Her Many Voices Foundation (HMVF) is a small organization that does big things in the world. We started out as artists responding to humanitarian need. Now we're joined by global community members as well.
Our mission is to ignite the Artivist (Artist/Activist) in us all, in order to move our passions to purpose, for the betterment of women, children and our Mother Earth.
This podcast is created from content from our event Celebrating Indigenous Wisdom to Face Modern Challenges, our financial literacy program Indigenomics, and our monthly Lunch and Learn series.
This month we are delighted to welcomed Dr. Janis Whitlock, a developmental psychologist, researcher, educator, and systems consultant with a career spanning four decades. As emerita research faculty at Cornell University and the founder and director of the Cornell Research Program on Self-Injury and Recovery, Dr. Whitlock has made significant contributions to the fields of mental health and wellbeing. She is passionate about honoring life and wellbeing in all forms.

In honor of Women's Month, we are thrilled to welcome Rev. Peggy Petahtegoose from Atikmeksheng Anishnawbek First Nation as our special guest. Peggy's roots run deep in her homeland, and her connection to Spirit guides her journey of healing and service.
Peggy has a passion for Prenatal Yoga, Postpartum Yoga, and Yoga Nidra, which she has been teaching since 2012. She'll also discuss her role as a member of the Tree of Life Interfaith Temple in Amherst, NH, where she offers spiritual services, weddings, memorials, baby blessings, and spiritual mentoring.
As a Reiki practitioner since 2010, Peggy brings a holistic approach to healing, and she has expanded her knowledge into the world of herbal healing since 2021 at Misty Meadows Herbal Center in Lee, NH. Her journey includes an apprenticeship position in 2022 and becoming the Shop Herbalist in 2023.
The healing connections between mothers, their children, and connection to mother earth are all important to Peggy. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Gaia Gossip.

Adriana Marina, the founder of NGO Hecho por Nosotros and B Corp Fashion Brand Animana, was born in the heart of Patagonia in Argentina. PhD in Economics, she researched Growth, inequality and local development. Before founding animana she was working as a researcher, pioneering in knowledge networks and the analysis of the Internet and technology as economic and social change tools.
Through all this experience, she learned to understand economic systems, which could be combined with her drive to change business practices into sustainable business models, to create resilience in societies and economies. Margaret Jane Wynne, is one of the stewards of the Wynne Farm Ecological Reserve in Kenscoff haiti, a private conservation initiative serving the community. She combined her Sociology major from Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass. with her father’s friendly environmental practices sharing the mission of protecting nature and its resources for the benefit of all. Jane has worked with women’s groups and has led different environmental projects with schools by the support of international institutions. By working with the community and travelling around the countryside as a tourist guide she gained a holistic perspective of the society. Her focus in life is finding an incentive to help farmers save the soil, rebuild it and plant food trees , firewood crops and bamboo in order to build resilience to the impact of climate change and to have a better livelihood. Her wish is that her immediate and enlarged family will pass on the legacy of protecting Wynne Farm that is just one piece of the puzzle of our Planet Earth.

Feliciano uses animation, installation, and collage to create worlds where marginalized experiences are front and center and all of time exists at once. She holds an M.F.A in Cinema Production from San Francisco State University and a B.A. in Film & American Studies from Smith College. She has completed residencies with RedLine Contemporary Art Center and Grand Canyon National Park and was a participant in the Colorado Creative Industries Change Leader Institute.

Jessica Hsu is a Chinese-American anthropologist and solidarity activist based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Her work carries the hope of weaving together the strengths of different communities in order to inspire collective healing and social justice. She believes strongly that Haitians, the original abolitionists in 1804, will relive this history spurring systematic racism globally to crumble.
Hsu was born in Syracuse, NY and grown in New Jersey, later making her way across the country to San Francisco, and eventually to Haiti in 2002. She calls New York, San Francisco, Taiwan (where her parents live and were raised), as well as Haiti - all HOME.

Her Many Voices Foundation is delighted to welcome Lisa Wimberger, Founder of the Neurosculpting® Institute and co-founder of the NeuroPraxis App. A long-time friend to Her Many Voices and partner in our refugee program, Lisa will share some of her thoughts and tactics for working with your trauma to bring yourself into your center.
Lisa holds a Masters Degree in Education, a Foundations Certification in NeuroLeadership, and Certificates in Medical Neuroscience, Visual Perception, and the Brain, and Neurobiology. She is the author of seven books on neuroplasticity and stress management, including NEW BELIEFS, NEW BRAIN: Free Yourself from Stress and Fear, and NEUROSCULPTING: A Whole-Brain Approach to Heal Trauma, Rewrite Limiting Beliefs, and Find Wholeness.
She runs multiple companies, and has over 60 international franchises. Lisa still runs a private meditation coaching practice teaching clients who suffer from emotional blocks, stress disorders, and self-imposed limitations. She is a keynote speaker and a faculty member of Kripalu Yoga and Meditation Center, the Law Enforcement Survival Institute, Omega Institute, and 1440 Multiversity.
Lisa began her meditation practice at age 12. Hit by lightning at age 15, and clinically flatlined on multiple occasions, Lisa uses her traumatic experience as a vehicle for transformation. Lisa studied Ascension training for four years with Ishaya monks, completed four years of psychic awareness training, applying the tools of the Berkeley Psychic Institute, and is trained in Autogenic Hypnosis.
Lisa teaches audiences ranging from corporate leaders to FBI and Secret Service. To date Lisa has taught the tools of emotional regulation to thousands of law enforcement personnel and first responders across the country.

