What happens when a respected airline captain publicly reports a UFO... and refuses to change his story?
In this Summer "Best Of" repeat from Season 2, Episode 16, Michael Ryan and Christine Scott revisit one of the most significant—and often overlooked—cases in UFO history.
On the night of February 24, 1959, Captain Peter Killian and the crew of American Airlines Flight 937 watched three mysterious objects pace their DC-6 for more than half an hour as they flew from Newark to Detroit. Other airline crews confirmed the sighting, passengers were invited to look out the windows, and the story made headlines across North America.
But when official explanations failed to satisfy the witnesses, something changed.

What would you do if something enormous, silent, and impossible drifted across the night sky while you were on duty?
In this Summer "Best Of" episode of UFO Talker, Michael Ryan is joined by retired Halifax Police officers Rick Prescott and Rob Furlong, who recount one of Canada's most compelling police UFO encounters.
While working the night shift in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the two veteran officers observed a massive black triangular object slowly crossing the sky. The craft made no sound, displayed no conventional means of propulsion, and moved so slowly that both men immediately realized they were witnessing something unlike any aircraft they had ever encountered.
As the object continued across the sky, dispatch contacted both Halifax International Airport and CFB Shearwater to determine whether anything appeared on radar. The answer was the same from both locations: nothing.
For years, the officers kept their experience private, concerned about the stigma that often follows anyone reporting an unexplained aerial encounter. Now, they share the remarkable details of what they witnessed and explain why, after all these years, they still cannot identify what they saw.

This episode originally aired in Season 4, Episode 19 of the UFO Talker Podcast.
In the summer of 1973, two young sisters were playing outside their family home in rural northern Maine when they looked up and saw something extraordinary—a huge, silent, saucer-shaped object hovering above them.
The older sister became frightened and grabbed her younger sister, pulling her toward the house. They ran across the lawn and headed for the front porch.
Then the memory stops.
Thirteen years later, the sisters finally talked about what happened that afternoon and discovered they both remembered the same encounter—and neither could remember what happened after they reached the porch.
Months later, the family witnessed another strange event.
Two mysterious balls of light moved through the night sky, circling and coming closer to the family home. As the sisters sat upstairs with their mother, a brilliant light suddenly flooded their bedroom. It was so intense they could not open their eyes.
One sister screamed.
And once again, the memory stops.
Michael Ryan talks with Tabby Rideout about the strange UFO encounters she experienced with her sister, the missing time surrounding both events, and the questions that have remained with them for more than 50 years.

For more than half a century, the four photographs taken by Orange County road maintenance worker Rex Heflin near Santa Ana, California, have been debated by believers, skeptics, scientists, military investigators, and some of the biggest names in UFO research. Were these images evidence of a genuine unidentified flying object, or was there another explanation?

Season 3 Episode 11. As part of UFO Talker's Summer "Best Of" Repeat Series, we revisit one of the most fascinating and little-known Canadian UFO encounters on record.
On October 24, 1970, near MacGregor, Manitoba, a young farmer named Gerald Adams reported an extraordinary experience that would eventually attract the attention of the RCMP, the Canadian Military, and the National Research Council of Canada.
According to Adams, what began as the observation of a strange object in the night sky soon evolved into something far more remarkable. Returning to the location after dropping off his girlfriend, Adams reported encountering a landed UFO and observing a small humanoid figure wearing what appeared to be a metallic silver suit and helmet. He would later state that he approached to within approximately fifty feet of both the object and the figure.
The case was taken seriously enough that Adams was interviewed by Captain G.M. Winterburn of the Canadian Forces Operations Centre. The interview was recorded on reel-to-reel tape, and correspondence involving the RCMP and government scientists followed. Questions remain to this day about missing RCMP documentation connected to the investigation and whether the original military recordings still exist.

