Architecture Apprenticeships combine practical experience with academic training from university, and offer students the chance to earn while they learn and qualify as an architect. In this episode of RIBA Future Architects in Conversation, Ashrakur Rahman (London South Bank University) and Sang Min Cha (Chris Dyson Architects) speak to Architecture Apprentices Lillian Bartella, Arthur Wood and Jonah Howley (London South Bank University) about what it’s like to study an architecture apprenticeship. They discuss the benefits of apprenticeships, finding a job and how to find a work-life balance when studying and working at the same time.

With architects responsible for designing buildings that are accessible for all, it’s vital that disabled people are better represented in the profession. In this episode we hear from four architecture students about the limited representation of disabled people in the profession and the struggles they have faced in architecture education. Host Jordan Whitewoood-Neil (London School of Architecture) is joined by Chris Laing (Deaf Architecture Front / Haworth Tompkins), Poppy Levison (Central Saint Martins) and Daniel Innes (University of Westminster) discuss what needs to change and how the RIBA, the ARB and schools of architecture can support this progression.

What to do after graduation? This is a question that can overwhelm final-year students. Amid final year projects, dissertations, exams and other assignments, somehow architectural students have to also focus on applying for Part 1 placements or, in some cases, applying to graduate school. This podcast with host Nana Adwoa Agyemang will explore what this part of the journey to becoming an architect has been like for guests; Jake Obichere, Colleen Laurent and Ellie Sampson, with the hope that their experiences can be of help to Future Architects who are now wearing the same shoes as they did in the not-so-distant past.

With dissertations often forming a significant proportion of a final year grade thus a Future Architects job prospects, this podcast hopes to dismantle the fearsome weight choosing a dissertation topic might carry for final-year students. What’s it like doing your Part 1 via the apprenticeship route? How do you balance work and university? How do you even get an apprenticeship in the first place? In this episode, Emily Foster (Podcast Host & Level 6 Apprentice at AHMM) is joined by her fellow apprentices to discuss these questions and more as they enter the final year of their degree apprenticeship with their respective practices and London South Bank University.

This episode of the RIBA Future Architects podcast aspires to expand on the theme of How are we looking (the then-focus of Crumble Magazine). Through conversation, this podcast hopes to begin to explore the possibility of a neoteric architecture professional that is able to look beyond the status quo and adopt inclusivity, environmental consciousness, and the need for greater opportunity for all as core tenets.
Our host is James Haynes, who is an architecture student at the Edinburgh School of Architecture. At the time of recording this podcast, James was a design editor for Crumble Magazine. James is joined by Andy Summers (architect, educator and the co-founder and-director of the Architecture Fringe), Harsha Gore (final year Master of Architecture student, head of academic resources and group treasurer at Decolonise Architecture and a certified Passive House consultant) and Harriet Jennings (curator, cultural producer and Architecture Foundation Young Trustee)

Climate action - in the built environment and elsewhere, is not a new phenomenon. Inspiring actions have been taken and excellent work has been going on for decades but it still far from the norm in education and practice.
