Matt is left 'holding the baby' in this episode as Pete decides there's something far better on the TV than entertaining the great unwashed masses of the FOSS community. Given Matt's chronic monophobia, as reported in the Lower Piddle Gazette last Tuesday, Les Pounder AKA biglesp and Jon Spriggs AKA jontheniceguy step in for a threesome with Matt.
We hear how Pete was let down by Jon's personal URL shortening service disappearing up its own jaxy, which in turn broke just about every link on the show's website. As you would expect from a typical FOSS member, it's all someone else's fault, and anyway, "I didn't think he would use it here there and everywhere."
Room x1101 makes a comeback with Flash being the target of Matt's venom, but Flash finds an unlikely ally in jontheniceguy! Les finally reveals the only reason he came on the show was to pimp Ucubed and bleats on and on about it.

The gruesome twosome is back together again as Pete rejoins the show. The team hold an inquest on the last episode and how Matt did a grand job sticking his finger in even though it was leaking out in places. Ubuntu's 12.04 release gets talked about, but the guys are less than impressed not only with the actual release but the Ubuntu site falling over. Matt announces his intention to rekindle meetings for GLLUG (Greater London Lug) and talks about some of the issues of setting it up.
Pete tells us about the new ArchBang project leader in the section Archie (Woof, woof), but the guys are more impressed that their good friend Phil Newbourgh AKA Corenominal gets a mention. Room x1101 gets another outing with the new G+ UI on offer for oblivion. As usual, the team spend far too long on the feedback, but hey, it is our favourite part.

This episode was nearly called "Two Sweaty Men II" as it was a very hot Sunday for a change. Pete and Matt seemed to struggle on this one a bit, although, as per usual with tdtrs, the end result is far better than the team realised while recording it. Pete starts out by bitching about his stupid idea to upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04; even though he swore blind in episode 28, he never would and the unusable pile of lard he ended up with!
Matt is totally mystified as to why Pete has put a story about Kodak's reactor into the warming-up slot and then sucker punches him when he gets all excited about O.A.D. with an amazing display of disinterest. Good friend of the show, x1101, helps us bring back "I hate your blog", and "Room x1101" gets an outing, too, with Matt wanting to do away with Kickstarter with things getting slightly heated.
The team are dumbfounded at the lack of feedback, but quality over quantity prevails as this episode's postbag produces probably the most interesting part of the show. Matt and Pete discuss the deletion of the tdtrs Wikipedia page, and Pete flies off into a rage, and a reader's email gives us this show's title.

It's a huge show this episode, Matt returns from France and it seems to have been released on the wrong week? The guys explain it's all to do with RatholeRadio and how they hope it will bring them more listeners. The random warming up is just huge, and Pete continues his mission to annoy as many nations as possible, including the Germans and moans about podcasts nicking ideas from #tdtrs
The main section is Fedora 17; Pete tells us about the hoops he had to jump through and the stupid n00b thing he did, following a guide on how to make Fedora boot faster. As usual, the feedback section of the show is packed full of insults, rudeness and the breaking of several human rights laws.
Fox News relates Flame malware to Angry Bird because they're written in the same programming language.

"Pride comes before a fall", and the guys certainly fall on their faces with this episode. After boasting about improved sound quality, Matt's machine decided to pull the rug out from underneath the show during this recording by locking up. Luckily Matt had a secondary recording device, but listeners will notice the differences.
Matt tells us about podcrawl which is basically podcasters dragging their alcohol-soaked carcasses around London, and Pete tells us about trying to pick a fight with an Olympic torch bearer. Finally, Archie (Woof Woof) has something to offer, and Room x1101 is back with Open Office (The mercy killing) on trial for its life. The main topic is the EFF initiative on software patents. And it's another heated debate that nearly leaves our heroes sulking in their respective corners. As usual, the feedback is packed full of hysterics and insults.

