Everyday we're tuned into our phones, not knowing how toxic some topics can be to our mental health. Balancing social media and mental wellness can be difficult. Join Grace and Jasmine for weekly episodes as they navigate through hot topics and provide wellness solutions to keep you informed and sane.
Today the hosts commemorate, STDH (shake their dang heads), laugh at and express their frustrations and joys with Black culture in America. A realized dream for both Grace and Jasmine finally seeing Black actors, not only live through horror films but thrive (i.e. Lovecraft Country). However, the truth of the matter is there is so much more that could be done for Black excellence to be recognized. While we wait, we celebrate the progress made so far!

Today our hosts cover the unrealistic expectations of beauty standards set by society for men and women. Jasmine educates Grace about the different types of girdles, and she shares her early experiences with the body shaping tool. The hosts also cover the fine line of self-care and hiding one's self in regards to make-up. Of course, they cover hair. Growing anywhere else besides head seems to be a woman's grief but, what if we celebrated hair, like we do for men?
Next, they share what beauty expectations each has decided they aren’t putting up with and both agreed that doing hair was #1. From costly visits to the salon to damaging techniques and products, Jasmine and Grace have learned to take care of their hair in a more nurturing and loving way.
The show wraps up with a challenge for the audience to love and appreciate every inch of themselves- literally. Until next week, you can follow the hosts on IG or check out Jasmine's reaction channel here and get your inspirational apparel from Amethyst by Grace here. In this week's episode, Jasmine and Grace, compare expectations to the actual reality that occurs. With the rise of COVID-19 cases in the United States and increased restrictions on travel and get-togethers, no doubt the holidays will be different this year! Beginning with reduced guests at Thanksgiving dinner, Jasmine shared her delight at an early dinner and Grace recalled her Thanksgiving plans for her dog - and then remembered he didn't know what day it was.
Our hosts share times that they were disappointed by a role model or celebrity, mainly those involved in the #Metoo, separating the artist from the art, and ending of Lovecraft Country.
In the end, Grace and Jasmine wrapped up with personal stories about overcoming changes in childhood dreams and career goals. Grace's wellness tip for the week for managing expectations and keeping a positive outlook despite changes: 1)Be present and 2) make a plan.
Join us next week for our discussion on Beauty & Pain (But Why Though..?).

Welcome to A Balanced Reality podcast with your hosts, Jasmine and Grace! This introductory episode is to get the listeners to know the hosts, provide a little background (not how they met because they don't remember), and hopefully answers your burning question: what is A Balanced Reality all about?
We open with Jasmine introducing herself as an artist, avid video gamer, and the host of her very own YouTube Channel, Jaxz Love, where she shares her reactions to her favorite music videos. You can find out more here.
Next, we meet Grace, who is a creative entrepreneur and owns Amethyst By Grace, an online clothing store that hopes to inspire conversations in the Black community about mental wellness. You can shop here.
With neither of the hosts remembering the exact moment they met, we move on to how this podcast came to be and what the listeners can expect each week: episodes with a variety of topics, each one promising to be as entertaining and informative as the last. The podcast was created for two purposes, 1) understanding that mental health can be a difficult topic in the Black Community, A Balanced Reality aims to use this platform to create that space of safety and, 2) your very own reality check in a flood of social media influence.
Tune in next week for a candid discussion on Expectations vs. Reality!
