In this episode of Logos Podcast, Fr. Max and Fr. Joseph dive deep into the meaning of the Old Law and the New Law — drawing from Scripture, the Church Fathers, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Is the God of the Old Testament different from the God of the New Testament? Did Jesus come to abolish the law, or to fulfill it? And why does St. Thomas say the New Law is actually more demanding than the Old?

Together, the priests unpack the Torah, the Ten Commandments, the sacrificial system, and the judicial laws of Israel — and show how all of these find their fulfillment in Christ, the Law of Freedom and the Law of Love.

You’ll learn why the grace of the Holy Spirit is at the heart of Christian life, how to avoid common misunderstandings between Catholics and Protestants, and what it means to live interiorly with God’s Spirit today.

If you’ve ever wondered about the relationship between the Old Testament and the New Testament, this conversation will give you clarity, challenge your assumptions, and inspire you to go deeper in the Catholic faith.

Topics covered:
- Misconceptions about Old vs. New Testament God
- The purpose of the Old Law (moral, liturgical, judicial)
- Why the Old Law was incomplete
- Prophecies of a New Law in Ezekiel
- St. Thomas Aquinas on the grace of the Holy Spirit
- Why the New Law is harder — yet possible through grace
- What it means to live the Law of Love today

In this episode of Logos Podcast, Fathers Max and Joseph dive into Justin Bieber’s song “Dad’s Love” and uncover a surprising depth behind the pop star’s words. From explicit tracks to unexpected prayers for unity, Bieber’s album becomes a springboard for a profound conversation about the longing in every human heart.

We explore:

  • Why Bieber’s heart—like ours—was made for communion with God
  • Jesus’ high priestly prayer for unity in John 17
  • The radical nature of Christian brotherhood and what real unity demands
  • St. Thérèse of Lisieux’s tears of joy at being able to call God “Father”

It’s a conversation that shows how even a pop album can echo the deepest desires of the human soul and point us back to the Father’s love.

In this episode of Logos Podcast, Fathers Max and Joseph sit down with Dr. Christopher Blum, professor at the Augustine Institute, to unpack the deep and often unnoticed influence of secular modernity on our hearts, minds, and culture.

We explore:
– Why secular culture replaces worship instead of rejecting it
– The dangers of replacing faith, hope, and charity with modern “virtues”
– How our phones and technology curate a false version of freedom
– What John Paul II, Ratzinger, and the Catholic tradition say about the modern crisis
– Why liturgy, contemplation, and metaphysics matter more than ever

Dr. Blum brings powerful clarity, humor, and wisdom to the conversation. Whether you're a student of philosophy, a young Catholic navigating culture, or just hungry for depth this episode is for you.

In this episode of Logos Podcast, Father Max and Father Joseph sit down with Josiah Lott (a.k.a. Thursday)—Catholic creative, media consultant, and former Pines with Aquinas producer—to explore how the Church can evangelize in a world shaped by technology. From Neil Postman’s Technopoly to TikTok algorithms, we ask: Is the internet an uncontacted tribe? What does authentic evangelization look like in a digital world? And how do we protect our souls in a culture where devices mediate reality?

We also dive into Josiah’s inspiring journey—from Kroger night shifts to content directing for Jason Evert’s Chastity Project—and reflect on how creatives can translate the Gospel into the language of our age without losing its substance.

Whether you're a Catholic content creator, digital missionary, or someone just trying to stay human in a hyperconnected world—this conversation will challenge and inspire you.

In this episode of Logos Podcast, we welcome Dr. Michael Barber, Professor of Sacred Scripture and Theology at the Augustine Institute, to discuss one of the most foundational questions of the Christian faith: What is salvation?

Dr. Barber draws on his extensive theological and biblical expertise to guide us through the Catholic understanding of salvation—clarifying what it is, what it is not, and why it remains central to the life of every Christian. Together, we explore misconceptions such as salvation as mere self-help, legal exchange, or private experience, and instead highlight the Church’s teaching on grace, discipleship, the sacraments, and the call to ongoing conversion.

Death is a reality we all have to confront.

Often, it can be a very hard and ugly thing.
Naturally, we all have an apprehension to it since we are made for life. We defend this reality by promoting the procreation of children, by promoting things like marriage, by promoting traffic laws and speed limits, by promoting medicine, and the sorts.

But, what happens when we simply reject it? What happens when we become insensitive to the fact of death? Does our culture allow for us to consider it?

