Hey there Hive fam,
This weeks theme is “Lindas Palabras” which means 'Nice or Beautiful words'
I've decided to cover the song 'Island in the sun' by American Rock band - Weezer on Ukulele.
I'm currently on leave from my work at the moment and this song is stuck in my head.
I was a kid the first time I heard the song, and I loved the tune and lyrics. Something so simple yet catchy.
The song is fairly simple of the ukulele with just 4 chords (Em Am D G) mainly with an extra one (C) in the bridge.
Here's the link to the original song -
Here are the lyrics to the song -
Hip, hip
Hip, hip
Hip, hip
Hip, hip
When you're on a holiday
You can't find the words to say
All the things that come to you
And I wanna feel it too
On an island in the sun
We'll be playin' and havin' fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain
Hip, hip
Hip, hip
When you're on a golden sea
You don't need no memory
Just a place to call your own
As we drift into the zone
On an island in the sun
We'll be playin' and havin' fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain
We'll run away together
We'll spend some time forever
We'll never feel bad anymore
Hip, hip
Hip, hip
Hip, hip
On an island in the sun
We'll be playin' and havin' fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain
We'll run away together
We'll spend some time forever
We'll never feel bad anymore
Hip, hip
(We'll never feel bad anymore)
Hip, hip
(No) hip, (no), hip
(We'll never feel bad anymore)
Hip, hip
(No) hip, (no), hip
(No) hip, (no), hip

Hey there,
Hope you're all doing well and having a great week.
After months of contemplation, I've finally gotten myself a ukulele! It's something that I've wanted for a while now.
Still learning the basics and figuring out the chords. It's kind of similar to the guitar, but learning new finger placements for chords. Excited to share what I learn here.
This weeks theme is 'Stories of the Night'. Reminds me of all the good stories I've heard and read as a kid.
As I've grew up, I realised I've read lesser stories as I tend to read more non-fiction.
One such story that stands apart is definitely 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho.
Its a straightforward and simple yet a beautiful story. Many life lessons, but one in particular is that sometimes we need to move away from what we love and that keeps us safe and in our comfort zone, to truly value it. Sometimes we already have what we are looking for, but it just takes a different viewpoint/path to appreciate/find it. Here's a short composition I'd like to call 'The Alchemist'
Hope you like it. :)

Hey there,
Wanted to do a bass cover of the song 'Be Yourself' by the American Rock Band - Audioslave.
The song was released in 2005 and is considered as one of their most popular songs.
The lyrics were inspired from frontman Chris Cornell own life mostly regarding the different changes, tragedies and mistakes he did in the past.
He wants to make up for those times, not feel guilty and embarrassed about them and wants to move on.
Chris Cornell is one of my all time favourites and it's sad to know that he isn't around anymore.
Here's a cover dedicated to the legend himself.
This is the my first bass cover on Hive. I hope you like it :)

Lyrics to the song -
Someone falls to pieces
Sleeping all alone
Someone kills the pain
Spinning in the silence
She finally drift away
Someone gets excited
In a chapel yard
Catches a bouquet
Another lays a dozen
White roses on a grave
And be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
Someone finds salvation in everyone
Another only pain
Someone tries to hide themself
Down inside himself he prays
Someone swears their true love
Until the end of time
Another runs away
separate or united?
Healthy or insane?
And be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
To be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
To be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
Be yourself is all that you can do
Even when you've paid enough
Been pulled apart
Or been held up
Every single memory of
The good or bad, faces of love
Don't lose any sleep tonight
I'm sure everything will end up alright
You may win or lose
But to be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
To be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
To be yourself is all that you can
Be yourself is all that you can
Be yourself is all that you can do

Hi there fam,
This week's theme is 'Nuevo Día' that means 'New Day'.
The first lyrics that popped into my head was the song - 'Feeling Good'. This song is written by English composers Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd.
Nina Simone recorded the song for her 1965 album 'I put a spell on you' after which alot of other artists have gone on to cover the song. John Coltrane, George Michael, Muse to name a few. One of my favorites covers has to be the one by Michael Buble.
The song has some really powerful lyrics especially the chorus.
'Its a new dawn, its a new day, it's a new life for me. And I'm feeling good'
There something about starting fresh and looking forward to the challenges of a new day with confidence. Being bold not only about the decisions but also the positive attitude you carry throughout the day.
This is my rendition of the song. I plucked the verses and went heavier in the chorus. I hope you like it :)
Lyrics of the song -
Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
I'm feeling good
Fish in the sea
You know how I feel
River running free
You know how I feel
Blossom on a tree
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
Dragonfly out in the sun, you know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies all havin' fun, you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done, that's what I mean
And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me
For me
Stars when you shine
You know how I feel
Scent of the pine
You know how I feel
Oh, freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
I'm feeling good
I feel so good
I feel so good