Don't blame us for the length of the show; it's all your fault with your ranting feedback emails.
The team take nearly an hour, yes an hour, to wade through the torrent of bricks, bottles and one or two unmentionables in response to episode 32. Matt corrects the team, although it's not really a correction, about the audio problems on the last show which makes Pete throw his rattle out the pram.
We hear about Ouya, the new Android console, and if you can pronounce the name, you're a better man than us, Gunga Din. The team then discuss the implications of the new potential 5-year prison sentence for not revealing your encryption key. Not forgetting the opensource man. The guys tell us about the demise of Digg and then indulge in the game of "I'm more famous than you." by recalling who they have been published by. "Hang on ', published' does that mean I get a doctorate?" We also hear about the Cisco firmware gaff.
Pete actually puts something in Archie (Woof woof) and tells us about the Arm on Gumstix project. And "I hate your blog" makes a long overdue return with a shocking outcome that leaves us all on a cliffhanger ending.
Finally, we move into the feedback that takes up almost 50% of the show, don't blame us put a contract out on the authors of the feedback! 😛

You'll be pleased to know it's a bit of a shorter show this episode, mainly because we couldn't be bothered to read out some of the feedback. Matt tells us about his Ubuntu install, "To 64 or not to 64, that is the question?" and we have a good laugh at the Skype install ", Why are you pulling in 32Bit stuff?" and Matt's love of his new system.
Contrary to popular belief, Matt does most of the talking on the random warming-up section, mainly because the only bit Pete put in was about boobs. However, Pete 'goes off on one' during Archie (Woof woof) and is clearly bitter about the whole experience.

And the gruesome twosome is back on the bus after the traditional OggCamp live show that you all enjoyed in the last episode. Having recharged their OpenSource freedom-loving batteries, the dynamic duo are all set to poke fun at the community, each other and especially that bloke at number 37 with burnt-out Mondeo on his drive. Matt kicks off the random warming-up section by telling Pete that Damn Small Linux is back; yes, we know this news is a bit out of date, but we don't care. The team then enthuse about Bedrock Linux, which supposedly can install any package from any repository and will then run the installed application.
We know we've discussed it before, we actually heard it first on The Skeprechauns, but we wanted to talk again about the Sapphire HDD, and it's our show, so tough luck. Matt then makes Pete's day by telling him Diaspora runs out of money which is not funny at all (It is really.) Finally, the lads show their true colours by showing no sympathy whatsoever for the so-called GPL violation, or is it? (If you don't laugh during this section, you need to visit the hospital a.s.a.p. and have a 'sense of humour transplant'.

Be warned; the sound quality is rubbish again; Pete stupidly listened to the moans about 'clipping' and thought it would be a good idea to sit in the next county to where his microphone is located, and to add insult to injury, his mic did everything in its power to compensate for the distance in a vain attempt to amplify the noise but only succeeded in adding nice 'booms' here and there.
Cars, cars, bloody cars. Pete's motor breaks down in the middle of nowhere, so the team recorded this episode on Tuesday night, which felt really strange; the guys consider if it's really worth writing show notes as nobody reads them. Matt tells us how AMD and Intel announce new generation CPU's that supposedly do not support Linux, but the team think it's just a clever marketing ploy. Pete starts off telling us about Red Hat suing Twin Peaks, but the conversation veers off in a whole different direction with some outrageous opinions. Matt saves the day by changing the subject to jquery, and dropping the GPL licence, but then the guys get all sentimental with a story about Sourceforge.

The team ponder as to why nobody complains about the default music management system. The lads then have a damn good laugh at the iO6 maps fail and the genius at the train station with the funny message. And finally, in this section, Matt and Pete tell wiki's but especially Ubuntu wiki "You're doing it wrong"

"Has the fun gone out of Linux?" is the question keeping Pete awake at night, but Matt has a cunning plan to spice things up through the wee small hours. Federation! The guys talk about Modern Web Documentation and the union of Google, W3C and OMG! Microsoft!
Matt tells us all about the KDE Manifesto, and Pete just can't help using it to berate a certain community with all the subtlety of a 6lb lump hammer. While still in a spud-kicking mood, the team discuss Ubuntu's new "GIVE ME SOME MONEY!" page, which gets the usually mild-mannered Matt's hackles up. Not content with kicking Canonical all around the garden, the boys go for the jugular over the whole Amazon Lense and EU License requirements. "Ermm? Excuse me, did you know this is possibly illegal?" As a closing afterthought, Matt brings up Microsoft's surface and the fact it would be cheaper to buy a laptop.
Archie (Woof woof) Not that it's breaking news, but we hear how systemd is now default on all new installs, but it's still an opportunity to have a dig at the now famous 13-step install, or is it 13?