Summer Rerun Series. This episode is from Season 3 Episode 27. The Zodiac Killer's infamous 340 Cipher remained unsolved for more than 51 years. Host Michael Ryan interviews retired RCMP Sergeant Craig Cochrane about one of the most compelling UFO cases ever investigated in Northern Manitoba—the Island Lake Incident.
On the night of October 3, 1981, Albert Punch, his wife, and their three children were travelling by small boat near Island Lake when their quiet evening took a terrifying turn. A massive UFO, estimated to be nearly 200 feet in diameter, appeared and pursued the family's boat for more than 30 minutes across the dark waters.
According to the witnesses, whenever the mysterious object moved too close, the boat's motor would suddenly fail, leaving the family vulnerable and frightened as the huge craft hovered nearby. The encounter would become one of the most intriguing UFO reports ever investigated in the region.
Sergeant Cochrane recounts his investigation into the case, the challenges of gathering evidence in remote northern communities, and what it was like serving as an RCMP officer in some of Manitoba's most isolated locations. He also shares his thoughts on the credibility of the witnesses and why the Island Lake Incident remains a memorable case more than four decades later.

During the third week of February 1987 the New Zealand Frigate HMNZS Southland was 175 miles off the coast of the North Island of New Zealand. At 1 am the ship started tracking a USO that was 20 kms behind the vessel. After 30 minutes the USO went from 20kms behind to underneath the warship in less than 30 seconds. At that point the Southland loss all power and was set adrift. Sonar operator David Barnett gives a very detailed interview about what happened that night. Season 4 Episode 24. Host Michael Ryan interviews retired RCMP Cst. James Blackwood. At around 2 am on the night of October 26, 1978 he received a call that there was a UFO hovering over the bay in Clarenville, Newfoundland. When Blackwood drove down to the bay he couldn't believe what he was seeing. A large UFO hovering roughly 100 feet above the water. For the next two hours Cst. Blackwood and a few civilians watched the craft with binoculars and a telescope. Over the next two weeks Cst. Blackwood gave interviews on U.S., Canadian and British television and hundreds of newspaper interviews. During this interview Cst. Blackwood reveals for the first time that two U.S. Air Force personnel interviewed him about the incident one year later. They recored the interview and also took notes. Jack Weiner along with his twin brother Jim Weiner and their friends Chuck Rak and Charlie Foltz took a canoe trip on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway in 1976. One night while they were fishing on Eagle Lake they were approached by a very bright light. The next thing they knew they were on shore and couldn't remember what happened. Many years later through hypnosis the 4 men found out they were abducted. Their story was made into a book by author Raymond Fowler. This is part 1 or a 2 part interview. Season 4 Episode 15. Host Michael Ryan and commentator Christine Scott take a deep dive into another case taken from the files of the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police). On the night of April 6, 1976 two teenage girls were sitting in a car in the parking lot of the Skyline Hotel waiting for the mother of one of the girls to get off her shift. While they were waiting they see a large UFO hover over the hotel and disappear behind the building like it was going to land. This was followed by a bright flash of light. The RCMP interviews the girls until 2 in the morning. We read from a transcript that was made from each of the girls interviews. Also, on today's episode we are joined by Joy who helps us pick the winner of our Christmas draw. In the Summer of 1971 the Marines took a canoe and spent the Summer on Reindeer Lake. Beautiful and rugged, Reindeer Lake is a very remote lake in Northern Saskatchewan. One evening as they were out on the lake they had a very dramatic encounter with a UFO. Later they found themselves on shore with the sense that they had both had missing time they could not account for. Season 4 Episode 3. Host Michael Ryan and commentator Christine Scott take a deep dive into a case that was investigated by the RCMP in 1976. At 2:55 AM on October 3, 1976 Joseph Robichaud was driving on a dark, deserted road in New Brunswick, Canada. He soon found himself being chased by a red UFO that was as large as a house. Trying to get away from the UFO he reached speeds of 115 mph. The UFO was right above his car. This is another UFO report taken from the files of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Summer rerun series. From Season 3 Episode 22. In this episode that was originally aired on March 26, 2025 host Michael Ryan and commentator Christine Scott discuss this case from 1978. On the night of April 6, 1978 a woman was putting her horses away for the night when a beam of light shot from a UFO and went through the window of her barn. The three horses in the barn went crazy and she called for help. Eventually 12 people came to the farm and saw the UFO. This sighting was investigated by constable J. N. Holyk from the Prince George, British Columbia detachment.

