When it comes to following our dreams and doing the things we’re most passionate about we can be our own worst enemy. Many have self-sabotaging behaviors and don't realize how the words we speak influences our reality. The more you talk about negative things in your life, the more you call them in.
In this episode, Nancy discusses how our words and what we tell ourselves can either be our biggest influences or our greatest detractor. She sheds insight on our inner voice and how what it says to us, has a direct impact on how we see ourselves and how we navigate through the world. She shares pointers on how to change our inner voice, recaps last week's strategic visioning workshop, and discusses how one's childhood influences who they grow up to be.

Most people perceive all the value to be in the result, not the process. The person you become in the process — the skills you learn, the experience you gain, the insights you discover — are infinitely better than simply getting what you want immediately.
In this week's episode, Nancy discusses the importance of committing to the process when seeking real sustainable change. The process requires you to become creative. You cannot help but become smarter, savvier, wiser, more disciplined, and more poised than you were before. If you skip a lesson, the process spits you out. You are forced to learn, or quit. Nancy explains why when you commit to the process?—?never giving up, creatively overcoming setbacks and obstacles, trying new strategies?—?a powerful metamorphosis happens.
If you've ever struggled with commitment, this episode is a must listen.

In this week's episode, Nancy sits down with playwright, A.R. Garcia to discuss his new play, She Hates Coffee. The production is a romantic comedy that explores our deepest feelings, the complexity of friendship, relationships and decisions from a male perspective.
From a young age men are taught that certain aspects of their personality are not acceptable, they are taught not to cry or express in words, how they are feeling. Because of the way boys are socialized, their ability to deal with emotions has been systematically undermined. Men are taught, point-by-point, not to feel, not to cry, and not to find words to express themselves.
In this interview Nancy and A.R. discuss his work, why he is passionate about telling stories that center on love and relationships from a male perspective, and how men can shift the ways they have historically viewed and expressed themselves within relationships.

Social media can have the most confident individual feeling like a loser needing to “measure up” to their peers. The constant barrage of perfectly filtered photos that appear on Instagram are bound to knock many people’s self-esteem as they consciously or subconsciously compare themselves to others and their aesthetically beautiful Instagram photos. While social media platforms can have their benefits, using them too frequently can make you feel increasingly unhappy and isolated in the long run. While everyone may be posting their wins or their highlight reels, not everyone is as honest or transparent about posting their suffering, their losses, and rejections. In this episode, Nancy talks about the dangers of social media, the perception of perfection, and why we shouldn't allow ourselves to be sucked into the unrealistic expectations of what others are posting online. Also in this episode, Nancy talks about her own journey, she shares how she felt when she had her miscarriage, her husband's cancer diagnoses, and the car accident that killed one of the people closest to her.

"You will be triggered in the areas you need to be healed." - Marianne Williamson
_____________________________________________________________
Do you ever react with anger or fear, and say or do things, and then wish you hadn’t? You end up wishing you could take it all back, or rewind it, or get a do-over? Often times, our emotional triggers are clear indicators that there is some internal healing that needs to be done. When caught in the grip of our emotional triggers, we can easily get thrown off kilter, our perceptions can become distorted and our interpretations of events and people can become myopic, blameful or just inaccurate. Being triggered can sabotage our best of intentions and make us act in ways that are contrary to who and how we truly want to be.
*
In this week's episode, Nancy discusses emotional triggers and how understanding your emotional triggers can actually become a catalyst for deep healing, self-understanding, personal growth and more fulfilling relationships. Nancy also recaps the Marianne Williamson Lecture she attended and reveals the next event she is working on.

With the flexibility and reach of the internet, social media has made it easy for many to leverage and monetize their skills as entrepreneurs and side hustlers. Yet, many give up before ever reaching any real success. Often times they change direction or pursue other endeavors instead of giving their all to what they started. When people constantly bounce around looking for that thing that will make them successful, they don't give themselves a chance to become experts at what they do. This week Nancy talks about the importance of staying the course and why focus and consistency are the key to winning. She also shares her favorite summer finds, does a midyear goals check-in, and talks about the new internet craze #theShiggyChallenge.

A tiny choice that you take today can be the foundation of a sequence of millions of events and consequent choices that shape your future.
Have you ever thought what effect your today actions will have ten years from now? The truth is many never consider how one action, one single step can impact their whole life. In this episode, Nancy talks about how our future is determined by the choices we make, don’t make, or leave for others to make for us.

That includes everything you’ve done, thought and said in the last few days. Nancy also talks about self awareness, really knowing yourself, and the importance of taking accountabilty for your choices.
Sometimes where we start in life isn't where we end up. In this episode Nancy reflects on how her early days on the open mic poetry scene led her directly into doing work she is passionate about. She candidly talks about how stepping onto those stages gave her confidence and helped her to find and hone her voice. She also reflects on the importance of doing a self assessment of your strengths and areas where you fall short, because even though she wasn't a strong performance poet, she was able to take that experience and the skills she gained from it and pivot towards her purpose.

For many women, there's this misconception that if you haven't accomplished certain things by a specific age then you're a failure. The reality is women are under tremendous pressure to accomplish so much in a short amount of time. Whether it's getting married and starting a family or rising to the top of their career, many women feel like they're racing against the clock. The truth is, age should not be a factor by which we measure our success and accomplishments. There is no age limit to success. In this episode Nancy discusses our obsession with age and why so many women often feel like they're not measuring up.
She also dishes on breaking cultural and family cycles, losing friends, and how friends you lose aren't really friends, but instead are teachers meant to be with us only for a short time to teach us important lessons about ourselves.

