As part of the 'Lord of All' series, today's sermon, titled 'A New Way to Speak', explores how putting on our new self in Christ affects our speech. We are called to put away corrupting talk, and use our words to build up others (Ephesians 4:29).
There are different motivations for people wanting to work; basic needs/provision, social aspect, job satisfaction, it’s a place to use skills and talents etc. When we come to faith in Christ, God takes that motivation and desire to ‘make money’ and redirects the purpose for why we want to make money. Ephesians 4:28 ESV - This verse was broken down in three parts in relation to our old self and to ‘put on’ our new self.
This Sunday, we explored Paul’s teachings in Ephesians 4 on anger, focusing on the difference between righteous and sinful manifestations of it. The importance of timing and duration of anger was also highlighted. Ephesians 4:25-32

Followers of Christ are called to unity, but not uniformity as exemplified by the many gifts the Lord has given his church. In week two of our series, 'Gifted for Love' we examine how God uniquely created his church as a body with many members; all with a specific role to play in the building up of the church.

One for the Men is our annual Father's Day message addressed directly to the men of our church. This years message is an encouragement and exhortation to dad's to raise their kids in the Lord in a culture that is targeting our children with dangerous ideologies. The text of this message is Deuteronomy 6:5-9.
We all hold different positions in our lives and we must understand that every position we hold should be leveraged for God's purposes and plans. In week 7 of our series, 'Created for Good Works', we examine this principle through the example of Esther.
As followers of Jesus, we have a choice to make every day; whether to fear man or fear God. The fear of man is a curse, while the fear of God is a blessing. In part three of our look at Jeremiah, we consider how to kill the fear of man in our lives so we are not controlled by the thoughts and opinions of others, but by every word that comes from the Lord.
The fear of man will keep us from living out the good works God has given us to do. In our second week looking at the fear of man we look at symptoms of this problem using what has been called by some, 'The classic text on the fear of man'; Jeremiah 17:5-8.
As we continue our series, 'Created for Good Works', we look at Jeremiah's life and one of the biggest hindrances to doing good works for God: The fear of man. When we have misplaced fear toward other people rather than having an appropriate fear of God our ability to walk in the good works God has given us to do will be stifled.
When a follower of Jesus passes into eternity, they long to hear from Jesus the words in Matthew 25:23, 'Well done good and faithful servant..Enter into the joy of your master.' Faithfulness is a lifelong discipline that must be practiced and pursued. A man or woman’s faithfulness does not start in the midst of a fiery trial, faithfulness is tested in trials, but it is forged in the mundane of the every day life through consistent practices, postures and intentionality.
Joshua was commissioned by God to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, but it would take strength and courage for Joshua to accomplish his mission. In this sermon from our series, 'Created for Good Works', we consider where Joshua's strength and courage comes from and the parallels between the source of Joshua's courage and our own, as followers of Jesus.

After eating the fruit God had commanded them not to eat, Adam and Eve felt the weight of shame and their shame caused them to do two things: Hide and pass blame. In this message on joy we consider four conclusions about Jesus and their implications for us. 1. Jesus pursued and is motivated by joy, therefore we should be also. | 2. The joy Jesus pursued was a future promise of joy; therefore the joy we pursue is the same. | 3. Jesus’ joy is grounded in His obedience to His Father, therefore so is ours. | 4. Jesus’ greatest joy came through his greatest sacrifice and His service to His people, therefore the same principle is true for us.
In our new series, 'Who Is this Saviour: The Heart and Character of Jesus' our aim is to gain a better understanding of who Jesus is. What comes most naturally to him? In week one of our series, we considered what his disposition is toward us based on what he says about his own heart in Matthew 11:29.
In the final message from our series 'The Ordinary Means of Grace', we look at the Lord's Supper and answer the questions: Why do we do it? What does it mean? We also consider Paul's warnings about taking it in an unworthy manner and what implications that has for us today.
On thanksgiving weekend we ‘give thanks’ for all that we have received and as Christian’s we give thanks to our Heavenly Father knowing all good things come down from Him and that’s really the heart behind tithing. It is giving back to God a portion of what He has blessed us with. It is one of the ways that we demonstrate tangibly our thankfulness to Him.
Baptism is one of the means of grace God has given his people to experience his grace and witness to the world the gospel of Jesus Christ. In this message we consider why we baptize and what it means.
The Lord has given his people the practice of prayer as a means of experiencing Him. In week two of our series entitled 'The Ordinary Means of Grace', we look at seven reasons why prayer is a means of grace and an integral part of Jesus' Church.
The Lord has given His church specific means through which we experience His grace. We want to be a church marked by trusting in the means God has given us to accomplish his work in our lives and the world around us.
God reveals his personal name to Moses in Exodus 3. In our final message for our series 'The Names of God and Why They Matter' we consider what we learn about God from the revelation of his personal name: YAHWEH.
Our world longs for peace, but the peace we need cannot be obtained through anything in this world, nor can it be obtained solely by our efforts alone. The peace we need is a supernatural peace that is imputed to us by Jesus Christ.
Our God is the Lord of Hosts, the one who has ultimate authority over the heavens and the earth. He is able to do all things, including bring revival to His people.
Our fight is not against flesh and blood, it is against the rulers, authorities and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. We can fight like Joshua (in the natural) all we want, but until we start fighting like Moses (in prayer) we will lose. Neglect of prayer means losing the battle. The banner we live under means our war is fought with hands raised, knees bowed and self-sufficiency slaughtered.
Our God, Jehovah Rapha, heals all our diseases; physical, emotional, moral, and spiritual.
God sees you. He sees you when it feels like no one else does. He sees your afflictions; your disobedience; your past, present and future; and he sees what you need.
The life of a Christian flourishes best when our love and desire for our Heavenly Father runs deep.
The final chapter of Jonah reveals that Jonah struggled with God's true nature. He was angry that God turned out to be the exact character He is revealed to be over and over in scripture. Jonah's view of God was skewed by His own sinfulness. Likewise, our view of God can be skewed by our own sinfulness. Will we humbly surrender our thoughts, our feelings, our inclinations and our expectations to what God's true, revealed nature is? This is the lesson of chapter four.
We will never reach a culture full of lost souls if all we have is angst and contempt toward it....don't be like Jonah.

