Pediatric Chiropractic Education for Family-Centered CareWhen you begin preparing for a career in chiropractic, you may not know exactly what kind of practice you want to build. You may start school with a clear direction, or you may discover new interests as you move through the program.
Sherman College gives students the opportunity to explore pediatric and perinatal chiropractic as part of their professional preparation. Through core courses, advanced electives, and specialized clinical track, students learn how chiropractic care can be adapted for pregnant women, infants, and children.
For prospective chiropractic students, this matters because the college you choose will influence the patients you feel prepared to serve after graduation. Sherman’s pediatric and perinatal courses help students build the knowledge, communication skills, and hands-on experience needed to care for families with confidence.
Some students come to Sherman knowing they want to work with children and expectant mothers. Others discover that interest through a course, a faculty mentor, or a clinical experience. Sherman supports both paths.
Why Does Pediatric Chiropractic Education Matter?A family chiropractic practice may include patients at several important stages of life. A chiropractor may care for an expectant mother, continue caring for both mother and baby after birth, and remain part of that family’s care as the child grows.
Each stage brings different considerations. Pregnancy can change pelvic biomechanics, posture, and movement as the baby develops. Infants and children also require specialized approaches that reflect their size, development, movement, and comfort.
Future chiropractors need structured education that prepares them for those differences. They also need experience communicating with parents and caregivers, answering questions clearly, including children in age-appropriate conversations about their care, and creating an environment where families feel welcome.
Sherman’s pediatric chiropractic education is designed to help students develop those skills while remaining grounded in the college’s subluxation-based approach to chiropractic care.
How Does Sherman Prepare Students to Care for Families?Sherman College offers a sequence of pediatric and perinatal courses that build from foundational knowledge to hands-on application and practice preparation.
The core curriculum includes:
Together, these courses introduce students to the clinical, technical, and practical responsibilities involved in caring for pregnant women, infants, and children.
This structure also gives students time to develop their interests. A student may begin with limited exposure to pediatric chiropractic and later decide to pursue advanced coursework and clinical experience in family care.
What Do Students Learn in the Core Pediatric and Perinatal Courses?OBGYN and Pediatric Clinical FoundationsStudents study pregnancy, birth, infancy, childhood, and development. The course also introduces the communication skills needed when working with parents, caregivers, and young patients who may not be able to describe what they are experiencing.
Pediatric and Perinatal AnalysisStudents learn how age, growth, anatomy, movement, and pregnancy affect chiropractic analysis. The course prepares them to evaluate each patient individually and make informed decisions before providing care.
Perinatal and Pediatric AdjustingThis course focuses on adapting positioning, contacts, force, and communication for pregnant women, infants, and children. Students build the precision, confidence, and clinical awareness needed for family-centered chiropractic care.
Pediatric Practice ManagementStudents explore patient education, office systems, community relationships, and practice development. The course also addresses how to create a welcoming, organized environment for children, parents, and pregnant patients.
How Can Students Continue Their Pediatric Chiropractic Education?Students who want additional preparation can choose from:
These electives build on the core curriculum and give students more opportunities to prepare for a pediatric or family-centered practice.
Advanced Pediatric TechniqueThis course helps students refine pediatric analysis and adjusting skills while learning specialized techniques not covered in the core curriculum. The course offers additional hands-on preparation for those who want to work with infants and children.
Perinatal Care and ManagementStudents study chiropractic care during pregnancy, including patient positioning, communication, care planning, and clinical decision-making. The course supports those who want pregnancy care to become part of a broader family practice.
Clinical Pediatric and Perinatal ElectiveStudents apply classroom learning in a supervised clinical setting while developing adjusting, communication, case management, and family-care skills. The experience helps them work more confidently with parents, caregivers, and younger patients.
What Could Family Chiropractic Look Like in Your Future? You may enter chiropractic college with a detailed plan for your future practice, or you may arrive ready to explore the possibilities.
A course may introduce you to an area you had not considered. A conversation with a faculty member may help you recognize a new strength. A clinical experience may show you that caring for pregnant women, infants, and children is a direction you want to pursue.
Family chiropractic offers the opportunity to build lasting relationships and care for families through important stages of life. That work requires technical skill, patience, communication, adaptability, and sound professional judgment.
Sherman’s pediatric and perinatal curriculum gives students the opportunity to begin developing each of those qualities.
Why Consider Sherman for Your Chiropractic Education? The chiropractic college you choose will shape how you understand chiropractic, how you care for patients, and how prepared you feel when you enter practice.
Sherman offers a focused chiropractic education with clear opportunities to study pediatric and perinatal care. The core curriculum gives students an important foundation, while advanced electives allow them to continue developing their interests.
Students are also part of a college community that values mentorship, hands-on learning, and preparation for practice. For those considering family chiropractic, Sherman provides a path from early exploration to advanced clinical experience.
A conversation with Sherman College Admissions can help you understand how these courses fit within the Doctor of Chiropractic program. A campus visit gives you the opportunity to meet the Sherman community, explore the learning environment, and begin picturing the kind of practice you may want to build.
Preparing to Care for FamiliesPediatric and perinatal chiropractic education prepares students to care for pregnant women, infants, and children with the knowledge, adaptability, and confidence those patients require.
At Sherman College, students gain that preparation through core coursework, advanced electives, faculty guidance, and supervised clinical experience.

Spartanburg, S.C. – Forty-two students from across the U.S. and multiple countries received the doctor of chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the college’s 151st commencement ceremony, honoring graduates from the June and September 2026 classes.
“Today marks the culmination of years of hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to a calling greater than yourselves. When you first arrived at Sherman College, you brought your dreams, determination, and a desire to make a difference. Through 14 rigorous quarters, you have developed the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional confidence necessary to serve patients with excellence and compassion,” said Sherman College President Dr. Jack Bourla.
“As you cross this stage and begin your careers as doctors of chiropractic, you become part of a proud Sherman tradition that spans more than five decades and extends around the world. Whether your journey takes you to Spartanburg, your hometown, or a community halfway across the globe, you carry with you the principles, purpose, and passion that define a Sherman graduate. We are honored that you chose Sherman College to prepare you for this profession, and we look forward to the impact you will make in the lives of others. Congratulations, Class of 2026, and welcome to the chiropractic profession.”
Students were recognized throughout the ceremony for academic honors, outstanding service and volunteerism, clinical excellence, and exceptional distinction in philosophy. The commencement speaker was Tim Guest, D.C., Sherman associate professor of clinical sciences, Chiropractic Center case doctor, and associate chair of clinical curriculum.
The student farewell addresses to classmates were given by Elizabeth Erin Travis for the June 2026 class and by Yelena Sokol for the September 2026 class.
The Milton W. Garfunkel Award, Sherman College’s highest graduation honor, recognizes a graduating student who has achieved a minimum 3.5 GPA while exemplifying the values of chiropractic service, leadership, scholarship, and commitment to the profession. Named for Dr. Milton W. Garfunkel—a pioneering New York chiropractor, Sherman College benefactor, Board of Regents member, and champion of chiropractic education—the award honors those who embody the ideals he championed. This year’s recipient, Elizabeth Erin Travis of Arizona, is a first-generation chiropractor, a consistent Dean’s List student, and a dedicated campus leader. Through her service as secretary and president of the Gonstead Club, mentorship of fellow students, involvement in campus events, and community outreach, Travis has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a commitment to serving others. Following graduation, she will begin an associateship in Arizona focused on pediatric and perinatal care and looks forward to marrying her fiancé, Robert Burns, a 2024 Sherman graduate, later this year.
The Academic Achievement Award is given to the individual in each graduating class who maintains the highest GPA throughout their studies at Sherman while completing almost 4,500 hours of graduate study. The recipient for the June class is Kathryn Johnson, who graduated summa cum laude with a 3.88 GPA. The recipient for the September class is Veronica Johnson, who graduated summa cum laude with a 3.99 GPA.
The Service Distinction Award is given at graduation only when a student has made substantial and notable service contributions in three key areas throughout their time at Sherman: the college, the local community, and the chiropractic profession. This award honors individuals who go above and beyond, showing a strong commitment to service and excellence at Sherman. It celebrates their dedication and influence within the academic setting and the wider community. This year’s recipient is a member of the September 2026 class, Aquil Holden.
The Clinical Excellence Award honors interns’ successful practices at the Sherman College Chiropractic Center, the college’s on-campus center. Under the supervision of licensed doctors of chiropractic, student interns care for patients, providing more than 31,000 patient visits per year to local community members. This award is given to an intern in each class who has diligently worked to develop skills in the science, philosophy, and art of chiropractic, maintained, at a minimum, an A average throughout their internship, excelled in all phases of clinical practice from technical skills in the examination and care of patients to showing strong respect and consideration of patients, and encouraging good health practices including lifetime spinal care. The recipients have attended more than the required number of patient visits, cared for their patients with great skill and extraordinary compassion, been exemplary in their concern for patients’ time, and made informing patients of valuable principles an integral part of their practice. The recipients are Elizabeth Erin Travis for the June class and Steven Anders for the September class.
The B.J. Palmer Philosophy Distinction Award is presented only when a student distinguishes themselves in scholarship, leadership, and service to represent chiropractic’s philosophical base to their peers, profession and the public. Recipients demonstrate these areas by winning scholarships and by introducing others to, and helping them better understand, the underlying philosophy and principles of chiropractic, as reflected in their going beyond the curriculum and graduation requirements. Because philosophy provides a foundation that drives chiropractic science and is expressed through the art of adjustment, this award is especially significant when presented to a deserving student. The recipients of this award are, for the June class, Elizabeth Erin Travis and Alexandria Shults, and for the September class, Javier A. Canales-Diaz.
Sherman alumnus, Tim Guest, D.C., delivered the commencement address. A dedicated chiropractor, educator, and longtime advocate for the chiropractic profession, Dr. Guest has nearly four decades of service in clinical practice and chiropractic education. A graduate of Sherman College of Chiropractic, Dr. Guest earned his doctor of chiropractic degree in 1986 and later completed a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Regents University in 2008.
Originally from Cowpens, South Carolina, where he still resides today, Dr. Guest began his chiropractic career as an associate at Sisk Chiropractic in Blacksburg, South Carolina, before opening Guest Chiropractic Center, which he owned and operated from 1991 to 2006. In addition to private practice, he has devoted much of his professional life to chiropractic education, teaching at both Sherman College of Chiropractic and Life University since 1991.
Dr. Guest is a Certified Advanced Clinical Instructor for Activator Methods and is also certified in the Thompson Technique and the Webster protocols. Throughout his career, he has supervised numerous chiropractic interns through Sherman College’s extern program, helping mentor and prepare future generations of chiropractors.
A past president of the Sherman College Alumni Association, Dr. Guest remains deeply committed to advancing the chiropractic profession through education, service, and community involvement. He is an active member of the Palmetto State Chiropractic Association and the Georgia Council on Chiropractic.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Dr. Guest is a devoted husband to his wife, Annette, proud father of two sons, and loving “Tim-Pop” to five grandchildren. He also serves his church as a lay speaker and community volunteer. His guiding philosophy is simple yet powerful: “A body without subluxation is better than a subluxated body.”