While many believe being vulnerable is a sign of weakness, the truth is that it takes incredible strength to be vulnerable. To be vulnerable means that you are willing to take the mask off and show the world who you really are. For some, that concept is terrifying, but it is only through being vulnerable that true connections happen.
In this episode, Nancy talks about the power of vulnerability and how important it is in forging meaningful relationships. She also talks about how to deal with haters and those who wish us ill will; and how our ability to love our enemies is the true test of our character.

What does it mean to be self-aware? Developing self awareness doesn’t happen through reading books. It is through specific activities and conscious action that we increase our power of observation. As you develop self awareness you are able to make changes in the thoughts and interpretations you make in your mind. Self awareness is the greatest agent for change and is first step in creating what you want and mastering your life. Where you focus your attention, your emotions, reactions, personality and behavior determine where you go in life. Once you practice paying attention to your thoughts/feelings/behaviors/choices/reactions, you will no longer be satisfied with living on the surface of life. And as you gain more and more self-awareness, your experience of life will expand exponentially.
.
In this week's episode, Nancy talks about how self-awareness or lack thereof, can either propel you to success or hinder you. She talks about her own self-awareness journey, how certain realizations have completely changed the direction of her life, and why being self-aware is the ultimate key to success. Listen now to see how self-aware you are and learn what to do if you're not.
When you know you're why, you can endure any how. Knowing your why is an important first step in figuring out how to achieve the goals that excite you and create a life you enjoy living (versus merely surviving!). Indeed, only when you know your ‘why’ will you find the courage to take the risks needed to get ahead, stay motivated when the chips are down, and move your life onto an entirely new, more challenging, and more rewarding trajectory. In this episode Nancy talks about the importance of having a strong why statement, how to create your own, and shares her own why sentence. She also talks about her upcoming vision board bootcamp and why anyone who has fallen and wants to get back on track needs to attend.

Most women are conditioned to believe that if they support another woman they are somehow limiting their own success not realizing that there is enough success in this world for all of us. When we help, support, and empower another woman we are actually helping, supporting, and empowering ourselves. When we change our way of thinking the things we attract into our lives also change. The key to attaining unlimited success is to shift our mindset from one of scarcity (not enough) to one of abundance. When we give, the Universe reciprocates tenfold.

Q: Are human beings meant to be monogamous?
A: Biologically? Probably not. Socially and spiritually? Possibly so.
Examining human capacity for monogamy forces examination of our most deeply rooted primal urges and, judging from the practice of monogamy across the animal kingdom, it seems the odds are stacked against humans as naturally conforming to monogamy. Leading experts in the field of evolutionary psychology often label humans as socially monogamous, meaning they pair up with a mate for life—but like to step out for flings. Men are generally considered more likely to have sexual relationships outside of the one shared with their female counterpart, due in some degree to men’s primal command to spread their seed. However, both men and women are biologically engineered to enhance their evolutionary progress by seeking out and attracting high-quality partners.
In this discussion we seek to examine the current state of fidelity. Has fidelity and exclusivity become a thing of the past?
There seems to be a new trend when it comes to relationships. Many are opting into open relationships. When opening the door to an open relationship, what are the risks involved? Are there rules set as to the do’s and don’ts between couples and if so, is it a matter of conscience or do we assume loyalty.
Join us on real talk as we dive into this week’s topic of is monogamy dead?
Daily life in New York City is colored by a blatant disregard for women.
We are affronted almost every day by men who feel they have a right to talk to us, to approach us, to go so far as to touch us without any kind of permission. Women on the street, in the subway, in bars, are constantly maneuvering around the wills of men to keep themselves safe. And despite the achievements of the women's movement over the years, misogyny remains a persistent force in our culture.
By the time a young girl hits puberty she is faced with having to deal with unwanted sexual attention & harassment by her peers a& older men alike. As she gets older & enters womanhood, the harassment continues. Instead of educating boys & men on how to treat women, women are taught, conditioned even to accept and "deal with" it.
Join me Sunday, February 14 @ 9pm for a candid discussion with writer & slam poet Elisabet "LeesahVee" Velasquez as we dialogue about the pervasive misogyny occurring within our communities & our attempt to identify solutions to eradicate it.
Elisabet Velasquez Bio:
Elisabet Velasquez is a Brooklyn born poet and started writing as a means to flee a world that otherwise had no escape. In 2009 she began performing under the stage name Ms. Sick Prose at the Legendary Nuyorican Poets Café and earned a spot on the coveted Nuyorican National Slam Team where she placed Fourth in the Nation.
She is a mother of two children whom she refers to as her best poems to date. She has performed on various stages and universities around the country, and is currently working on her first book of poetry.
"There is a stigma associated with being a bad bitch that delineates the type of character women want to associate themselves with. As if being goal oriented, driven and alpha is a bad thing. Here's what happens when women place societal isms on other women, we become competitive. We become unfriendly. We begin to other. We become the mean girls that tell other girls they can't sit with us. We become bitter. We become petty. We become categorized in memes. We become fetishized through a patriarchal lens on what real women should be. We become the reason "I only have guy friends."
In her most recent essay, The Cardi B Effect, Maria Rodriguez discusses the dangers of categorizing and judging women who seemingly decide to take control of their lives, their sexuality, and commit to living life on their terms by any means necessary. Tune in Sunday, January 10th @ 9 pm as we discuss the essay that has taken social media by storm. It's a candid discussion on why women love to hate on the "Bad Bitch" #thecardibeffect.