Substitution is an important biblical concept that is seen most clearly in the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. In this sermon from our series through Jonah we examine the idea of substitution and how it is seen in Jonah's life.
Whatever we find acceptance in, whatever we find greatest happiness in, that is our true god regardless of what we confess; because that thing, whatever it is, will have our most focused attention and as a result, yields the greatest power to point us to who we are, what we want, what we should and shouldn’t do and what we are worth, basically forming our identity. In week three of our series through Jonah we look at Jonah's struggle with identity and how it caused him to misunderstand God.
Living in a sinful world, all of us will have trouble, but sometimes trouble comes as a result of another persons sin. What do we do when this is the case? Why would God allow us to go through a trial as a result of another persons disobedience? In week two of our series through Jonah we consider these questions through the lens of the sailors who were caught in the storm as a result of Jonah's rebellion.
The story of Jonah is well known, but ask the average person what it is about and it is evident knowledge of Jonah doesn't go much beyond: "Jonah disobeyed God and was swallowed by a big fish." There are two gates before every person, a narrow gate that leads to life and a wide gate that leads to destruction. Followers of Christ must walk in integrity of word and deed. Jesus says in Matthew 5:33-37 'Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil. Individuals should be able to readily trust the words we say. Integrity is so important because we carry the most important message in the world.
Every year on the first weekend after the kids return to school we take a Sunday to discuss our purpose as individuals and as a church. Our aim is to understand what God has called us to be so we put healthy rhythms in place in our lives.
God wants both our body (our physical being) and our soul (our inner being) to be kept clean and holy, which is why He forbids not just impure outward actions, looks and talk, but also thoughts and desires we entertain in the heart and mind. To deal properly with lust (as with any impurity), there is something fundamental that must be present in our hearts before we will kill the hold sins have upon us: Having a transformative understanding of Sin and its consequences.
There is a lot going on in an individuals heart before committing the act of physically murdering another human being; namely, as Jesus points out here: anger and hatred are deeply present.
God’s focus is always primarily the heart behind our actions. To be angry with another; to insult another; to treat them with contempt; to say of another ‘you fool’ condemns us. When we have this attitude, It is us entertaining the root of murder in our heart, because the root of murder is anger.
Jesus' declaration that he did not come to abolish the law but fulfill it has caused debate amongst followers of Christ regarding what this means for our relation to the Old Testament Law. In this message from our 'Sermon on the Mount' series, we consider what is meant by Jesus' fulfillment of the law and prophets and how we, as his followers are to view the Old Testament.
Jesus tells is followers "You are the salt of the earth...You are the light of the world.", but he also warns us that we can lose our saltiness and we can hide our light. What does it mean to be salt and light in this world? How do we keep from losing our saltiness or hiding out light? We examine the answers to these things together as we teach through Matthew 5:13-16.
Why does the world persecute followers of Jesus? According to Jesus, the reason is due to righteousness and the fact that righteousness in Christ is at odds with the world. Matthew 5:10-12.
The expectation for all who are in Christ is that we will be peacemakers. We work to make peace between God and man as well as between human relationships. Matthew 5:9: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."
This week, as we continue looking at the Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount, we consider what it means to be pure in heart. Every human heart longs and needs to see God. Most hearts do not recognize this need, but it is constantly present. Jesus says it is the pure in heart who will see Him.
Matthew 5:8 'Blessed are the Pure in Heart, for they shall see God.'
In week 6 of our series through the Sermon on the Mount, we look at the fourth Beatitude: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied." - Matthew 5:6. How vital God is to your life will determine how vigorously you hunger and thirst for righteousness.
In week three of our series through the Sermon on the Mount we start examining the Beatitudes. Today, we look at the first Beatitude found in Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven".

God’s judgment on all of mankind is: “There is none who does good.” Which is why salvation comes by grace alone through faith alone. The saving grace which brings salvation to sinners is initiated and given by God, not the other way around. Today we look at God’s sovereign grace over the life of sinners.
In Psalm 49 the writer addresses a subject that matters to "all inhabitants of the earth." Through the psalm he addresses the issue of wealth and through it we see that how we view eternity will impact how we handle money. Having the right view of eternity will kill the love of money in our lives, but so many followers of Christ fall short of this perspective.