Hey there!
This week the theme is 'Mirrors on Earth' and the first song that came to mind was the song 'Mirrors' by Justin Timberlake. The song has made a recent comeback thanks to short video format platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. The song was released in 2013 and received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Solo performance. The music video also won two awards at MTV video music awards. I think it's a great song with nice lyrics. My interpretation of the song is it takes two to make a relationship work, like a mirror. Go through the good times and the hard times together. Especially when things get difficult, its important for the other person to 'reflect' and remind each other of the promises that were kept and continue working on it and be their best versions.
Here's the link to the original song if you haven't head it -
Lyrics to the song -
Aren't you somethin' to admire?
'Cause your shine is somethin' like a mirror
And I can't help but notice
You reflect in this heart of mine
If you ever feel alone and
The glare makes me hard to find
Just know that I'm always parallel on the other side
'Cause with your hand in my hand and a pocket full of soul
I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go
Just put your hand on the glass
I'm here tryin' to pull you through
You just gotta be strong
'Cause I don't wanna lose you now
I'm lookin' right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart
Is a space that now you hold
Show me how to fight for now
And I'll tell you, baby, it was easy
Comin' back here to you once I figured it out
You were right here all along
It's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me
I couldn't get any bigger
With anyone else beside of me
And now it's clear as this promise
That we're making two reflections into one
'Cause it's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me, staring back at me
I made an acoustic cover of the song, found an acapella version of the song on Youtube, so I added guitars to it.

Hey there,
Hope you've had a good week so far :)
This weeks theme is 'Amante' which means lover. I've decided to cover the song 'I Will Follow You Into The Dark' by the group Death Cab for Cutie.
The words of the song have always struck me. There are obviously different ways of interpretting the song but for me, it means being there for the other person no matter what.
Be it tough times and beyond life itself. Its a comforting feeling knowing that there is someone to catch you if you fall or to hold your hands in difficult times and just being there.
Showing up and being there and letting them know it's going to be okay.
Here is the link to the original song -
Song Lyrics -
Love of mine
Someday you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark
No blinding light
Or tunnels, to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
In Catholic school, as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
"Son, fear is the heart of love, " so I never went back
And if Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
But it's nothing to cry about
'Cause we'll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms
And if Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
Then I'll follow you into the dark

Hey Hive fam,
Ending this weekend with a cover of 'Smells like teen spirit' by American Rock Band - Nirvana.
This song recently completed its 30 year anniversary on September 10th and is still considered as one of the greatest songs of the grunge era.
The song went on to be placed in the lists of 'The Songs that shaped Rock and Roll', '100 Greatest Singles of All Time', '500 Greatest Songs of All Time' and also into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Here's the link to the original song
Here are the lyrics to the song -
Load up on guns, bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over-bored and self-assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
Yeah, hey
I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
Yeah, hey
And I forget just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, was hard to find
Oh well, whatever, never mind
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
A denial, a denial, a denial, a denial, a denial
A denial, a denial, a denial, a denial
Hope you like this cover! My favorite part is towards the 3 minute mark for the lead.
Have a great week ahead :)

Hey there,
This week's theme is 'Protection'.
I think one of the main aspects of feeling proctected by family/friends is being there for each other in times of need.
This beautiful song by Bruno Mars is the first one that came to mind. Hope you like the song and cover!

Lyrics to the song -
Oh-oh
If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea
I'll sail the world to find you
If you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can't see
I'll be the light to guide you
We'll find out what we're made of
When we are called to help our friends in need
You can count on me like one, two, three
I'll be there
And I know when I need it, I can count on you like four, three, two
And you'll be there
'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh, yeah
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh, yeah, yeah
If you tossin' and you're turnin' and you just can't fall asleep
I'll sing a song beside you
And if you ever forget how much you really mean to me
Every day I will remind you, oh
We'll find out what we're made of
When we are called to help our friends in need
You can count on me like one, two, three
I'll be there
And I know when I need it, I can count on you like four, three, two
And you'll be there
'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh, yeah
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh, yeah, yeah
You'll always have my shoulder when you cry
I'll never let go, never say goodbye
You know...
You can count on me like one, two, three
I'll be there
And I know when I need it I can count on you like four, three, two
And you'll be there
'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh, yeah
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh
You can count on me 'cause I can count on you

