Judy Van Dyke, Founder of Glory Be Farms, joins the show this week. After suffering the loss of her husband, Judy decided to turn their former farmland into a row of sunflowers. Before she knew it, that row became rows and more flowers until the name Glory Be farms came to her one day while she was working. Jimmy Sharp, co-founder of John Emerald Distillery, joins the show. Sometimes, you just can't let a hobby be a hobby. Hannah Smith, former rider and leadership team member of Pedal the Pacific, joins the show. In 2020, she joined Pedal the Pacific hoping to complete the 1700 mile ride down the West Coast to raise awareness about the fight against sex trafficking before being sidelined by the pandemic. However, along with her teammates, they rode their own paths as Pedal the Pacific went virtual, engaging local communities as they went along. Pedal the Pacific is an organization that uses bikes to begin conversations on sex trafficking and empower the women that ride. Hannah now uses her knowledge to continue to advocate for victims of sex trafficking and the mission of Pedal the Pacific.

Sean Forbes and Jessi Riel of O Grows join the show this week to share about the incredible work being done by the community at the gardens. Started in 2012, O Grows has transformed from an educational program through school gardens in Opelika to a community gardening and education initiative that seeks to address food insecurity in our area. The word localism comes to describe the way in which the gardens provide work, food, and gathering places for local people. Cassie Allen, of Allen Therapy, joins the show this week. Through her counseling practice, Cassie is able to help people to build effective practices to change their narratives on trauma. She does this using EMDR, a practice which incorporates mental, as well as physical, techniques. Trauma does not live just in our mind, but also in our body. So, treatment should follow. Cassie graduated from Auburn University and lived in Panama City before returning to Lee County.

Rosanna Mcginnis, the Library Director of Opelika Public Library, joins the show this week for a discussion on the need for spaces where we can all gather together. The library meets this need as space where we can gather without cost and access thousands fo stories that can open us all to new worlds. After moving with the military for many years, Rosanna ended up in Opelika because of Opelika's size on the map. Ralph Foster, a retired educator and businessman, joins the show this week to share his life full of stories on the evolution of Lee County and Auburn. Mr. Foster has done it all, from opening Auburn's first black barber shop to building both the physical stadium and sports programs of Loachapoka. Dr. Beatrice Allen and Marty Moore, the committee chair of ACT-SO with the NAACP and the founding Executive Director of the Opelika Theatre Company respectfully, join the show this week to share about the upcoming Black History Showcase. Since dreaming the Opelika Theatre Company, Marty has brought to focus many talented artists in the local area. The Opelika Theatre company boasts many performances a year alongside classes that bring the arts to the community. After going to some shows at the South side, Dr. Allen noticed room for diversity in the Theatre Company's work. Coming together, the pair dreamed up the Black History Showcase, a living collage of arts that shares the impact of Black artists on the arts. Now in its 2nd year, the showcase is telling its story once more, with more acts and local artists than before!
