On May 4th, Wreckers of Romance joined us in the Local Live Lounge for a fabulous session. Around here, we like to call them the Rockers of Romance — and honestly, the costumes alone are swoon-worthy.

On February 23rd, we welcomed Cattle Cult into the Local Live Lounge — and yeah, their sound is as wild as it sounds.

Imagine if Tammy Wynette and Fugazi somehow collided — that’s the entry point. From there, it turns into their own cowpoke–cowfolk–cowpunk thing that completely took over the room.

On February 9, we had a great night in the studio with The Spatulas. Their new single “Flowers” dropped the same week as the session, and they gave us a strong preview of what’s ahead as they gear up for the release of their album A Blue Dot this May.

On 2/2/26 Local Live was proud to welcome Griffy for a truly special session — the first Local Live in our newly renovated studio! It felt especially right to have Griffy help break the room in, given their long and ongoing history with WFHB.

They first performed live on WFHB back in 1993, broadcasting from the old cinder block building by our tower on Radio Ridge, and have returned many times over the years since. This session marked both a new chapter for the studio and a continuation of a relationship that goes way back.

Griffy stripped it down for us, giving us a rare acoustic set and having a wonderful chat with host Nicki Seven. Don’t miss this special session.

Paul Bertsch and his band joined us for Local Live on December 1, 2025, bringing a deep sense of history — and a lot of heart — into the Firehouse. The group first played together at Dunn Meadow back in 1987, and they’ve been making great music together ever since!

Zillafyde tore it up at the Firehouse during their Local Live session on December 15, 2025. The band played songs from their new album Burden, released the very same day as the session — a perfectly timed celebration of the record.

A huge Local Live thanks to El Defe for a really special session on November 4, 2025. After spending two years living in Bloomington and just days before heading back to Uruguay, this performance carried extra weight.

The session closed with “Home Way from Home,” co-written with Ana Grundel, a perfect way to wrap both the set and their time here.

CJ Reichard joined us for Local Live on November 17, 2025 bringing her thoughtful songwriting and calm, grounded presence into the Firehouse. The session offered a great snapshot of her work as a songwriter and performer.

In 2025, CJ released the EP “Pretty Happy as a Pessimist”, along with the single “Gingko In Tokyo,” which dropped on November 19.

Bloomington band Just Penelope joined us for Local Live on November 3,2025 for a session that felt like a real moment of momentum. We heard their debut single “June, July,” and the band delivered the radio premiere of “Be Gentle” on the eve of its release.

Host Nicki Seven chatted with the band about their upcoming show opening for Mini Trees at The Bishop, and why listeners should keep an eye out for their forthcoming EP. There’s a sense that something exciting may be taking shape — and this session offered an early glimpse.

High Street Jack joined us for Local Live on October 20,2025, bringing their modern classic rock sound into the Firehouse. The band describes their music like this: “Imagine if your favorite ’70s rock band had grown up listening to the music of the ’80s and ’90s, as well as everything that came before that. It might sound similar to the Allman Brothers reinterpreting a song written by Guns ’n’ Roses or Pearl Jam.” After hearing this session, that description makes a lot of sense.

Another excellent Local Live is in the books — this time featuring the singular, soft-lit world of Vollmar, who brought super cool music and a deeply chill vibe to the Firehouse on August 11, 2025.

Vollmar is the long-running project of Justin Vollmar, a cornerstone of Bloomington’s DIY and experimental folk scene. His music blends hushed acoustic minimalism with a distinctly intimate, homespun feel — the kind of songwriting that draws you in quietly and stays with you long after. Don’t miss this session!

Lenox Monroe is a singer, songwriter, and story teller who has been involved in playing instruments and competing in vocal performance competitions throughout her youth. Technicolor Band is a rotating-cast group led by David Brown. The focus is long form cross-genre improvisation. The band began as a casual weekly session at Brown’s home studio and has expanded to include live performance over the course of the last year. The group includes Caleb Hickman on Sax, Brendan Keller-Tuberg on upright bass, and Chuck Roldan on drums.Without Whom is the trio of Hazel Benton on electronics/synth, Ben Myers on guitar/menagerie and Joseph Trahan on sax/samples. They have been creating music independently as Stroking Vines (Hazel), Lather (Ben), and Spiral (Joseph), and began meeting in October of this year in anticipation of a December performance. With a variety of backgrounds and talents, the trio’s sound is unconstrained by genre and led by sonic awareness. The Local Live Remote performance will be their first time playing outside of Ben’s basement.