Her Many Voices Foundation is delighted to welcome Kellie Berns, Program Director for Earth Guardians, to share about the important work of their organization. Earth Guardians trains and empowers youth to be effective leaders at the intersections of the environment and climate justice movements. Using art, music, storytelling, civic engagement, legal and direct action we inspire solutions to the critical issues we face as a global community.
Kellie is a student, mentor, spiritual practitioner, lover of the earth, and community organizer who has a passion for being of service to help foster spaces of peace, justice, empowerment, healing, and beauty.
Her inspiration comes from many years of Buddhist and Yogic practices, along with time spent learning from Indigenous relatives of North America.
Kellie is one of the co-visionary behind Earth Guardians’ Indigenous Youth Leadership Initiative, as well Earth Guardians’ Project Grants Program, Hemp educational series, PPE and Tribal Nations Initiative, and is currently overseeing EG’s campaigns, leadership trainings, partnerships, and youth staff Program Directors.
In the past, Kellie was the co-manager/co-founder of the Ahimsa House in West Philadelphia, a community center founded on Buddhist principles which merges activism, anti-capitalist practices, and spirituality. Kellie is a graduate of Smith College, a graduate and former faculty at the Pacific Center of Awareness and Bodywork in Kauai, and a co-founder of the Studio 34 Yoga Teacher Training Program.

Her Many Voices Foundation is delighted to present Tommy Nahulu for our Native American Heritage month Lunch and Learn on Nov 16, 12PM Mountain Time. Tommy will present on sustainability, then and now, through the lens of his Hawaiian culture. Tommy will touch on farming, community, and global impact to enrich our understanding of this important, yet often not presented, cultural heritage.
The newest member of the Her Many Voices Foundation Board, Tommy has been an active supporter of their mission and work for years. His varied career and volunteer efforts are an expression of his love for people and community. Whether it is his restaurant service background, music business management or mural work, it is rooted in his deep connection to his heritage as a Hawaiian and his passion for art. A nationally celebrated muralist, Tommy has been painting murals since graduating from Denver East High School. After studying at the Colorado Institute of Art, he has painted murals in Hawaii, California, Colorado, Tennessee, and Florida. A professional artist, he also teaches art, as well.
In addition to working in restaurants for over 30+ years, he has been heavily involved in the Colorado music scene. Tommy's involvement in the Colorado music scene began as a music lover, attending countless shows in clubs throughout Denver and Boulder. In 1994, Tommy was asked to help manage the popular Denver band Western Vogue. It was then that he became intimately involved in Colorado's music scene. He then worked with singer-songwriters Nina Storey and Liz Clark. He also helped on the Entertainment Committee for the CHUN Capitol Hill People's Fair for a few years, until he started and ran the Fair's Streetside Mural Project. He also served on the Colorado Music Association board for a few years, with one as President.
Tommy is a hemp activist, with years growing hemp, harvesting hemp, and promoting hemp products. Currently he is an artist for the Colorado Hemp Company at all their NoCo Hemp Expo's and helped start and operate Serenity Remedies CBD as a manager of the hemp they grew for CBD production.
Tommy helps feed and care for homeless, supports women's rights, and those choosing sober lifestyles. Tommy is a dedicated family man and creates a sense of welcome and connection with seeming ease in the communities he inhabits.

It is true that Melissa Ivey’s musical evolution has seen many incarnations in this same lifetime. She has been born and died unto herself several times throughout her career, which has spanned more than 20 years, only to rise once more as a new expression of creative intention.
Driven by the impulse to share her art with others, Melissa Ivey sold 5,000 copies of her self-released album "From The Inside Out" from the back of her VW bus back in the early 2000s. This was the very beginning of a prolific life and career that has unfolded in some remarkable and sometimes surprising ways. Ivey’s willingness to give herself over to the process of innovation led to television credits for her music featured on the Television E! Entertainment network and Comcast's two-time Emmy Award-winning show "The Stage-Colorado”.