The post Forty-Two Complete Doctor of Chiropractic Program at Sherman College appeared first on Sherman College of Chiropractic.
Beyond Graduation: Clarity Creates Confidence in Your Chiropractic CareerMany students consider becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine because they want a healthcare career that sees the whole person.
They may feel drawn to a more natural approach. They may value hands-on care. They may want to help people function better, live well, and experience health beyond symptom management.
Those same interests often lead students to discover chiropractic.
For students exploring the DO path, chiropractic career planning may open the door to a profession that is natural, vitalistic, hands-on, and focused from the beginning. At Sherman College of Chiropractic, students prepare to serve through the location, analysis, and adjustment of vertebral subluxation.
Why Should Future DO Students Consider Chiropractic?Students interested in osteopathic medicine often care about the relationship between structure, function, and health.
That interest has roots in osteopathic history. Osteopathic medicine is described by the American Osteopathic Association as a whole-person approach to care, and DOs are fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine.
Chiropractic shares an appreciation for the body’s ability to function and heal, while offering a distinct professional path with its own focused objective.
At Sherman College, the focus is chiropractic from day one: understanding vertebral subluxation, developing skill in the adjustment, and preparing to serve through a profession built around the body’s innate ability to function.
How Are Osteopathic Medicine and Chiropractic Similar?Osteopathic medicine and chiropractic both attract students who want to serve people through a more complete understanding of the body.
Both traditions recognize that health involves more than isolated symptoms. Both appeal to students who value structure, function, hands-on care, and the body’s ability to heal.
Osteopathic manipulative medicine, also called OMM or OMT, is part of osteopathic medical education and uses manual techniques to address structural and functional issues in the body.
Chiropractic also uses the hands, but with a different professional objective. At Sherman College, the chiropractic adjustment is centered on proper nerve flow and the vertebral subluxation.
How Are the Healthcare Paradigms Different?Osteopathic medicine today largely works within the medical paradigm of diagnosing and treating disease.
DOs serve in hospitals, clinics, primary care offices, and specialty settings. They prescribe medication, order tests, perform procedures within their training and licensure, and care for patients throughout the medical system.
Chiropractic asks a different question: what helps the body function as it was designed to?
At Sherman College, chiropractic education centers on the location, analysis, and correction of vertebral subluxation through the chiropractic adjustment. The adjustment does not treat disease. Its purpose is to correct vertebral subluxation so the nervous system can function without interference and the body’s innate ability can express health more fully.
What If You Want a More Natural and Vitalistic Way to Serve? Some future DO students are drawn to healthcare because they want something more natural, vitalistic, and whole-person.
They may not want a career centered primarily on prescriptions, protocols, and disease management. They may want to study what makes the body well. They may want to serve from the understanding that the body has an innate ability to regulate, adapt, and heal.
Chiropractic offers that path.
At Sherman College, students learn chiropractic from an above-down, inside-out perspective. The chiropractor’s role is not to use drugs to mask symptoms or to treat disease. The role is to locate, analyze, and correct vertebral subluxation so the body can function more fully.
How Can Chiropractic Offer More Professional Freedom? Many DOs work within hospitals, health systems, insurance networks, and corporate medical structures. These settings can provide meaningful careers, but they are often shaped by policies, protocols, productivity expectations, and institutional priorities.
Chiropractic can offer a different kind of professional life.
Many chiropractors own their practices or work in smaller office environments. That can create more freedom to shape the patient experience, build a schedule, serve a community, and practice from the values that matter most to them.
For students who want to serve and build a career around purpose, family, faith, leadership, wellness, or community impact, chiropractic may offer a more aligned path.
Why Choose Sherman College for Chiropractic?Sherman College provides exceptional preparation for the analysis and adjustment of vertebral subluxation, with a principled focus that shapes its education, research, and service. Hands on training starts your very first day of classes.
That clarity gives students a strong foundation. Sherman is not offering a general healthcare degree. It is preparing students for a specific profession with a specific objective.
For students considering a DO path, Sherman offers a place where whole-person thinking, hands-on training, vitalistic philosophy, and professional independence come together in a chiropractic education centered on vertebral subluxation.
How Can Future DO Students Explore the Chiropractic Career Path?
If you are considering osteopathic medicine because you want a natural, whole-person, hands-on profession, take time to explore chiropractic.
Ask yourself what first drew you to the DO path. Was it structure and function? The body’s ability to heal? A more natural view of health? A desire to help people live well?
Those values may fit beautifully within chiropractic.
Connect with Sherman College Admissions and schedule a campus visit. Walk the campus, meet the community, and learn how Sherman prepares future doctors of chiropractic to locate, analyze, and adjust vertebral subluxation.
Your interest in osteopathic medicine may have started with a desire for something hands-on and whole-person. Chiropractic may bring that desire into focus.
FAQCan students considering osteopathic medicine become chiropractors instead?Yes. Students considering osteopathic medicine can explore chiropractic if they are drawn to a hands-on, vitalistic, wellness-centered profession focused on vertebral subluxation and the chiropractic adjustment.
How is chiropractic different from osteopathic medicine?Osteopathic medicine today functions within the medical model of diagnosing and treating disease. Chiropractic is a distinct profession focused on the location, analysis, and adjustment of vertebral subluxation.
Are DOs and MDs similar today? In many settings, yes. DOs and MDs are both fully licensed physicians who may prescribe medications, practice in medical specialties, and work within hospitals and health systems.
Is the chiropractic adjustment the same as osteopathic manipulation? No. Chiropractic adjustment and osteopathic manipulation come from different professional traditions and have different objectives. At Sherman College, the chiropractic adjustment is focused on vertebral subluxation.
Does the chiropractic adjustment treat disease? No. The chiropractic adjustment does not treat disease. Its purpose is to correct vertebral subluxation so the body can function as it was designed to and express its innate ability more fully.
Why might a future DO student choose chiropractic?A future DO student may choose chiropractic because they want a profession centered on hands-on service, vitalistic philosophy, the nervous system, vertebral subluxation, and greater professional independence.
Can chiropractors own their own practices?Yes. Many chiropractors own or operate private practices, giving them the opportunity to shape their office culture, schedule, patient relationships, and community impact.
Why should students considering osteopathic medicine consider Sherman College?Sherman College offers a principled chiropractic education focused on the location, analysis, and adjustment of vertebral subluxation, with hands-on preparation for future doctors of chiropractic.