We are all fractured, in some way. Sometimes its our own fault, other times it is not, but we all lack interior integration. On top of this, many have resorted to pornography to compensate and help them cope with an already growing disintegration. How do we get out of this hole? Is brute force the way?

On this episode, Dr. Malinoski, a clinical psychologist, contributor to FOCUS, hosted on the Chris Stefanick Catholic Show, and co-founder of Interior Integration, helps lay out a proper anthropological vision of who man is and who he is called to be. In doing so, he gives us a pathway to understand our need for interior integration and how to move towards it.

Rick Rubin and Cole Bennett, two cultural giants of our age.

Rick Rubin has helped produce music for artists like: Run DMC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith, Johnny Cash, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Adele, Kesha, Lady Gaga, and the Avett Brothers. His experience takes him beyond classic music production genres. Beyond this, he wrote a book that became an instant hit and lead him to go on Joe Rogan to promote it and dissect it.

Similarly, Cole Bennett has helped artists like: Lil Pump, Mask the Slump God, Lil Xan, Juice World, J. Cole, Eminem, Dcn. Max, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, Jack Harlow, and Dr. Dre. Why the resumes?

Well, this shows you the scope of their cultural influence. Both Rick, as a music producer, and Cole, as a music video producer, have helped infuse our world with a particular vision of reality and value structures. The question for us is: is the Logos present in what they have to say? We argue: yes. Not only that, it is our obligation to find where Jesus Christ is in their conversation. Here is our take on it!

Why are humans so bad at navigating the relationship between work and leisure?

We all want that relation to be integrated and ordered. In fact, we all know that our recreation should infuse our work and vise versa. Yet, we are either attached to our work or deem it a mere drudgery. Why? Is there a way back to a more whole, integrated living?

In this episode, we deal with these and more questions with Matt Hylom.

In this episode, Logos Podcast dives in the virtue of humility as opposed to its vice of pride.

In the spiritual life, pride is the venomous serpent ready to strike. In fact, we often hear Saint warn us against pride and its destructive nature. Indeed, it seems to be engrained in our every action as human beings. Why do we continue to feed it, this ego of ours, even when it’s clearly hurting us?

Better yet, how do we combat it? With nothing else other than good Ol’fashion humility.

In this episode, we dive into the need for the liturgy and rituals. St. Paul talks about humanity needing to enter into "logical worship"...what is he talking about?

Wait, isn't the Catholic Church just a cult? Those vestments, those middle aged men called "priests", the kneeling and standing, the funky smelling smoke, the weird repetitive prayers all smack of a weird cult; therefore, its pointless.

But, is that so? Why do worship God in this way? Isn't the importance of the Christian life to "have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?"

Join us in exploring some philosophical and theological fundamentals of defending children in this thought-provoking podcast episode. Rather than taking a scientific, moral, or ethical apologetic approach, we saw a need to call people to the biblical message of being a child, being a son in order to get into heaven.

As you can tell by the title, we have something to say about Italy. However, it is mostly postive!

There is, however, an in house competition regarding whether Ice Cream or Gelato is better. What is not in debate is the beauty and wonder of Assisi and Rome...wow.

But, what and why? Why are we so moved from having spent some time here? Well, check out the episode.

Without fail, one of the first things we are asked when we introduce ourselves as aspirants of the priesthood is, “Wait, you do know priests can’t have sex or get married, right?”

The first time we were asked, we were taken by surprise; however, after having come to grips with it, we began to notice that this question comes from a lack of understanding of a reality foreign to ordinary life, namely celibacy.

In this episode, we do two things:

1) We discuss some of the misconceptions surrounding celibacy

2) We talk about what its purpose is and why such a reality exists in the Church

FYI: Anticipate sarcasm, humor, and, only slightly, condescension (mostly from Max, but…)

This week, Logos Podcast takes on a new topic of conversation, namely finance and economics. Credit cards, retirement, student loans, car loans, stock investments, and trust funds, what do these have to do with our living? Are they sinful? Are they good? A good American BETTER have these in place, damn it!

Well, believe it or not, the Church has something to say about them, and we brought on independent researcher Michael Humpherys to help us develop the Church’s assessment of some of the financial matters at hand.

How do our finances shape our lives? What does the Church say regarding these facets of human living? Tune in to find out!

