The Tron Church is a church family meeting across three locations in Glasgow, Scotland. Our mission is to proclaim Christ here, throughout Glasgow, and to the world. We take the Bible seriously. When its message is proclaimed clearly, the voice of the living God is heard clearly today, with transforming power. That's why our priority is to open the Bible and let it speak, wherever and whenever we can. Listen in to sermons from our regular Sunday gatherings as well as discussions elaborating on the ways in which the teaching of the Bible connects to some of the big issues in our culture today.
Talking Points is back and this week Agnes, Josh, and Willie are here to discuss the issue of sinful desire on the back of Willie's sermon on James 1:12-21 from last Sunday.
James 1:15 says that, 'desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin' which might lead us to think that the desire itself is not actually sinful. However, sin is bitter from root to fruit and our desires can be sinful as well as the 'actual sin' which. Understanding this helps us to see our sin problem more clearly which in turn helps us to respond rightly in repentance and lament of our sinfulness but also in rejoicing at the greatness of the salvation which is ours in Christ.

Imran Gill is one of our overseas mission partners who works to equip and train up Christians and church leaders to reach the lost in his country. Whilst there are a number of differences between his context and ours here in Glasgow, there are also many similarities and so Imran shares some pieces of encouragement and advice as we seek to reach out to a culture where the overwhelming majority of people are unbelievers.
The Chronicles of Narnia is probably the work for which C.S. Lewis is best known, and for good reason. The seven books which make up the series are wonderful stories in their own right but also contain deep Christian themes and have a lot to teach us as Christians - adults and children alike!
In this conversation, Katie and Bob discuss some of what we can learn from these stories and Bob reflects on some of his favourite characters and moments from the books.
The Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis, is not just an enjoyable read but it also has a lot to teach us about God, the Devil, and ourselves. Despite being written many decades ago, it is still incredibly relevant as the fundamentals of human nature haven't changed.
Bob Fyall has been in Christian ministry for most of his working life and previously studied and taught English literature. There can be few bigger fans of C.S Lewis than Bob and he has an incredible wealth of knowledge on all his work. In this interview he and Katie discuss The Screwtape Letters and explore how this book can help us to understand and battle sin and temptation both individually and as a church family.

Critical Theory is a worldview which emerged from the 'Frankfurt School' and, through deliberate planning and policy, it has come to dominate thinking in much of Western society. Whilst it might seem like quite an abstract and technical philosophical concept, its influence is felt everywhere in modern life from schools to workplaces.
Sharon James is an expert in Critical Theory and has read and written extensively on the subject. In this podcast she sits down to chat with our senior pastor, William Philip, to help us to understand what Critical Theory is and how we, as the church, should respond to it.
In this week's episode of Talking Points Katie, Paul, and Willie discuss some of the key points arising from Sunday's sermons on Nehemiah 2 and on the final section of Genesis.
During the discussion, Paul mentions a Brephos podcast featuring Ross Grant. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGSlLmZR5AQ
Agnes, Willie, and Fraser discuss the sermons from Sunday on Genesis 49-50 and Nehemiah 1.
Feminism has been accepted as an undisputed force for good in our society and, in many places, also in the church. But what have been some of the damaging effects of Feminism and how should we, the church, go about heralding the better story of God's good design for men and women given to us in the Bible?
In this podcast episode, our Senior Minister, Willie Philip, interviews Sharon James to discuss these issues. Sharon is an experienced academic, author, and public speaker on these issues. She draws on her expert command of the subject as well as on years of experience of Pastoral ministry and personal family life to shed light on this difficult issue.
This podcast was recorded during Sharon's visit to The Tron Church in March 2025 and you can find other resources and recordings from her time with us at https://tron.church/critical theory.

Sharon has written many books which you can find on her website. The following are some other books - from non-Christian authors - which Sharon would recommend if you're interested in reading more in this area:

The Queering of The American Child, Logan Lancing and James Lindsay
There are lots of things which might put us off from inviting people to church but for each of these reasons we can come up with to put us off, there are even better reasons why we should! In this podcast Fraser, Katie, and Paul discuss 5 of these big reasons why we don’t invite people to church and think through some of the reasons why we shouldn’t be put off and should persevere in inviting our friends to church even when faced with discouragements along the way.