Chiropractic Career Path: Why Nursing Students and Nurses Make Great ChiropractorsNursing students and nurses often enter healthcare for the same reason many future chiropractors do: they want to serve.
They want to help people feel cared for. They want to support families, strengthen communities, and contribute to a healthier world. Those qualities are not only valuable in nursing. They are also powerful foundations for chiropractic.
At Sherman College of Chiropractic, students prepare to become doctors of chiropractic through a focused education in the location, analysis, and correction of vertebral subluxation through the chiropractic adjustment. For nursing students and nurses who feel called to help people but want a more independent, principled, and wellness-centered path, chiropractic may be a natural next step.
Why Do Nursing Students and Nurses Make Great Chiropractors?Nursing students and nurses already understand that healthcare is personal.
They know how to listen. They know how to communicate with people who may be nervous, overwhelmed, or searching for answers. They understand trust, consistency, compassion, and the responsibility that comes with caring for another person.
Those strengths translate beautifully into chiropractic.
A chiropractor does more than perform a technical skill. A chiropractor serves people, educates patients, builds relationships, and helps individuals and families understand the body’s innate ability to function. Nursing students and nurses often bring a patient-centered mindset that can help them thrive in that role.
How Are Nursing and Chiropractic Similar?Nursing and chiropractic both attract people with a heart for service.
Both professions require compassion, discipline, communication, and a desire to improve lives. Both allow you to support individuals and families as they pursue health and wellness.
The shared desire is service, but the daily work looks different.
Nurses often serve inside hospitals, clinics, and larger healthcare systems. Their work is essential, but it is frequently shaped by policy, protocols, staffing demands, and decisions made within a corporate or institutional structure.
Chiropractors often serve through private practice. Many doctors of chiropractic own their offices, shape the patient experience, and build a practice around the values that mean the most to them.
How are the Healthcare Paradigms Different?Nursing works within the medical paradigm, which is centered on the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
That work has an important place. Nurses care for people in serious and complex situations, often within systems designed to respond to illness, manage symptoms, and support medical treatment plans.
Chiropractic asks a different question: what helps the body function well?
At Sherman College, chiropractic education centers on the location, analysis, and correction of vertebral subluxation through the chiropractic adjustment. The adjustment does not treat disease. Its purpose is to correct vertebral subluxation so the body can function as it was designed to, allowing its innate ability to express health more fully.
For nursing students who are drawn to healthcare but want to study what supports life, function, and wellness from an above-down, inside-out perspective, chiropractic offers a distinct professional path.
What If You Want a More Natural and Vitalistic Way to Serve? Some nursing students and nurses feel drawn to healthcare, but not always to the model they see around them.
They want to help people live well, not only respond when something goes wrong. They want a more natural, whole-person, vitalistic approach to care. They want to ask better questions about function, adaptability, and the body’s ability to heal, rather than relying only on approaches that manage or mask symptoms.
Chiropractic offers that path.
At Sherman College, chiropractic is grounded in the understanding that the body is designed with an innate ability to regulate, adapt, and heal. The chiropractor’s role is not to diagnose and treat disease with drugs. It is to locate, analyze, and correct vertebral subluxation through the chiropractic adjustment, allowing the nervous system to function without interference.
For nurses who believe health should be understood from the inside out, chiropractic can feel like coming home. It gives service-minded healthcare professionals a way to care for people through a principled, natural, and vitalistic profession focused on function, life, and the body’s innate ability to express health.
Why Choose Sherman College for Chiropractic?Sherman College provides exceptional preparation for the location, analysis, and adjustment of vertebral subluxation.
That focus gives students clarity from the beginning. Sherman is not offering a general healthcare path. It is preparing students for a specific profession with a specific objective.
For nursing students and nurses, Sherman offers a place where compassion can become calling, and patient-centered experience can grow into a doctor-level career. Students study chiropractic philosophy, science, and art in a community committed to principled chiropractic and hands-on preparation.
What Should Students Know About Funding?Students considering chiropractic should speak directly with Sherman College Financial Aid about current funding options and eligibility.
Federal loan rules are changing under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act beginning July 1, 2026. Under the new framework, graduate professional programs may have higher federal loan limits than graduate non-professional programs.
Sherman College also participates in federal and institutional aid, and qualified veterans may be eligible for GI Bill® benefits and Yellow Ribbon Program support through Sherman.
How Can Nurses and Nursing Students Explore the Chiropractic Career Path?If you are a nursing student or nurse, your desire to serve is already clear.
The question is whether chiropractic may give that desire a new direction.
You may already have the compassion, communication skills, discipline, and patient-centered mindset that can help you thrive as a chiropractor. Now is the time to explore whether Sherman College can help you turn those strengths into a career of principled service, professional independence, and community impact.
Connect with Sherman College Admissions and schedule a campus visit. Walk the campus, meet the community, and learn how Sherman prepares future doctors of chiropractic to locate, analyze, and adjust vertebral subluxation.
Your heart for service brought you to healthcare. It may also lead you to chiropractic.

Chiropractic Referral Program: How ROAR Inspires Future ChiropractorsMany future chiropractors begin their journey because someone helped them see the possibility.
A chiropractor recognized their potential. A family member encouraged them to explore the profession. A doctor invited them to learn more about Sherman College of Chiropractic.
Sherman College’s ROAR program gives those moments purpose.
ROAR, which stands for Reach Out And Recruit, is Sherman College’s chiropractic referral program. It equips chiropractic advocates to inspire, engage, and recruit future doctors of chiropractic by sharing the chiropractic message and connecting prospective students with Sherman College.
For students and families, ROAR can be a trusted first step into the profession. For chiropractors and advocates, it is a meaningful way to help shape the future of principled chiropractic.
What Is Sherman College’s ROAR Program?Sherman College’s ROAR program recognizes and supports members who actively contribute to student recruitment and the growth of the chiropractic profession. ROAR members represent Sherman College in their communities and connect the college with prospective students and families.
ROAR is built around action. Members share chiropractic, identify students who may be called to the profession, and refer those students to Sherman College.
Sherman College is known for its clear focus on the location, analysis, and adjustment of vertebral subluxation. ROAR helps introduce future students to that mission through doctors and advocates who understand the value of principled chiropractic education.
Why Do ROAR Members Refer Students to Sherman College? Many ROAR members are Sherman College graduates, but many are not.
Some ROAR members graduated from other chiropractic colleges and still choose to refer students to Sherman. Their support comes from confidence in Sherman’s principled chiropractic education and the kind of doctors Sherman is preparing.
These chiropractors value an education centered on vertebral subluxation, hands-on preparation, and a clear chiropractic purpose from the beginning of the student journey.
When a chiropractor refers a student to Sherman instead of their own alma mater, it speaks to Sherman’s role in the profession. ROAR is more than an alumni effort. It is a chiropractic advocacy program for people who believe future doctors should be prepared with philosophy, skill, and service in mind.
How Does ROAR Support Future Students?A chiropractic referral program helps students move from curiosity to clarity.
Prospective students often wonder what chiropractors do, what makes chiropractic distinct, why Sherman focuses on vertebral subluxation, and whether the profession fits their values.
ROAR members help students begin answering those questions through real conversations and personal connections. Some students may also have the opportunity to shadow a ROAR doctor and see chiropractic in practice.
Many ROAR doctors enjoy welcoming prospective students into their offices. Shadowing can help students observe how a doctor communicates chiropractic, serves families, leads a practice, and keeps the adjustment central to care.

How Does ROAR Support Enrollment at Sherman College?ROAR supports enrollment by connecting prospective students with Sherman College through trusted chiropractic advocates.
A student referred through ROAR may already understand Sherman’s mission, the importance of vertebral subluxation, and the value of hands-on chiropractic education. That creates a stronger starting point for an admissions conversation.
ROAR members may encourage students to request information, speak with Admissions, visit campus, attend recruitment events, apply to the Doctor of Chiropractic program, and list their ROAR referrer on the application.
The ROAR tier system reflects the program’s recruitment purpose, including student referrals, Showcase Sherman Weekend participation, and student recruitment events hosted in offices or alongside Sherman recruiters.
What Scholarship Is Available for ROAR-Referred Students?Students exploring chiropractic can begin by connecting with someone who understands the profession. Ask why they became a chiropractor, what principled chiropractic means, and why they recommend Sherman College.
Students who would like to connect with a ROAR member in their area can email Dr. Russell Goff at rggoff@sherman.edu.
Prospective students should also connect with Sherman College Admissions and schedule a campus visit to experience the community, learn about the Doctor of Chiropractic program, and see how Sherman prepares students for the location, analysis, and adjustment of vertebral subluxation.
Chiropractors, alumni, and chiropractic advocates can help shape the future of the profession by joining ROAR. Sherman College provides orientation, recruitment materials, reference resources, and ongoing communication to help members represent the college professionally.
Sign up for ROAR today, or share Sherman College’s ROAR link with your chiropractor and invite them to help inspire, engage, and recruit future doctors of chiropractic.

SPARTANBURG, S.C.— June 15, 2026 — Sherman College of Chiropractic and Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) have signed an articulation agreement establishing a streamlined pathway for students pursuing careers in chiropractic. The agreement guarantees admission to Sherman College’s Doctor of Chiropractic program for qualified SMC graduates who complete the designated pre-chiropractic curriculum and meet established admission requirements.
The new pathway complements Spartanburg Methodist College’s first Bachelor of Science degree program in exercise science, launching in fall 2026. Through the program’s pre-chiropractic elective track, students will build a strong foundation in exercise physiology, kinesiology, and related sciences while preparing for admission to Sherman’s Doctor of Chiropractic program.
“As Spartanburg Methodist College launches its first Bachelor of Science degree program, this partnership offers an exciting opportunity for students interested in pursuing chiropractic as a profession,” said Dr. Jack Bourla, president of Sherman College of Chiropractic. “Together, we’re providing a clear academic pathway that enables students to transition seamlessly from undergraduate study into a doctoral program. We are proud to partner with a fellow Spartanburg institution to help students achieve their educational and professional goals while advancing the future of chiropractic.”
“The objective of higher education is to develop students and provide them with the skills for better career prospects when they graduate. Partnerships like this help remove barriers to that growth and clear the path for brighter futures,” said Scott Cochran, president of Spartanburg Methodist College. “We’re excited to be working with Sherman College to make it easier for our graduates who choose to continue directly into their chiropractic program.”
Under the agreement, students must successfully complete the courses required to earn a Bachelor of Science in exercise science (pre-chiropractic elective track) from SMC’s department of exercise science. Students must also maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application and earn no grade below a “C” in prerequisite coursework outlined in Sherman’s academic catalog. Additionally, students may be granted tentative acceptance to Sherman upon completion of at least 45 semester hours of credit, with full approval granted upon receipt of a final transcript and verification of all admission requirements
The agreement was signed by Sherman’s President, Dr. Jack Bourla, and Provost, Dr. Joseph J. Donofrio, along with SMC’s President Scott Cochran and Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Curt Laird.
The partnership reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to student success, academic excellence, and the expansion of educational opportunities for students pursuing careers in healthcare.