"How often do you think about the Roman Empire?" #rome #stoicism #stoic #marcusaurelius #warzone #warzone #napoleon #ridleyscott #movie #review #cinema #art #beauty

This question has become trendy in social media, but it is not new to historians or serious thinkers. Thus, we summoned Dr. Eric Graff to help us dive into this discussion.

We begin the discussion, however, by giving our initial impressions of Napoleon as directed and produced by Sir Ridley Scott featuring Joaquin Phoenix and then move into discussing what exactly the Roman Empire is, and some of its pros and cons.

Is a desire to be "Roman" a response to decadence or a desire for more?

Memory. This is the hot topic of today. Like, McDonald’s fries, it stays relevant.

But, what is it? Why does it play such an important role in human living? Remember that Oppenheimer movie? Why was it so popular?

These questions and much more are discussed in our podcast for this week. At the very least, we hope this episode helps you remember…

In this episode, Logos takes on the up-and-coming Zach Bryan. What has made him so popular? His melodies, his rhythms, his lyrics? Whatever it is, we look at the phenomena that is Zach Bryan by drawing out some themes in his song "Spotless" from his newest album. Themes like love, humility, providence, perfectionism, and trust were deeply intertwined into this song and, we thought, worthy of diving into a bit more from a philosophical and theological framework. We hope you enjoyed the episode.

Freedom, one of the great pillars of Western Civilization. We all hold it dearly to our hearts, but what is it? Is it simply arbitrary choice? Or, is it worth fighting for?

In this episode, Logos gives two distinct notions of freedom in hopes to articulate what freedom is, how it is popularly understood, and help you, our listener, come to a better life imbued with the truth and goodness of the Gospel. Ultimately, there is no freedom without Jesus Christ. But, why? Is the desire to have independence all that bad?

Tune in to find out!

Beauty, what is it? Is it objective? Is it useful? Does man need it?

In a world surrounded by brand marketing, AI, and modern architecture focused on efficiency, a question arises: do we need beauty, do we need creativity?

life #art #artist #creative #ai #creativity #podcast #motivation #beautiful #architecture #painting #love

Famous YouTubers like Casey Neistat and Peter Mckinnon have critizied AI because of its capacity to "reproduce" imaging. Why is their emphasis on the creative subject to vehement and, we think, worth fighting for?

It is not only YouTubers arguing against AI as a sole recourse of productivity, but several other academics, particularly, aestheticians. Again, this just reaffirms our conviction, modern man is ignorant of beauty and, therefore, does not consider it necessary.

Well, Logos is here to dive into this trying conversation. We will define beauty (according to the Western Tradition), outline its characteristics, and challenge its listeners to take the Beautiful serious because without it...man dies!

In this episode, Logos assess what "the heart" is and its relationship to the popular Catholic June devotion known as: The Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ. With all of the talk of "pride month", we thought it fitting to talk about love, the passion, and the heart, and how to reclaim the culture we cannot rely on ourselves. In order to be purified and happy, we must turn to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ that experiences and loves perfectly.

Today, Logos brings on Dr. Ashley Fernandes to discuss contemporary medical practice and its approach to a person who is suffering and dying.  Dr. Fernandes is uniquely positioned to discuss this topic as he has a background in philosophy and medicine - stemming from the classroom to the bedside.

Thus, he brings a wholistic and unique perspective to some of man's deepest questions: what is the value of the person? does life matter? should suffering be avoided at all costs?

These questions and more we discuss on this episode. But for now, pray for Dr. Fernandes and all of those in the medical field fighting for the roots and value of Christian anthropology.

We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did!

Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis. All in one movie? What could it be? Well, a movie about a shoe. But a shoe attached to a person.

Michael Jordan, you know the name? If you don't, it says more about you than him.

Recently, Ben Affleck directed the movie Air which is a biographical sports drama of the shoe "Air Jordan" produced by Nike in the the late 1980's. Why make a movie about a shoe? Well, as the adage in the movie goes, "a shoe is a shoe until someone steps into it." Indeed, Michael Jordan is no ordinary man. He changed the game of basketball and the athletic demand at large.

Guys, we hope you enjoy this review/analysis of the movie as we take a deeper dive into some of its insightful themes and our assessment of them.

Friends, on today's episode, Logos discusses tradition with Michael Lofton, a Catholic Apologist. You might recognize Michael from his show Reason and Theology, his recent interview with Matt Fradd on Pints with Aquinas, or his appearance on EWTN, Catholic Answers, and various other projects.

