Diana Isern is a passionate assistant principal, financial educator, and presenter whose financial course seeks to transform how students think about wealth. Through nationwide presentations for educators, she equips teachers with inclusive, practical strategies to make financial literacy accessible and empowering. Drawing inspiration from her family stories, Diana believes generational wealth extends beyond money to include cultural values and resilience.

With nearly two decades in the New York City Public School system, Diana started as an ESL teacher supporting immigrant communities and has grown into a school leader who continues teaching because she believes being in the classroom with students is at the heart of leading with empathy. Her approach to financial education centers women and people of color, helping students envision themselves belonging in financial spaces.

Diana is an Accredited Financial Counselor, and her expertise has been recognized by Intuit for Education and the Council for Economic Education. She is currently writing a book for financial educators about making money topics more accessible. When not teaching or writing, she is traveling, boxing, and playing fútbol with her kids.

In this episode, Diana and I talk about the importance of addressing financial avoidance and gaining control over your personal finances. Diana shares her experiences working with clients and students, highlighting how confronting spending habits and understanding your own money stories–and your relationship with money– can lead to better financial health.

We delve into overcoming the psychological barriers to financial planning, the aftermath of parental influences on money mindset, and the value of creating a budget that reflects your values. Diana also introduces her upcoming book aimed at financial educators and the practical strategies it offers. This conversation sheds light on actionable steps for financial independence and the critical role of mindset in achieving your money goals.

In this episode of The Humble Rising Podcast, host Arivee Vargas delves into the concept of hedonic adaptation—the brain's tendency to normalize even the most positive changes in our lives, leading to a sense of restlessness or dissatisfaction despite external success. She explores why achieving milestones like promotions or new homes may not bring lasting fulfillment and offers three strategies to counteract this phenomenon:

  1. Reignite inspiration: Identify activities or interests that energize you beyond productivity.
  2. Redefine "enough": Establish personal benchmarks for success that align with your current values and season of life.
  3. Expand your identity: Recognize and embrace aspects of yourself beyond professional titles and achievements.

Arivee emphasizes that feeling unfulfilled doesn't indicate failure but may signal a need for realignment with one's evolving self. She encourages listeners to gently disrupt autopilot modes and reconnect with what truly brings joy and meaning.

Most high-achieving women don’t realize they’re burning out until it’s too late—because burnout isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s quiet. It creeps in while you're still performing, still holding it all together, still showing up for everyone else… except yourself.

In this episode, I share 5 subtle signs of burnout that many women—especially women of color—overlook or dismiss. These are the signs I missed in myself years ago. These are the same patterns I now see in the powerhouse lawyers and corporate leaders I coach.

We’ll talk about:

  • Why numbness, not exhaustion, might be your biggest red flag
  • How your “low tolerance” isn’t a personality flaw—it’s a signal
  • The burnout-success paradox: when productivity is high but fulfillment is low
  • What your body is trying to tell you (that your brain keeps ignoring)
  • The internal voice whispering “I should…” and why it’s draining your energy

You’ll also get 3 powerful self-reflection questions you can use right now to reconnect with your body, your truth, and your boundaries—before burnout forces you to stop.

If you’ve been feeling off but can’t quite name it… If you’re crushing your goals but feel increasingly disconnected… If you’re tired of carrying it all in silence...

This conversation is for you.

In this episode, I sit down with Valerie Zolezzi-Wyndham, JD (she/ella) who is a loving, inclusive leadership strategist, awakening courage and amplifying culture every day. Valerie is the founder/CEO of Promoting Good. Prior to founding her seven year old firm, she practiced preventative law at a non profit where she founded and managed a medical-legal partnership addressing health-harming legal needs. Today, she leads a team that is using proven and evidence-based frameworks to build workplaces where everyone can thrive. Outside of work, Valerie is an active volunteer, in addition to serving on several non profit boards, she is the co-founder and co-director of Casita Cultura Latina, a non profit that amplifies Latino culture and conversations about equity in central Massachusetts. She’s a proud Mexican immigrant. She has a B.A from Boston College and a JD from Boston University School of Law.