Moving to Spartanburg for Chiropractic School: Why the Upstate Makes Life Outside the Classroom BetterChoosing a chiropractic college is about more than academics.Prospective students should be asking the big questions. Will I graduate ready to adjust the spine with confidence? Will this program prepare me for practice? Will I have the support I need to succeed? Those questions belong at the center of any serious college search.
But there is another question worth asking alongside them: What will life look like when I step away from class?
Chiropractic school is demanding. The place where you live shapes more than your commute or your weekend plans. It shapes your routine, your pace, and the ways you reset when the week has taken a lot out of you. For students considering Sherman College, one of Spartanburg’s real advantages is its place in the Upstate of South Carolina. Living here means more than having access to local parks and trails. It means being based in a region that gives students room to breathe during the week and real options for getting away on the weekend, whether that means heading toward the Blue Ridge Mountains, exploring the South Carolina Lowcountry, or planning a beach trip in the Carolinas or Georgia.
Livability recently highlighted the appeal of outdoor life in South Carolina. Here, we’re looking at that idea through a more specific lens: what it means for a prospective Sherman College student to live in the Upstate.
What makes living in the Upstate of South Carolina an advantage during chiropractic school?Students in a demanding professional program need ways to clear their heads.
That does not always entail a long trip or a perfectly planned weekend. Often, it means a walk after class, a Saturday morning outside, or the ability to head somewhere different when the week has taken a lot out of you. The Upstate makes that easier. Spartanburg gives students a place to stay focused during the week while remaining close to the kinds of destinations that make a quick reset feel possible.
That is part of what makes this region so appealing. You are not choosing between serious study and quality of life. The geography helps support both.
What makes Spartanburg a strong home base for students? The appeal of Spartanburg is not only the city itself. It is also what the city connects you to.
For Sherman students, Spartanburg works well as a home base because it offers day-to-day livability while placing much of the Southeast within reach. The Upstate gives students access to local trails, parks, and outdoor spaces, but it also opens the door to mountain towns, lake weekends, and longer trips that still feel manageable during a busy academic season.
That matters because location is only useful when it fits real life. Spartanburg does.
How does the Upstate make weekend trips easier? One of the Upstate’s biggest strengths is proximity.
From Spartanburg, students are well positioned for different kinds of weekends. They can head north toward the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, look south and east toward the South Carolina Lowcountry, or plan beach trips in South Carolina, North Carolina, or Georgia. That range of opportunities gives students options without making every break from school feel like a major undertaking.
For prospective students, that matters more than it may seem at first. A place becomes easier to live in when a change of scenery feels realistic.
Why does regional proximity shape the student experience?Access sounds good in theory. Proximity is what turns it into part of real life.
A region can have beautiful destinations, but if they are too far removed from everyday routines, students are less likely to take advantage of them. The Upstate works because it places students in a part of the Southeast where different landscapes and weekend plans feel genuinely reachable.
Over time, that can shape the student experience in quiet but important ways. It gives students a way to step away, reset, and come back with a clearer head.
Can outdoor access improve the student experience? It can.
Students do not need every week to feel easy. They do need a place where life outside the classroom helps restore some balance. Sometimes that comes from community. Sometimes it comes from routine. And sometimes it comes from being in a region where getting outside, getting away, or changing your pace is not difficult.
For students considering Sherman College, that is part of Spartanburg’s appeal. The city offers a focused place to study, while the broader Upstate gives students room to breathe. Together, those things can make the experience of chiropractic school feel more grounded.
Can you picture building that kind of routine here? That may be the question underneath all the others.
Can you picture yourself studying during the week, then heading for the mountains, the coast, or a nearby trail when you need a reset? Can you imagine living in a place where a change of scenery feels easy enough to become part of your life, not just something you hope to do once in a while?
A college decision is never only about curriculum. It is also about whether the setting around that curriculum supports the kind of life you want to build while you are in school. For many students considering Sherman College, Spartanburg stands out not just because of the campus, but because of where it is located. The Upstate of South Carolina gives students a strong place to live during the week and meaningful access to the mountains, the coast, and the broader region when they need a break from routine.
The best way to know is to visit. Spend time on campus. Attend Showcase Sherman. Explore Spartanburg. Get a feel for the region and what everyday life might look like here. Choosing a chiropractic college is a major decision. It helps when you can picture not only where you will study, but how you will live.
For readers who want a broader look at outdoor life in the region, Livability’s feature helped inspire this article and is worth exploring as a companion piece.
FAQWhy does moving to Spartanburg for chiropractic school appeal to students who enjoy getting outside?Because Spartanburg gives students more than local outdoor access. Its location in the Upstate makes it easier to build fresh air, movement, and weekend travel into everyday life.
Why is the Upstate of South Carolina a good region for weekend trips during chiropractic school?Because the Upstate places students within reach of a wide variety of destinations. From Spartanburg, it is easier to plan weekends in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the South Carolina Lowcountry, or beach communities in the Carolinas and Georgia.
Does Spartanburg have outdoor spaces nearby?Yes. Students have access to parks, trails, and outdoor areas in and around Spartanburg, along with easy access to the broader Upstate.
How does regional proximity help during chiropractic school? It makes it easier to step away, reset, and return with a clearer head. When mountain towns, trails, beaches, and weekend destinations feel reachable, students are more likely to make use of them.
What makes the Upstate appealing for Sherman students? The Upstate offers a strong combination of livability and regional access. Students can stay focused in Spartanburg during the week while remaining close to a wide range of places worth exploring.
Is moving to Spartanburg for chiropractic school only about academics? No. Academics should lead the decision, but the surrounding environment matters too. Students are choosing a place to live for several important years, and quality of life plays a real role in that experience.
Should I visit Sherman College before deciding?Yes. Visiting helps you evaluate both the college and the region around it, which usually gives you a much clearer sense of fit.

Spartanburg, S.C. —Thirty-three interns are now ready to serve their community and see patients at the Sherman College Chiropractic Center, a teaching clinic for students in the final stage of their internship before graduation from Sherman’s doctor of chiropractic program.
Interns celebrated the start of the final phase of their chiropractic education at a pinning ceremony on April 10 at the Sherman campus in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The newly pinned class of interns joining the Chiropractic Center includes the following:
Under the guidance of licensed doctors of chiropractic, the teaching environment at the Chiropractic Center enables interns to practice chiropractic under close supervision and ongoing consultation with these case doctors. At the same time, the Chiropractic Center serves residents of Upstate South Carolina by offering high-quality chiropractic care, with approximately 30,000 patient visits annually.
In Sherman’s clinical phase of the doctor of chiropractic program, interns practice every aspect of patient care, including case histories, physical and spinal examinations, x-rays, diagnosis, reports of findings, chiropractic adjustments, and case management. Interns are encouraged to collaborate with Sherman’s research department to advance the profession through evidence-based studies and to complete the remaining clinical and business courses before graduation.
The internship also allows students to participate in community events, both in the Chiropractic Center and in the community – including spinal screenings, health fairs, school visits, and more – to help them build communication, leadership and community relations skills so they will be well prepared when they begin practicing as a doctor of chiropractic.