Happy Monday, Hive Fam.
Here's a guitar cover of the song 'She Will Be Loved' by the American Pop band Maroon 5.
This is probably one of their most popular tracks and was written by Adam Levine and James Valentine. Part of their debut studio album - Songs about Jane.
Here's the link to the original song -
Here are the lyrics to the song -
Beauty queen of only eighteen, she had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her, she always belonged to someone else
I drove for miles and miles, and wound up at your door
I've had you so many times, but somehow I want more
I don't mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
Tap on my window, knock on my door, I want to make you feel beautiful
I know I tend to get so insecure, it doesn't matter anymore
It's not always rainbows and butterflies, it's compromise that moves us along, yeah
My heart is full and my door's always open, you come anytime you want, yeah
I don't mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
I know where you hide, alone in your car
Know all of the things that make you who you are
I know that goodbye means nothing at all
Comes back and begs me to catch her every time she falls, yeah
Tap on my window, knock on my door, I want to make you feel beautiful
I don't mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain, oh
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
Yeah, yeah
I don't mind spending every day (Ooh, ooh)
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
(Please don't try so hard to say goodbye)
Hope you like the song and hope you have a great week ahead! :D

Hey there Hive fam,
Here's an electric guitar cover of the song 'American Idiot' by American rock band Green Day.
This is the title track from their seventh studio album of the same name and released as the first single from it. It's also one of their signature songs when they perform live.
Heres a link to the original song -
This was probably one of the songs I had on repeat growing up. More than anything else, it reminds me of the time I used discover new bands and music every week, something I haven't done in a while now.
I've also realised that my music taste has also evolved from heavy distortion tracks to softer mellow indie vibes. I think most of us do go through this change and sometimes it feels good to play/remember them just for old time sake.
So here it is. Probably my first distortion cover on Hive. Picked up the vocals+ drum track from Youtube. My favorite part of the song is at 1:53 to 2:12.
Let me know if you have similar tracks that you listened to as teenagers?
Have a great weekend! :D

Happy Monday Hive Fam,🕺
This week's theme is 'Humour + Love'.
I've decided to cover the song - 'Drugs' by Tai Verdes. This song blew up on social media a few months back and it's got a really catchy tune.
At the start of 2020, Tai Verdes was selling mobile phones and sleeping on a friend's couch when his career suddenly took off. He's been putting out some really fun tracks since then. Mostly around similar themes of fun, love and being okay with what you have going with a positive vibe.

Lyrics to the song -
I don't wanna tell my mom I smoke this weed
I don't wanna tell my dad, he'll call me weak
I don't wanna be the blackest of the sheep
Missing their call every single week
I don't wanna say
Sometimes I do drugs
Not hard ones, just ones that change my mind up
Drugs
Can't find us, if you think I'm gone
I'm just doing drugs
Not hard ones, just ones that change my mind up
Don't mind me if I light up
Only need it sorta kinda
Drugs
La da da da da, la da da da da
Drugs
La da da da da, la da da da da
Sometimes I don't care, sometimes I cry too
Sometimes life's a little hard to get used to
Occasionally, I forget to sleep
Remind myself that I gotta eat three times a day this week
Try not to clench my teeth
Got a little OCD
Listen to the CDC, when I'm feeling uneasy

Happy Saturday Hive Fam,
Missed out on a lot of weeks of Hive Open Mic and hoping to make up for it. This week's theme is 'Global Harmony' and the first song that pops up to my mind is 'What a Wonderful World' by American legend - Louis Armstrong.
A fun fact about the song -
This song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
Link to the original song -
Lyrics to the song -
I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying
"I love you"
I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They'll learn much more
Than I'll never know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Oh yeah

Hey Hive Family,
It's finally good to be back to Hive after 3 long months and putting out covers again!
Really liked this song I came across, a few weeks ago by Australian rapper and singer, The Kid LAROI and Canadian singer, Justin Bieber. This song has been topping charts globally and I thought I should try and make my own version of it. Used the app Moises to single out the vocals.
Some fun facts about the song -