Summer repeat series. Season 3 Episode 5. From a show that originally aired on November 7, 2024 host Michael Ryan and commentator Christine Scott take a deep dive into two separate UFO encounters by two aircraft near Gander International Airport on October 10, 1974 and October 11, 1974. The first UFO was seen by pilot John Breen who was flying his Cessna with his passenger Janice Gould. The UFO played cat and mouse with them for 25 minutes. On the second night the pilot and co-pilot of a Capital Airlines DC-8 was followed by a UFO while on final descent to Gander International Airport. These two cases are taken directly from the files of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

This encounter took place on January 2, 1975 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Sometime around 11:15 pm Mrs. Verna Strachan, her daughter Wendy Strachan and Linda Marino see a UFO over their apartment building that is approximately 180 feet long by 120 feet wide hovering at about 350 feet above them. The case was investigated by corporal D. J. Howard.

In this episode that originally aired on May 24, 2023 host Michael Ryan interviews UK UFO investigator and Chairman of the Birmingham UFO Group, Dave Hodrien. They discuss three military cases that Dave has investigated. The first is a 300 yard long UFO this is surrounded by 3 black helicopters near Staffordshire, England in 2014. The second case involves a British soldier, who in 1962, saw a UFO at close range while on duty near Singapore. It was witnessed by a group of soldiers from his unit. The third case is a sighting that is still classified until this day. Several military personnel from an Air Force base in Greece witness a large, black triangle UFO hovering over the base for 10 minutes.

Host Michael Ryan was able to find and contact the investigating officer, Sgt. Carl Lentowicz and Carl talks about the investigation. As a bonus, after host Michael Ryan and Sgt. Carl Lentowicz discuss the case from 54 years ago, Sgt. Lentowicz talks about his 32 year career in the RCMP which involved his 675 mile mission with a dog sled team in Canada's high north. Carl Lentowicz is currently the mayor of Denare Beach, Saskatchewan. Mr. Lentowicz has been the mayor for 28 years. Season 3 Episode 20. Host Michael Ryan and commentator Christine Scott take a deep dive into a case taken from an RCMP report. On January 1, 1970 nurse Doreen Kendall saw a UFO hovering just 60 feet from her third floor window at the Cowichan District Hospital. She saw two humanoid figures through a clear dome on the UFO. At one point both of the figures were looking back at her. Several other nurses saw the UFO also and back up Kendall's sighting. RCMP Sgt. R. P. In a far ranging interview Dr. Tortorella talks about the 1970 Duncan UFO Incident and why recent claims that it was a hoax are incorrect. Dr. Tortorella also remembers Canadian ufologist John Musgrave and the body of work that he left behind. They also talk about a case called Cabin in the Cariboo. A man recently called UFOBC and told them about an abduction that happened to him over 50 years ago in the Cariboo (the interior of British Columbia). They found his story credible and the fact that he was able to take an object from the craft and left behind near the cabin and lake where he was abducted. They also look into The Putnam Incident. Virtually unknown is the story of train Brakeman Mr. R. C. Putnam who witnessed a UFO flying along side his train. Mr. Putnam reported to the RCMP and the Canadian Military serious effects to his health from the craft. This incident happened on October 25, 1967.

Season 3 Episode 5. Host Michael Ryan and commentator Christine Scott take a deep dive into two separate UFO encounters by two aircraft near Gander International Airport on October 10, 1974 and October 11, 1974. The first UFO was seen by pilot John Breen who was flying his Cessna with his passenger Janice Gould. The UFO played cat and mouse with them for 25 minutes. On the second night the pilot and co-pilot of a Capital Airlines DC-8 was followed by a UFO while on final descent to Gander International Airport. These two cases are taken directly from the files of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

