Some days it feels like you’re on top of it all. Some days it feels like everything is crushing you. Rejection as a new therapist makes everything feel this way! You’re in your practice. You think you’re doing the right thing, and then a client, a mentor, or a peer shuts you down. Whew, that’s enough to make any of us doubt ourselves. As a therapist, especially a new therapist, how do you overcome this? How do we help ourselves heal so we can be better clinicians who then teach others how to heal? It is way more fun to learn about marketing, casework, helping clients, and even accounting! Anxiety is not the highlight of the day. I speak from first-hand experience. I wasted so many years in launching my practice because I was acting out of fear and regret and anxiety. Looking back, so many of my decisions were influenced by anxiety. I can’t say there are days that I don’t feel anxious, but I definitely say that I learned how to work through my anxiety to be the CEO Clinician I was meant to be. I don’t want to add to your anxiety, but I need you to know, no matter where you are in your career, you have to be careful in your opportunities and decisions. This was a huge learning curve for me as I was underpaid, seeing the wrong clients, and losing my joy in being a clinician. All of this and more is why I became a business coach for new therapists in private practice. Listen now or download the episode for later on Apple, Google, Spotify, & YouTube.

Your private practice becomes what you focus on! Have you realized that? If you focus on taxes, you think of your private practice in terms of that. If you’re stressed about your private practice, it becomes stressful. In all of this, you miss the fun stuff! No one wants that. This was a big reason why I left the large company, cookie-cutter approach for therapists. I was so tired of losing what makes clinical work a joy! I wanted to run a practice my way in an ethical environment that fought for my clients and really wanted to see people better themselves. All of this work made me better as a therapist, as a CEO Clinician, and as a business coach for new therapists in private practice, and I found my joy in private practice again! Summers are tricky, especially when you don’t have a plan. So many therapists neglect planning their schedules, so when things get slow in the office, they don’t know what to do with all that time. Remember that old saying: “Failure to plan is a plan to fail.” Well, that happens when your private practice doesn’t reflect your schedule and your client’s schedules. Summer is an excellent opportunity to do what you need to do for your business. To stay better prepared for the coming quarters, you can use this time to start brainstorming and planning. Less scrambling at the last minute, and more organized, prepared private practice and CEO Clinician.

Episode 113: Managing Stress in Private Practice While we love to dream about our private practice and romanticize the way we will change the world, there isn’t an easy way to keep that joy alive when stress hits. You’re busy. You wear so many hats. You’re involved in so many good things, but there’s just so much to do and you are weighted down by how much you carry. In our efforts as therapists to help our clients, we inhibit ourselves from reaching these people because we don’t know how to manage the stress that we internalize and carry. It’s uncomfortable to recognize, but that’s why we have to talk about it in this week’s episode of The CEO Clinician Podcast. You’re a therapist. You have your licenses. You have your dreams. You just can’t seem to figure out how to get there. One of the biggest things in running your practice is understanding your why. If you can’t tell me why you want to run a private practice, your motivation is going to quickly fall away when the work gets harder. You have to know why you are helping people. Why do you want to work in private practice? Why do you want to specialize in your niche? Why are you hesitant in chasing your dream as hard as you can?
