Rosie is an engineer in New York City considering a career change that may turn her life upside down. When the ground she’s standing on gets ripped out from beneath her (or rather her apartment’s ceiling, I should say) Rosie finds herself sharing a temporary living situation with her best friend’s cousin, Lucas. Lucas isn’t just Lina’s cousin, he’s a professional surfer with some big life changes in the works. When he meets Rosie, his cousin’s best friend, he decides to help her move past some blocks to the new career she has her sights set on but he may get more than he bargained for. Fake dating, forced proximity, and a myriad of other tropes tossed together in one little literary creation. THIS WEEKS DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Bobbi and Frances have a unique relationship, at the core they are two women in a friendship but they have also dated. What do you think of their relationship? Do you think it is an accurate portrayal of female friendship or do you think it resembles that of ex-lovers?
Is Bobbi’s reaction to Frances story justified or do you think it is an overreaction?

BREAKING NEWS: Tight End for the LA Sharks Derek Pender has recently married his ex girlfriend/sports agent during a drunken fiasco in Las Vegas! The football star, who may or may not return for the season, posted an image of himself with Nora Mackenzi who is his agent after an elopement in Las Vegas. The two seem to be very happy, but reports saying the opposite are flying in! Apparently, Nora is dealing with sexism in the workplace and Derek is unsure if he is going to be replaced by the younger, better version of himself next season! To make things worse, we heard that these two did NOT want to work together. Something about neither being unable to leave something in the past? Well, something must have happened because they are married! Some sources are claiming it is a marriage of convenience and this second chance romance is a fraud, but others say this is the real deal. First, I did not realize this was part of a series so some things, I think are probably answered in the first two books. This isn't like a series, series though so it is okay that I read it and will be if you do too lol. I am absolutely enamored with this book. I am so sad it is over but I cannot wait to read the first two.Anna and Quan are complementary love interests that I don't think we see in romance books. Anna is a quiet, reserved, violinist who is diagnosed early into the book with Autism. She struggles with self expression, so much so that it is impacting her self worth and her ability to preform in any capacity below perfection. After her long term boyfriend tells her he wants to see other people, Anna finds herself meeting Quan. Quan is patient, energetic, and vocal. He doesn't hesitate to express his needs and desires, most of the time. After recently losing a testicle to cancer, Quan is navigating his new found romantic life when he meets Anna. Neither of them were expecting more than a hook up, but after not hooking up, they begin to spend more time with one another quickly straddling the line between a relationship and a failed hookup.I absolutely LOVE Quan. He is so patient with Anna and everything she does and does not want to do. He does not pressure her into doing anything she does not want to do. Not even just sexually, just anything in general. In the ways he does pressure it is to help her overcome her flaws, not to benefit himself. Quan cares very deeply for Anna in such a respectable way. It is a breathe of fresh air for this genre lol. Even when things get hard between them he does what he can to protect her feelings .Anna is a great FMC. She is going through a lot, and the book focuses on her journey with processing her diagnosis, dealing with a terminal parent, navigating hard relationships, and developing self worth. She is easily one of the most relatable characters in a book I have ever read. Her primary struggle is coping with her diagnosis. The diagnosis clicks for her and for once she finally feels seen, but knowing what is wrong and doing something about it is hard when those two things are in opposition. As things get more difficult throughout the story, she eventually reaches a breaking point.Thank you so much for watching this episode! This post is mostly spoiler free -- there is discussion of the romance but it does not reveal how they end up. Courtney got me this book for my birthday last year because she absolutely loved it. I can see why. The male main character, Sawyer, is a fun creative type who is looking to find clarity in the world after abandoning the wedding of his best friend and ex-girlfriend. So, mid wedding, Sawyer leaves the chapel and heads towards the desert, finding himself in Canoodle, CA. Fallon, the female main character, has her hands full. She is taking care of her grandfather who suffers from Alzheimer's, she is renovating the cabins her grandfather owns, and her is struggling with her current relationship with her partner. Things get a whole lot worse for Fallon when the guy who was incredibly rude to her on their first date many years ago strolls into town. Fallon and Sawyer develop a friendship that eventually evolves into romance and when I say EVENTUALLY I mean it because they do not get together until 80% of the way into the book. The book was very long and most of the time is spent getting to know the characters. I think Runaway Groomsman suffer from mislabeling. While this story definitely has the elements of a romance book, romance is not really the main plot of the book. This book focuses a lot on Sawyer's relationship with Sully (Fallon's grandfather) and Fallon's relationship with herself. The character develop is really excellent but I am not sure this entirely counts as a romance book. Regardless, it is worth the read if you have time. I listened to the audiobook and I really enjoyed it in that format.