Moving to Spartanburg for Chiropractic School: What Life Can Look Like at ShermanChoosing a chiropractic college means choosing more than a campus.
Prospective students want answers to the questions that matter most. Will I graduate ready to adjust the spine with confidence? Will this program prepare me for practice? Will I have the support I need to succeed? Those are the right questions to ask, and they should shape any serious college decision.
But there is another question worth asking just as early: What kind of life can I build while I’m in school?
Chiropractic school is demanding. The city around you becomes part of the experience, shaping your routines, your friendships, your weekends, and your sense of whether you are simply getting through school or truly growing during it. For students considering Sherman College, Spartanburg is worth looking at through exactly that lens.
Livability recently explored why residents enjoy living in Spartanburg. Here, we’re looking at the city more specifically through the eyes of a prospective Sherman College student.
Why does community matter when you’re choosing a chiropractic college?A city can feel like a temporary stop, or it can feel like somewhere you can settle in. That difference matters more than many students expect.
One of Spartanburg’s strengths is that it has real energy without feeling overwhelming. There is a young professional presence here, along with a community that feels welcoming, varied, and increasingly dynamic. For students moving for graduate school, that matters. You are not just looking for a place to take classes. You are looking for a place where life off campus feels real.
For Sherman students, that can make a meaningful difference. It is easier to stay grounded when the city around you feels active, connected, and culturally alive. Spartanburg feels like a place that is growing while still holding onto its identity.
Can you afford to live well while you’re in school?Affordability may not be the most exciting part of choosing a college town, but it is one of the most practical.
Students are not only choosing an education. They are choosing rent, groceries, gas, weekends, and the everyday cost of building a life. Compared with several markets with chiropractic colleges, Spartanburg can offer a more manageable cost of living, especially when measured against places like Marietta, Port Orange, and San Jose. That kind of difference matters during a doctoral program.
A more manageable rental market gives students breathing room. It can make the overall experience of chiropractic school feel steadier, less strained, and more sustainable over time.
Why does regional access matter during chiropractic school?Students do not spend all of their time in one place. Chiropractic school includes seminars, weekends away, visits home, professional events, and the occasional need to step off campus and reset.
That is one reason Spartanburg’s location stands out. It places students within reach of major regional cities like Charlotte, Atlanta, and Nashville, making it easier to attend chiropractic events, stay connected to the profession, and take advantage of opportunities across the Southeast.
The region also makes recreation easy. From Spartanburg, students are within a few hours of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Smoky Mountains, and beach destinations in South Carolina and Georgia. That kind of access matters during a demanding season of life. Sometimes what helps most is knowing you can get away for a weekend and come back refreshed.
What makes Spartanburg appealing to young professionals?Spartanburg is not the kind of place that revolves around just one stage of life. Students, young professionals, families, and longtime residents all seem to have a place here, which gives the city a broader and more lived-in feel.
There is young professional energy here, and it just feels natural. You can sense it in the downtown, in the local businesses, in the evolving food scene, and in the fact that people are actively choosing to build lives here. That gives the city a sense of momentum.
For a prospective Sherman student, that matters. You are not only asking whether you can handle the coursework. You are also asking whether the city around you supports the kind of adult life you are stepping into. Spartanburg answers that question well.
Is Spartanburg a good city for students who love food?It is, and that is not a small thing.
A demanding academic schedule feels different when the city around you has places worth meeting a friend for dinner, grabbing coffee after class, or taking visiting family on a Friday night. Student life is not shaped only by what happens in the classroom. It is also shaped by the places that help you relax, reconnect, and enjoy where you live.
Downtown Spartanburg has become one of the city’s strongest selling points in that respect. The food scene gives the area texture and personality. It makes life outside the classroom feel enjoyable rather than incidental.
Can you picture building a life here while you’re in school? That may be the real question underneath all the others.
A college decision is never only about curriculum. It is also about whether the setting around that curriculum supports the kind of growth the next few years will require. Sherman College attracts students who are serious about chiropractic and serious about their future. Spartanburg complements that experience by offering a city that feels livable, connected, and increasingly vibrant.
For some students, the biggest surprise is not just that Spartanburg works. It is that it starts to feel like a place they can actually see themselves living.
The best way to know is to visit. Spend time on campus. Drive through the area. Walk downtown. Get a feel for the pace of the city and the kind of life it makes possible. Choosing a chiropractic college is a major decision. It helps when you can picture not only where you will study, but where you will live.
For readers who want a broader local perspective, Livability’s feature on why residents enjoy living in Spartanburg is a helpful companion read.
FAQ Why does moving to Spartanburg for chiropractic school appeal to prospective students?Because students are not only choosing a program. They are choosing a place to live for several important years. Spartanburg offers a strong mix of community, regional access, affordability, and lifestyle.
Is Spartanburg affordable compared with other chiropractic college towns?Compared with several well-known markets tied to chiropractic programs, it can be a more manageable option, especially when compared with larger and more expensive metro areas.
What makes Spartanburg attractive to young professionals? The city has a collaborative feel, an active downtown, and a growing mix of food, culture, and local energy that helps it feel like more than just a place to pass through.
Is it easy to travel from Spartanburg to chiropractic events in the Southeast?Yes. Spartanburg’s location makes it easier to reach major regional hubs like Charlotte, Atlanta, and Nashville, while also offering convenient access to mountain and beach destinations.
Does Spartanburg have enough to do outside of class?Yes. Students have access to a growing downtown, a strong restaurant scene, local events, and outdoor opportunities across the region.
Why does the food scene matter for student life?Because quality of life matters during a demanding program. Good places to eat, meet friends, and enjoy the city help make student life feel more balanced and more sustainable.
Should I visit Sherman College and Spartanburg before making a decision?Yes. Visiting helps you evaluate both the educational environment and the community around it, which usually gives you a much clearer sense of fit.

Sherman College of Chiropractic is proud to announce the establishment of a new endowed scholarship created to support students excelling as interns in the college’s Chiropractic Center. The post Armand Rossi, D.C., L.C.P., D.Ph.CS Receives the Sherman College Service to the Profession Award appeared first on Sherman College of Chiropractic.
Forty-two students from across the U.S. received the doctor of chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the college’s 147th commencement for June and September 2024 graduates.
“Congratulations to our most recent Sherman graduates on your Doctor of Chiropractic degrees! Your hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence have prepared you to make a significant impact in the field of chiropractic care,” said Sherman President Dr. Jack Bourla. “As you embark on your professional journeys, you carry Sherman’s proud 50-year legacy with you. We are confident that you will continue to uphold the highest standards of our profession and inspire positive change in the well-being of your communities. Know that when you leave here, you are ready. You have proven yourselves to be worthy of doctors of chiropractic, and we could not be more proud of you.”
Many students were recognized throughout the ceremony for academic honors, outstanding service and volunteerism, clinical excellence, and exceptional philosophy distinction. Edgardo Rivera, M.D., a beloved professor and Sherman’s Anatomy Lab Manager, gave a heartfelt commencement address to students and expressed gratitude to the college for extraordinary opportunities throughout his Sherman tenure.
The 2024 student farewell address to classmates was given by Benjamin McBurney of Illinois (June) and Ashley Lake of South Carolina (Sept.).
Recipients of the Academic Achievement Award were Benjamin McBurney (June), graduating magna cum laude with a 3.758 GBA, and Eliza Lamb (September), graduating summa cum laude with a 3.964 GPA. This award is given to the individual in each graduating class who maintains the highest grade point average throughout his or her studies at Sherman College.
The Service Distinction Award is presented at graduations only when a student has made significant and distinguished service contributions in three key areas throughout the course of their studies at Sherman: the college, the local community, and the chiropractic profession. This award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond and demonstrate a commitment to service and excellence at Sherman. It is a testament to their dedication and impact within both the academic environment and the broader community. Bryan Vega Cordero of Puerto Rico received the 2024 Service Distinction Award.
The Clinical Excellence Award is presented in recognition of successful practices by interns in the Sherman College Chiropractic Health Center. The college’s on-campus chiropractic health center is where Sherman interns, under the supervision of licensed doctors of chiropractic, attend to their patients, providing more than 30,000 patient visits to members of the local community. This Clinical Excellence Award is given to an intern in each class who has diligently worked to develop skills in the art, science and philosophy of chiropractic, maintained, at a minimum, an A average throughout his/her internship, excelled in all phases of clinical practice from technical skills in the examination and care of patients to showing strong respect and consideration of patients, and encouraging good health practices including lifetime spinal examinations. The recipients have attended more than the required number of patients, cared for them with great skill and extraordinary compassion, have been exemplary in his/her concern for patients’ time, and have made informing patients of valuable principles an integral part of his/her practice. The 2024 recipients were Gabriel Matos Rivera (June) and Ashley Lake (Sept.).
The B.J. Palmer Philosophy Distinction Award is presented only when a student distinguishes his or herself in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and service with regard to representing chiropractic’s philosophical base to his or her peers, profession and the public. Recipients demonstrate these areas by winning scholarships and introducing and helping others to better understand the underlying philosophy and principles of chiropractic, which is reflected by going beyond the curriculum and graduation requirements. Because philosophy provides a foundation that drives chiropractic science and is expressed through the art of the adjustment, this award is especially significant when presented to a deserving student. The 2024 B.J. Palmer Philosophy Distinction Award was presented to Ashley Lake (Sept.).
The commencement address was given by Edgardo Rivera, M.D. Sherman College’s Anatomy Lab Manager since 2015. In this capacity, Dr. Rivera worked closely with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine’s Body Donation Program to maintain the college’s highly regarded anatomy/cadaver lab to support instructors’ needs and comply with all necessary licensing, policies, and laws. Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Rivera received his pre-medical education at Catholic University in Ponce and his medical doctorate from Veracruzana University in Veracruz, Mexico. Since then, Dr. Rivera completed an internship at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in the open heart medical center and has held leadership positions, including working with the Secretary of Health for Puerto Rico as his special assistant, serving as the director of ambulatory clinics at Oncology Hospital at Puerto Rico Medical Center, and working as Pfizer’s country director for Puerto Rico and Miami, Florida. Throughout his career, Dr. Rivera has also been a professor teaching human anatomy and human physiology, medical terminology, working as an anatomist, and assisting with work-study students interested in becoming laboratory prossectors. He is passionate about his work and believes educating the community is the best way to promote chiropractic. Dr. Rivera has been married for 47 years to Myrna O. Torres, who is now retired after a career as a bank manager. They have three sons and four grandchildren, ages 4–17. All of their family live in Puerto Rico. Dr. Rivera expresses deep gratitude for the opportunities Sherman College has given him. He is retiring at the end of the Spring quarter following Sherman’s graduation ceremony.

Thom and Betty Gelardi to campus on Thursday, March 21, 2024, for a surprise ribbon cutting of the “Drs. Thom and Betty Gelardi Think Tank,” a dedicated office space exclusively for the Gelardi’s use. The Drs. Gelardi had the honor of cutting the ribbon for their new space, and they were also presented with official Sherman ID badges. A spring floral bouquet was presented to Dr. Betty. “We want to express to both of you how much we appreciate all the things you did and have been doing for chiropractic, and especially for Sherman College. We want you to have a home while you’re here, so we have created the Dr. Thom and Betty Gelardi Think Tank. This is your space to come whenever you’re here.”

