Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center. The program was sparked during a 2010 North Minneapolis job summit, aiming to reverse the economic disparities facing one of the most marginalized regions of the city. In 2013, NJCT set out to create 1,000 jobs in conjunction with numerous local partners, including the city of Minneapolis.

This year, NJCT leadership say they’ve met their goal — although some jobs have moved and some employees have been laid off. He's been listening to some community member (that did not live in Minnesota), talk about how they marched with the late MLK, and basically being untruthful about the "history" of Minnesota and the Black American community. In the dead of winter, a Minnesota state senator is looking ahead to summer with legislation blocking police from shutting down kids’ lemonade and hot dog stands. The bill, authored by Sen. Roger Chamberlain, would allow children under age 14 to run temporary stands without a permit, as long as they’re on private property and take in less than $1,000 per year. The measure comes after a 13-year-old Minneapolis boy almost had his hot dog stand closed last summer because he was operating without a permit. Chamberlain’s bill awaits a vote in the Senate after passing a committee last week (Fox 9 News, 2019).

"Thor Companies, the Minneapolis-based construction firm and the state’s largest minority-owned company, has run into financial trouble, only months after it celebrated its move into a new North Side headquarters partially funded by Hennepin County. Target Corp., which long has used Thor on store projects and holds a lease on Thor’s office space, has provided millions in assistance to pay subcontractors of Thor and forgiven nearly $300,000 in unpaid rent. On Tuesday, Hennepin County commissioners learned that liens had been placed on a building where Thor is set to transfer parking spaces to the county. Thor’s problems came to light in recent days after St. Paul-based Sunrise Bank, a Thor lender, moved to collect an overdue loan against the company in Ramsey County."

1/18/ 2019, the Star Tribune publish: "Thor Cos. sued by Sunrise Banks for $3 million; receiver sought," citing: "Thor does not have “sufficient liquidity to continue to operate,” and multiple creditors might attempt a “free-for-all” liquidation of the business." This week, we watched Bill Cosby sentenced to three-to-ten years for his crimes. In May 2018, a white-Texas man was given 90-days for raping a five-year old. We've watch mainstream cable networks on both sides use yellow journalism to twist facts, and make the issues relevant to their network, not delivering news, but putting on full display partisan style, and suggestive 'additions' to commentary that should violate any possible code of broadcast journalism ethics. The local newspaper reported that Hennepin County hires director to reduce racial and other disparities. That person, Alex Tittle, held a similar role for the construction of U.S. Bank Stadium. Tonight cohosts Ronald A. Mr. Johnston’s piece, “How the US Plan to Build Houses for Displaced Haitians Became an Epic Boondoggle, cited the following:

After the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in January 2010, the US government responded with an ambitious plan to build 15,000 new houses in the country. But the ensuing program to put roofs over the heads of displaced Haitians has included a boondoggle of epic proportions at one $35 million housing development, where shoddy construction practices and faulty sewage systems are currently the subject of an ongoing investigation. On February 3, the US-based company Thor Construction was suspended from receiving government contracts because of its work in Haiti. Another contractor with close ties to the Haitian president has so far escaped punishment.

A whole lot of of shaking is going on in Minnesota as well as the world. On Tuesday, Minneapolis police officer Noor was arrested and charged; this wil prove interestings becase on last weeks show, co-host Ronald A. Edwards told listeners exactly what would happen, and how. We also look forward for a call from the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, DC to talk about a 2015 story about a U.S. contractor being suspended from doing work in Haiti because of substandard and faulty construction work. If not, the Ron and Don Show will break the story that the Star Tribune ignored. If we get to it, we ask, why black actors are paid so poorly.

The lack of minority representation (in the Cannabis business) is especially fraught given that research shows African-Americans were disproportionately arrested and incarcerated during the war on drugs. Now that marijuana is seen as a legitimate business, advocates argue that minorities should also reap the profits (Tracy Jan and Fenit Nirappil, The Washington Post, 2017).

There’s some names we as black business men and women need to know; the first is DECODE.

DECODE Cannabis Education Fund (really), is a 501c3 organization (of course) tasked with organizing a national mobilization effort to educate Americans on the social benefits of a federal mandate removing Cannabis from the Schedule I. In doing so, DECODE will support important issues in the industry such as decriminalization, inclusion, women and minority business, civil rights, research, caregiver/patients rights, workers’ rights, safety & testing and responsible advertising. But some worry that DECODE is allegedly DECIVING the Black community in the United States by ignoring local business people of color who are in the forefront of the cannabis business, but being ignored by this nonprofit agency.

Minneapolis mayor grants 250K to the same people for no results. Of course its an election year...why not?

(Editorial)…Minneapolis’ black community has always been divided when into two specific groups when money hits the table. Group one is the folks and organizations who always seem to “get the money” with little to no successful outcomes. Group two is the group who are the grassroots, hardworking folks that actually have a plan, but are intentionally overlooked by philanthropic-political pundits in favor of keeping things as they are. The Minneapolis mayor, who is currently running for what some say is the toughest re-election bid in Minneapolis mayoral-race history is not a surgery-cure type mayor; she’s a band aid mayor…once again, she uses her power of box-opening to pull out another band aid to make what we allege as another politically-driven outreach grant to make sure downtown Minneapolis is safe. Since the announcement of this particular band aid, there have been several beating, robberies and women shot in the head. It seems that money in the wrong place does what it always has for Minneapolis…nothing.

