I am having a lot of insights, lately, on how to go about my creative process

and it's an understatement to say that this is a pretty great feeling, after having felt like a ship without a compass, drifting aimlessly in a huge ocean, for the majority of my life.

At the same time, my laptop keeps crashing and blue screening on me, these days ( no worries, I have back up methods and machines these days ), telling me that I need to spend even less time staring at screens and even more time working on my ( mainly ) analog art process: lino carving.

Today I just wanted to share a quick video sneak preview of me where I talk a little bit about my lino dino carving and the character that I'm working on today ( and probably tomorrow ), Mrs. Porcupine. This cute little healer ( getting on people's nerves ) is one of the dozen or so characters in my dinoverse ( and a story of hers made it into my first book The Life of Hypersensitivosaurus: 22 Stories of Dinos and other Animals, that I ( sort of ) finished, on the 22nd of the 2nd month of 2022.

Today I felt a strong urge to get back into NFT art, but then without all the hassle, the shilling, the tweeting and all that stuff. Believe me, I tried that and it's not my thing.

For now, I will go Hive only, on NFT showroom ( https://nftshowroom.com/ ) and I plan to sell my unique art there for almost no money, without feeling like I'm undervaluing myself.

More on that in my following post.

Just know that - if you're active on Hive and can find a way to use NFT Showroom - you will soon be able to get your hands on my unique process art, thereby supporting me in my creative journey and earning a percentage of my love and gratitude.

It's time to bring back the fun into the creative process

to stop being the wise old adult all the time

to reclaim the kid inside of me ( and us )

and so much more

To really feel ALIVE!

I picture myself reading my own stories, from my book(s), intercut with shots of my hands working on illustrations ( drawing, painting and lino carving, inking ) and then, sharing this process on the blockchain.

The videos will last as long at it takes me to read my story or not ( I won't make any rules and if I would, I aim as break as many of them as I can, every single time )

I also see myself talking to fellow creatives and friends on the creative process while they either work on their craft or show it in any way possible ( reading fragments from their finished or unfinished books, playing the guitar or any other instrument, singing, rapping, beatboxing, painting, illustrating, dancing, juggling, clowning* and so on and so forth ).

I am done with just sharing my own creative process ( although I will keep doing that too ), it's time to spread the love to fellow creatives and co-creators in a more active way.

THE TIME IS NOW.

And then I went on a walk and read my first story, afterward and made this rough cut, that is also kind of meant as a teaser to get you interested in my book ( if you weren's already one of my fan boys or fan girls ).

I decided that I want to give away ( as much of ) my first book as much as possible, even though a bunch of you already told me that they want to buy it from me for the amazing price of 22 ( my favorite number ) Hive or HBD.

*Talking about clowning. I discovered a very enjoyable series, a month or so ago on exactly that subject. It's called 'Baskets' and tells the story of Chip Baskets ( aka Baskets the clown ) and his polar opposite, his ( not so ) identical twin brother, Dale. Both brothers are played by the same actor, Zach Galifianakis, who had his breakthrough in The Hangover ( 2009 ), a movie that I forgot soon after I watched it in cinema.

Chip and Dale ( pronounce as... )

They also have two DJ-ing ( adopted? ) identical twin brothers who basically live their own lives - while the other twins ( Chip and Dale ) find themselves stuck at their mother's house, over and over again, eventhough they are in their mid 40s. Big momma ( hen ) is played by the amazing comedian Louis C.K., who passed away at the start of this year, 2022. And then there's the very dry ( funny in her own way ) sidekick, Martha, played by Martha Stewart and some other more or less likeable characters. I think it helped that I didn't know any of the cast members, when I started watching this. Aside from that it's just very funny, an awesome blend of comedy and drama, just how I like it with pretty strong acting.

I am rediscovering myself through vlogging, getting closer and closer to the truth, finding my voice.

Today's vlog started out as a blog post, yesterday night. It was inspired by one of my favorite 'speakers of truth' and good friend @clareartista , as well as by two other friends @selfhelp4trolls and @drrune

and probably a bunch of other people in my life - who are doing something very similar.

For those interested - and for context - I decided to also share the unfinished blog post that started this,

so here goes:

Inspired by a powerful vlog from my good friend @clareartista , titled "I Deleted my Google Account", I decided that it's about time to take my own next steps towards increased decentralization.

