"What Are Your Three" is a podcast for the Channel3.gg community (we call them the "Cr3w" with a "3" instead of an "E," get it?). Each week we will be featuring a member of the Cr3w and discussing three games of their choosing, along with a few other odds and ends. Get to know your fellow gamers and have fun chatting about old favorites, new passions, future releases, and a touch of the ridiculous.

On October 18, 2025 the Nintendo Entertainment System will celebrate its 40th anniversary here in the United States. To commemorate this we assembled a panel of oldies who were there and wanted to tell the tale.
Join Brian McGuinness (AKA laughatbrian), jds140 of Gaming Off the Beaten Path, bitzdad, teets, crtrescue, and dan as they discuss memories, highs, and lows of the iconic system.

About Channel3.gg: channel3.gg is social networking built from the ground up for gamers. Sure you can do all the stuff like on the old social medias like post pictures, videos, comments and the like. Channel 3 is so much more than that though. It takes the social media experience and game-ifies it. Made a great post that someone likes (1-ups) or respawns? You earn XP experience points that level you up. New levels mean chances to win tickets for physical prizes, earn digital flair for your profile, and more. Additionally there are weekly events hosted by Channel 3 that let the community unwind and kick back with a little friendly competition. Sure, you want to win but it's more about hanging out and the vibes. These events are hosted on C3's Twitch Channel and also earn XP for participants. XP can also be earned for completing quests-questions related to games and being a gamer, challenges where you go forth and complete a task in a game, rating & reviewing games and systems, creating specifically themed lists of games and more. You can find Channel 3 in both the Android and Apple App Stores or at c3.gg/app

Dan asked Matt Bozon of WayForward what it was like to get the call that Shantae was going to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Mii Brawler Skin
Check out the full episode wherever you find podcasts or at our home on Spotify
Matt Bozon is a founding member of WayForward, and along with his wife Erin the creator of the Shantae series of games. Matt joins us for what may be a most epic and personal three we will ever see as he takes us through the journey of the first three Shantae games: Shantae, Shantae: Risky Revolution (and through its over two decade delay), and Shantae: Risky's Revenge. Hear tales of the early inception of the series, to its sequel that was locked away until just this year, and the third game that began the trajectory to get Shantae on top of the culture where she is today.
Shantae Advance: Risky's Revolution is still available now on all modern platforms digitally, but is also available for physical pre-order until September 7, 2025 at Limited Run Games. Quests are up today for the game on Channel3.gg as well.
We have every WayForward game in our library at C3 (we think, but hear more about that on the podcast) and of course you can check out WayForward.com

You know Bitmap Books as the purveyor of fine tomes of video game history. Bitmap Books has been a great partner for C3, but more importantly they have documented significant video game history ranging from The Atari and the Commodore 64 all the way up to today. Most recently they released The Games of a Lifetime by Julian "Jaz" Rignall. We chat about the history of Bitmap Books as well as upcoming projects for the year. Beyond that we talk about three games from Sam's personal history to tie the whole thing together: Sensible Soccer, The Secret of Monkey Island, and Cannon Fodder.
Be sure to head to bitmapbooks.com and check out their posts and all of their info at c3.gg/bitmapbooks and c3.gg/bmb

Guy Bareli (A.K.A. Guy Bar'ely) is the Creative Director of BouncyBrain Games, the home of the in-development game Mechanimals. Guy was kind enough to come on and share a very passionate portrait of what BouncyBrain is putting together.
From the MechAnimals Kickstarter:"We are a team of experienced Artists from the feature animation world (Kung Fu Panda, Mario Movie, Minions) that broke lose to make indie games! Our debut title is a Procedural Beat 'Em Up featuring Cute Tiny Animal Mech Pilots. Think Castle Crashers meets Mario 3D world... but with MECHS! Mechanimals feels like it's based on a big-budget Hollywood animated movie but with an edgy tone that would never get approved by the big studios."
We also chat Guy's Three: XCom: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within, Deus Ex, and The Arcade Beat 'em Ups of the 90s.

We head back over the northern border into Canada to talk with calli about their three picks: Mario Kart 64 (and 8), WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2006, and Halo: Combat Evolved. Some may call him nasko0406, many call him grumpytrashplayer, either way you know him as a Rocket League caster extraordinaire (just don't expect much Rocket League chat in this episode). Nasko comes on to talk about a slew of NES games (and a forgotten PS3 monster) and insisted on only discussing them if he had the physical cartridge/disc with him still. The Legend of Zelda, M.A.G. Massive Action Game, and Faxanadu let to some interesting conversation, and a flood of memories returning for Dan.