Dr. Allie Hamstead, a chiropractor and co-owner of AlignLife of Simpsonville, published a paper in the Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research in the January 2024 issue. The quarterly publication highlights chiropractic research focused on vertebral subluxation. The magazine exists to educate the public and serve the chiropractic profession.
Dr. Allie’s paper, “Reduction of Upper Back Pain & Resolution of Sciatica Following Chiropractic Care to Reduce Vertebral Subluxation in a 30-Year-Old Female with Scoliosis: A Case Study” is about reducing upper back pain and improving sciatica following chiropractic care in a female patient with scoliosis.
“This patient had been suffering from pain and sciatica for years, and it was a joy to see the power of specific chiropractic care and how it had such a positive impact on her,” said Dr. Allie. “Many individuals with health issues such as scoliosis are not sure if they will be able to be cared for by a chiropractor. I am hopeful that this case study helps to encourage those who may be afraid to see their local chiropractor,” said Dr. Allie.
Drs. Allie and Michael are alumni of Sherman College of Chiropractic, as is their colleague, Dr. Lauren Hufham, and Dr. Allie is also an assistant professor of clinical sciences at Sherman College of Chiropractic.
Founder and owner of AlignLife, of which there are thirty-three centers across the country, Dr. Joe Esposito, said he was delighted that Dr. Allie’s paper had received such recognition. “Dr. Allie is a testament to the AlignLife philosophy that we can continue to improve our knowledge and skills to benefit our patients, their families, and the community, no matter how many years we have practiced chiropractic. At AlignLife, we want to learn, grow, and teach so that everyone, anywhere, can live their healthiest life,” said Dr. Joe.
Dr. Allie, 37, and her partner and husband, Dr. Michael Hamstead, 38, launched AlignLife of Simpsonville in 2014. They have four children.

Once you become interested in Sherman College of Chiropractic, you are paired with an admissions counselor almost instantly. It is important to build a good relationship with your counselor, as they will be your main point of contact and will ultimately guide you to becoming a student in our doctor of chiropractic program.
You counselor is here to:
Meet our admissions counselors down below.
###### Jacob Harris, B.S.
Director of Admissions
Where are you from, and how long have you lived in the Upstate?
I am a native son of Boiling Springs, SC!
What first drew you to Sherman College of Chiropractic?
I had been working as an Admissions Counselor at another university and was ready for a change. I have driven past this school countless times in my life, they had a position open in the Admissions Office, and the rest is history!
How long have you been an admissions counselor at Sherman College?
I have been employed with Sherman College since July 2018
What about chiropractic do you find most interesting?
I’ve enjoyed learning how adjustments affect different areas of the body and learning about the innate intelligence the body has to heal itself.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Easy, our STUDENTS! I also love the warmth, hospitality, camaraderie, and collaboration that exists on campus.
What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective students?
Do your research. Be sure to visit different schools. Find a place where you can grow and become the best version of yourself. This is an investment in time and money. Not all chiropractic schools are the same!
What is something interesting about you?
I am a database for useless knowledge: songs, movies, sports, pop culture, you name it!
What is your favorite local restaurant?
Miyako Sushi Group. Who doesn’t love sushi?
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Relaxing by a body of water, listening to music, or watching sports on the couch.
###### Will Tucker, B.B.A.
Senior Admissions Counselor
Where are you from, and how long have you lived in the Upstate?
I am from Demopolis, AL, and I have been living in the Upstate for 4 and a half years.
What first drew you to Sherman College of Chiropractic?
At first, it was the community feel that I got from everyone on campus. It really seemed like everyone constantly rallied around one another to help reach a common goal. Also, I went to a small undergraduate college so the small feel of Sherman really felt like home to me.
How long have you been an admissions counselor at Sherman College?
I have been with Sherman for just over 4 years.
What about chiropractic do you find most interesting?
I thought it was interesting that chiropractic care can directly affect multiple aspects of your body, and not just the neck and back area like I had previously thought. I really love the idea that the body is a self-healing mechanism and has the idea to express health at a higher capacity when free of vertebral subluxation!
What is your favorite part of your job?
Getting to travel to a lot of college campuses all over the country is a really cool thing. I also love that I get to see students mature and grow as they go throughout the program. I especially love when I help mentor a student before their enrollment at Sherman and then I get to see them really blossom while on campus!
What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective students?
Learn how to manage your time effectively, and practice new study habits. Most students have not endured the type of schooling that is presented at Sherman, and being in class for seven hours a day and then having to study for different quizzes and tests on top of that can be very taxing. So learning how to study effectively and how to manage your time will be critical to your success as a student at Sherman. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help. This program is hard enough on your own so take advantage of the resources that we provide on campus to help you be successful in the program!
What is something interesting about you?
I am a huge sports guy and I love to be outside. Depending on the year, you can find my wife and I kayaking, hiking, walking our dogs, etc.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
Too many good ones to choose just one. Main Street Pub, Delaney’s Irish Pub, and Miyako’s Sushi all come to mind.
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
When it’s football season, I’m locked in on the Crimson Tide. Other than that, I’m either playing golf or pickleball! Once Sunday rolls around, I got my eyes on whatever PGA Tour tournament is going on to wrap up the weekend.
###### Samantha Cappatt, B.A.
Admissions Counselor
Where are you from, and how long have you lived in the Upstate?
I’m from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and moved here a little over 3 years ago.
What first drew you to Sherman College of Chiropractic?
When I was in school, I worked at an animal hospital nearby and first heard of Sherman College from a student who came in. They just graduated and couldn’t stop talking about their love for Sherman College and chiropractic. Right before I graduated, I noticed an open position at Sherman, the exact position I was looking for. I knew immediately this was where I was meant to be.
How long have you been an admissions counselor at Sherman College?
Almost 1 year!
What about chiropractic do you find most interesting?
The holistic approach to wellness that most people, including myself, aren’t introduced to growing up.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The best part of my job is getting to know students as they transition from curious prospects to proud Shermies! It’s equally gratifying to witness their growth as they immerse themselves in the Sherman community and thrive almost instantly.
What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective students?
Explore the field of chiropractic early on through shadowing opportunities. Not only will the experience provide you with insight into the daily routine of a chiropractor, but it can also spark interest in a specific area within chiropractic that resonates with you. Sherman College provides resources to help you connect with these opportunities – all you have to do is ask!
What is something interesting about you?
I’m a big movie enthusiast! My two favorite directors are Hayao Miyazaki and Stanley Kubrick.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
Konnichiwa (the downtown Spartanburg location). Best sushi spot in the area!
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
The best plans are no plans. A perfect weekend is spending time with my people, enjoying anything outdoors, exploring new places, and going with the flow.

How do you stay connected to Sherman College? For the past 15 years I’ve been the official football team DC for the University of South Carolina and in that time, I have sent at least 17 students to Sherman. I remain in contact with these students, and they keep me up to date with the happenings at Sherman.
Most Memorable Classmate: To be honest I cannot single out one of my friends, we had a small group of us who were really tight, and we banded together and made the years fly by. Mark Centrelli, Frank Segreto, Mike Dalton, Jim Herald, and Mike Nirenstein, each one was special and my memories of us at school still warm my heart to this day.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: That is extremely difficult, but I think if I had to choose one it would be Dr. Les Wise. His passion and knowledge for the profession was immense and he was excellent at passing that knowledge along. This was why I applied and was accepted to extern with him, and we remained friends, his passing was very sad.
Fun (brief) Memory: I have a very good brief memory and I hope it translates well. We were in Dr. John Porter’s technique class and by this time I knew it all. I was being critiqued and the entire class surrounded me as I set up on my patient. Dr. Porter walks over to my table and inspects my technique and positioning and his critique was priceless and remains part of our conversations to this day. He said “Cohen! You’re on the wrong side, doing the wrong move!” And without another word he moved on, hilarity ensued and we still laugh about it to this day
Favorite Lyceum Memory: Probably when I received the distinguished service award from Sherman College.
What has been the best improvement to Sherman you have seen since you were a student? Total inclusion and diversity of thought.
What would you like to see for Sherman College? I know Chiropractic works, I’ve seen it firsthand for 35 years and I think the school should use its natural resources (Students) to prove it with some internal studies showing the efficacy of the profession. I have a few ideas if anyone is interested but I think Sherman can take the lead and prove to the world what chiropractic and chiropractic adjustments can achieve.

Most Memorable Classmate: They were all pretty cool. I do not have just one. We had a lot of fun.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: Ralph Boone
Fun (brief) Memory: Toggle contests on the rubber tires in technique class.
Favorite Lyceum Memory: Seeing former classmates and teachers.
What has been the best improvement to Sherman you have seen since you were a student? The new buildings have been great additions.
What would you like to see for Sherman College? Continuing to hold the line on philosophy and vitalism in chiropractic education.

How do you stay connected to Sherman College? I am active in Sherman’s Animal Chiropractic Club, have many Sherman students shadow me in practice, and care for many of our Sherman family’s pets.
Most Memorable Classmate: Miranda Mistoler LaFrage and Sarah Roseberry Stewart (AKA “The Triplets”)
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: Dr. Kenya!
Fun (brief) Memory: Our class was the very last class to endure a 1st quarter “Bagel Fest”. Bagel Fest was the welcome back celebration that included the new first quarter having to sing and dance while the rest of the school booed loudly and enjoyed free bagels! It was all in great fun.
Favorite Lyceum Memory: My very first Lyceum as a student I heard Dr. Jay Komarek lecture about animal chiropractic and watched him adjust a horse. This was my first introduction to animal chiropractic, and the moment that set me on my career path to becoming an animal chiropractor.
What has been the best improvement to Sherman you have seen since you were a student? I am impressed with the addition of the new Gelardi Student Center and the renovations to the old buildings. The campus looks amazing.
What would you like to see for Sherman College? I would love to see Sherman add an AVCA approved animal chiropractic program!