In this discussion, we discuss what tradition is generally, what it is particular to the Christian life, and how tradition relates to other emerging "traditions."

The central questions in play: *what is tradition?" and does it matter?"

Welcome to the party.

In this episode, Logos discusses the relationship between The Seal of Confession and Civil law. With the recent sex abuse scandals and many other issues in the Church: why grants the Church the ability to practice its right? Where does this authority to "forgive sins" come from anyways? Civil justice over divine justice, many chant.

In order to cover this topic more comprehensively, we invited Deacon. Harrison Garlick, a civil lawyer, to help us out.

With Andrew Tate, Ryan Holiday, Matthew McConaughey, and Joe Rogan promoting Marcus Aurelius and the Stoic way of life, Logos felt the need to dive into the conversation. Per-usual, philosophical discourse motivates this conversation, yet we bring it into communion with the great gift God has given man to encounter Him, namely the Gospel.

As a part of this conversation, we will define stoicism, its ethical, epistemological, and theological implications, and their relationship to the Gospel. Buckle in, you are in for a philosophical, yet fascinating ride down "Ponder Avenue" on "Joey and Max Blvd" destined for the Jesus Christ. Did I draw this analogy out too long? I did, didn't I?

Anyways, enjoy the show and God bless!

Political landscapes, social lives, and cultural influences all shape our view of reality. Many of us live under the impression that humanity is limited to pleasure, utility, autonomy, and power. Yet, there exists a witness that challenges these popularly held views.

This witness lives in a silent, ordered, and "useless" life that reminds man of his eternal destiny. This witness is a cloistered nun.

Guys, on this episode, Logos dives into an article we found interesting where the author writes about the conception of a Nun within a "liberal society." Who is a nun? Does she do anything? Does she live up the liberal model of happiness? Questions like these mentioned and more are covered in this episode.

Welcome to this episode of Logos Podcast. If you are new, thank you for tuning in! Below are some links for you to check out our work all the more! If you are a continued listener, you will love this week's episode.

This week, Logos brings on Dr. Perry Cahall - a "marriage specialist", Theologian, and, above all, husband and father. This episode consists of a wide range of discussions of which are primarily: Marriage, Divorce, and Same-Sex Unions. We do not pretend to have all the answers or tackle every facet of this vast topic. However, Logos, with the abundant help of Dr. Cahall, seeks to draw out this authentic conversation so as to bring you to the truth the natural world and the Catholic faith. In a word, to prose the remedy to unhappiness and slavery.

Herein lies our mission: to expose the depth and beauty of reality which is infused with The Knower, Creator, and Lover, Jesus Christ - the Logos.

Hope you all enjoy and find this as fruitful as we did!

On this episode, Logos brings its good Ol'fashion cocktail of philosophy, science, and theology and, of course, garnishing of humor! What's that? "On the rocks please", you say?

Friend's, this is a dense one...we are not going to lie. Logos attempts to give a comprehensive, yet approachable analysis of materialism, its history, its prevalence in the scientific community (particularly neuroscience), and its influence on the larger culture!

For this one, get your notebooks out, you might actually learn something! Above all, we hope this information helps you grow in relationship with Jesus Christ - Truth incarnate.

As always, God Bless!

In this episode, Logos Podcast takes on a big yet sensitive topic: Transgenderism. Not because it is “the thing” to talk about as much as we find it essential to engage because its influential ideology and lifestyle shapes man’s mind and heart - a mind and heart that is called to be shaped by the Cross.

On tap, we talk about transgenderism and its relation to biology, psychology, philosophy, and theology. Yes, this a delicate topic, but we do not back away from difficult conversations...love demands engagement in the conversation!

To have an informed conversation, however, Logos brought on a previous guest, Fr. Dylan James - a priest and bioethicist. Having been a pastor for 14 years, Fr. James comes at this topic with a wide range of theoretical conceptions and practical living of this growing movement. As an Englishman (yes, we are sorry), he also provides a view beyond the American perspective, which is suitable for shaping honest dialogue.

Enough of this paragraph that nobody reads! Enjoy the episode, and, as always, God bless you!

Morgan Wallen is one of the most listened-to country singers out right now. Having successfully starred on The Voice in 2014, Morgan Wallen continues to reign among the top 200 most listened-to artists of contemporary times. Yes, even after some of his surrounding controversy. But what makes him so popular?

