In today's episode, I'm going to take you down memory lane with a personal recount of what it was like for me living in communist and post-communist Poland. I'll discuss the unbelievable transformation of the country after it joined the European Union and the importance of returning to visit.
Expats and travelers who plan to arrive in Poland will be pleasantly surprised that Poland is still one of the cheapest countries in the European Union. With that being said, let's go over the cost of living and how much money you'll be spending while you stay in Poland.

Poland has preserved quite a bit of tradition throughout the years. In this episode, we'll get to know a few of the many, unusual, but rather unique customs that are still practiced to this day.
Arriving in a new city can be quite intimidating especially if you're stepping foot on foreign soil. In this episode, I'll touch upon the few, but quite important tips for your first 24 hours in the country's capital: Warsaw.
SIM Cards
You can get your Polish SIM card for as low as 5 PLN (1.25 USD) all the way up to 50 PLN (12.00 USD). SIM cards are available at Orange, Play, Plus & T-Mobile stores, or other places, like kiosks/newsstands or Warsaw Chopin Airport and local grocery and convenience stores/
Bus/Tram/Metro Tickets
Prices start at 3.40 PLN (1.00 USD) all the way up to 58 PLN (14.00 USD) depending on which ticket you decide to go with.
You can buy your public transport tickets at newsstands, Passenger Service Centres and ticket machines, which you will find on most buses, in the new trams, at underground stations and near stops. In the ticket machines, which support many languages (English being one of them) you can pay for your ticket with coins or a card. You can purchase them on your phone as well.

You'll find bus stops outside of the arrival gate.

There's nothing better than a magical European Christmas market to get you into that holiday spirit! In Wroclaw, you'll find beautifully themed and decorated wooden huts that line the market filling it with smoked cheese, pastries, handmade pottery, jewelry and so much more! Don't forget to warm up by grabbing the famous mulled wine that you can enjoy from one of the Alpine balconies that look over the whimsical Market Square.
The Christmas Market in Wroclaw will be taking place in four main areas:
- The Market Square (Rynek)
- The Salt Square (Plac Solny)
- Świdnicka Street
- Oławska Street
Open from 19th November 2021 to 31st December 2021.
The regular opening hours are:
- On regular days from 10 am -9 pm
- On the 24th and 25th Dec- closed
- On the 26th December from 1-9 pm
- On the 31st December, the shops will close at 5 pm and gastronomy at 2 pm
Things to try:
Oscypek: smoked cheese made of salted sheep's milk, famous in the Polish mountain regions. Try it grilled with some cranberry jam
Mulled wine: Hot wine served in a Christmas-themed ceramic mug. Comes in many flavors.
Grilled Kielbasa/karkówka: *remember to tell them how much food you want in grams!
Pierniki: Polish handmade gingerbread cookies that you can eat or hang on your tree
