While this cat is growing fast, she takes her lounging sessions very seriously! You may have seen her in an earlier video here. I gave away her brother who would have encouraged in-breeding if he stuck around.

I took some time out to try getting rid of some paper wasps building up hives near entrances around the farm. I used a pest control drug called Neocidol that works as a strong repellent for two to three months, preventing the insects from colonising entire ceilings and roofs given the time.
What happens is once I spray the area including any existing hives, the wasps immediately leave the area and can't stick around any more. If they come back for their larvae, they die from ingesting the repulsive compound. They mostly live to build nests elsewhere but on this occasion I noticed a bird feasting on the larvae left behind. Hope it wasn't harmed in the end, or its chicks if it fed them the worms maybe.

It's been a chill saturday here and at some point noticed Jen's latest 'cubs' playing around their 'den'. These ones haven't had any human interaction, so I consider them pretty much wild.

I was attracted to a familiar call from an elusive bird to spot, when I whopped out my camera and started shooting a video the moment I saw it. It was with good fortune I had my camera near me.
Eventually, I figured out they were actually two birds singing at the same time, as the call seemed to have a mysteriously wicked stereo effect! It looks like the pair are mating as they can be seen chasing each other at some point. I lost them eventually but could still hear them singing from a distance.

After spending a lot of time home, one develops skills that have been left in the back burner for a while.
The first attempt at making this cake was done with honey instead of sugar. Other ingredients were thrown in together, so the recipe below is just a rough estimate if what went into the monster.
General outcome was a dry and crunchy cake. The honey version was too sweet though. Been eating this for breakfast.
second attempt recipe
1 ½ table spoon scoops of margarine
3 eggs
½ cup sugar
½ cup milk
1 ½ cups all purpose wheat flour
½ cup oats
1 ¾ teaspoons of baking powder

A beetle finds itself in human territory and is caught on camera trying to do the spinneroo.
It didn't quite succeed though, despite the presence of extra limbs and wings to its advantage.

This family of domestic cats consisting of a matriarch, her grown female offspring and her young male kitten. It's interesting to see the siblings feeding together considering the older female wasn't initially friendly to the younger kitten.
The male will have to find a new home to avoid any risk of inbreeding or get it's parental capabilities taken care of.
Meanwhile, he'll enjoy discovering the world under the watch of the senior family members. Here, they are sharing a meal of sardines.

This one here doesn't seem to mind. I've also seen it chewing grass and puking from time to time. Whatever causes that phenomenon, I don't know.

Noticed this Pied crow nibbling on some dropped seeds. The more I looked at it, the more I thought to myself how weird it looks. Maybe it's just me.

Art is good for the soul. A source of therapy. An avenue for expression. Very important at a time many people are facing a lot of difficulties.

I previously posted photos of a hive made of recycled pieces of wood. The hive now is already colonized by a swarm of bees which hopefully will make things interesting in the coming months.
Later on, some langstroth hives will be added into the mix as the bees seek new expansion territory or others seek a place to crash long-term, which will be good for business
I also filmed some small birds munching on seeds and the young female cat made a friend...

Late last week, I was alarmed by what sounded like a commotion outside only to be greeted by a swarm of bees swirling around a tree. It looked like they were in some battle of sorts at first, but it turns out they were just preparing a ‘camping’ spot for the day. And night.
At first, they formed two lumps of themselves along a single branch and eventually huddled themselves into one bundle at the further end of another branch on the same tree.
I noticed that they would leave pockets of space between them while banding together, almost like in a series of huge cheering squad pyramids kind of way, only that they were in the direction of gravity instead of against it. This must be to allow circulation of air to the core, where the queen probably is.
It got me thinking of the Hive vs Steem blockchain, where a different scenario happened. Two communities splitting from a single community. What if merging back became an appealing idea, would it be possible to merge two blockchains? Or is it impossible to merge blockchains once split? Just a thought, not a suggestion.
Bees in this state are usually looking for a suitable place to colonize. I was thinking that if I had a hive ready, I could try enticing them to make their home there. There are lots of flowering trees and bushes around, so they wouldn’t mind this location I’m sure. They have made hives close to the living quarters several times, which we have destroyed. It doesn’t make sense to keep doing that if we buy honey from time to time.
Making a few hives further off means we can have our lemons and eat them sweetened…

A group of safari ants decided to leave their nest and explore their surroundings, ending up under a pile of heartwood hosting some critters who weren't too amused with their intrusion.
Some slugs were awoken from their deep slumber only to end up as lunch. The same fate befell those bugs which couldn't get away, even a spider was spotted hitch-hiking a slug for safety!
Some birds didn't mind this, though. They saw this as an opportunity to grub some sumptuous mouthfuls of the healthy predators.

A fly making a rukus caught my attention, only to discover it had just been caught by a jumping spider.
Here I had whopped out my phone a little too late into the action, but early enough to catch the fly's final moments of its life.
The spider is so perfectly camouflaged against the wall, no wonder the fly didn't see it coming, compound eyes and all!

These two were at it for days... At least 48 hours, and I couldn't tell when they started either.
Also, I couldn't tell if they eventually parted ways mutually or the got eaten by a bird or something.
The male will likely find another female to mate with but the female won't need more fertilizing. She'll used the stored sperm in her abdomen (spermatheca) to fertilize the eggs while hatching them on the best host plants she can find.