In an episode that originally aired on November 8, 2023, Host Michael Ryan interviews retired police constables Rick Prescott and Rob Furlong about their sighting of a black triangle UFO during their nightshift. Rob Furlong also recalls a story that a family friend told about a Tic Tac shaped UFO hovering over the water late in the evening in the '70s. It plunged into the ocean and disappeared. Summer rerun series. Season 1 Episode 21. In this episode that originally aired on January 18, 2023 host Michael Ryan interviews Terry Mantell, grandson of Captain Thomas F. Mantell who is the first Air Force pilot to lose their life in pursuit of a UFO. Terry Mantell talks about how his grandfather's death affected their family and how they are still looking for answers from the government 75 years later. Also discussed is an interview with Sgt. Blackwell, who was in the control tower at Godman Army Air Field the day of the crash. Sgt. Blackwell's 1996 interview sheds new light on what really happened that day. In this episode that originally aired on January 25, 2023, host Michael Ryan interviews U.S. soldier David Marceau who had an encounter in 1992 with a UFO that was 100 feet long and 50 feet wide late at night while he was on guard duty at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown. The base at Gagetown is a massive (over 420 square miles) training facility. Home of the 5th Canadian Division, it is a major training location for several Canadian units. NATO forces also train here with U.S. Army units as well. Also the site of several UFO sightings in the early 2000s. David's encounter was also featured on an episode of Unidentified where he met Luis Elizondo. David shares his opinion of Mr. Elizondo during the interview. Each sighting has changed the witness and the way they view the world. Julie is from Melbourne, Australia and she talks about her encounter that was witnessed by her and three of her friends as they drove down the highway. The UFO was following their car about 30 feet above the speeding vehicle. Next is Jay from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Jay was jogging with his girlfriend and spotted a UFO only a few feet above a river. What they saw next changed the way they view the world.

Season 2 Episode 39. In the Season 2 finale, host Michael Ryan and commentator Christine Scott take a deep dive into The Star Blanket Encounter. On the night of November 27, 1973 a UFO that was described as being between 100-150 feet in diameter was first seen by Chief Noel Star of the Star Blanket First Nations Reservation. Over the next two hours at least 22 people saw a UFO that took off from the ground, hovered at 100 feet and made quick maneuvers around many fields in the Peepeekisis and Star Blanket Cree First Nations Reservations. We discuss the reports of RCMP personnel as they try to come to terms with what they are seeing over the House of Commons and the Prime Minister's official residence. The UFOs were also witnessed by Commissioner Malcolm Lindsay and Deputy Commissioner W. H. Kelly. To add to the mystery of the night, at the same moment of the UFO there was a power outage in the blocks around all the government buildings.

During the early morning hours of August 4, 1968 three members of the Prochner family witnessed a large UFO hovering over their house and their barn. The farm was located near Qu'appelle, Saskatchewan. The three family members were father William Prochner, his son Kenneth and Kenneth's grandmother Julius Prochner. There was also evidence of the UFO landing on the Prochner farm as well. This was investigated by RCMP constable F. W. Pushka, RCMP constable Cassidy of the Regina Identification Section and Colonel R. D. Anderson of the Canadian military. The base at Gagetown is a massive (over 420 square miles) training facility. Home of the 5th Canadian Division, it is a major training location for several Canadian units. NATO forces also train there with U.S. Army units as well. Also the site of several UFO sightings in the early 2000s. David's encounter was also featured on an episode of Unidentified where he met Luis Elizondo. David shares his opinion of Mr. Elizondo during the interview. The first is a 300 yard long UFO that is surrounded by 3 black helicopters near Staffordshire, England in 2014. The second case involves a British soldier, who in 1962, saw a UFO at close range while on duty near Singapore. It was witnessed by a group of soldiers from his unit. The third case is a sighting that is still classified until this day. Several military personnel from an Air Force base in Greece witness a large, black triangle UFO hovering over their base for over 10 minutes. The base at Gagetown is a massive (over 420 square miles) training facility. Home to the 5th Canadian Division, it is a major training location for several Canadian units. NATO forces also train there with U.S. Army units as well. Also the site of several UFO sightings in the early 2000s. Episode #10. Michael Ryan interviews Sheryl Gottschall from UFO Research Queensland, Australia. UFORQ is the second oldest UFO organization in the world. In operation since 1956. Sheryl talks about several Aussie UFO cases including: 1992 Ipswich case in which a woman has a UFO follow her car so close that she could almost reach out and touch it. Massive 600 ft diameter and 5 stories tall UFO hovers 150 ft above the ocean off the Gold Coast. A woman in Spain walks into a scene where she sees a hovering UFO and people, cars all frozen in time.