Phil Copeland is one of our ministers here at The Tron Church and in the summer he was hit with a very serious diagnosis of cancer which suddenly brought the reality of the fragility of life very close to home. In this interview, Phil shares some updates about what has happened and how treatment has been going but most importantly about how his faith and trust in God have helped and sustained him and his family through this time of illness. Whilst it has been, and continues to be, a very challenging time, Phil shares stories of various tokens of encouragement which God has given him - from the support of Church family members, to Christian medical staff who have been looking after him, and, of course, from the Word of God which gives great hope even in the face of death.
In this week's episode of Talking Points, Katie, Agnes, and Paul discuss the sermons from our Sunday services. They dwell on the goodness of God's grace and how we see that so clearly especially in contrast to the messiness of our sin; the power that God's word has to stir hearts for salvation and sanctification; and the importance of having the right priorities in order to guard against lethargy.

Screens are everywhere in our world today. It's almost impossible to avoid them. How should we as Christians apply God's wisdom to this area, particularly when thinking about our children and the effect that screens and devices has on them?
In this Talking Points Special, you'll hear Agnes and Paul discuss some of these issues together as well as hearing some clips of interviews with some of our parents here at church as they share some of their strategies and struggles in tackling this issue with their children.

The church has always faced crises throughout history and today is no different; but the way that we as the church respond to crises is vitally important. What is the right place for lamentation? When is the right time to leave a particular church presbytery or body? And how do you keep fearing God and not men in difficult times? These are some of the questions which Willie discusses with Christopher Ash as they reflect on recent and current crises in the Church of Scotland and in the Anglican church.
How do we as a church cultivate a healthy and sustainable passion for growth? In this podcast episode, Paul interviews Ray Evans to discuss this question. Ray recently retired as the senior pastor of Grace Community Church in Bedford and has decades of experience in pastoral ministry. Here he shares some of what he has learned throughout his life and ministry as well as some of the principles we can glean from the Bible's teaching on the subject of evangelism and church growth.

What is the point of Christian doctrine? Is it just the domain of bland, boring academics? Is it just a necessary evil? In this interview, Nick Tucker helpfully reminds us that the point of Christian is that we might love God and love our neighbour better. Further to that, as Nick shares from personal experience, having a good doctrine of God will help us in times of difficulty and pain.
On Talking Points this week Agnes, Josh, and Paul discuss the sermons we heard together on Sunday. They discuss how encouraging it is to be reminded of God's commitment to His covenant, even when we are wobbling in our walk with him; the goodness and comprehensiveness of the Bible's worldview; and the blessing of being a part of God's plan for bringing blessing to the world through the church.

Josh, Paul, and Phil recently travelled to Australia to attend the Reach Australia national conference. Reach Australia is a network with the vision of seeing thousands of healthy, evangelistic, multiplying churches (new plants and established churches) across Australia. Scott Sanders is the executive director and whilst at the conference, Josh, Paul, and Phil took the opportunity to record a quick conversation with Scott where he walks through Reach Australia's five key principles for church ministry and the guys discuss how these things look on the ground and think through how they can apply to our church life here at the Tron.
During the conversation, Scott references the Reach Australia framework paper which you can read here: https://tron.church/s/Reach-Australia-Framework-Paper.pdf
On Talking Points this week Katie, Edward, Paul discuss the sermons from Sunday together. In this week's episode of Talking Points Agnes, Willie, and Fraser discuss together the sermons from Psalm 40 and John 14 which we heard on Sunday. They discuss the encouragement and comfort of knowing God's forgiveness even, and especially, when we become more and more aware of our own sinfulness; the necessity of God's justice and how that helps us to understand the challenging language of imprecatory psalms; and the comfort and joy there is in knowing the Holy Spirit's wonderful ordinary work of bringing people from death to life through the preaching of the Scriptures.
If you would like to listen to the talk by Andy Saville on the Imprecatory Psalms, you can find it here: https://www.proctrust.org.uk/resources/talk/967
How do we help each other remember God’s goodness to us in the past? How do we understand the continuity of God’s unfolding revelation? What will the new creation be like? Fraser, Willie, and Andrew discuss these questionsand more as they reflect on the sermons we heard together on Sunday from Ezekiel 43-48 and Psalm 40.
Talking Points is back after a short break and this week Fraser, Edward and, Josh discuss the sermons we heard together on Romans 8 and Ezekiel 40-43. What is going on when the Lord's people gather together for church on a Sunday? Who is that gathering for? What is it for? How can we as a church family make the most of Sundays for ourselves and particularly evangelistically?
In this week's podcast we seek to address such questions with a combination of conversations between Katie, Paul, and Willie, and also some interviews with some church members speaking about their own personal experiences of coming to church and of inviting others along.
At various times in this episode we reference Paul Brennan's article Any Given Sunday. If you haven't yet read it, you can do so on our website or you can hear one of our members reading it in our podcast episode from a few weeks ago.