This is a journey that I started on, almost six years ago, if I count quitting my last job, as a slave of the system, in August 2016, as the starting point.

Now I think of it, I think I decided to quit that job in April 2016, exactly 6 years ago.

Soon after quitting, a decision that my boss and my own parents struggled to understand ( and after failing for my driving exam, for the second time ), I left The Netherlands for the smallest one of the Canary Islands, El Hierro. I left with just a backpack, filled with some clothes, a phone, a tablet and a printed screenplay ( 90 pages ) for a feature film I planned to make - a screenplay that I had written in collaboration with an American friend with whom I had collaborated, long distance, since 2013.

I talked about that part of my journey in my recent video talk with my good friend @selfhelp4trolls - Two Failures Fail to Talk about Failing - Untangled Knots 3.1. If you like what you see and hear there, you might also enjoy the remainder of our conversation A Positive Feedback Loop for Creatives - Untangled Knots Podcast 3.2

The next year, in May 2017, I discovered crypto and the blockchain, as well as crypto blogging. I shared that story a while ago ( how I made it to the blockchain when I was at one of my all-time lows ) in:

Talking Crypto with Friends - Cabin in the Woods - Part 1 and Part 2

A little over half a year after getting into crypto, at the start of 2018, I left the Netherlands, to make my way to Portugal. I travelled via Germany and then Spain, planning to not return before I would find a house to live in. I kept that promise.

That house is now sold, since October last year, but I'm still in Portugal, in the same area. I just changed to renting, once again.

These days I am taking more and more steps to reclaim my freedom, a mission that feels increasingly important since the draconic measures that have been taken, worldwide, since the start of 2020. It helps to be a stubborn creative who has always felt like a caged bird, an outcast, that's for sure. I'm not the kind of caged bird that gives up on its freedom though.

I feel a strong urge to further point out the importance of decentralization and conscious choices towards increased freedom and...

This is where the blog post ended and when I went outside to start vlogging instead. I shared the above, as I felt it's important and the links included might interest you.

By the way, I decided to share this vlog, in all its imperfection, unedited, aside from the title at the end and to proudly show it in its vertical video style.

I actually used to be a filmmaker and I despised vertical video, as it goes against old fashioned film rules, but hey... I like to break the rules and I embrace imperfection these days. Also, it's usually striving for some kind of perfection that stops me from actually sharing things and speaking out and I'm done with that.

I am gonna end it here, for today, and while editing this post and re-uploading my video, I also watched the latest vlog from @selfhelp4trolls , once again finding many parallels with my work, message and overall feeling. It seems like we're very much in sync these days ( and not just he and I ).

I suggest you check it out: We are all gonna be famous

My friends Clare ( @clareartista ), Zach ( @selfhelp4trolls ) and Javier ( @drrune ) , as mentioned above, will each receive 10% of the payout to this post, so every vote is extra welcome. And if you aren't already, I highly recommend to check out their blogs and work.

Cheers,

Hypersensitivosaurus aka Vincent Nijman

Good Morning, Good Afternoon and Good Night,

I tried to upload this a couple of days ago, as mentioned, briefly, in on changing my creative process today it seems to work

I decided to post a 10 minute 'walkie talkie' ( walking vlog ) , for a change. I think it might be interesting for those who are either following my creative process ( and curious what's going on with my book writing ) or who are interested in the creative process, in general.

I hope you enjoy looking at the bottom half of my face - and up my nose - ( I sure did. It's an interesting perspective. But, first and foremost, I hope you like seeing some Portuguese nature, hearing the birds (?) as well as the rain ( mainly the latter ) - falling down on me and the forest.

The rain distracted me - ít's an understatement when I say that most vegetation growing around here isn't great umbrella material, if you get my point - and made it impossible to keep my whole face into the frame while trying to find shelter to not get too soaked and ruin my phone.

Talking about 'failed filmmaking', I talked about failure and filmmaking, recently with my good friend @selfhelp4trolls

Believe it or not, I used to be a filmmaker ;<)

If you've got time to spare and want to see - and hear - two creatives talk about failure and the creative process, I recommend watching Zach's interview with me:

Two failures fail to talk about failing - Untangled Knots Podcast 3.1

P.S. I didn't want to upload a 2GB video file today, so I spent some time finding a way to convert my video. It will take me some time ( and possibly several vlogs ) before I figure out what works best.