Valerie and I talk about her journey from Mexico City to Massachusetts, where she transitioned from a management role selling industrial hardware to practicing non-profit law for 17 years before founding her own consulting company, Promoting Good. We dive into that gut-wrenching moment when you know it's time to leave a job, even when loyalty makes it hard to walk away, and how sometimes leaving creates space for others to shine. Valerie opens up about creating workplaces where people feel safe to speak up, the challenges middle managers face when caught between company values and daily realities, and why staying true to your values is crucial during uncertain times. She shares her excitement about launching a new inclusive leadership assessment tool that helps leaders pinpoint their strengths and blind spots, and why giving honest feedback early makes such a difference. We also chat about her plans for 2025, including taking groups of women to experience her native Mexico, and her personal focus on bringing more play and growth into her life and work.

This week, we examine why many high-achieving women tie their self-worth to their professional achievements. Work offers a sense of control, validation, and instant gratification that can feel more manageable than the uncertainty of relationships, personal growth, or other areas of life. Over time, this reliance on work for self-esteem can turn into a coping mechanism, leaving women caught in a cycle of overworking to feel competent and valued.

This pattern creates a range of challenges, from struggling to be present with loved ones to constantly chasing the next accomplishment without ever feeling truly fulfilled. It can also amplify harsh self-criticism, making even minor setbacks at work feel like personal failures. As work takes up more mental and emotional space, many women find themselves disconnected from who they are outside of their careers, unsure of what brings them joy or purpose beyond their professional identity.

Breaking this cycle isn’t about giving up ambition—it’s about expanding the definition of success to include health, relationships, and personal fulfillment. By setting healthy boundaries, redefining self-worth, and embracing the discomfort of growth outside of work, women can begin to reclaim their sense of self. With support, self-reflection, and intentional action, it’s possible to build a life where worth isn’t tied to productivity, but to the whole, multifaceted person you are.

In this episode, I sit down with Vanessa Schwippert to explore breaking free from the stuck mindset, what it means to really take care of yourself, and finding your own true path.

Vanessa is a first-generation Colombian-American woman dedicated to empowering others through education, storytelling, and community building. After years of teaching in intentionally underserved communities, she shifted her focus to creating safe spaces for women, particularly Latinas. Vanessa is the creator and host of Chick Lit, a podcast where she does book reviews, encouraging women to decenter men and prioritize their own fulfillment.

In addition to her podcast, Vanessa founded the Latina Writing Comunidad, a vibrant space for Latinas who are breaking barriers, embracing passions, and sharing their stories. With a deep commitment to fostering supportive environments where creativity, culture, and empowerment intersect, Vanessa continues to inspire and uplift those around her, challenging traditional norms and redefining the role of women in our personal lives and beyond.

In our conversation, Vanessa opens up about her journey from being a special education teacher and the challenges she experienced to becoming the force behind the Chick Lit podcast and Latina Writing Comunidad.

She shares how taking a seven-month sabbatical (with therapy and very intentional self-care) changed everything for her. Whether you're stuck in a job that doesn't light you up or is burning you out, feeling pressure to live up to others' expectations, or simply craving more authenticity in your life, this conversation is your permission slip to pause and redirect.

Through honest stories and practical wisdom, Vanessa shows us how listening to our gut, embracing change, and building meaningful communities can transform not just our own lives, but the lives of others too. This episode is perfect for anyone ready to stop putting everyone else first and start creating a life that actually feels like you.

Today I'm sharing the excitement around my bestselling book "Your Time to Rise" and #1 new release on Amazon! If you've ever felt like something inside you has shifted, or that your success doesn't feel quite the same anymore, this episode is for you. I break down exactly who I wrote this book for (spoiler: those of us navigating big life transitions!), share the three most powerful takeaways that had my fellow coach saying "yes!" and tell a surprising story about how the book is creating bridges of understanding I never expected.