How do you stay connected to Sherman College? Lifetime Regent; Read all Sherman correspondence; Scholarship in memory of my parents, Samuel & Sandy Berkowitz.
Most Memorable Classmate: Pete Lope, Monica Kemp.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: Doug Gates & Les Wise; Graham Dobson, another major influencer on me throughout my career in Chiropractic
Fun & Sad (brief) Memory: I actually failed Thom Gelardi’s 1st Quarter Philosophy class 801. This was a serious problem as a transfer student. I sat with Thom for hours going over every question, defending why I believed I deserved an extra point here and there as Thom defended why not. Thom was fair every step of the way as we negotiated a point here and a point there. Once I reached my predetermined minimum to get a passing grade, I stopped the negotiations, totally exhausted. What stood out most was how Thom listened to my every perspective on each question. I learned so much more during that time than I could have received anywhere else.
Favorite Lyceum Memory: 1999 when Sherman dedicated Lyceum to me. OMG! It was only the 2nd time a Lyceum was ever dedicated to an individual.
What has been the best improvement to Sherman you have seen since you were a student? The Physical Campus.
What would you like to see for Sherman College? Emphasis on Chiropractic as a NON-THERAPEUTIC profession. Chiropractic cannot survive duplicating the objective of therapeutic profession.

How do you stay connected to Sherman College? I proudly and humbly serve on the Board of Trustees of the College and my daughter, Tatiana, is a student in the DC2B Class of ’24.
Most Memorable Classmate: My most memorable classmate, who became my amazing husband, is Dr. Victor Bazzani. Another amazing classmate is Dr. Mark Moyers.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: Without a doubt, Dr. Tony Duke.
Fun Memory: Rafting, hiking, bottle-rocket wars, being in school with my brother, Ron. Just being around amazing, philosophical, and fun people! I feel so blessed!
Favorite Lyceum Memory: I have always loved connecting with our Sherman founders, Drs. Thom & Betty Gelardi, at Lyceum. Seeing their interactions with attendees and Sherman students throughout Lyceum sessions and activities is really special. After founding Sherman 50 years ago, they are still dedicated to the core and remain devoted to our students, employees and our mission to adjust the world for a better future.
What has been the best improvement to Sherman you have seen since you were a student? The campus is simply beautiful and has grown so much! The staff and faculty remain top-notch and the best around!

National Estate Planning Week is observed each year in the third week of October. It is a time dedicated to inspiring individuals to proactively safeguard their wealth, secure their family’s future, and facilitate a seamless transfer of assets to future generations.
What is estate planning?
Estate planning is managing and distributing assets, debts, and healthcare preferences in the event that you are incapacitated or pass. Because most chiropractors own their practice, it is crucial to plan ahead to secure a financial legacy.
Why develop an estate plan?
Simply put, an estate plan allows you to have control over what happens to your belongings, finances and even your healthcare decisions when you are no longer able to make those choices yourself.
Start your estate planning today by following these critical steps.
As a non-profit organization, Sherman College depends on gifts of all sizes to positively impact our students, programs and to fulfill our mission of “Adjusting the World for a Better Future.” By including Sherman in your estate plan, you will support chiropractic education in perpetuity. Here’s how your bequest can make a difference:
National Estate Planning Week is a proactive way to take control of your financial and legal affairs to ensure the protection of your practice, your family’s future, and your own well-being. It’s never too late to start, so begin your estate plan this year during National Estate Planning Week. Take an important step towards securing your legacy and a bright future for your loved ones.
For more information about including Sherman College in your estate planning, please visit https://www.sherman.edu/give/build-a-legacy/ or contact Dr. Russell Goff, development coordinator, at rggoff@sherman.edu.

Favorite Sherman College Instructor: Drs. Sheldon Clayton, Gary Vidrine, Anthony Duke, and Ralph Boone. I could not pick just one, these instructors were great.
Fun Memory: Bagel fest and Spizz day skits were always a lot of fun while getting to know the new students and enjoying bagels. I also worked in the bookstore while a student and enjoyed my time there.
Favorite Lyceum Memory: I always enjoyed the Big Tent Philosophy events. We heard so many wonderful speakers like Dr. Gelardi, Dr. Reggie Gold, and Dr. Sigafoose among other giants in the profession. Graduation Year: December 2015
Current Location: Lexington, South Carolina
Years in Practice: 6.5
How do you stay connected to Sherman? To stay connected I attend Lyceum every year since graduating and keep up with colleagues and professors through Facebook and attend conferences all across the country.
Most Memorable Classmate: My most memorable classmate was Keisha Hall Smith. We spent so many hours studying together for classes and board exams. We also made so many memories on campus at Sherman College.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: Dr. Beth McDowell-Reizer was always my favorite instructor at Sherman College. She always respected our time and treated us more like colleagues than students and made her classes fun and low stress, while still making sure we knew the material. Thank you for that!
Favorite Memory: One of my favorite memories was when my husband who is also a Sherman graduate, Joe Messina, and I found out we were expecting our first baby the morning of Lyceum 2017! I also received the Rising Star Award that day. Fast forward a year later and we had our firstborn, Cooper, at Lyceum with us at 4 months old playing with other chiro babies, while we listened to some of the best speakers in chiropractic! I’m so grateful to chiropractic and Sherman College, especially for being so supportive of families being included in the profession!
Where has Sherman improved most? I think the best improvement that Sherman has made is creating change ahead of the curve. They have made improvements to the campus, profession, student studies, and success in practice in such a short amount of time and are continuing to level up!
What do you see for Sherman’s next 50 years? In the next 50 years, I see a lot of growth for Sherman College and I hope that it maintains its family ‘hometown’ atmosphere for current students and graduates.

What do you do to stay connected to Sherman College now? To stay connected, I attend Lyceum each year and share Sherman College with all those interested in pursuing a career in chiropractic.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: I was blessed with many great instructors who gave their time and talents; it’s hard to name just one! Each instructor I worked with as a student at Sherman College was approachable and personable and made themselves available to ensure the success of myself and my peers. Something I find unique to Sherman College is that each time I visit the campus, I can see one of my past instructors if not many. That speaks volumes for Sherman College, as the instructors that trained me remain committed to Sherman’s message and the message of principled chiropractic.
Favorite Lyceum Memory: One of my favorite memories was when I was invited to speak at Sherman’s Lyceum. I was humbled to be asked and to see that in the audience looking back at me were many of the very instructors who supported me while in school and my classmates. It was a moment filled with much gratitude.
What has been the best improvement to Sherman you’ve seen since you were a student? The best improvement for Sherman since being a full-time student on campus is redesigning and reorganizing the campus. The new building designs, innovative learning environment, and thoughtfulness that was considered to help support the staff and students are simply unique. Each time I visit the campus, I am reminded of the richness of Sherman’s past and the excitement of where Sherman is heading.
What would you like to see for Sherman College in the next 50 years? My vision for Sherman College and all the chiropractors is that collectively we hold to the principles and power of chiropractic. Sherman College continues to strengthen its root within communities near and far so that everyone can hear the chiropractic message and all those interested can experience the power of chiropractic. Now is the time to bridge the gap and build public awareness and understanding of the value of living a chiropractic lifestyle.

We are always inviting them to job shadow us for the day so they can experience what our typical day is like. We even introduced our nanny to chiropractic, and she is now a student at Sherman! This award honors the Gelardis and the award recipient who is deemed to have those same qualities as the Gelardis; presented in recognition of unselfish dedication, visionary leadership, and pioneering spirit.
Robert G. Berkowitz, D.C. began his Chiropractic journey in 1976 after graduating from Rutgers University in New Jersey where he earned his Bachelor of Science and earned six varsity letters in football, wrestling, and baseball.
He transferred to Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic after numerous discussions with his Rutgers fraternity Brother, Dr. Peter Lope, who was enrolled at Sherman.
Sherman represented a vision of chiropractic as a separate and district profession, with a clear and rational objective: the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation for the sole purpose of allowing the life within the body a better circumstance to express itself.
It’s been a 42-year journey as a solo practitioner that has included actively promoting, supporting, and advancing the unique concept of a non-therapeutic chiropractor, representing Sherman at graduate student fairs around the tri-state area of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, or wherever Sherman asked him to go.
Bob served on the Sherman College Board of Trustees for 22 years, never missing a meeting or conference call. As its chair for four years, during what were the most challenging times, he represented Sherman’s vision of chiropractic at various venues including in front of the accrediting agencies of SACS and CCE, as well as federal legislators in Washington, DC.
On the state level, Bob has been active for 42 years as a member of the Garden State Chiropractic Society, 38 years as a member of their Board of Directors, and as an officer for 33 years.
He has testified in front of both the New Jersey state senate and assembly to successfully allow the non-therapeutic objective to be included within the Scope of Practice Act.
On the national and international levels, he has been a part of the FSCO, currently the IFCO, since his time as a Sherman student. Dr. Berkowitz also served as a board member of the organization for over 35 years.
During 9/11, he was credentialed by both FEMA & the City of New York as a volunteer chiropractor at FEMA’s command center in the Javits Convention Center and in lower Manhattan where the tragedy occurred.
Along the way, he has been named Sherman College’s Regent of the Year on more than one occasion, Chiropractor of the Year by Sherman College and the Garden State Chiropractic Society, and was one of only two people to have a Sherman Lyceum dedicated in his honor during the millennial year.