So Shane was hijacked from his peace and quiet and forced to come on the show. Shane's sound quality is not the best, he was basically just using his laptop's internal microphone, but we think it's not that bad, actually. As you'd expect, it's a bit of a longer show, but then the team did have three days of alcohol-sodden events to get through.
Once again, we would like to thank Shane and apologise for dragging him away from the toe jam-picking session he had planned for the evening. "Did you ever pick your feet in Poughkeepsie?" (Look it up if you don't know)

Our CO-host for this episode is Alister Munro, AKA b1ackc0w and founder of the satirical Blog wtflinux that's WTF Linux to anyone who hasn't worked it out yet. Not content with being given the chance to repeatedly "Say my name, say my name" on tdtrs, Alister decided to bring his annoying little friend along to the show! Only through painstaking editing was the annoying little runt removed from practically the entire shows recording.
It's a big show, and we start off with an interesting movie, Edward penis hands. Recommended by The Skeprechauns, which leads Pete to ask the question, "What was your first porn film?" As most of you will know, the Python name-stealing dispute has been resolved, but we thought we would give some closure on our previous discussion on EP48.
The Peoples Republic of China has gotten into bed with Canonical and announced that Ubuntu will be the official operating system for their special brand of communism.

A group of disgruntled Spaniards have started proceedings against Microsoft over the secure boot issue and are hoping the European court will take up their case. But the big news for Matt is that identi.ca is no longer accepting registrations; the team discuss, "Why doesn't Evan just shut it down and put it out of its misery?"
Our CO-Host asks if anyone has tried LibreOffice 4.0 yet. Neither Matt nor Pete has, but we talk about it anyway, well why break a habit of a lifetime and speak about things we actually do know something about? Finally, after a couple of attempts, Pete gets the chance to talk about the day the Internet slowed down and why he is not on the side of the Anti Spam organisation.

In typical English style, the team kick off this episode by discussing the cold and grey weather outside. Yet again, the boys are smug that there are no corrections from the last episode.
We kick off by discussing Microsoft Open Technologies Inc and their first year of contributing to free software. The guys struggle to find anything tangible that Microsoft has actually done, but Pete lays his cards on the table and begs Microsoft actually to do something. We also hear how an anonymous MS developer has written a pretty revealing insight into why the development of their kernel is so slow, and Matt tries to discuss the "Microsoft's most profitable OS that's not even theirs." Android patents deal, but Pete says he's heard it all before and can't be bothered with it.
"Pirating is theft, you swine," Matt tells us about an interesting survey that maintains that for 10% of pirated material, there is a 300% increase in legitimate purchases. The guys discuss the very fact that the Internet provides the ability to view what you want when you want and that pirating, in a lot of cases, can lead to people purchasing the DVD, books or merchandise for that downloaded show.
Pete proves that he is a moron and can't even read by introducing this item as co-funding; Matt tries to tell the old fart, "you need to put your glasses on, Pete, there's an r in there!" this item is in fact about a crowdfunding project on Indiegogo for purchasing a whole bunch of wiki-readers to supply to, hopefully, new world students.

Pete couldn't find anything much to put into this section; therefore, Matt comes to the rescue by talking about his Manjaro install.

As you can imagine, Pete is in his element when Matt starts to discuss the proposal for Ubuntu to create their own package management environment "one more step to my prediction", screams Pete. Matt desperately tries to point out that yet again this is just a proposal, but Pete suggests that maybe he should take out yet another Ladbrokes bet. The boys fall about with laughter at the revelation that Ubuntu's servers are running a version of Apache that is 12 months out of date! Your data is safe with us.

