DOCG: Or Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita. The highest classification for Italian wines.
DOC: Denominazione di Origine Controllata. The second highest classification for Italian wines.
IGT: This classification allows Italian winemakers to use grapes and craft styles outside of DOC and DOCG regulations.
Riserva: Italian wines aged for longer than normal.
Classico: Wines from a zone within an Italian region (i.e., Chianti Classico), which is considered the original area of production.

Brut: Dry champagne (most common type).
Brut nature: Extremely dry champagne.

Grand Cru: A French wine (or vineyard where it is produced), of superior quality.
Premier Cru: The second highest grade for French wines, just below Premier Cru. There are more appellations within this grading.