Lyrics to the song -
I do the same thing I told you that I never would
I told you I'd change, even when I knew I never could
Know that I can't find nobody else as good as you
I need you to stay, need you to stay, hey (oh)
I get drunk, wake up, I'm wasted still
I realize the time that I wasted here
I feel like you can't feel the way I feel
Oh, I'll be fucked up if you can't be right here
Oh-oh-oh-whoa (oh-oh-whoa, oh-oh-whoa)
Oh-oh-oh-whoa (oh-oh-whoa, oh-oh-whoa)
Oh-oh-oh-whoa (oh-oh-whoa, oh-oh-whoa)
Oh, I'll be fucked up if you can't be right here
I do the same thing I told you that I never would
I told you I'd change, even when I knew I never could
Know that I can't find nobody else as good as you
I need you to stay, need you to stay, hey
I do the same thing I told you that I never would
I told you I'd change even when I knew I never could
Know that I can't find nobody else as good as you
I need you to stay, need you to stay, hey
When I'm away from you, I miss your touch (ooh-ooh)
You're the reason I believe in love
It's been difficult for me to trust (ooh-ooh)
And I'm afraid that I'ma fuck it up
Ain't no way that I can leave you stranded
'Cause you ain't ever left me empty-handed
And you know that I know that I can't live without you
So, baby, stay
Oh-oh-oh-whoa (oh-oh-whoa, oh-oh-whoa)
Oh-oh-oh-whoa (oh-oh-whoa, oh-oh-whoa)
Oh-oh-oh-whoa (oh-oh-whoa, oh-oh-whoa)
I'll be fucked up if you can't be right here
I do the same thing I told you that I never would
I told you I'd change, even when I knew I never could
Know that I can't find nobody else as good as you
I need you to stay, need you to stay, hey
I do the same thing I told you that I never would
I told you I'd change even when I knew I never could
Know that I can't find nobody else as good as you
I need you to stay, need you to stay, hey

Hey there Hive Open Mic friends,
This week the theme is "Buena Vibra" which means 'Good Vibes'.
I've covered the song 'Better Together' by Jack Johnson for this week.
Here’s the link to the original song -
Lyrics to the Song
There's no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a shoe box of photographs
With sepia-toned loving
Love is the answer, at least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together
Mmm, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, we'll look at the stars when we're together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together
And all of these moments
Just might find their way into my dreams tonight
But I know that they'll be gone
When the morning light sings
Or brings new things
For tomorrow night you see
That they'll be gone too
Too many things I have to do
But if all of these dreams might find their way
Into my day to day scene
I'd be under the impression
I was somewhere in between
With only two
Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do
Or places we got to be
We'll sit beneath the mango tree now
Yeah, it's always better when we're together
Mmm, we're somewhere in between together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together
I believe in memories
They look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now and, and when I wake up
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time
And there is no, no song I could sing
And there is no combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together
If you look closely, you'll notice that the guitar is missing a string. I broke it just a minute before recording the song while tuning. I had everything setup and ready and then TING .
I didn't have a replacement string at home and with the current lockdown restrictions, I wasn't able to step out and get one from the store either.
Bad vibes took over for 10 seconds but I decided to get on with recording the song and figure it out. While recording, I realised I never really needed the string for the song anyway. It's funny how things work out when you move ahead with good vibes. Lesson learnt. You + Good Vibes is 'Better Together' Cheers!
Here's a Youtube Link to the cover, the videos starts after 7 seconds.

Happy Sunday Hive Folks,
Decided to do a guitar cover of the song - ‘Best Part’ by Canadian singer Daniel Caesar and American singer H.E.R.
The song was released 2017 as a part of Daniel Caesar’s album ‘Freudian’. The song won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. It also won ‘Best Collaboration at the 2018 Soul Train Music Awards.
Fun Fact - Barack Obama included the song in his 2019 Summer Playlist.
Song Lyrics
Oh, ey
You don't know, babe
When you hold me
And kiss me slowly
It's the sweetest thing
And it don't change
If I had it my way
You would know that you are
You're the coffee that I need in the morning
You're my sunshine in the rain when it's pouring
Won't you give yourself to me
Give it all, oh
I just wanna see
I just wanna see how beautiful you are
You know that I see it
I know you're a star
Where you go I follow
No matter how far
If life is a movie
Oh you're the best part, oh oh oh
You're the best part, oh oh oh
Best part
It's the sunrise
And those brown eyes, yes
You're the one that I desire
When we wake up
And then we make love
It makes me feel so nice
You're my water when I'm stuck in the desert
You're the Tylenol I take when my head hurts
You're the sunshine on my life
I just wanna see how beautiful you are
You know that I see it
I know you're a star
Where you go I follow
No matter how far
If life is a movie
Then you're the best part, oh oh oh
You're the best part, oh oh oh
Best part
If you love me won't you say something
If you love me won't you
Won't you
If you love me won't you say something
If you love me won't you
Love me, won't you
If you love me won't you say something
If you love me won't you
If you love me won't you say something
If you love me won't you
Love me, won't you
If you love me won't you say something
If you love me won't you
If you love me won't you say something
If you love me won't you
Love me, won't you
Here's the link to the original if you haven't heard it yet.
I was able to pull out the vocals by using the app, 'Moises'.
Hope you like the guitar cover and have a great week ahead.
