When a bigtalkin' rancher lost six prize horses to a pack of outlaws, folks said Gabe was too old to chase 'em. But he rode clear to Kansas, brought back the horses… and not a single prisoner.
And when the town asked what happened on that long trail home, Gabe just said… 'I slept. They didn't.'

But a brief definition is a small ustic shelter used by cowboys as a temporary home to stay in for long peioss to watch cattle and maintain fences on the remote boundaries of a large ranch. Dutch & Slim's Cowboy Candy (Coffee Toffee) Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups sugar
- ⅓ cup strong black coffee (brewed from the camp pot)
- Pinch of salt
- A dab of butter or grease (to oil the pan)
Instructions:
- Heat Up the Skillet: Set your cast iron skillet on the Ben Franklin stove and let it warm up good and hot.
- Add Sugar & Coffee: Pour the sugar into the skillet, then add the hot coffee and a pinch of salt. Stir with a wooden spoon or whatever you got.
- Stir & Watch: Keep stirring so it don't burn. When the mixture starts bubbling and turns a deep golden brown, it's ready. (If you have a cold creek nearby, drop a bit in—if it hardens quick, it's done.)
- Pour & Cool: Grease a tin plate or a flat surface with a dab of butter. Pour the hot syrup onto it and let it cool for about an hour.
- Break & Enjoy: Crack it into chunks with your knife handle. Enjoy a sweet taste of Christmas out on the range!

Have you ever known a windy old character? That was the name given to a tall tale in cowboy vernacular, a Windy. Many times those tall tales are what we would call today little white lies.

“Gosh, I wish I hadn’t said that.” “I wish I could take that back.” How many times have you said that after you spoke in haste, or in anger? Words can have such an impact depending on how we use them and what we say. Think about the words you speak and why you use them as you listen to today's story and reflect on the words of scripture shared.

Location: Somewhere On the Sedalia Trail
Dear Journal,
Remember the Alamo. How often did I hear that as a child growing up? We had kin who fought with Sam Houston at San Jacinto. The battle that won the war for independence. Today we took a side trip to Brenham TX town for supplies and were surprised to see banners and signs announcing something called a semicentennial celebration of the battle at the Alamo. There was a dinner on the ground at the local church. Some local dignitaries spoke and then a grizzled old Methodist preacher named John Wesley Kennerman spoke. He had been a circuit ridin’ preaching during the fight for independence over on the Brazo river territory.
He spoke of the dedication of the brave volunteers who fought and gave their lives for freedom for future Texans. He reminded us that Freedom is never free and that much of the freedoms we enjoy as Christians came at a cost. My bible lays open beside me now at John 3:16. As I close it is with a prayer of thanks for the free range I ride as a Trial Boss and a child of God.
Fire’s about out, Stars are shining. Time for my talk with the Lord.

Trail Bosses Journal Trail Date February 13th, 1887. Location. Somewhere on the trail. Dear Journal. Well, there's one empty cot in the bunkhouse tonight. Charlie’s gone to be with the Lord - one day he was here and the next day he was gone. Kind of strange, really. Somehow I thought he would live forever. Charlie was here when I signed on at the Triple Cross. Back then, they called him the old man, and to this day, he still called me son. He was a cowboy's cowboy. I mean, a top hand who never had the need to show it. The new hands who hired hired on would sometimes shake their heads and say, Hey, Grandpa, what do you do here? Well, a few days after watching him work with the sure gentle grace, they were seeking him out for teaching. Charlie’s countenance came from his relationship with the Lord. And he made no bones about letting you know that. if he wasn’t a whistling or singing “and he walks with me and talks with me” when he topped off an outlaw bronc, he’d tell you, I can do all things to Christ Jesus who strengthens me. Now, Charlie, like most of us, wasn't seen much on Sundays in churches there in town. But early in the morning, as the sun peeked over the horizon, you could see him off in the distance, sitting on his horse, bible in hand and head bowed. He'd tell you, I'm a whole lot closer to the Lord in the saddle than in a pew. Tonight. There's one empty car in the bunkhouse, but there's no sadness here. All there is is a reminder of what a real cowboy looks like. The boys are all talking about his skills with the horse, his artistry with the rope, and the way he handled cattle. And yet, when they finished, Sleepy Kid, the Wrangler summed it all up when he said, And you should hear him pray.
So you think you're a real cowboy? God knows.

Our story today is about two cowboys, Dan Nash and Buster Ersby as they face some changes in their lives and a concluding thought as to one thing that never changes.