Most Memorable Classmate: My friend, Kurt Oetjens, is my most memorable classmate.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor(s): My favorite instructors were Dr. Jack Albrecht and Dr. Michael Westbrook.
Favorite Memory: A fun memory for me was when classmate George “Big G” McConnell was playing on Sherman’s softball team, looked at me in the stands and said, “This one is for you.” He pointed to the fence with the bat and Babe Ruth’d one over it, rounded the bases, turned to the catcher, and said, “If you listen really hard, you may hear it drop.”
Favorite Lyceum Memory: My favorite memory is seeing my old friends, classmates, and instructors.

Fun (brief) memory to share: Bagelfest was always a highlight of the quarter for me!
What do you love about Lyceum? I love reconnecting with old professors.

How do you stay connected to Sherman? To stay connected, I am a Regent, a ROAR (Reach Out And Recruit) Doctor, and I try to attend Lyceum every year.
Most Memorable Classmate: I had a great class, and picking just one is hard! I still maintain friendships with many of my classmates. When I was at Sherman, there were so many powerhouse students – many of us went on to practice abroad, have successful practices, and have become leaders in the profession.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: The Sherman faculty are stellar, and I could not pick just one as a favorite. A few instructors that I can remember are Drs. Decken, Penacchio, Moore, Porter, Seay, Gibbon, Guest, and Fehl. (I’m sure I forgot many!)
A Favorite Sherman Memory: I decided to attend Sherman because I went to a Lyceum. During Lyceum, the energy on campus was so palpable, the big top was a fantastic sight to see, and when Reggie Gold explained the power of chiropractic, it resonated with something inside of me that I always suspected was there. I knew it was my place, and chiropractic was my calling.
Favorite Lyceum(s): The times that I attended Lyceum as a student were some of the most memorable. We, as students, would work the event, paint the stage backdrop, set up, pick up speakers from the airport, drive the golf carts for people up and down the hill, give tours, staff the WCCS smoothie booth, attend any speakers we could, and participate in late night “spizz” events under the big top which were followed by bonfires at classmates’ houses where doctors would come and hang out and talk philosophy all night.

Most Memorable Classmate: As a transfer student, I was a little late coming in, but overall, I would say David Serio was the most memorable classmate for me.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: My favorite Sherman instructor was Val Pennacchio.
Do you have a memory to share? The spizz acts during bagel fest were epic! Especially Full Metal Toggle, by Brian Douglas! Tears of laughter were rolling everywhere! “Gomer Pile! Get on your knees and subluxate yourself!”
Favorite Lyceum Memory: One of my favorite memories was being with chiropractors from all different ‘camps’ together at Sherman for the inauguration of Dr. Edwin Cordero! While I was a student, my favorite memory was having Dan Millman (Way of the Peaceful Warrior) speak under the Big Top and the pool party at Dick Plummers house after Lyceum.
What would you say is most improved? The best improvements to Sherman have been the remodeling of the buildings! What a huge improvement!
What would you like to see for Sherman College in the next 50 years? In the next 50 years at Sherman, I would like to see the continuous growth of the student population so that we can make an even improved impact on our communities! I would also like to see the continuation of more opportunities for students to be as prepared as possible for the real business world after graduation to make them financially smart!

I have always been intrigued by the quietest person in the room. When they spoke, it was usually profound, intentional, and moving. They offered a level of mystery and a bit of the unknown. And so it was with Joseph B. Strauss, D.C., F.C.S.C.
Since BJ Palmer’s passing, chiropractic has been left with only a handful of writings. Joe Strauss has been one of the profession’s most prolific authors, having written 24 Blue Books, including seven commentaries on the Green Books. Like his conversations, little was ever wasted on trivia. He thought concisely, wrote concisely, and stood concisely…a bigger giant does not exist.
He wrote with simplicity so that even the layperson could understand him. His tenderness, which some mistakenly took as timidity, was offset by his boundless certainty, deep thought, and enormous conviction for chiropractic. Those who dared to dig deeper were left with incredible insight, unparalleled awe, and an appreciation for a man who could take the complex and break it down into digestible bites to savor for a lifetime.
Joe loved chiropractic. He was committed to his patients/practice members and believed wholeheartedly that everyone should receive chiropractic care. He epitomized the “box on the wall” way of doing business, and he never appeared to want despite what some may have thought of that method of doing business.
He was a caring husband, a loving father, and a dedicated mentor to so many. His kindness oozed with every word he uttered. When in his presence, there was never a doubt or uncertainty. When Joe spoke, one could not help but listen.
He was concerned about the future of chiropractic, but he never gave up hope. He loved those who loved chiropractic and gave to them like few others. Joe remembered everything. If you met him even casually at an event, he’d remember you the next time he saw you. His brain, his mind, and his being were something that most of us could only hope to have. Joe was…Joe.
His depth of understanding of chiropractic philosophy, history, science, and politics was so deep that his discussions rolled off his tongue with little to no effort. He knew what he knew, and what he knew was deeply profound.
Joe loved people. He loved humanity. He loved possibility. He loved chiropractic.
There may never be another Joe. He left us with a void. He left us empowered. He left us better.
His hope for us chiropractors was that we would honor the sanctity and purity that DD and BJ left us. He felt strongly about protecting the ‘Sacred Trust.” He wrote in “Refined by Fire” on page 301:
“The straight chiropractor and his philosophy and principles will be further refined and strengthened by the intense heat of medical and government efforts to destroy the profession. When the political fires have ended, when health reform in this country has destroyed some and has caused others to thrive, when mixing chiropractic has been absorbed or obliterated, standing firm amidst the ashes of the chiropractic profession’s self-destructive, selfish actions, will be straight chiropractic, stronger and purer than ever, a refuge for every chiropractor who wants to continue to practice. The firm roots of its philosophy and the resiliency of its practitioners will assure its perpetuation, purer and stronger than ever. MERELY THE BEGINNING”
Like the greats before him, Joe stood resolute in his knowing that chiropractic could impact the world in such a positive way. He was unyielding. He was certain. He was kind.
I wish I could have known him more. I wish we could have all known him more. We can honor him by staying true to chiropractic as the Palmers would have us do. You can keep him by reading his writings and sharing his truths with those who are willing to listen.
We shared a love for chiropractic. He honored those whose commitments began to approach his. I am the fortunate benefactor of having gotten his attention, and I am eternally grateful.
He sent me a lovely note with a copy of his autographed book, “Refined by Fire,” I often ask myself, “Why me?” This means more to me than nearly everything else in chiropractic.
My hope is that we all have the conviction that Joe Strauss had. In doing so, planet Earth will undoubtedly be a better place and may even approach BJ’s Utopia.
Thank you, Joe. You mattered greatly. The post From the Desk of the President appeared first on Sherman College of Chiropractic.

Lyceum every year and I am a ROAR (Reach Out and Recruit) doctor.
Most Memorable Classmates: Robin Pace & Craig Arcamone
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: I loved every single instructor that I had at Sherman!
Favorite Memory: Before Larry the Lion was Sherman’s mascot, my friend Rick Florez ‘04, did a
little digging and found out the original mascot was a unicorn. One time at a student event, he
came dressed as a unicorn and trotted around everyone letting us all know about the history of
the mascot.
Favorite Lyceum Memory: This is a hard question, because I have a lot of favorite memories
from Lyceum. I don’t have a specific memory, but I always enjoy seeing friends and colleagues
year to year coming together for fellowship at such an informative and fun event.
What’s the best improvement you’ve seen at Sherman College? The best improvements to
date are the renovations to the Scallon Building, Student Health Center, as well as building the
Gelardi Student Center.

What do you do to stay connected to Sherman College now? To stay connected, I have done student nights at my office teaching different aspects of the Knee Chest Technique, X-ray, thermography with Tytron, and adjusting
Most Memorable Classmate: This is a hard question to answer. We had a small class, so it was more like a family. Everyone had their own memorable traits, especially the guy that would only ever wear shorts to school. This person shall remain nameless, but we all know who he is.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: There are so many great instructors at Sherman College and it’s hard to name just one! If you put me on the spot, it’s a tie between Dr. Ron and Dr. Orndorff.
Favorite Lyceum Memory: One of my favorite Lyceum memories is hearing my late mentor Dr. Andy Roberts speak about the music between the notes, referring to the healing taking place in between each adjustment.
What has been the best improvement to Sherman? The best improvement by far is the new Gelardi Student Center. It truly is amazing to look at and such a huge benefit to the students as well. I have to say the Cone Beam CT is pretty cool, too!
What would you like to see for Sherman College in the next 50 years? In the next 50 years, I would like to continue to see class sizes increase. Also, the advancement of research as well as protecting the chiropractic profession.

What has been the best improvement for Sherman? The Gelardi Student Center was the best improvement. Being one of the classes to live through the construction, eating lunch in the middle of summer under a tent and studying in a trailer with friendly ants and stink bugs, the new center is set up well for students to have space to study, eat and relax.
What would you love to see in Sherman’s Next 50 Years? I would love to see a new Health Center built to better reflect how awesome Sherman College is to the community that we serve.

Favorite Lyceum Memory: Over all the years, it has always been the gathering of the Sherman families at Lyceum. It is great seeing all the children who have lived subluxation free from their very start. Another fond memory was one Sunday morning to end a Lyceum, I went to hear Reggie speak one last time before Dr. Catherine Silver-Riddell, ‘76, took the stage to sing “Carry It On.” We all sang along, holding hands and ringing around the white Lyceum tent before we finally had to say goodbye until the next Lyceum.
