Tonight, we're gonna take a look at the Grimm brothers' tale, and the movement started by and, mainly for, the baby-boomers, and how it inspired a Gen-X suburban kid to explore the wild-man in himself.
2017 marks the 110th anniversary of the camp at Brownsea Island, UK, whence began a global movement of character-training and skills-development for boys and young men. We'll take a look at why Baden-Powell felt scouting was important, and why it remains important to modern-day veterans and members.
We'll even consider the pros and cons of co-ed scouting.

Generations of men admired the manly and the excellent, and sought to cultivate in themselves what was regarded as good. From elder members of their own families, and from unrelated mentors, boys and young men learned what it meant to be a man, and learned what it was to be a responsible citizen.
Some fifty years have passed since the planting of seeds in the soil of society, from which wild and tangled vines of misandry have grown. What were once the strongholds of masculine virtue and fellowhip have given way to programmes which treat boys, as Chrstina Hoff Sommers puts it, "like defective girls."
Yet, in response to the onslaught,. or perhaps in spite of it, there are men out there who are seeking to reclaim the virtues in themselves, and to cultivate them in the young.
This afternoon, Woodwose Radio takes a look at many ways in which men have defined manliness and excellence, ranging from Classical thinkers, to modern-day men.
Tonight, we'll take a look at a subject about which there has been little written, and which I believe bears investigation: the pagan Male Mysteries. We'll take a look at how some authors have defined them,, and consider their significance to the lives of men and boys, pagan and non-pagan alike.
I've been involved with another pagan podcast (www.magicalmusings.net) for a couple of years, since the last episodes of Woodwose Radio were recorded. You can find all the shows there that I've deleted off BTR, including all the episodes of Tarot Talk and Magical Musings.
2017 will be a new beginning for WR, in that we'll be returning to my original plans for the series. The shows will be looking at European myths, legends, and fairy-tales, their symbolism, and their importance to men and boys in the present culture. The idea is to provide resources for pagan men, mythopoetically-leaning seekers, single men, and fathers of sons, for a revival of the male spirit and virtue.
Potential listeners should be forewarned that I'm not a feminist, and I make no apologies for it; in my opinion, identifying as a "pagan" doesn't automatically imply a Leftist political stance, and to make such an assumption smacks of Fundamentalism.