Well, here it is, folks, the fabled episode 55; after a first attempt to record the show and the imbecile Pete not actually recording two hours of material, the team had to sit down and record it all over again, so you'd better enjoy it!
Matt tells us all about the PS4 and how it runs FreeBSD, which gives Pete a chance to tell us his famous BSD joke. Next up, the team discuss proper programming for schoolkids and how currently, there is little scope for exposure in most schools to anything other than the standard Microsoft office applications.
How often do you see the message "This material is not available in your country"? An ISP in New Zealand is offering a service called 'global mode', which enables users to view location-restricted material. "Where's my shortcut gone?" Red Hat has announced that it will be using the Gnome Shell classic for its RHEL7 release.
For our main topic, Matt tells us how WC3 seems to think that DRM is good for the web, which ends up getting Pete's feathers slightly ruffled.
Kevin grenade sent us a feedback e-mail about some software he is developing and the issues he is having with the associated Kickstarter project which leads to Pete completely flipping his lid and offering to take on all-comers.

Clearly, Microsoft listens to the show as they waited for the day after we recorded EP58 to announce the retirement of Steve Ballmer. Staying with the MS theme for a moment, we discuss the proposed purchase of NOKIA and the fact that dear old Steve looks totally shagged out.
Yet another tiny PC hits the market, and the guys believe the best place for one of these is under the TV. "Have a break, have a KITKAT" yep, Android announces its next release will be named after the favourite chocolate bar.
Who's that at the backdoor? It will come as no surprise to learn Windows 8 apparently has a back door capability according to the German government, who are saying "Nein!" to what has been termed the 'Sales Challenged' operating system.
So you like to do your own mashups of songs on Spotify, do you? Well, maybe not for much longer, as The Ministry of Sound threatens to sue because of naughty users building playlists not in the order set out on the original CDs.
During the feedback, we talk about the breaking news of the Galaxy Watch. We could have edited it to the warming-up section but left it where it is, as we're too lazy to do a professional job.

Gnome finally has a 'No frills' ability, according to Matt, as the team discuss the virtues of fancy tricks over good old comfort zones. Dell launches an Ubuntu laptop on their XPS range, but Pete is less than impressed given Dell's bed-hopping when it comes to operating systems.
We seem to be breaking the supposed cardinal rule of podcasting and talking a hell of a lot about other shows as Matt tells us all about Joe Ressington's new show Linux Luddites. Everyone loves Cyanogen? Clearly, Google doesn't, as they demanded the installer for Cyanogen is removed from the play store, or they'll remove it for them! Shades of Microsoft's "There should only be one OS on computers." Springs to mind.
Creative Commons releases 4.0 of its license. Pete enthuses to Matt at some of the changes while Matt seems to have an air of "Meh" about him.

Yes, they're back! Just when you thought you'd been punished enough, Pete and Matt have crashed back onto the airwaves with more mirth and mayhem. In keeping with the #tdtrs tradition, Pete's sound quality is not very good. This is because, over Christmas, he made the move to be totally Linux based at home and yet failed to thoroughly test his recording ability. The reason for the distortion is the muppet had the recording input level way too high.
Did you have a good Christmas? We did. The boys waffle on a bit about what they got and did, and Pete finds out that, in fact, Matt was the secret Santa and vows to get him back. For our first awesome story, Matt tells Pete all about Firefox entering into a partnership with Panasonic to bring its OS to TV's. Wait, an Open Source company putting their OS on a TV? Is there some vague memory of someone else saying they'd do that? Any hint of Pete being sarcastic throughout this piece is purely a figment of your imagination.
"That's a sexy blue router you've got there?" Matt tells Pete all about the Linksys WRT1900AC, which is the resurrected WRT54G with upgraded hardware and OpenWRT firmware so that all you naughty geeks can hack away to your heart's content. Matt lets Pete enthuse about the latest news that Red Hat has taken CentOS under its wing, as Pete prefers to see it as rather than a purchase. Is the business community seeing the CEO vacancy at Microsoft as a poisoned chalice? Matt and Pete poke fun at Steve Ballmer, and the fact he's lost a lot of weight yet is still wearing the clothes he had last year.
The MPAA joins W3C! This is potentially a black day? Here's an organisation that has spent its time enforcing DRM and accusing millions of piracy of joining forces with was, up until now, one of its arch-enemies. Does Pete have a point when he says, "The best way to destroy something is from within"?
So we, or if you prefer, Pete, failed miserably with his Indiegogo campaign to get him to FOSDEM. We would like to thank each and every one of you for your support and interest. For those of you who took the "I was insulted by Pete" perk, he says he may try to still insult you as a sort of thank-you but no promises.