Well, a look at his lyrics gives us a significant clue. Stylistically, he is a simple country music composer. He sings of typical country music themes (girlfriends, boots, trucks, beer, and Jesus Christ). Yet, the song we assess today gives a deeper glimpse into the heart of Morgan. Indeed, Don't Think Jesus seems to tap into many poetical, philosophical, Christological, and theological themes that we explore.

We hope you enjoy and are drawn closer into the mystery of Our Lord. As always, God bless!

Many of us have probably Googled "Violence Of the Old Testament" or asked a friend about such a topic. We anticipate a clear answer; however, at the root of the question is an even more profound and super rational question: How could a good God allow violence in the Bible, the Book of Life?

Alongside these questions, we dive into the question(s): Is the Bible reliable? Wait, the "book of life"? But what to do with the slavery, death, murder, adultery, human sacrifice, and annihilation sprinkled throughout such a text? This conversation seeks to explore some of these questions and give avenues by which to engage them.

Along with these topics, we discuss The mythology of the Bible, the difference between the Quran and the Bible, and, weirdly enough, Lynyrd Skynyrd!

This week, Dr. Matthew Ramage joins Logos to dive into this very topic. We welcome him and hope you enjoy his insights as much as we did! Above all, we hope you became more sensitive to the goodness, truth, and beauty of Christ in His utterance through the Church's intellectual tradition.

On this episode, Logos Podcast contemplates another painting. Netflix, Van Gogh, and the New York Times have covered the artwork we are assessing: The Storm at the Sea of Galilee. The painter: Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn. According to the tales of his time, he was an ominous man, like many prominent historical figures. This 17th-century painter changed the landscape of Dutch Artisanship and continues to be a significant influence today.

Yet, his painting draws us into his contemplative life. As an artist of Christian upbringing, it seems fitting that his painting surrounded a lot of biblical imagery. These paintings include The Return of the Prodigal Son, The Stoning of Saint Stephen, The Raising of the Cross, and the one we are doing today!

Guys, this painter is one who suffered for his love of beauty. There is an important listen to this painting and art in general.

As we move along this reflection, this line came to mind time and time again: “Man does not live off bread alone.” Indeed, mans soul is propelled by beauty into the mystery of its source, Jesus Christ. We hope that you feel the same way after entering our discussion. God Love You!

CHAT GPT, OPEN AI, the MetaVerse, virtual reality("VR"), transhumanism, and artificial intelligence ("AI") are all buzzwords we have heard a lot of recently.
Particularly CHAT GPT. But what is all of this stuff? Should we take it seriously? The best approach is to run away from it all! No. It is currently an approach, but it differs from the one we promote.

In this episode, Logos confronts some of the profound questions and propositions of the rising technological revolution. Serious questions we consider, and you should too: What is technology? Is progress always positive? What distinguishes a man from a machine with a highly sophisticated information network? Are machines morally culpable?

Like most of our stuff, this discussion is just that; a discussion. As such, we invite you to dialogue with these concepts and realities emerging around us. Above all, to bring them into contact with THE divine Truth of Jesus Christ.

There must be something good, true, and beautiful about said advancement, but they are all rooted in something, in someONE. What are we to make of these developments?

Enjoy, and God Bless!

Pope Benedict XVI has died?! How can it be?

In this episode, Logos discusses some of impact Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI  has had on us personally as well as society and the Catholic Church at large.

Pope Benedict was not simply a pope. Benedict was a scholar better known as Ratzinger who wrote on numerous subjects such as: science, scripture, anthropology, epistemology, philosophy, music, art, and, above all, theology.

In a certain way, the Second Vatican Council can be seen through his thought and dedication to the Church. But, what can the general population take away from this figure?

Well, first and foremost, a re-awakening of society to the important role of the Church! Secondly, how to engage in fruitful conversation by taking the extreme positions and reaching a coherent synthesis. And, lastly, how to love the Person of Truth: Jesus Christ.

Enjoy this episode! We hope you learn and take something from it. God Bless!

In this episode, Max and Joey discuss their experiences of the Holy Land. This pilgrimage extended throughout the wider Middle East to places like: Jaffa, Jordan, Palestine, Jerusalem, Galilee, and Israel at large.

Did Jesus really exist? Maybe He was simply a historical man? To be frank, tracing the foot steps of Jesus Christ makes one grateful for all of the work and money invested in under covering and safeguarding the paths where Jesus Christ, Our Savior would have walked on earth. It is no small miracle that these places still exist - some of which are flourishing while some are merely ruins.

