Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
5 “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries[a] wide and the tassels on their garments long;6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.
8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

CONTEXT:
On the fifth of the month – it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin – the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, by the River Kebar in the land of the Babylonians. (vv2,3)
By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. … How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land? (Psalm 137:1,4)
CONCLUSION:
“Our Father in Heaven”: let us remember His glory.
“Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles…” (1 Peter 2:11): but God is near us.
We pray “your kingdom come, your will be done” (Matthew 6:10): for the kingdom, the power and the glory are His, now and for ever. Amen.
All Christians have a role and works to do as members of the body of Christ.

So let us thank God for this new covenant as we seek to:
•grow in our love of God’s will
•deepen our knowledge of the Lord
•rejoice in His forgiveness.

John 14:1-31
- What are you afraid of today?
If you will come to Him, the Lord can and will replace your fear with His precious peace.
- Are you able to get your eyes above your trials, and see the gates of home?
If the burdens of life have gotten you down, come before the Lord and let Him help you cast your gaze higher than this earth.
- What are you trusting in to take you to Heaven?
Everybody believes in something. Have you ever trusted Jesus as your personal Saviour? If not, you can be saved if you will come to Him by faith.

Now what? Perhaps we’ve recently achieved some major goal – now what? Maybe we’ve drawn a line under one chapter of our life – now what? That’s the question on King David’s mind in today's passage 2 Samuel 7.