On Talking Points this week Katie is our host and is here with Willie and Phil to discuss the sermons we heard together on Sunday. Looking at Micaiah's example in 1 Kings 22, they discuss the necessity and challenge of continuing to speak the truth under pressure, even when greatly outnumbered and when there is no instant gratification for doing so. They also reflect on our own individual responsibility to be repentant and obedient today and every day.

In this week's episode of Talking Points, Agnes chats through Sunday's sermons with Stephen and Paul to dig into them a bit further and to draw out some particularly helpful lines of application.
Their discussion touches on the way in which we grow in holiness together as a corporate body led by our church leaders, the ways in which people find their way into full-time church ministry, and the importance of us having confidence in the sufficiency of all of Scripture as it is preached to us on Sundays.

In this week's Talking Points podcast Agnes, Willie, and Fraser discuss Sunday's sermons and reflect on some of the key takeaways from them.
From Ezekiel we heard a somber word of warning against complacency in the church in the West today, a warning we must heed and take seriously. However, whilst the warning is real we can take confidence from God's sovereignty and know that even if the church in the West will face judgment, God is still building his church the world over. Even if it seems as though, like Elijah felt in 1 Kings 19, there are next to no believers left, we can still be confident that God has not failed. In this we can find freedom to strive to be faithful in whatever God has given us to do, wherever he has placed us.

In this Talking Points special, Willie speaks with David Rowbory to talk through some of the challenges and encouragements of their work translating the Bible in Nigeria.
We can sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that the work of Bible Translation is done but around 1.5 billion people in the world don't have access to the Bible in their most familiar language. Living in a predominantly monolingual culture we can fail to appreciate and understand how important it is to be able to read God's word in a language which is familiar and appropriate.
The work that the Rowborys are doing then is really key to giving people a fuller understanding of the gospel as opposed to just a blurry outline.

Charlie grew up with an atheistic world view and whilst at school went through a difficult period where she began to question her gender. After receiving very little guidance from those around her at that time, she began to read and listen to a wider range of political thinkers with whom she started to find points of agreement. Realising that many of these thinkers were Christians, Charlie sought out more information about the Bible and eventually started coming to church.
It was whilst reading the Bible one-to-one with another church member that the Lord convicted Charlie of her sin and her need to trust in Jesus.
Listen as Charlie shares the story with Katie of how and why she came to trust in the Lord Jesus.

Now one year on from the move, David shares with Paul what have been some of the encouragements and challenges of the last year. David also reflects on the training he has received thus far and how that has prepared him for the core task of his ministry - preaching the Word of God. We live now in the third Christian millennium, and in many ways this is a great time to be a Christian: There are more people now than ever before calling on the name of the Lord, and they are living in more places of the world than ever before. But this growth isn't coming in 'the West'.
The church in the West has experienced decades of privilege and blessing and yet in this time, we haven't seen unprecedented levels of growth but rather decline. The church in the West has gone to sleep and is now feeling the effects of that. As years of blessing now appear to be coming to an end, the church is finding itself to be ill-equipped to deal with rising pressure and resultantly, numbers are falling fast.
Meanwhile, the church in Africa, and in areas of Asia is growing fast in spite of opposition from all sides. And yet, it is in these areas where the church is growing fastest that pastors have the least amount of training and churches have the least amount of material resources.
So how do we, the church, respond to this? Do we stop training our pastors and start praying that we would receive violent opposition?
Richard Pratt started Third Millennium Ministries as a response to this problem. Their mission is to provide seminary level Biblical education, for the world, for free. They're seeking to equip the church globally so that Christ's kingdom here on earth might continue to be built up and strengthened.
In this special episode of our Talking Points podcast Willie chats with Richard about these very issues. Seeking to unpick what our response as churches in the West should be and how we can raise up and train solid gospel workers both here and across the world.

