“The globalized food system is what’s causing us to be so sick…We can’t change this individually and we can start with individual change.” Nathalie Kelley’s mission is to connect people with a true and pure source of food. The Peruvian-Australian actress known for her role as Neela in the 2006 action film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and for her roles in various television series including The Vampire Diaries, Dynasty and The Baker and the Beauty, is here to remind us of the importance of reclaiming wisdom through our locally sourced foods, indigenous tribes, wisdom keepers of the forest and sacred plants. One way to do this is to “buy local and from local farmers to bypass the globalized food system and ensure the farmers receive 100% of the proceeds…Right now, toxins that are killing the bugs are eventually making it to us…and bigger isn’t better when it comes to food.”Another way to start is to grow a garden in your backyard, create a community garden or nurture plants at home.We also spoke about the future of Indigenous tribes and BILL PL2903 which was threatening the rights of Indigenous tribes to own their their lands in Brazil.
Update: This interview was pre-recorded and post-recording; on September 27th, the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil reached a decision on Bill PL 2903 ruling in favor of indigenous tribes. Another 12 conditions were ruled in favor of the wisdom keepers, some of them include compensation for the exploitation of their natural assets amongst other benefits.

¿Estás dispuesto a ir adentro a sanar esa energía?

Honoring the past and securing the future.
In October 2020 Emiliana Molina was invited to give a speech to the Navy Region Southwest (California, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah).
In this speech she speaks about:
Doing journalism for the good of humankind.
Voicing your truth from your heart.
Emiliana shares some of her vulnerabilities to let you know you're not alone in your journey to leave behind all self-sabotaging behaviors and embracing your self love.
The times she didn't feel like she was enough even though she was at the highest point in her career.
The times she didn't believe in herself and used to measure her self worth through external validation.
Doing conscious journalism.
Being true to your heart.
Past, present and future. Honoring your past, enjoying your present and planing big dreams for your future.
The importance of diversity and celebrating our hispanic heritage and our roots.
Honoring our ancestors and where we come from.
Truth, transparency and accountability.

Corina, a former colleague of Miguel Bedoy —whose interview we published on Tuesday, October 12th– corroborates some of the allegations Bedoy is alleging occurred within KDEN-TV while they were employed under the NBCUniversal affiliate.
Corina says she would call in sick when she had her period because of severe pain. When Corina called in sick one time, she alleges her former News Director asked her why, grabbed a calendar and then asked Corina to give her the dates of her time of the month.
Please remember this is a safe space for journalists to speak their truth. Let’s be mindful of how difficult it was for Corina to voice publicly some of the incidents she endured during her time in KDEN-TV.

🇲🇽 ND “called the Mexican audience ‘juanitas.’” This term is used in a denigrating manner to refer to the lower income Mexican communities and Mexicans in general. Mexicans are KDEN-TV’s main audience.
🎙”Nobody wants to give me a job because I’m suing NBCUniversal and Telemundo. The media doesn’t want that, they don’t want us to talk.”

We’re always telling your stories and it’s time someone tells ours. This is mine. I post this feeling a little scared, a little vulnerable and questioning whether it’ll be well received. If I’m telling you the stories of other journalists, it’s only fair I speak of mine. If I’m speaking of holding the news industry accountable and improving journalism, it’s only fair I hold myself accountable first. I invite you to tune in to my many failures as a journalist before I felt like I succeeded...a few things I feel I could’ve done better, moments of guilt, shame and depression and also the many blessings that came with being in the news industry. I hope this brave post can inspire positive change in individual journalists and newsrooms across the world. This is my story.

“Journalists are getting exposed to the emotional distress of other people in a very very intense way and that can be difficult to deal with and difficult to cope with,” says Dr. Anthony Feinstein, Associate scientist, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Feinstein was the first to begin studying mental health in frontline journalists almost two decades ago, a pioneer in his field. He’s published three books on war reporting and their hazards and is currently based out of Toronto, Canada where he is a professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and a neuropsychiatrist. “Domestic journalism can be very difficult. There's a lot of violence in society,” Dr. Feinstein tells us, adding that “you don't have a direct threat like in a war zone but it can still be emotionally challenging work to do this because of the nature of the content that you’re dealing with.” He tells us “this kind of exposure, in theory, can lead to post traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and all kinds of mental health challenges that you see in response to trauma.” This interview is in English.
Leslie Rangel, has been in the news industry for almost a decade and she’s currently a morning news anchor in Austin, Texas. Leslie began her career in market size 142 where she says things “were not always easy.” She says she often used to cope with the heaviness that comes with being in the news industry with alcohol until she began doing yoga and mindfulness practices. “It’s easy to forget that people are humans and that we are humans...instead of news robots,” says Leslie adding that “a lot of times you’re meeting people on their worst days and it’s this weird energy exchange. And are you then keeping that weird energy without really healing?” She invites other journalists to look within if we want to help improve the news industry and she leaves us with words of wisdom to “remember to say no. I was always eager to say yes,” adding that part of it was rooted in advancing her career and another part of it in a self limiting belief of “am i doing enough? I’ve gotta do more, I’ve gotta do more!” This interview is in english.
Media Healers: Lori Lizarraga, Emmy and Murrow-Award-winning journalist and TV reporter, stumbled into journalism by happy accident in college, but her passion grew when she realized how valuable journalism is within our communities. Being in the industry, she learned of the effectiveness of journalists and the role we play to hold powerful institutions and officials accountable. This includes holding news outlets accountable – something she chose to do after her 2-year contract at 9NEWS in Denver, Colorado was not renewed, making her the third Latina reporter to be let go from the station within one year. Lori advocated for the empowerment of journalists of color in the newsroom and often voiced her concerns, especially around stories of diverse, low-income, Spanish-speaking and immigrant communities. Like all reporters at 9NEWS, she was instructed to refer to undocumented immigrants as “here illegally” or “illegally in the country” — despite the use of “undocumented” as the AP Style standard in immigration coverage in the U.S. since 2013. Lori wrote about that issue, among others, in an editorial describing her experience at 9NEWS in Westword earlier this year. Tegna has since changed its immigration guidelines at its 64 television stations across the country, including 9NEWS. Lori has gone on to receive several awards for her courage and advocacy after writing the piece and is becoming a voice for #MoreRepresentationInNews. This interview is in English.