Yep, the boys talk about the new Ubuntu Orange box but is it Ubuntu's? After clawing over the specifications, Pete and Matt are not impressed with the costs or, for that matter, the supposed usage.

Just when you thought it was safe to start listening to podcasts again, Pete and Matt burst back onto the Interwebs with more mirth, insults, mayhem and just a hint of racism or as Pete likes to call it "Nationality stereotyping". Yes, folks, it's another episode where Matt has to break out the wet wipes as the conversations have a terrible toll on his windage.
First up, Matt gives Pete a shoeing over his disgraceful lack of abiding by the Creative Commons code of conduct with regards to the bumper music for EP77. So we start off talking about the EFF Open Router, which is nice and cheap and as the title says, 'Open,' so you can tinker away till your heart's content. "You dead yet?" Pete tells us all about Endings, a Yahoo Japan service that will snuff out all your web stuff and tell your friends you've kicked the bucket.
Microsoft redundancies. 18,000 people lose their job all of them, mostly from Nokia. But what's this? 5,000 was, in fact, Microsoft employees? Was this a way for MS to quietly shed some staff without affecting their share price too much? So the UK government is to adopt Open Standards for all of its documentation; however, Matt thinks it's a hollow victory and ponders whether the Microsoft support contract is up for renewal. One Windows for all. Yes, Microsoft is actively pursuing a unified desktop experience across multiple devices. Hang on? Someone else thinks they can do that? Pete finally solves this problem by working out that once we all have a wristwatch device that does everything, we will also have that elusive convergence.
GOG or to you and me, Good Old Games is releasing a new (Or should that be old?) slew of games. The only trouble is by the time you'll hear this; the offer will be over! Oops. So, according to Matt, there's a new incentive out there that even Pete 'might' be able to contribute to. AppStream is an attempt to get descriptions written for cross-platform applications using your Fedora account and GitHub. It's all thought out pretty well, you'll be assigned a couple of apps, given a timeslot to get your write-up done, and in return, you'll get accreditation on the app AND, wait for it, a nice shiny Fedora badge. (But not one you can pin on your chest, we think?)

Pete opens the show by telling Matt how he was propositioned on G+ after receiving a video call on his phone. "What's in a name?" XMBC announce they are changing their name to Kodi even though they don't own the domain name or Twitter account; great move by the marketing department. Apparently, it's all to do with not wanting to have the Xbox element anymore. Who cares?
Facebook maps anyone? Facebook, it would seem, is looking to employ a developer to develop its own OS and is seeking an individual with the skills of Linus Torvalds. The team asks where this is going and if is this likely to become an alternative to Google's services only on a much smaller scale. Microsoft has so much money it can afford to lose Billions! Convinced that the MS Surface will be a success if they lose enough money over it, the question is, after losing $1.73 Billion so far, is the Surface the new Zune?
The City of London cops swoops on the evil proxy provider offering illicit connections to 36 banned websites. The question is still, "What crime has been committed?" Have you heard of photopedia? Because we haven't? The guys, after looking on the Interwebs, lament the loss of a Creative Commons Licensed service providing some quality stock photos and ask the question, "Why couldn't they sell them?"

At the opening of the show, Pete discovers he needs to learn every soap opera in the world as he tells Matt how work has been like an episode of Emmerdale, and we also discover he has a 'thing' for girls in white stilettos! Matt tells us about the personal slaves he will have on his holiday, and Pete rages with jealousy.
Microsoft is considering changing the name of IE in the hope of being a kind of 'born again' browser. "Update Tuesday killed my machine." Microsoft released a windows 8 update that blue screens hundreds of machines. "Bye-bye Stevie, Bye bye", Steve Balmer finally bows out. Are you being scammed on Microsoft's app store? Pete doesn't seem to think so.
Is Munich about to move back to Microsoft? But with the announcement that Microsoft is to open an office in Munich, Pete wonders if he smells a rat. In the same vein, we hear about how Microsoft is lobbying the Chilean government not to use open source. Clearly, there has been very little Linux news as the systemd argument erupts again. Oh, and by the way, Linux has turned 23.

