This podcast is to show others that they are not alone in their journey on the narrow road with God, whatever that may mean for them.
Wow, it’s good to be back. But change has arrived. This podcast is being renamed from The Narrow Road to The Pondering Woman Podcast. And it’ll be the same, but different. I hope you come along in the evolution.
The time has come for me to push pause on the podcast and give myself the space I’ve probably long needed to ease into a new job and all the transition of this season. I will be back to finish my goal of 365 days of podcasting, hopefully sooner rather than later, so please stay tuned, but I just need to have some breathing space so that I can give this commitment every thing I started it with. Thank you for understanding and I will be back with you very soon.
In todays episode we see Paul use the allegory of Sarah and Hagar from the Old Testament to display the difference between living as a slave and living as free and how the two ultimately cannot share space. The commentary also helps us point out to ourselves where we may be sharing space with slavery (aka the law) and pushes us to kick out the law from our lives once and for all!
Todays episode is all about our sonship. Inside of other religions and worldly philosophy we are slaves, but inside the freedom of Christ we are sons. Not just sons only but HEIRS; heirs of God. Truly this passage of scripture is so powerful, meaty and freeing that it deserves its own entire podcast, but, for our purposes here, I hope it stirs up your hunger to dive deeper into the reality of this sonship because once this truth gets down deep, you’ll never be the same.
In todays episode we finish Galatians Chapter 3 and learn that the Mosaic Law was essentially given to show man their sin and unending need for a Savior. And Paul ends the chapter with one heck of a series of statements underscoring how faith in Christ rids believers of any dividing lines that would separate them; no Jew or Greek, no slave or free, no man or woman. We are all one inside of this faith in Jesus. What glory!
Todays episode examines the curse of the Law and how true righteousness is found through faith. We come to a deeper understanding of what it means for Jesus to have become the ultimate curse on our behalf so that we may be free from the curse of the law. It helps us see more clearly why bringing any part of the law into our new found faith is an offense to what Jesus did for us.
In todays episode we see Paul turn his attention back to the Galatians as he begins to question them about how they have turned away from the gospel of grace and fallen in the trap of works. In his words you can hear a sense of righteous indignation and jealousy over the work of Holy Spirit as he tries to make clear that they were given everything they needed in the true gospel and that this false gospel has provided and will provide them nothing in the end.
In todays episode we see Paul confront Peter for his hypocrisy as he withdraws from the very Gentiles he would normally spend time with only to snub them to try to save face in front of legalistic Jewish Christians. Paul was having none of this betrayal because he knew how wrong it was and how damaging this behavior and theology could be to the entire message of the cross. He stood in this awkward, uncomfortable conflict because he loved everyone involved so much that he was willing to wound them so they would come back to truth; truth that would keep ALL of us in freedom rather than bound to rules.
In todays episode we read Galatians Chapter 2 where Paul describes an intense meeting he has with the apostles in Jerusalem to discuss the gospel he preaches and the ways it disagrees with the expectation of circumcision that had begun to seep into the gospel message as time had gone by. He came to demonstrate what he’d been doing but also to confront what he thought was a false gospel so that all of us would remain free. I think we would do well to appreciate Paul’s fighting spirit and what that has meant for all of us to this day. May we be so bold and strong to hold to truth as effectively!
In todays episode we pick up where we left off yesterday and study the last half of Galatians Chapter 1. We see Paul beginning to build his case against this false gospel which is spreading throughout Galatia by reminding people of who he was, who he is, and Who gave him the gospel that he’s preached to them. It continues to set the stage for the truth that he will soon espouse in the coming chapters.
In todays episode we start a new Bible study series on the book of Galatians. I am excited! I really enjoy the podcast when it gets into “Bible study mode”. Today we leaned on our trusty commentary to give us a bit of backstory and context to this book and set ourselves up to see what issue Paul is confronting that will explain the rest of the letter.

