For six months now I have put my podcasts out there. It has been a meaningful journey for me and I do hope my meanderings have inspired others. Inspired others to think outside of the box.

Today I will finish the quick review of this series and then end with some closing thoughts. I will summarize what I find the bottom line to be.

Most of all I want to thank those who have listened. I wish you all the best as you each continue on your own journeys. Just remember: Every day is a new beginning.

For six months now I have put my podcasts out there. It has been a meaningful journey for me and I do hope it has inspired others. Inspired others to think outside of the box, maybe to connect some dots they did not know existed. Well, that is just a bit lofty…. Moving right along. I […]

There are many reasons why “Top 10” lists are popular. These reasons include: 1) They are quick and easy to read at a quick glance. 2) Someone else has done the work. 3) It can be fun to compare lists. 4) 10 is a nice round number. 5) They tell a lot about human nature. Including our own. And on it goes. […]

Is “Me Time” selfish? Well, that depends on how you use it. But there is a need for what I will call “Essential Me Time.” What makes it essential? Why is it needed? What are the benefits? How do we make it happen in this crazy life? Let’s just dig in and see what we […]

For the fun of it, I went to Amazon and searched for books about “boundaries.” There were 75 pages where each page displayed 16 books. That adds up to 1200 books on boundaries alone. For “depression” there were only 50 pages. For “love” there were also 75 pages. But I would argue that many of […]

How do we determine what information, what concepts are right for us? How do we know for certain that we have made a good decision, evaluated correctly? I find this be be rather complex. But, I am going to take a high level stab at it: Using that 1 to 5 scale. You know, the one venders often […]

The thing about movies is that they often focus on one aspect of life and help you visualize what that one aspect is really all about. Movies have a way of pulling you in and making you “feel” what those people on the screen feel. You can relate. The thing about movies is that they […]

What is a lullaby? Webster: “A song that is sung to bring sleep to children.” I like that. Sometimes your inner child needs a lullaby. Sometimes your soul needs a lullaby. Some time ago I wrote this poem “Hush My Soul” which is published in my Meditations book. Think of this as a lullaby for your soul. For this podcast I expand a bit on each of the 5 stanzas I have chosen from the poem. Here I share more of what I […]

Often during this series I have used the word “perspective.” Perhaps I am especially focused on this because we just had a sudden death in our family. One of those deaths that has changed everything in so many ways. Not to worry – this podcast is not going to be about death or my personal experience these […]

Webster says that a touchstone is a fundamental or quintessential part of something. What are your touchstones? I do hope you have more than one. Imagine them as beautifully painted rocks in your garden of life. The thing about rocks is that they last forever. Finding them is like a treasure hunt.

Come with me for a few minutes and let’s explore some of the ways you can find them, color them, polish them, and make your garden flourish.

Movies intrigue us for various reasons. One of the primary reasons is that movies reflect human nature. They span many areas of our lives: personal relationships, the future, what history teaches, the search for truth and so on.

What is truth? I have observed that it is pretty much what each individual concludes for themselves. Which is why I am calling truth “illusive.” So this week I am taking 3 movies that revolve around three different nuances of truth. What might they teach us? Here I share what I have found.

We try. We fail. Then what do we do? Say, “Poor me” and quit? Say, “Well at least I am better than those people over there!” and gloat?

Or…. Let’s look at  another option….

Here is a little quote from Albert Einstein to get this rolling:  “If at first, the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.” I think he is referring to our tendency to dismiss something new without really giving it a chance. So, I hope you find my idea at least a bit absurd. Because I have found from my own experience that there is hope for it.

My husband and I share passions for gourmet cooking, travel, the arts, family, community and more. We find that it is these pursuits that help us better understand and appreciate the diversity and beauty of the world around us.

In this podcast I share a few of my favorite travel moments and how they have inspired me to look at life in a more mindful way. When we encounter and engage with something unfamiliar to us – like another culture – we can see through their eyes. By doing this our lives become more rich and rewarding.

The concept of “journaling” goes far beyond writing in a book with blank pages. There are numerous ways to “record our experiences, ideas, and reflections.” The more of these ways we engage in – the more complete and gratifying our  connection with the world around us and our understanding of self.

For the next few minutes, let’s explore some of these options. So far I have come up with 9. I am sure you can think of even more!

Life Lessons on the Greenbelt.Meditation can take many forms. The Eternal and Nature are (in many ways) one and the same. So when I walk on the greenbelt, I find solice and an opportunity to meditate. As I walk, I might be listening to my meditation music or other inspirational material on my iPhone, or memorizing a text, or just breathing and opening my heart and mind to the Joy: These are all ways to strengthen that connection.

So come on a walk with me. See what you think. Perhaps this is something you could add to your “meditation repertoire.”  Perhaps you already have.

At its core, meditation is perhaps best described as a practice that allows one to focus. Which to me translates into “training one’s brain” to stop spinning: To not be distracted, to ponder and evaluate. Often meditation is associated with religious practices. And that is appropriate. But I find that this practice benefits in all areas of life. The MUSE 2 is an electronic device that helps train the brain to let one bypass emotions and take control. Since I am finding this to be a valuable tool in my personal efforts, I want to share what I have so far learned about the MUSE 2.

We say, “I hope so.” Often just in passing with no real expectations. And that is all good. But hope can be a powerful source of motivation. At times we are afraid to really hope. We let the fear of failure freeze us. Here I share ways I have found that help me put things in perspective and make hope the foundation for a more positive outlook on life.

Every child is a special delivery with unique characteristics. As they grow, they begin to blossom – unfold – and reveal who they are: outgoing or reserved, bold or cautious, artistic or analytic.  At some point we tend to pull back – fold in again. We find it is safer that way. We shield ourselves and often become more self-conscious. To some extent that is appropriate. But many of us fold in or recoil too far.  When we do that, it can inhibit our ability to fully engage with others – and in life in general. How can we bring back that exuberance and feel the joy of expressing our true selves? Let’s call on the source – our inner child!  In this episode we talk about how to reconnect with our inner child, hear their secrets and, as a result, animate our hearts.

We each determine for ourselves we will believe.

But it often seems so complicated. Think of belief as a bouquet of flowers. Pick one or two, focus on those. Slowly add more as you continue to seek and find.

As humans, we are both fascinated with and afraid of perfection.

Here I go into why this is and how we might look at “perfection” in a different way.

Using personal experiences, I present the difference between “striving for perfection” as opposed to making  “flawlessness” the goal.

But even when we do focus on one voice, how much do we get out of it? Here I suggest some ways to “re-process” information from others and make it your own.

Perhaps you have already made your New Year’s Resolution, or maybe made it and have already abandoned it. Either way, this discussion is about much more than that. In this discussion, I share some insights and some of my own experiences.