Grumble, grumble, grumble...it finally happened. darthsmeagol himself used his Channel3.gg prize tickets to redeem the opportunity to pick a podcast guest...and blew it on Dan himself. So here we are. Dan focused on games that his non-gaming wife got involved with so hit on Heavy Rain, The Last of Us, and Rock Band 3. The other usuals are there and Dan also managed to derail this thing a bunch of times, so it is the longest episode we have done to date. Sorry. So sorry.

Also, be warned that this is an M-Rated game, so we are letting the explitives fly with this one, not our normal family friendly format. The explicit content warning is on!

We are heading back into the land of independent game development as we chat with the creatives behind Bodeville, Alexia Mandeville and Bo Boghosian. Alexia (AKA "Flex") and Bo bring experience from massive online games including Niantic's Peridot, Pokémon GO, and Meta's Horizon. Flex and Bo formally started Bodeville in October of 2022 to create truly independent, self-financed studio focusing on narrative games and short-form indie experiences.
Flex and Bo have a new game releasing the day this episode drops (January 17, 2024) called Grift. We talk with them about their endeavors so far with Bodeville, including last year's Chief Emoji Officer, the Steam Demo Watchmakers, and of course Grift.
A description of Grift:
You're a goat, and you're seeking revenge.
In Grift, play as Henry Horns, a goat who's scamming people on social media while trying to find his nemesis, Gwendolyn Goat. Dress up bots and scam your way to the top by unlocking new conversations and new ways to interact with your targets. Maybe you'll discover something new about yourself along the way?
You can find Grift in both the Apple and Google app stores
Grift on Apple
Grift on Google Play
You can also find links to all of Bodeville's games via their C3 page at https://c3.gg/bodeville and of course at https://bodeville.com

Back when we recorded castorgarden's episode way back when, we ended up with a bunch of discussions after the recording "ended" that ended up being too much for a post-credits drop. However, it does make a nice DLC episode to fill in the gap between Christmas and the New Year! Enjoy detours that take us by Childish Gambino, Michael Giacchino, and much, much more. We have new episodes already ready to go for 2024, so we will see you there.

Wait, what?? The whole bit here is that you interview gamers in the Channel3.gg community!
Well, we are trying something special this week. Dan and Rey have been playing a true Indie game called Popcorn Rocket and got to sit down with the main creative force behind the game, Ryan Molina. Ryan has been on the web for years at https://battlegeekplus.com and via their YouTube and other social platforms.
Ryan dove headfirst into nearly the entire creative process by writing, producing, directing his own game in Popcorn Rocket. We deviate from the normal format to spend quite a bit of time talking about Ryan's credentials in gaming and about the game itself.
Ryan was kind enough to take the time to discuss three games with us as well: Dragon Quest X, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Brock the InvestiGator
Check out Popcorn Rocket on Steam and currently in the PlayStation Store (the game is planned to port to Xbox in the future as well). The game is only $4.99 on both platforms and also has a free demo on the Steam Store.

About Channel3.gg: Channel3.gg is a social networking built from the ground up for gamers. Sure you can do all the stuff like on the old social medias like post pictures, videos, comments and the like. Channel 3 is so much more than that though. New levels mean chances to spin the C3 prize wheel, earn digital flair for your profile, and more.

Maybe we should have let Cody have episode 22, but oh well, here we are. A moment here before the usual jargon to recognize Cody's efforts with Cody's Gamers. Give it a Google, it isn't hard to find Cody's efforts paying off for kids in the Greater Boston area. Cody is humble about this, no surprise there, but deserves recognition for this. As he points out during our talk the most important thing he seeks to do beyond helping these kids through tough times is inspire others to do positive things in their community. Thanks for this!
Cody Davis joins us today to talk not about Rocket League, not about Kirby Super Star Time Trials, but about Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, and NFL Gameday 2000. We go through all the usuals after that but Cody wanted to make sure that we had a unique set of games to run through.

Before we get into introducing gongshowdad and talking about his episode, we want to let you know that Tony is a professional therapist and took the opportunity to talk about Mental Health Awareness month. Tony was kind enough to provide some resources including the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and Guardians MH (a group with a specific focus on the gaming community. We created shortcut links to visit both at https://c3.gg/nami and https://c3.gg/guardiansmh. Being that it is National Mental Health Awareness Month now is as good a time as any to make sure that if you need help you know that there are resources available to you. Thanks for speaking on this important issue Tony/gongshowdad!!
Beyond that, Tony does come on to discuss their three: Final Fantasy VII, Halo 3, and Pokémon Red/Blue. We go down the usual honorable mentions, future games, and more gaming discussion.

This is effectively our first direct back to back sequel episode. Ryan Mac AKA mariomaestro has known darthsmeagol from Episode 23 for around three decades and there is some crossover in this episode.
