Today we read Ephesians 1:15-23 and discuss the prayer of Paul for the church at Ephesus. We look at the elements of his prayer and how we can find encouragement for ourselves and for those we praye for in his words.

Today we read Ephesians 1:11-14 in the ESV translation. We discuss the concept of our salvation as an inheritance from God and the gift of the Holy Spirit as our guarantee of that inheritance. Today we look at the Hebrew word "hesed" which is used repeatedly in te Old Testament to describe God's enduring, generous, loyal love. We read Psalm 136 which repeats the phrase "His love endures forever." We discuss how God demonstrates hesed to his people.

The Psalms: Lord of All Creation.
Today we read Psalm 104 and discuss the themes as we read. The Psalmist lays out examples of how God created the world and placed things so that they would be sustained. We parallel this thought of God providing for all of his creation with Jesus' words in Matthew 6:25-33.

Today we read Psalm 92:1-5. We talk about the commands to sing throughout the Bible. We discuss scientific discoveries about the benefits of singing. Then we list off the many spiritual benefits of singing together as God's people. Sing!

The Psalms: My Shepherd.
Today we look at Psalm 23 and John 10 and celebrate that we have a God and Savior who is our Shepherd who leads us through hard times. Pauline also shares her new song, "Come to My Jesus."

Our scripture reading today is found in Isaiah 55:10-11. Today I tell about a road trip we took in 2009 in which I tried to follow a tennis match through someone else's description over the phone. We discuss the importance of reading God's Word and experiencing His presence firsthand.

Today we discuss road trips and the exciting new things we see. We look at our tendency to quickly go from wonder and joy of new experiences to complacency. Our scripture reading is excerpts taken from the prayer of Moses, Miriam, and the Israelites once they had crossed the Red Sea. But 3 days later we find the Israelites already complaining in the dessert. We have a choice to make, live in the wonder and joy of what God has done for us or grumble and complain that things aren't perfect in life.

Today we look at our need for water, both physically and spiritually. We look at the role of the Spirit of God who makes streams of living water flow in us to satisfy our spiritual needs. Our scripture reading is found in John 7:37-39.

Today we look at Hebrews 11:1-3 and discuss the faith chapter and what such a chapter might look like in our own lives. We wrap up with Hebrews 12:1-4 and look for encouragement to continue living by faith.

Today we consider our freedom in Christ as we look at Galatians 5:1,13. Pauline shares with you a journal entry she had written one morning at her favorite breakfast spot in which she contemplated the ending of the movie Shenandoah in which a young slave is set free.

Today we read about the women discovering the empty tomb of Jesus as we discuss Luke 24:1-12.
Day 34 on The Road to Life.
Today we read Luke 23:55-56 and Matthew 27:62-66. We see how the women who followed Jesus and the religious leaders prepare to pass the Sabbath day while everyone waits.
Day 33 on The Road to Life.
Today we read about Jesus' burial in a borrowed tomb. As we read John 19:38-42, we learn about the two men who were willing to put their lives on the line to give Jesus a proper burial.
Day 32 on The Road to Life.
Today we read the final words of Jesus on the cross just before he dies. As we read Luke 23:44-49, we learn that the temple veil was torn in two from top to bottom, opening the way for all to approach God because of Jesus' sacrifice.
Day 31 on The Road to Life.
Today we hear more of Jesus' final words from the cross. As we read John 19:28-30, we hear Jesus declare, "It is finished."
Day 30 on The Road to Life.
Today we hear Jesus cry out some of his final words from the cross as we read Mark15:33-38. We also look at Psalm 22 and the prophecies of the Messiah found in it about the crucifixion.

Today we read John 19:25-27 as Jesus gives the care of his mother over to one of the disciples.
Day 28 on The Road to Life.
Today we read Luke 23:38-43. Jesus has been hung on the cross between two criminals and he has an interesting conversation with them.

Today we read about Jesus being hung on the cross. As we read Luke 23:26-37, we hear Jesus utter his first words from the cross, "Father, forgive them for they don't know what they are doing."
Day 26 on The Road to Life.
Today we read Matthew 27:27-31. The Roman guards mock Jesus and beat him.
Day 25 on The Road to Life.
Today we read about Jesus being sentenced to death by Pilate as the people demand Jesus' crucifixion. Our reading was found in Matthew 27:1-2,11-26.

Today, we read Matthew 26:69-75 and learn about Peter's denial of knowing Jesus.

Today we read about the first part of Jesus' trial before the High Priest. We read the account from Matthew 26:57-68.

Today we read two separate gospel accounts of the night Jesus was arrested in the garden. We read John 18:1-12 and Luke 22:47-53.

Today we read Mark 14:32-42. Jesus is praying in the garden of Gethsemane dealing with his deep anxiety regarding the upcoming events, working to reconcile his will to the will of the Father.
Day 20 on The Road to Life.
Today we read John 17 and look at the prayer Jesus prayed in the garden on the eve of his death.
Day 19 on The Road to Life.
Today we read Matthew 26:31-35. Jesus tells Peter and the other disciples that they will all abandon him. As we consider God's faithful response to our unfaithful hearts, we end the day reading Jesus' words of encouragement to the disciples in John 16:31-33.
Day 18 on The Road to Life.
Today we read John 15:1-17. Jesus teaches his disciples about maintaining close connection with him in order to grow as his followers.

Today we look at two examples of giving. First, in Luke 22:1-4, we read about a widow giving all she had to live on. Then, in Mark 14:3-9, we read about a woman anointing Jesus' head with a costly perfume.
The Road to Life - Day 7.
The religious leaders try to trap Jesus in his words in Mark 12:13-34. Jesus answers difficult questions about death and taxes. Then he tells us the most important two commandments.
Day 6 - The Parable of the Wedding Banquet.
Today we read Matthew 22:1-14. Jesus tells the story of a wedding banquet to parallel God's invitation to the kingdom of Heaven.
Day 5 - The Parable of the Tenants.
Today we read a parable of Jesus found in Mark 12:1-12. Jesus confronts the religious leaders through the story of a vineyard owner, his teneants, and the servants sent to collect the fruit of the vineyard.
Day 4 - Confrontation.
Today's reading is found in Matthew 21:23-27. We hear the religious leaders question Jesus' authority.
Day 3 - Jesus clears the Temple.
Today we read Mark 11:12-18. As Jesus clears the temple, he reminds the people that God's temple should be a house of prayer. We look at how our lives should also be driven by placing God first in what we do and say.
Day 2 - Palm Sunday - Rejoice!
Today we look at the events of Palm Sunday as shared by Luke as we read Luke 19:28-40. We look at the emotional response of the people to Jesus riding into town on a donkey and the resultant praise.