The words of Our Lord and the inspired Biblical authors suffice to deem the Gospels credible, nevertheless, coming face to face with the history and very place that Our Lord dwelt definitely gives the Gospel an enhanced, unique, and powerful dynamism.

We are glad to be back. We hope you enjoy this episode!

In this episode, Logos takes on the topic of the Logos, the incarnation. As Christmas nears, it is the time to anticipate and contemplate God's becoming a man. It is, in a sense, the central claim of the Christian faith.

But why, why did God become man? Do we believe this claim is true? If so, why does it matter?

Tune into this episode to find out! We hope you find this episode fruitful, hopeful, and intelligible.

God Bless and Have a Merry Christmas!

Like some of our episodes in the past, this one is a bit different. This episode comes from a talk Joey gave to an Alpha group at the Church he is currently serving. Alpha is, as is on their website, "an evangelistic course which seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith through a series of talks and discussions. It is described by its organizer's as "an opportunity to explore the meaning of life"." Thus, Alpha is comprised of people from all walks of life, from Christian to Buddhist to Atheist.

Joey is fortunate to have been walking and serving this group over the past several weeks. As the sessions came to a close, however, Joey was asked to close off the meetings by giving a talk on the culminating topic, namely to discuss the Church.

The particular question he tapped into was: what is the Church? Is the Church a mere intuition? Did it have "a founder"? What about the apostolic succession? Did Christ found really found a Church? Aren't we all 'the Church'? Surely a personal relationship with Him is sufficient? These questions and more, Joey dives into!

Tune in, enjoy, and we hope that Joey's talk illuminates you all!

God Bless and Merry Christmas!

In this episode, Logos takes on the historical and miraculous events surrounding a series of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Hill of Tepeyac in Mexico. It also reflects on the importance of motherhood, the credibility of the poor, the scientific evidence of the apparitions, and some of the Aztec people's history.

These apparitions were not accepted at face value; however, they underwent scrutiny and doubt by the bishop Mary asked to carry out Her wish. Nevertheless, through a humble yet credible source, Juan Diego, these apparitions were proven by none other than Mary.

These apparitions and "Tilma" motivate and guide the Americas, particularly North and Central America, to do this day.

Many have encountered Our Lady of Guadalupe through Mexican-American friends or family, coffee mug stickers, or random shoulder tattoos; however, these same people are also unaware of its significance, history, and continued life. A history, meaning, and life that continues today!

In this episode, Logos takes on a movie everybody is talking about, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

This movie has, unsurprisingly, received a lot of acclamation and criticism. After all, Marvel movies always reach wide, varying audiences; therefore, one expects good and bad reflections on it.

Some of the key themes in the movie that we cover are:
- Death
- Afterlife
- Deeply Seeded Play on Rituals
- Religion Vs. Psychology
- Tradition Vs. Technology
- Music Of theFilm

Obviously, we cannot, nor pretend to, cover every facet of this movie. We merely analysis some of the deeply philosophical and theological implications that guide this movie. Overall, we rate this movie a 6 on a scale from 1 to 10. Comment below your rating on a scale from 1 to 10. Also, tell us what you liked and disliked about this film.

Given the upcoming holidays, Logos thought it fitting to discuss gratitude and its power.

Now, we discuss thanksgiving itself, but this episode looks at gratitude in general as articulated by the tradition of the Church. Often, one can live life without actually considering the need for gratitude. It is more than a "thank you, ma'am" or "thank you, sir." Gratitude is a spiritual, stable disposition. It is a step towards union and love. It is, after all, a unique human power that acknowledges the dignity of the other and The Other, God.

Thank you for tuning into this episode! Thank you all for listening to Logos, and, as always, God bless you.

In this episode, Logos dives into a sensitive yet profound discussion. With tensions between Ukraine and Russia elevating, questions naturally arise in many people's minds: Shouldn't countries be more aggressive towards Russia? Is war justifiable? Is war morally permissible? Is not pacifism the solution to the rising tensions?

These questions prompt us to enter into a discussion within the realm of moral theology. Throughout the life of the ancient Church, justification for war wasn't much of a question. The Church has had the criterion we discuss in this episode, but modern warfare has made the idea of a 'just war' much more complex. Yes, the Church would say that war can be justified, but it needs to be qualified and "fleshed out," as it were.