In todays episode we read a passage out of Mere Christianity that deepens our understanding of why Jesus came and gave His life for us. He is the ultimate captive-freer and debt payer. He didn’t die to keep us from punishment but to set us free from ourselves. I hope this talk gives you things to think about!
In todays episode we discuss the love of God and how it is not equal but it is unique to each individual. He knows each one of us specifically and He pursues us with that specific intentionality. He is the very best Dad.
In todays episode we consider what it is to truly lean on our own understanding, rather than God. I use a very real example of what can happen when we choose to lay down our own understanding and receive the truth of God into our perspective and act from that place. I hope this reflection encourages you to look at your life and see where your perspective might be blinded by your own understanding in an area. Todays episode is so special to me because we have a guest joining us. Hannah is one of my closest friends and never ceases to amaze me with her unwavering willingness to follow Jesus on the narrow way, no matter where it may take her. Today she shares her testimony of surrender that has led her into a place of limitless freedom that she has never known before and has unlocked so much inside of her that she didn't even know was there. I hope it inspires you to deeper places of surrender in your own life and fills you with faith and wonder as you consider what surrender may unlock inside of YOU.
In todays episode we read from My Utmost for His Highest to gain a deeper conviction for the power of obedience and the point of brokenness. Our Father seeks to bring us into His best, oneness. But we have to say YES. We have to choose trust in obedience and yield up to the breaking that we might live the claim that “it is not I who live, but Christ who lives within me.” This is what makes a saint a saint. “Not my will, Lord, but Yours be done”.
In todays episode we meditate on expectation and the way that solitude and care weave together as preparation for the return of the Lord. We see how God honors the reality of our hearts to long for Him in His absence but also prophecies our coming joy of His return. This is the narrow way; our pursuit of solitude, our devotion to care, our joyful expectation of His coming. Be blessed!
In todays episode we continue our study of the value of solitude and learn that from it we gain the capacity to truly care. We read a passage out of Henry Nouwen’s book “Out of Solitude” where he teaches us the true value of caring and how profoundly care can change peoples lives - but how equally damaging curing people without care can be. It cautions those of us who believe in the healing miracles of God to remember that people aren’t projects and that our first priority should be caring for the one in front of us over any sort of miracle we may witness. I hope this episode drives you deeper into a need for solitude that care may flourish in your spirit.
In todays episode we examine the fruit of solitude and the ways in which it makes space for us to care. Solitude is a vital part of the spirit-filled life but it isn’t taught or spoken of too much, in my experience. I explore the beauty of what solitude has taught me in the wake of a very difficult life season and we study the words of Henry Nouwen in his book “Out of Solitude” to gain a deeper perspective of the difference between a life of action and a life of solitude.
Todays episode is a vulnerable one. I share my perspective of walking with God in the wilderness and all the way I try to wrestle my way out of it. But the Bible has been such a source of comfort in this season, and it turns out that’s exactly what it’s meant to be en lieu of His manifest presence. We then read “Give Me More of God”, an article by Jon Bloom that absolutely devastates in the best way with both its comfort and its guidance in accepting the sometimes elusiveness of spiritual intimacy. I hope this episodes blesses you.
Todays episode takes a look at the Resurrection story from the perspective of Matthew, Mark and John’s gospel to give us the fullest and most well-rounded grasp of that world changing event. I hope that it adds to our mental image of that time in history and further emboldens our faith as we continue along the narrow road.
Today is the day we’ve been waiting for. The moment is here. The event that all of Christianity hinges itself upon; the Resurrection of Christ. Our study of the Book of Luke comes to a close with Chapter 24. We see Christ defeat death and glory in His appearing to the disciples that their faith would grow to establish the church. He is truly a conqueror.
Todays episode outlines Jesus’ gruesome death of crucifixion. It is a truly emotional and deep piece of writing and history. The depth of suffering Love was willing to go to bring us back to our Father is unfathomable. One line in the commentary about this chapter will forever stand out to me as a picture of how sacrificial Jesus was (when you know how painful it would have been for Him to speak while hanging from the cross): When Jesus spoke out “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” the commentary says, “This prayer was heard and noted because He had no quiet place to pray.” That line - He had no quiet place to pray - hits me so hard because in these last moments Jesus has lost everything; His freedom, His ministry, His friends and family, His clothes and soon His life…but He even lost His access to the secret place. The treasured moments of private prayer that He lived His whole life from were stripped from Him and there is something so intimate about that sacrifice; something we don’t often consider or realize He lost. And He did all of this for US.
In todays episode we read the first half of Luke 23 where we see Jesus handed over to Pilot and Herod as the religious leaders seek to find justification in their quest to murder the Christ. In todays episode we see Jesus’ arrest finally take place. Luke Chapter 22 details the agony of His time in prayer at Gethsemene, the bitter betrayal by Judas, the exhausting trials all night, and the multiple denials by Peter. I hope todays episode intimately acquaint us with the depths Jesus was willing to suffer for us. There is no limit to His love.
In todays episode we have a reached The Last Supper of Jesus’ life and His final messages to the disciples before His betrayal and arrest would take place. It is a somber and humbling chapter where we see the great love Jesus has for His disciples and for all of us and the determination of His heart to share one last meal with those He loved.
In todays episode we study Luke Chapter 21 and dive into Jesus’ prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem and diaspora of the Jewish people that would take place in 70 A.D. and how that foreshadows the reality of the end of the age still to come. It is a chapter of warning, both to the people of that time and to us today.
Today has been a difficult day for me, so I decided to turn to Psalm 23 for comfort. I hope you find that it serves as a reminder and a comfort to your soul as well, wherever you are today. In todays episode we see another standoff between Jesus and the religious authorities as they continue their quest to catch Him in something worthy of punishment or death. Effortlessly Jesus evades even the hint of scandal by refusing to play into their tricks and always being….well, smarter (and wiser) than them. May we learn from their continuously prideful, ignorant and destructive ways.
In todays episode we see Jesus finally enter Jerusalem for His final time. It is the moment His life has been building up to. It is the final week of His life. And, Jesus being Jesus, He is still teaching His disciples and the crowds around Him the ways of His Kingdom; trying with all His might to make clear His purpose and plan.
In todays episode we study Luke Chapter 18 and see Jesus call us to persistent prayer, warn us against pride, teach us the obstacles wealth creates to Kingdom entrance, and how ungovernable desperation can make Jesus stand still. It is truly a remarkable chapter.
In todays episode we prepare our hearts for the continued journey of Jesus’ life by taking a quick pit stop into the reflections of Oswald Chambers on prayer. I hope it prepares us to sit with the depth of Jesus’ life and make space to truly revel in what He has done for us as we talk to Him in prayer.