I decided to change the perspective for a change. This time the story isn't focused on Hypersensitivosaurus but on another, more vulnerable creature, in the animal kingdom.

Hypersensitivosaurus is playing second fiddle here ( or isn't he? )

I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it :<)

Be warned if you're a perfectionist...

I am looking for a new kind of form for my storytelling project. I felt like adding video or animation too, as well as audio. Up till now I had just used text and drawings ( aside from the attempt at a computer game that this project started out with last September / October.

This video - for lack of a better word - is the result of about two hours of creativity:

  • A minute or 10 of filming with my iPhone 6s and talking with my mouth. With my laptop on my lap and phone in my hands ( supported by a Dutch book with kids stories that inspired me these months )
  • and almost two hours of 'having fun' with the notorious Windows Movie Maker that I hardly dared to recommend to my film students back in the days ( yeah, I actually have been a film teacher in a not too distant past )

This animation attempt was a true struggle between perfectionism and the polar opposite, and ended up being the opposite of perfectionism:

Blurry, bad lighting, screen shakes and so on.

Can I do better?

Sure, but that wasn't the point here.

I had fun and I just like to share the process with you all ( the highs and the lows ) so this will have to make do for now :<)

For a backstory on this particular dino dream as well as the drawing that I used for this animation, here's the post that I wrote about it 2 months ago:

https://peakd.com/hive-120078/@vincentnijman/a-day-at-the-seaside-dreaming-up-another-superzensitivosaurus-story-and-sharing-the-creative-process

Alright, time for me to watch a 'real' movie: 'Frightmare', a 1983 Troma production. Fun guaranteed! ;<)

My phone vibrated 5 minutes ago:

It was an emergency alert from the Dutch government.

It started with Portuguese - Alerta de emergencia ( my phone might still think I'm in Portugal, a month after my departure), then Dutch - informing us to follow the instructions of the government, to keep our distance ( 1.5 meter ), to not go out if we're sick or having a cold. To protect ourselves and the people around us. Together against Corona.

Things are starting to get serious in here and the freedom loving creative, the somewhat anarchist rebel in me is struggling. I know I'm not the only one.

I had to move places yesterday. Hopped on a train from Utrecht ( the 4th largest city of The Netherlands ) to Eindhoven ( apparently, the 5th largest town ).

I was accompanied to the train station by a new friend ( who I dated in times of Corona ) - we drank a coffee and had some gluten free cake ( I must say that I still prefer cake with gluten, unhealthier or not ) and than bid our farewells ( without touching ).

The irony! I finally started dating again and then Corona / Covid19 happened. Now I keep receiving messages of women who are interested in me but we are not even allowed to meet up, let alone to touch each other.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share a couple of minutes of the Dutch landscape, passing by, seen from a train window - kind of ZEN, like the fizzy drink video that I shared yesterday.

Yesterday afternoon, I arrived in the place where I will spend the next couple of weeks, perhaps even months. I've got an entire house ( 3 floors ) to myself, thanks to very friendly acquaintances. I'm grateful for this opportunity.

I plan to stay as social as possible ( from a distance ) with everybody I know and care about. And as long as the government lets me, I will keep going outside to stay fit and sane.

Expect me to start doing my best creative work now ( time to write these books about that mindful dinosaur ) and to start rocking on the new blockchain!

Much love ( from a distance ),

Vincent aka HyperZENsitivosaurus

Sometimes we just need a moment of ZEN. In fact, we need plenty of ZEN these days.

A few days back, I bought a tube with 17 of these fizzy cranberry ( plus vitamin C ) pills at the pharmacy, to build resistance. I don't think I need to explain why.

I'm not in total lock down yet, so I also make sure to get plenty of vitamin D ( it's officially Spring today! ) and exercise in.

Anyhow, just looking at this fizzy pill interacting with the water, this morning, made me ZEN. I hope it does the same to you.

I'll be back tomorrow with an actual story ( on the travel to my safe place ) and another, more exciting video.