On the back of this Sunday's sermons, Agnes, Paul, and Willie sit down to talk through some of the key points and think more about how they apply to our day-to-day lives. They discuss what it really means to live where Satan dwells today and how that manifests in the visible world around us. They also talk about what repentance looks like for those who might feel their, or their family's, legacy might be heading in the wrong direction and the importance of making that step of repentance today. This leads helpfully into discussion of our priorities in parenting as believers and how they are communicated to our children.

In Talking Points this week, Katie is joined by Edward and Paul to discuss the sermons which we heard together on Sunday. They spend time reflecting on the importance of the heavenly and eternal perspective which Revelation gives us, thinking through how it helps us in our day to day lives where our our eyes are so easily drawn away from our Lord. They also discuss how we can respond graciously to the slander which Revelation tells us to expect as we stand up for Biblical truth and reflect on the beauty of how Jesus responds to those who were unclean under the Levitical law.

On Sunday, we heard sermons from Josh on the big message of 1 John and from Stephen on the ritual laws of Leviticus 11. Both were full of talking points for us to continue chewing over and in this conversation we touch on just a few including how we can see and show God's love in the love we show for each other as a church family, how we go about interpreting difficult and unfamiliar passages, and how we apply the ritual laws of the Bible today.

In this week's episode of Talking Points, Josh Johnston is our host and he sits down with both Paul and Willie who were preaching on Sunday and Revelation 2 and Genesis 19 respectively. Both passages were in some ways hard passages both to preach and to hear with solemn messages of warning both for God's people and the world around us. Yet these hard messages of judgement and warning are a key part of the gospel message which we must proclaim as a church and in our personal witness to our friends and family. Since we must speak about these things, how do we go about it? How do we remain loving when doing so and how do we show and tell people of the real freedom which comes from being yoked to Christ?

In this week's episode of Talking Points, Katie, Phil, and Paul are talking through some of Sunday's big teaching points. They reflect on how helpful it is to see the big picture of Revelation with the overriding message of the book being one which brings comfort, not fear. They also dwell on how wonderful it is that we are truly friends of God and in true relationship with Him. This naturally drives us to wanting to share the gospel, and in so doing it must be the whole gospel which we share. Not merely a more palatable 'half-gospel' which is in reality no gospel at all.

In this week's Talking Points conversation Katie, Willie, and Edward are thinking through some of the key points and implications from Sunday's teaching. 1 John has consistently showed the binary nature of the gospel in very stark terms which might seem shocking, particularly to a modern audience. In reality though, for the Christian it is a great encouragement to be reminded of our certain status in Christ. In both 1 John and Genesis, we have seen the importance of obedience to the Lord and how this is a key part of what it means to be a follower of the Lord. Again, this idea of obedience and submission to authority is something at odds with our culture but something which is therefore very important to be clear on. In all of this, the key to viewing the world clearly is to be viewing the world through the lens of Scripture, rather than through the eyes of the world which lies in the power of the evil one.
All this and more is unpacked in the conversation this week and we hope it'll be an encouragement to you. If you haven't yet listened to the sermons from Sunday, you can do so on our podcast feed or you can watch the services back on our YouTube Channel.

Good Friday Sermon - 7 April 2023
Our Suffering Sovereign Saviour
Mark 15:21-39
Paul Brennan
In this week's 'Talking Points' discussion, Agnes, Josh, and Willie are talking about the sermons we heard on Sunday. They reflect on the number of historical details included in the gospel accounts which really give confidence to us as believers. They also discuss further the beautifully simple picture of the gospel which we see in the two criminals on the crosses next to Jesus before thinking through how we can helpfully direct everyday conversations towards the Bible.

