PODCAST: Sweet Tea + Jesus Podcast HOSTS: Kelsey Hamrick + Tara McAdam EPISODE TITLE: "EP:06 "Why can't I ask for help?" MAIN BIBLE PASSAGE: “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”- Matthew 7:12

- Ephesians 4:9-10
- Matthew 7:12

Practical Tips to try:
1. Start by asking your husband if there is anything that he needs help with or specifically needs you to do to better help his day.
2. Ask your husband “When you get a free five minutes, I have some things this week or today that I really need help with and here’s why.” A lot of times when they hear the “why” behind your timeline, it helps them to see from our perspective.
3. I know it’s hard, but try to ask for help without a tone or attitude. I struggle with this area. I am boiling inside that he already hasn’t jumped into help and then finally ask for help in an ugly, rude tone.
4. I make my husband a list of things that either I always need help with or may specifically need help with that week. I’ll either text it to him only on Monday and not send any reminders. Okay, maybe some gentle reminders, but I try not to. This has helped Jeremy, for instance if we have a family coming over for dinner on Friday and our grass needs to be cut. I’ll ask him on Monday of that week if he can cut the grass by Friday because we have guests coming.
5. Pray together. Pray that the Lord will help your mind to meditate on the fact that you and your husband are on the same team. He is for you. You are for him. His mind works completely differently than yours. Give him the benefit of the doubt before you're ready to go to war. Pray for opportunities to lovingly serve your spouse in ways that will show each other you love them.

PODCAST: Sweet Tea + Jesus Podcast
HOSTS: Kelsey Hamrick + Tara McAdam
EPISODE TITLE: “EP:04- Why is it so hard to find time to pray?”
MAIN BIBLE PASSAGE:“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” - 1 Thess. 5:16-18
RELATED ARTICLES, RESOURCES, AND CONTENT:
- "New Morning Mercies" - By Paul David Trip quote
- “Prayer is not bringing your list and asking God to sign the bottom. Prayer is handing God a blank sheet that you have already signed and trusting him to fill it out as He sees fit.”
Bible Verses to support today’s topic:
- 1 Thess. 5:16-18
- Philippians 4:6-7
- Matthew 16:24
- Matthew 10:38-39
- Luke 11:10
What are some practical disciplines you can put in place to help your prayer life?
- Get up. Get up early. Get up before work. Get up before the kids. Get up to show the Lord he matters to you (more than sleep, in my case). There is something about starting off your day with the Lord and letting Him set the tone for your day.
- Outloud. When I used to have a long commute to work, I would pray out loud. I know I looked silly passing cars.
- Write it down. I love to write down my prayers now. Start a prayer journal and keep a record of your conversations with the Lord.
- Reminders. Put reminders on post-it notes or note cards everywhere. Where you brush your teeth. Where you wash dishes. On your dash board in your car. Set an alarm on your phone to go off during a time in the day where you can stop and pray.
Sweet Tea+Jesus APPLY/REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
- How is your prayer life? Do you feel like it is a priority or on the back burner?
- Do you have a consistent prayer place and time that you faithfully meet with the Lord?
- Do you feel your prayers are transparent and honest with the Lord?
- Are there any practical disciplines mentioned in today's episode that you feel encouraged you to invest more in your prayer life?