I’m sharing:

  1. The real scoop on who needs this book right now - especially if you're a professional (particularly women of color and moms) feeling that internal whisper saying "something's different" and wondering what's next.
  2. Three game-changing insights that my fellow coach loved: why choosing to "do nothing" is still a choice, the truth about actual survival mode versus the pressure we put on ourselves, and the simple but powerful truth about where all real change begins.
  3. A beautiful reminder of how sharing our authentic stories can create unexpected connections - told through the eyes of a reader who couldn't be more different from my target audience but found deep value in the book.

Julissa S. Germosén is an award-winning technology leader, highly sought-after speaker, author, and career coach with over two decades of experience leading teams at Microsoft, Salesforce, and tech start-ups in global enterprise sales, consulting, strategic alliances, product development, go-to-market strategy, and operations. Julissa is the CEO of Mariposa Blanca, a business strategy consulting firm. Her book, Latina Madrina: Stories, Lessons and Hard Truths from a Brown Latina in Tech and TEDx Talk, reflect her journey from immigrant roots in the Dominican Republic to her rise in the technology industry. Passionate about education and the Latinx community, Julissa established the Latina Leadership Potential Award scholarship at Rutgers University, the first for a woman of Hispanic/Latine descent.

I first saw Julissa on Latinas Front and Center with Hady Mendez. I felt so drawn to her and her story that I reached out to her on LinkedIn. I told her how inspiring I thought her story was and how much it resonated with me and asked her to join me on this podcast. The moment we started talking, we were both convinced this was all meant to be. Two Dominican women, latinas, who understand each other in ways that words can’t fully capture. I believe you’ll sense that connection in this episode. Julissa and I talk about some of the hard truths of being Latina climbing the corporate ladder. We delve into some of the questions and challenges they arise – like how do you assess what you really want, and how do you think about legacy, ways to navigate the corporate space that will serve you, and we get honest about some of the things we just can’t compete in as Latinas with certain backgrounds (hint: boats). Be sure to connect with Julissa and I by clicking the links below in the show notes and get her book Latina Madrina which just came out this week! I’m so excited for her and thrilled you’re here to hear our conversation.

I wanted to record this episode to update you on a massive transition I’ve been undergoing in my life. I’ve spoken about it on a number of podcasts, but not on my own podcast. In this episode, I share four struggles I’ve had in my transition from corporate life to entrepreneurship and how I’ve navigated them (and what I’m still working through). My hope is that this episode helps you untap the courage and power already inside of you to pursue what you deeply want and need in your own life, and that you do it scared without knowing how it will all turn out. Because one thing is certain: you will grow, learn and step into your power when you do the things you might be scared to do, or even resist doing. That’s what empowerment is all about. It’s harnessing your inherent power and exercising it no matter what stands in your way. Be sure to share with a friend, and show love to the podcast by rating and reviewing it. It helps get the podcast into the ears of people who might need it the most.

I’m excited to bring to you a special podcast episode today because it’s not me doing the interviewing, it’s me being interviewed by the CEO and founder of Boldly Speaking LLC, Hady Mendez on her show Latinas Front & Center. Hady has interviewed other Latinas on the show so you’ll want to check out the previous shows on her website. I’ll share the link for her website in the notes to this episode.

Let me share a bit about Hady to give you more context for our conversation. Hady is a Nurorican born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She has shared that as she pursued her career path, she was often the only Latina or woman of color in the spaces she worked in. SHe found herself navigating companies and organizations on her own, without the support she needed and realized that gap hindered her growth. Hady’s mission is to transform the experiences of women and people of color and empower employees from underrepresented groups by equipping them with the skills to self-advocate, self-promote, and capitalize on leadership roles within ERGs and throughout organizations.

Hady started Latinas Front and Center to spotlight Latinas and amplify our stories.

In this conversation, Arivee talks about her story, purpose and mission, what she’s currently working on, what advice she’d give her younger self, her favorite part about our Latino culture, and her upcoming book Your TIme to Rise: Unlearn Limiting Beliefs, Unlock Your Power, and Unleash Your Truest Self. Go to ariveevargas.com/book to get on the pre-order list.