We’ll put a pin in this passage for now and see if we can’t do more of a deep dive into verses 22-37, especially verse 37, to see what we can find with a little more time.

It’s got all that good stuff about the shepherd going after the lost sheep, the woman finding her lost coin, and the father celebrating his lost son. In todays episode we study Luke 14 where we see Jesus display both His passion to bring all people into His Kingdom, but also His expression of the demands that the Kingdom will require of those who enter. We must all truly count the cost of Kingdom living and never fail to tell the full truth to all when we preach this gospel ourselves.

In todays episode I take a pause from our study of the life of Jesus as told by the book of Luke and seek to reflect on what we’ve learned and what I have been able to feel as I’ve been confronted with the profound words of Jesus. So much of the last three and a half years for me have felt like a dark night of the soul; a time of stripping away and transforming. I’m not sure what your years have felt like, but I hope todays episode serves to bring you stillness as we all sit with the deep truths of Gods word.

It is a battle of light verses darkness as Jesus tears down the religious mindsets of the day with the pure truth of the heart of God. He sets the record straight and pulls no punches. The distraction that comes from a flurry of activity can truly cost us spiritually and relationally, verses the peace that comes from focus and rest can build every part of our life. In todays episode we see Jesus encountering the faith of a certain Roman centurion, setting the record straight with John the Baptist and all who follow Him and teaches a valuable lesson on the forgiveness of God to a religious person stuck in judgment. Luke 7 is such an intense and full chapter. I hope it adds much to your life today.

This episode is the 3rd and final part of diving deep into what the last three years in New Zealand have looked and felt like for me and what I've learned and wish I'd done differently. There is so much I could speak on this topic and maybe one day it'll come full circle with entirely new and positive energy to share. But for now this is the raw real truth. What happens when you step out in faith on a dream and the dream becomes a nightmare? This is Part Two of a series on my experience living in New Zealand where I dive deeper into the fullness of what took this country from being my hoped-for paradise to being the most depressing season of my life. It's a tough one, folks, and I feel vulnerable to share my experiences but here I go. It is getting better day by day as I turn focus back onto Jesus and choose to believe that all things work out for good in the end. We're all a work in progress!