The Word of the Cross1. The Triumphant Word of the Crucified Saviour (Luke 23:26-56)

This week's podcast, rather than being a discussion of the sermons from Sunday, is a discussion on the booklet 'Gnosticism' by Nick Needham which has been our Big Read as a church this term. The booklet is published by the Christian Institute and can be found in full on their website. Nick helpfully sets out the way in which much of our present culture's thinking on issues of sex and gender has its roots in the ancient heresy of Gnosticism.
In their discussion, Agnes, Phil, and Willie unpack some of these issues further in order to help us as Christians be better equipped to have informed conversations on such sensitive and difficult topics. At a number of points in the discussion they reference Nancy Pearcey's book 'Love Thy Body' which covers the same topic but in greater depth. The book is available to buy here.
This week Katie, Paul, and Josh are here to chew over some of the key points from Sunday's sermons. This week, Edward Lobb was preaching on Titus 2 and Josh was preaching on 1 John 2:28-3:12. These sermons are available to listen to here on our podcast or you can watch them again on our YouTube channel.
This discussion touches on the reassurance we saw in 1 John that we are children of God now and yet we are not yet all that we will be as this will be made more clear and visible in the new creation. They also touch on how we might think through engaging with those who have departed from orthodox faith as taught by the Apostles in a gracious and humble manner. Finally, they reflect on the importance of learning from one another as a church family.

Genesis: The Beginning of the Christian Faith
William Philip
In this week's Talking Points Podcast Paul is our host and is joined by William Philip and, for the first time, Edward Lobb. They discuss the importance of correcting people with the truth of God's word but also explore the difficulties of doing this in a "post-truth" society. They also draw on their experience in ministry to explore the subject of managing the household of God as being a key part of the Christian Leader's role and talk through the ways in which the decisions we all make - big and small - will have an impact on our lives.
This discussion comes on the back of the teaching we all heard together on Sunday and you can find the sermons right here on our podcast feed. You may find it helpful to listen to them before returning to listen to this conversation.

Josh is our host this week and he sits down with Willie and Katie to talk through some of the big points from Sunday's teaching. They touch on the need for us all, but perhaps especially preachers, to take God's word seriously; the comfort that comes from knowing that God is a God who works and walks with stumblers like Abraham; and also think about what it looks like for us to trust God in face of famines of various kind.

1 Kings 13:1-34
Katie sits down with Willie and Phil to talk through some standout points from this week's sermons. Where do we see twisting of scripture like Jeroboam's false religion in today's society? What's it like preaching hard messages and how do we, as congregation members, receive them with grace when they touch a nerve? and what is the true nature of spiritual blessing? This week's discussion touches on these big issues and more.

Agnes, Paul, and Josh sit down together to reflect on some of the key points from the teaching we heard on Sunday. This week, they discuss the importance of recognising both God's sovereignty and our own obedience, discussing how this gives us freedom to live faithful lives trusting that God is in control but also seeing that our actions are important and have value. They also spend some time thinking about the new creation and the goodness of that which we look forward to.

Genesis: The Beginning and End of the World As We Know It
Preaching - William Philip
In this week's episode of Talking Points Katie, Willie, and Phil sit down to talk through some key points arising from the teaching we heard together on Sunday.
On the back of Paul's sermon on the issue of Conflict from the book of Proverbs, they discuss how we as Christians can, and should, respond with grace to conflict in our lives both within the household of faith and with other friends and family members. When reflecting on Sunday morning's sermon on Genesis 10 and 11, the discussion also explores the realistic way in which the Bible explains the world and how it does so not in a hopeless, nihilistic way but in a supremely positive way with an answer of solid hope. This is the compelling hope which we seek to reach out with as believers.
If you haven't yet listened to the sermons from Sunday, you can find them here on our podcast feed and you may find it helpful to listen to them first before returning to this episode.
If you have any questions about what was discussed or about anything else which came up in the sermons this week please send them to podcast@tron.church and we will do our best to respond.

On the back of Paul's sermon on Politics from Sunday we're devoting this episode of our Talking Points series to the subject. Agnes, Willie, and Paul pick up on some of the key issues arising from Paul's sermon from Proverbs on Sunday, discussing how human authorities are fundamentally a good gift from God but also exploring how we should respond to them when things go wrong and human authorities overreach.
The Bible certainly calls Christians to be submissive and respectful to authorities but this is not an absolute unquestioning submission in all circumstances as is evident from many examples throughout Scripture of God's people not obeying human authorities when they see them and their actions or decrees come into conflict with what God has commanded.
The conversation delves into some of the issues to consider in determining when to submit and when not to as well as considering the issue of children and how we might prepare them well for life as a Christian in a society increasingly more hostile to God and His word.