Back in April 2024, I went on a wellness retreat and met Avantika Mathur. She had the brightest smile and most vibrant energy, and she led two art therapy sessions for all of us attending the retreat.. In one of the sessions, she asked us to draw: “Who are you without…all your titles.” In another session, she asked us to draw: “What do you do when you’re trying to protect yourself and what are you protected yourself from?” Take 20 people….give them that question, watch them draw their answer and listen to each of them as they share vulnerably each time. That was the safe, contained experience Avantika created for us at that retreat. We also did some dance therapy because you know, music and movement is life!

I kept in touch with Avantika and asked her to be on the podcast to share more of her story and her incredible work. Avantika, known as WomenPow, is a distinguished multi-disciplinary surrealist artist with over a decade of experience in the art and fashion sectors. She holds a BFA from the University of the Philippines, Manila, and an MFA from SNDT Women's University, Mumbai.

Dedicated to women's empowerment, Avantika employs various artistic mediums, including canvas series, street art, and body painting, to convey her message. She collaborates with renowned fashion institutions such as NIFT and FAD, teaching color psychology, idea generation, and fashion styling. Additionally, she serves as the resident artist for leading real estate companies Raheja and Godrej.

Avantika does immense social work and was the President of the Rotary Club of Navi Mumbai Industrial Area(22-23) and works with local political policymakers. As a certified therapeutic art life coach, she is part of a wellness retreat called Datu, offering Ayurvedic programs in Italy twice a year. She also supports children and women in need through art therapy across urban and rural villages.

Balancing multiple roles—artist, activist, professor, philanthropist, and politician—Avantika is married to Rahesh Donny, and they have three fur babies– a dog, Chester, and two cats, Wakanda and Troy. She lives by the motto, "When life shines in full glory, why be subtle?"

In this two-part conversation, Avantika and I delve into her work and just how impactful healing and conversation through art can be, which is what I personally experienced when working with her. She shares how what may appear to someone else as a disempowered woman can still feel empowered, despite their situation. For Avantika, empowerment is really about how do we ignite change from within, when we cannot change our external environment? In her words, only you can turn misery into magic. No one can do it for you and you can’t hide behind excuses.

She graduated from Columbia Law School in 2004 as a single mom of twins with over $200,000 in student loans and went straight to work at a Biglaw firm. After eight years she switched roles and became Senior Counsel at the Division of Enforcement at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Jessica is now back to talk about her 5 steps to crafting your exit plan. If you’ve been grappling about whether to leave your big law job, or you know you want to leave but think you can’t do it financially, Jessica’s exit plan is for you. We talk about the limiting beliefs we have to unlearn when it comes to money and the different strategies for being intentional with your money, and how to implement value based spending. And we get into so much more so I can’t wait for you to hear my conversation with Gigi.

In this two-part episode, Arivee talks to Amber J. Adams, a Leadership and Career Wellness Coach helping mid-career professionals who feel stuck in the “messy middle” of their careers and scared that they are unconsciously blocking their potential to work and lead with intention, joy, and purpose.

Before becoming a coach, Amber was an advertising executive who dreamed up fun marketing campaigns and had the privilege of leading high-performing creative teams. But like so many of her clients, she desired a pivot!

Today, she is the founder of Amber Career Studio where she creates space for mid-career professionals to sit the weight of leadership and work aside so they can channel their frustration into transformation and rediscover their capacity to move their careers forward.

In this conversation, Arivee and Amber delve into the biggest obstacles people experience when wanting to make a change, especially a professional one. Sometimes these changes are internally generated or externally forced, and we dig into both, including layoffs. For anyone struggling to progress towards a goal or wondering why they can’t just make it happen – this one is for you.

In this episode, I interview ID&E Leader Constanza Cabello. Dr. Constanza Cabello (Connie/ she/ her) joined State Street Corporation in 2021 as the Vice President for Equity Programs on the Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Team. Prior to joining State Street, Connie was a senior diversity officer in higher education. She continues to serve as a faculty member for the Equity Institutes Program at the University of Southern California Race and Equity Center. She was instrumental in the creation of the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education’s “New Undergraduate Experience” initiative, which serves as a guiding document to reimagine Massachusetts’ public higher education system through the lens of racial equity.