That commitment served him well and his practice flourished.
Bob hails from an impressive family of builders and engineers whose projects include New York’s original Yankee Stadium and Switzerland’s Gotthard Tunnel.
A practicing architect for over thirty years, his firm features a national portfolio of completed projects in numerous states including New York, Virginia, Florida, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Vermont.
A few years ago, his son, Alex, introduced him to industrial hemp. Sustainable and eco- friendly, the ancient plant’s versatility is legendary in the building industry. From hempcrete walls that regulate indoor air quality to toxic-free paints, carpets, textiles and upholstery, hemp is well poised to revolutionize the building industry. With an eye toward the future, Alex joined the firm and the duo embarked on a mission to create the aesthetic of hempcrete by developing and producing a proprietary hemp wall system.
In 2017 Escher Design completed the WNDER Workshop, the first permitted hempcrete structure in Denver Colorado.
In 2019 Alex founded Hemp Hollow Consulting.
In 2019, Bob was elected the first president of the United States Hemp Building Association.
Ready to challenge old standards and eager to inspire novel solutions, Escher Design finds itself at the forefront of innovation in 2021. With hemp based projects scheduled for construction in Vermont, New York State, Missouri and Denver, they will have ample opportunity to elevate architecture to a new level, in the US and abroad.

Scheril also serves as the Director of Business Development of Creative Services, a FCRA Compliance, Background Screening, and Security Firm. The Daily Business Review has named her one of the Top 12 Cannabis Attorney’s in Florida. Her practice covers both the Marijuana and Hemp Industries, specializing in Cannabinoid legalization and UK Novel Foods registration. Scheril serves on the Board of one of the oldest Cannabis Advocacy Organizations, Patients Out of Time. She is the former Executive Director of the Black Farmers and Agriculturalists of Florida and former Director of Federal Affairs for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Scheril is on the Hemp Pilot Program Advisory Board for the University of Florida and serves on the Broward County, Florida Medical Marijuana Advisory Board. She is on the board for the Friends of Hemp and was a Founding Board Member for the U.S. Hemp Builders Association (not to be confused with the U.S. Hemp Building Association Foundation). She is also President of consulting firm Green Sustainable Strong, LLC. In her spare time she volunteers with the Winrock Foundation delivering Marketing training to Farmers in Ghana, Africa. In 2018, she was a recipient of the Crohns Foundation Blood, Sweat, and Tears Award, and the Cannabis Business Award's Industry MVP Award. She is former In House Counsel for Sunflora/ Your CBD Store and former In House Counsel for Green Roads World.

Maurice started a personal initiative called the 100 mile hunger walk almost 10 years ago now, to raise awareness and funds to end hunger, poverty and injustice. It means that he walks 100 miles in a week (15-20 miles a day) while also at the same time lift up the stories of those in need as well as the volunteers who try to assist those people in need. His organization developed an app to increase the impact via gamification and most recently he started a podcast building on the conversations he had during those 100 mile walks about people's drive/motivation/worries/hopes and dreams. Our talk with him will be done while he is in the middle of the Ration Challenge as he will be eating the same as a Syrian refugee living in a camp in Jordan, based on food packs distributed by the Ration Challenge's local partner organization. By raising money, Maurice and the other Challenge participants help bring emergency food, hygiene kits and life-saving support to the people that need it most.

Nmuta Jones founded Mediabreeze to bring forward news ways of thinking through the medium of technology. In early 2020 he launched MediaBreeze Mobile, a dedicated wing of MediaBreeze that will specifically produce interactive 3D mobile games. The mobile platform is an incredible opportunity to take our message and vision and get into global markets that, up until this point, are often flooded with negative and relatively useless media coming from the West. Media is a free space, and it's wide open to anyone who has the focus to create. WE are the creators who want to provide positive, enriching, self-affirming media into markets in Africa, North America, South America, Asia, and other places where most indigenous peoples do not usually engage with media that affirms who they are , where they come from, and the integrity of indigenous ancestral traditions.

Alicia Fall has been an educator, performing artists and public speaker for over 30 years, addressing humanitarian issues.
In 2009 Ms Fall founded Her Many Voices, an organization of artists responding to humanitarian need. They move passions to purpose for the betterment of women, children and Mother Earth. Since then they’ve expanded to include global community members and activists.
Fall is a TEDx Talk presenter, a recipient of the New York State Assembly Citation Award, board member for the Coalition Against Global Genocide, and board member for Tiyospaye Winyan Maka, both as a representative for Indigenous Peoples.
Ms. Fall has been on the International Hemp Speaking circuit, speaking on Hemp and Humanity. Presentations include: the ASACON Hemp Conference (Asahikawa, Japan); the Euro Hemp Tour (Milan, Italy; and Naklo, Poland); and at the Posner Center for International Development (Denver, Colorado). She was also invited as a panel presenter at The Asian Hemp Summit (Kathmandu, Nepal).