Somehow we open the show with a party political broadcast with Pete begging people to take UKIP seriously and realise the threat they pose. Apple is making sure you only run their approved hardware by disabling TRIM on 3rd party SSD, but Pete couldn't care less as he doesn't use their isolationist software.
Matt tells us how a 5-year-old has passed Microsoft's MCP exam, and we mull over whether the exam is too easy, the lad was coached till the answers were burnt on his brain, or maybe he's just a clever bugger.
Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll have heard about the first crowd-funded Open Source Tablet. Matt is not overly impressed and says that the hardware will be out of date by the time you get your grubby hands on one. Pete meanwhile tries to impress Matt with the comparison chart.
Mozilla switched to Yahoo for default search in the US, duckduckgo search option and has 90% funding for last year from Google but does anyone really care what search engine Mozilla uses?

So before we get started, sadly, this episode effectively died after about twenty minutes; having said that, we have managed to put an episode together with the help of some corn plasters, super glue and a box of staples.
The only news story you'll hear the team discuss is the BBC dropping WMA due to licensing costs and switching to more open MPEG-DASH.
We then went on to discuss Lenovo making your newly purchased equipment vulnerable with 'superfish' the discussion moved on to the NoSQL injection vulnerability of 40,000 MongoDB databases. Linus announces Linux 4.0. This was a really good discussion, honestly. 😃
We save the best till last. The headline was that Mark Shuttleworth admitted Unity was a mistake, but after some discussion, we admit that's not really what he was saying.

Now, this is possibly the biggest shame of the whole show; if only you could have heard Pete tearing Matt a new arsehole during this section for saying that he had no right to claim any kudos seeing as he hadn't attended much lately. Anyway, the great news is the GLA (Greater London Authority) has granted Makerspace £20,000.00!

Yes, we're back! Have we ever been away? According to Matt, who finally accepts full responsibility for the show being off the air, it has been fourteen months since the last release. The management of #tdtrs would like to apologise to the community, given there's nothing else out there worth listening to. 😃
So as you'd expect, we kick off with what we've both been doing, how Pete is now able to take up one seat on an aeroplane rather than the three he used to need. Matt tells us how his social life has "Really taken off" since he's stopped rushing home to record.
You thought OggCamp was no more? Well, apparently not. A secret team has been working away in some darkened shed, possibly in Surrey? And the rumours are that 2017 could see the return of the much-loved Linux Community event. We discuss potential locations, Pete insults the Scots, and Matt prays to the rain gods that camping is on the cards while the world celebrates that Pete might not attend. Gasp!
Never mind the "Year of the Linux desktop", Matt definitely thinks it's the year of Linux gaming support. We talk about Steam and the games we've purchased from there. Matt's favourite Humble Bundle while Pete moans that 0.a.d. is still Alpha.
This episode, as you'd expect, hasn't the best audio quality. After spending time setting everything up, and checking sound quality, at the end of the recording session, Pete discovered he'd not plugged in the USB from his mixer! #facepalm luckily, his webcam had picked up his voice. Still, more importantly, a second tier of redundancy was built in with the implementation of Skype Call Recorder so Pete's voice is from the Skype call while the richer sound of Matt is from his local recording.

Five months? FIVE MONTHS? has it really been five months? Oh well, the show is back with a vengeance as Pete and Matt, who's clearly had one port too many, talk about why they've been away, what they have been doing and generally spend most of the show winging it.

We actually have some feedback, true it's a few months out of date but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

Clearly being away proves too much as the show winds down to both Matt and Pete losing the plot (As per usual).

Microsoft Open Sources .NET but the License looks either a bit dodgy or not worth the paper it's printed on?
So it's not very Linuxy but Pete is really taken with Detroit Soup a movement that awards Micro grants to creative projects. People gather and pay a minimum $5.00 entrance fee (You can pay more if you like.) hopefuls give a presentation as to why they should get the micro grant and you get some food while listening. At the end you all vote on who should get the money in the bucket. Simple.