As a starting point, however, one ought to understand the principles by which the Church assesses such situations as the spiritual mother of the world; this discussion lays out said the criterion for "Just War" and discusses and applies some of the criteria to the current situation developing Europe amongst Ukraine and Russia. Again, it is complex, and rather than get into the politics or social impacts; we simply try to lay out the Church's moral guidelines when discussing such sensitive topics. In the guidelines, we can always find consolation.

Guys, on this week's episode, Logos takes on a hugely influential thinker of our times: Michel Foucault. Many people have not been exposed to Foucault by name, but they have been exposed to the language of 'Oppressor' Vs. 'Oppressed,' Institutionalized oppressors, Human de-constructivism, the need for a sexual revolution, the phrase "knowledge is power," and the sorts.

Foucault's philosophical spirit is indispensable to understanding our world today. Whether one agrees or disagrees with everything our culture proposes as socially beneficial, politically stable, or culturally acceptable, figures like Foucault are essential to understand the 'power' (to use Foucault's language) behind modern man's thought process. In one sense, his 'discourse' is employed all around us today.

We are not experts on Foucault, but we seek to give our audience a general scope of some of his works and basic ideas. To be abundantly clear, we are neither disciples nor promotors of Foucault. Still, we see him as a person whose hermeneutic provides a gateway by which the common person can engage with the forces possessing our friends and family.

In this episode, Logos takes on a simple, yet, at times, uncanny conversation.

We discuss whether drinking is a sin and some of the "whoops and poops" (pros and cons) of drinking. Weaved into the conversation is virtue ethics as well as some history of the Church's relationship with the 'good drink' of ancient and modern times. As we prepared for this episode, we found a lot of interesting facts with such historicity. If you stick around until the end, we give you ingredients to make the "cocktail" of the day, as the book Drinking With The Saints recommends.

In this episode, Logos takes on a reflective attitude on a popular, now older, but still relevant song: Turtles All The Way Down. This song was composed by Sturgill Simpson and is very contemplative. But, we also feel that it is a good song to discuss and analyze. By doing so, we can abstract the good and critique the bad.

We do not condone the actions of Sturgill in this song (particular usage of drugs),  but it does talk about Psychedelics, Love, God, the devil, and "reptile aliens".  So, we discuss these matters too. We enjoyed recording this episode a lot, we hope you enjoy listening to it!

In this episode, we discuss a big historical thing in the Church: The Inquisition. We discuss what the popular idea of it is, what it is, and what it is not. This discussion is necessary in a world where the vast majority of the Church's life is informed by people outside of it. Our guest, Dr. Eric Graff, brings in a qualified perspective to the subject matter. Dr. Graff has received several degree, one of which is a Doctorate from the University of Toronto, Canada. Dr. Graff is a medieval historian so Logos thought it fitting that we bring him on to discuss the inquisition as well as some of its famous association with Galileo. Guys, enjoy this episode. We did. In this episode, Joey shares with us some of his master thesis' research. His research largely relies on the thought of Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict Emeritus XVI) who dedicated a portion of one of his major text (Introduction to Christianity) On The Descent of Jesus Into Hell. So, what is hell? Did Jesus really go there? What is difference between "Abraham's bosom", Sheol, and hell as popularly know it? In other words, what in the hell was Jesus talking about?!Tune into this episode to hopefully find answers to some of these questions! God Love you all!

In this episode, we talk philosophy! You have probably heard people say something like "you choose who you are," "you choose your destiny," "only YOU can become YOU," or "there are only laws and values because they are accepted as beneficial by society." This episode will explore such ideas by looking at some of the basic tenants of Jean-Paul Sartre's Existentialism: anxiety, despair, nothingness, absurdity, value, and freedom. As such, we will discuss the origins of said phrasings and ways of thinking and their implications. But the title has the famous Roe Vs. Wade trial in it? “What does that have to do with a highly nuanced word such as Existentialism?” you might be asking yourself. Tune into this episode to find out the relationship we draw between Roe Vs. Wade and Existentialism! Support the show

In the popular culture, it is common for one to see religious and science, faith and reason as opposed to each other. The premise is: reality is about the visible reality, religion speaks of an invisible reality, therefore, religion does not speak about reality. However, some of the most real things are non-visible, namely ideas, love, the soul, etc...By pushing religion to a side, or putting faith to a side, the driving force of truth becomes reason; And, while the Church cheers reason on, she cautions about limiting oneself to it. On this episode, we discuss how faith and reason are not only related, but, in the order of knowledge, faith how perfects and excels reason.