If I was on the Minneapolis City Council, I would question mayor Hodges funding of Day Patrols on Hennepin Avenue. I know she wants to be re-elected as mayor again but the black folks she's granting money to don't hang out in downtown Minneapolis after the sun goes down. Hell, if the mayor was worried about crime on Hennepin Avenue, she'd clean up 5th and Hennepin. If you've been there, you know what I'm talking about. This too will be a total fail for Hodges.

The announcement came last Wednesday (Nov. 16) as Ramsey County Prosecuting Attorney John Choi laid out the set of facts that led him to file charges against Yanez in the highly-publicized July 6 shooting death of Castile, who was driving in Falcon Heights when he was pulled over by Yanez for a supposed broken taillight. What ensued was Yanez shooting Castile seven times while Castile’s girlfriend Diamond Reynolds and her 4-year-old daughter were in the car. Immediately following Castile being shot Reynolds livestreamed the now-viral video on Facebook.

Minneapolis, Minn. - Community members who cleverly disguise themselves as activists have been spreading a vile lie throughout the community that “a deal” was cut and the black community was successful in receiving over $35 million from the 2016 state legislature. As of this past Sunday on a local public radio station where the Minneapolis Urban League’s president Steve Belton was being interviewed, Belton made it very clear; the community did not receive $35 million – the lion’s share of the amount was supposedly distributed throughout the state of Minnesota to many cultures and missions. During the interview, the MUL’s Belton corrected the host of the show who seemed not to have his information correct. “The community (Black folks) did not get $35 million; the $35 million was distributed across the state. The north Minneapolis agency EMERGE and its leadership was asked to take the lead on the $4.2 million that was allocated,” said Belton.

What happens when you get a bunch of elected officials attempting to problem-solve in an area they know nothing about? A: Lies, misdirection, payoff's to friends and a whole lot of nothing that keeps community members in static state with no futures to look forward to.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — The father of the man who stabbed nine people at a central Minnesota mall has identified him as a 22-year-old college student. Ahmed Adan told the Star Tribune of Minneapolis that police told him Saturday night that his son, Dahir A. Adan, died at Crossroads Center mall in St. Cloud.

If the argument of sameness works for gay rights, could it have worked for Civil Rights? Imagine the following “alternative history.” It is the early sixties, and while it should be obvious to everyone that all human beings are the same in every important respect, racism is alive and well. The white political leaders most sympathetic to the plight of African Americans decide to make the case for this moral sameness by arguing that black people are really white. “Look past their skin,” they say, “and you will find that they are just as white as we are.” This argument is so effective that the discourse about race in America changes nearly overnight. Anyone who wants to talk about the distinctiveness of African American culture is accused of racism. Even black leaders who want to draw attention to black history and its unique challenges and achievements are shut down. There is no black pride movement, no discussion of the particularity of black culture, and no effort to find room in public discourse to reflect on the uniqueness of black life in America. Blacks continue to have their own history and culture, but those differences cannot be named, analyzed, and celebrated. For the purposes of social justice, blacks have become white (Webb, 2014).

In a recent opinion published by the Star Tribune, St. Paul businessman Duane Johnson of St. Paul – who is the co-founder of Tuloko wrote: “I am skeptical of any black leader who claims to represent my interests as an entrepreneur without my input. Many of them have never owned or operated a business. They have never experienced the day-to-day hustle of entrepreneurship.”

There are several critical issues surrounding the group gathered to attain over $75 million dollars to address disparities in the black community and other minority-ethic circles.

The questions we have are:

Who picked these folks to represent black Minnesotans?

Why didn’t anyone call business people to the table?

What are the chances of the money being lost in translation?

In it, she says there was an “altercation” that she tried to break up, and in the process hurt her leg and she can’t move. That happened 60-90 minutes before she called 911, she says in the recording. Hayes also maintained Clark “was not hysterical” and he wasn’t hitting the windows of the ambulance like investigators had said.

McKenzie, who lead his team to the domination of this years Minnesota's men's basketball tournament in downtown Minneapolis. The North High Polars pulled off a sweet win to bring attention back to North High School and maybe get our young black men back to North High.

Edwards wrote a letter to the United States Justice Department citing there had been tampering inside the Jamar Clark investigation via the police department and other concerned parties. On last weeks program, a member of the Minneapolis NAACP told listeners that a directive was made to tell community members not to give police video recordings of the Jamar Clark shooting (if any). My position is that Community Action of Minneapolis, the city of Minneapolis Inspections and the Minneapolis Public Schools could be complicit in the death of not only the three children killed in the north Minneapolis house fire on Sunday, but also other deaths involving children packed in inefficiently heated houses that die the worst death a child could die…death by fire. If Community Action of Minneapolis failed these families, then city officials, CAM board members, local politicians and the black leadership is complicit in overlooking something that went wrong a very long time ago.