This week we are discussing the second part of the Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes -- the most recent book in the Hunger Games series and a prequel detailing the life of Coriolanus Snow during the 10th Hunger Games. Coriolanus is a fraud. His once wealthy family are now struggling to stay afloat and with the promise of a scholarship that could change the trajectory of his life, Snow is ready to do what it takes to be the best mentor in the 10th games. After being assigned the girl from the 12th district, Lucy Gray Baird, Snow battles between good and evil. Lucy Gray representing the good in the world and Dr. Gaul, head game maker and a mentor to Snow himself, representing the vile. With Gaul proposing to Snow what do the Hunger Games really mean, Snow is left observing and trying to understand the world he lives in. This book explores the state of nature and seeks to provide more context into who Snow is and why he does what he does in the Hunger Games series. This book, is very long, and because of that we split the episode into 2 parts. This part will focus on everything once the games begin!Thank you so much for watching this episode! REAL OR NOT REAL? This week we read the final book in the original trilogy of The Hunger Games. This is NOT a spoiler free episode so please be cautious. We are also joined once more by Kate who is hosting this episode! Exciting for her! This book is great. It is great conclusion to the series. Throughout this books we are met with sadness, sacrifice, consequence, and optimism that I think really encapsulates the political landscape. The Hunger Games is a modern classic and truly presents some excellent social and political commentary. Anyway...Katniss has survived the 75th Hunger Games and is adjusting, poorly, to life in District 13. The President of District 13, Alma Coin, and the game maker from the 75th games, Plutarch Heavensbee are looking to use Katniss to rally the rebel cause. Despite the hardships of adjusting to 13, Katniss has found a new tool to use, power. With her new found power she leverages the freedom of captured tributes, safety for her family, and being the one to execute President Snow in exchange for preforming the tasks of the Mockingjay. She focuses on her military training and seeks to get her revenge on President Snow while the rest of the country seeks Freedom. Thank you so much for watching this episode! BEST OF SZN!!! ALL STARS!!!! This week we were joined once more by Kate as we discussed the 2nd book in the Hunger Games series: Catching Fire. Throughout this episode we discussed the revolution, those who were the most instrumental in the outcome of the 75th games, and the uncalculated moves of one Coriolanus Snow. I apologize again for the bad audio for the first 25 mins! Plz don't hold it against me. Anyway, Katniss is back from the games and is now trying to cope with the trauma of the 74th games. She rarely talks to Peeta, despite the entire world thinking them star crossed lovers. When President Snow visits and tells her he needs to convince him that her love for Peeta was just that (and not a sign of rebellion) she attempts to continue carefully. After hearing of uprising and rebellion talks throughout the districts, she is instrumental in keeping the system together; however, while on her tour she witnesses the rebellion. To get rid of the unrest, Snow decides to use the 75th games (the quarter quell) to host a BEST OF season. ALLLLL STARRRRS. The 75th games will be composed of one male and female tribute who have won a previous year. Katniss, being the only female tribute from District 12, and Peeta, who volunteers in place of Haymitch, are back in the arena. This time, something is fishy. Being forced to make allies with people like Finnick Odair and Johanna Mason, Katniss and Peeta find themselves in the middle of something more than just the 75th games. Catching Fire will ALWAYS be the best Hunger Games book and deserves high praises. We hope you enjoy this episode and once again I AM SORRY FOR THE AUDIO. Thank you so much for watching this episode! Happy Monday besties! This week we read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. 2023 was the year of the Hunger Games renaissance and we just had to throw ourselves into the mix. The Hunger Games was one of our most favorite books growing and we are so excited to explore this world once more. Maybe we will explore more Dystopian Science Fiction Fantasy in the future. Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12, volunteers to take her sisters place in the Hunger Games, a battle royale style game where one male and one female tribute from each district fight to the death. Katniss is paired up with the male tribute from her district, Peeta Mellark where the two pretend to have a star crossed romance. Through her desire to survive Katniss may just be the person to set off a spark. Thank you so much for watching this episode! Hi! This week we read the well-loved book Normal People! Normal People by Sally Rooney is a story that leaves you with the feeling of melancholy. Connell and Marianne meet in high school and enter into a situationship that takes place over the course of half a decade. As these two grow closer and further away from one another throughout the story, they also endure some personal struggles that impact their self image, self worth, and world view. This book feels so real. It feels like watching their relationship unfold as a long time friend of both people. You feel their pain, you understand their actions on a deep level (most of the time), and it leaves you with so much introspection. It is a really great book and we are excited to discuss it more in detail. Thank you so much for watching this episode! Lauren, the bookkeeper at the Winter Wonderland themed winter park, is a bit of mess. She is quiet, shy, and worst of all madly in love with the owners son. When given the opportunity to create and present an idea to revamp Cold World with Daniel (her bosses son) she jumps! Only, not only was she given the opportunity, so was her work rival Asa Williams. Asa has his own stuff going on; a difficult relationship with his family and feeling stuck working at Cold World where he has been for many years. He is hoping this opportunity will open new avenues for him to potentially explore. The only problem is that Lauren is around. This book is SO cute. Asa is def book boyfriend material. We really enjoyed this book (though we should note we listened to the audio book)! Courtney, who was not a fan of Love in the Time of Serial Killers actually really liked this book, so that is saying something! P.S can this cover designer PLZ make prints, we would eat those up.
