When a couple decides that one member or both want to leave the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, there is a high probability that the relationship will not survive. I saw my own marriage dissolve after leaving the LDS faith. Meet Parley and Erica and their relationship that was actually strengthened by leaving the faith. We discuss their leaving of the religion, the impacts on their relationship, family, mental health, and a rediscovery of spirituality. They share advice on couples that decide to stay or leave. Follow Erica on instagram @soul_full_connections.

In this episode, we discuss our trip to Spain, what we saw, and what we learned about each other. We learned how to be a better team by becoming very aware of our strengths and weaknesses. This trip invigorated us as a couple. We attended a family wedding and it gave us some ideas for our own ;)

On today's episode, I introduce you to Madilynn. We discuss what it has taken for her to be in a healthy relationship.
We also discuss Rituals of Connection, a Gottman Institute principle for successful relationships. Rituals of Connection are ways that you formally and informally connect with your significant other to deepen your connection on a regular basis. Implementing these builds intimacy in your relationship, contributing to a healthy and happy life!

In this episode, Sarah shares what she has been up to. She has been following her creative passions, working on healing herself, and then improving her relationship to Tony. Stay tune to the end of the episode for some exciting news and a way to engage with us going forward!
Tony has been up to some cool things in the last month that we have been off from the show. He took a small leave from work to be able to focus on his comedy and self development. He shares his lessons including increased self confidence through pushing his comfort zone.
We are going to be taking a month off while we focus on some of our goals. If you have liked our podcast, please share it with a friend! If you don't like our podcast, make sure to send us a DM to let us know how we can improve! LOL jk jk We will be back July 6 with a new episode.
In this episode, we continue the conversation around the Harvey Institute's Six Principles of Sexual Health. The last three principles are: shared values, protection from unwanted STIs, HIV, and pregnancy, and pleasure. We discuss concepts and share some sexy stories. Pleasure is definitely one of our favorite concepts!
On today's episode, we get flirty while reviewing the first three of six principles of sexual health. These are consent, non-exploitation, and honesty. These principles encourage healthy sexual habits between partners. We have fun talking about these practices that lead to a more satisfying and fulfilling sex life. These apply to people who are single and in relationships.
There are many stories of people leaving the LDS church and how this faith impacted their lives in a negative way. Here is part of our story and the impacts that leaving this religion has on our our relationship today. We both grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints AKA Mormon religion. Sarah has been out of the LDS faith for 10 years and Tony has been out for 8 years. Despite being out of the religion for many years, we have religious programming that brings us shame and anger today. We discuss marriage, divorce, sexual shame, and the cost of leaving a purity culture.
We have a cycle that is degrading the quality of our relationship. Sarah has anger and resentment that feeds Tony's avoidance and secrecy, which then feeds the cycle over again. We are very vulnerable with you in this episode about how we are struggling, where it comes from, and what we are going to be doing about it. Thanks for listening.
Here are more of the details on why Tony is moving out. We reached a breaking point when something happened. We aren't ready to go into the details but feel free to pressure us into telling you! Relationships are hard but we are willing to be creative in our solutions to keep the relationship going. Tony is going to work on being more independent. I am working on my PTSD and physical health. We are both working on being less codependent and having better boundaries. Thanks for joining!
Today's episode is going to be a short one. We will be back in two weeks with a full length episode. We have made the decision that Tony will be moving out. We are not breaking up. But we want to focus on bettering ourselves and strengthening our boundaries. Relationships are hard work. While we are trying to better ourselves, we decided that it would be best for us to have some space. We aren't giving up on each other. But it is a time of focus for us both.
In this episode, we talk through a conflict, get into a little more conflict, and then resolve the conflict. Relationships are work! But we are willing to show up and do it. Listen to us work through by listening, acknowledging, and apologizing. We get through our conflict by talking and texting as appropriate.
We discuss about Gottman's four horsemen of relationships and our differing conflict styles.
On today's episode, we explain Family Night, a special night of the week that we set aside to reconnect, spend some time focused on each other and our needs, and a "romantic reset button" to make the rest of the week go by a little easier. We had a lot of fun making this episode and we hope you enjoy it too!
On today’s episode we share one of the biggest fights we’ve had as a couple, how we were able to overcome it, and come closer together. We talk about what led up to the fight, what actually happened, how we felt, and what we did afterwards. We were vulnerable and raw with each other, and you. Trigger warning: physical violence is discussed.
We are constantly working on being a healthier and happier couple. We do this by being equal partners. We share cleaning. Sarah Ruth does more of the cooking but Tony pays for more of the groceries. We regularly negotiate and communicate to make sure both of our needs are met. We are in therapy so that we can work to improve our relationship.
In this episode, we discuss how we met, where we are now, and why we want to make this podcast. We met in the summer of COVID 2020 through the Bumble app. We both didn't expect this relationship to become what it did, but here we are thriving. We are figuring out how to be a couple in a modern relationship.
Here is a little teaser for our first episode that we will be dropping on Thursday, January 5 at 8 am MT.
This is Tony and Sarah Ruth. We will be coming to your ears every other Thursday starting on January 5, 2023. We are going to be discussing our modern relationship and how we work to figure it out together. Subscribe now to stay current with us. Catch you next year!