Much of her volunteerism and service is focused on advancing conditions for People of Color

and women. Within State Street she serves as a Mental Health Ambassador, and the co-chair of the Professional Development Committee of the Latin American Professionals Group. She is the Director of Community Affairs for ALPFA Boston, and a leader for the Boston Women’s Dinner Group.

Connie has been recognized by local and national organizations. Most recently, she was

selected by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and City Awake as a 2022 Ten

Outstanding Young Leader. She was also named to the 2022 Latinas to Watch List by ALPFA

(Association of Latino Professionals For America).

She holds a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership Studies from Northeastern

University, a Master of Science in Counseling from Central Connecticut State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Social Policy and Planning from the University of Connecticut.

Connie is a proud Chilean- American, Latina and immigrant.

In this episode, Connie shares her personal story and we delve into what it means to be Latina in the U.S., to unlearn beliefs and narratives like the hustle mentality and not feeling “good enough” that don’t serve us, the challenges we’ve overcome and continue to face as women of color, and the incredible opportunities in front of us. We also talk about what companies could do better; and you’ll hear Connie’s perspective on equity first, and why we need to focus on fixing conditions, not people.

In this special two-part episode, Arivee is joined again by previous Humble Rising Podcast guest, Dina Scippa. Dina is a gender equality specialist-turned certified life coach, and Founder of "Enough Labs". She supports women and girls in coaching on the intersections of leadership and confidence, is a seasoned trainer and facilitator, and is invited to speak regularly on radical self-acceptance, women’s empowerment and being enough. She hosts the internationally charted podcast "Embracing Enough", which showcases the stories of women and girls and their journey to feeling confident. She believes that once women accept the unwavering connection to the fact that they can do what they want to do, feel how they want to feel and be who they want to be in this world – it is then when she’s unstoppable.

In our conversation, Dina and I talk about the thought patterns and beliefs we need to unlearn to love ourselves, truly accept all we are, and become more confident. Often times, women do not celebrate themselves, give themselves credit, or qualify their accomplishments. It’s difficult for women to feel like they’ve done enough and they are in fact “good enough.” Dina and I dig deep into this and discuss how women are socialized to people please, to seek approval and validation from others, and how that impacts how we show up, especially at work. We also delve into what women can do to challenge those beliefs, become more loving and kind towards themselves, and how to step into who they want to be.

Dina says: “The thought patterns I battled for years and the ones my clients were bringing into sessions weren't isolated. Not accidental. Not random. They were a product of all the messages women pick up as girls that teach us how to find praise, validation and approval. How to socialize. How to seek out love. To fit a mold of what women are expected to be, designed by a patriarchal society. It’s high time that women give themselves permission to unlearn those toxic patterns that have been fueling their negative self talk; to give yourself permission to take up space; and to celebrate who you are and everything you’ve been through!”

In The Unlearning Lab, Dina has designed a program with tools to help you fully understand these toxic thought patterns and how you how to finally break free of their hold. You'll also find support, feedback and advice from a group of people who feel like you do right now but are just as ready to make a change. You won't get a quick fix or a magic bullet, but you will take a massive leap into unlocking your self‑acceptance and self‑love - so you can step into your unapologetic energy and take this world by storm. This is part 2 of a two part episode of my conversation with stress management therapist and coach Joy Langley. If you didn’t catch Part 1, which is episode 77, go back listen to that one first because this episode is a continuation of that conversation.

Joy Langley is a certified Coach and Stress Management Therapist based in the UK. She is also the author of “Navigating Stress” (released in 2021). In Joy’s view, we all need to recognize the things in life that stress us out, then commit to changing negative emotional patterns, behaviors and thinking habits. Her big mission is to alleviate human suffering. She does this by helping people get back to their “happy” place via transformational coaching and therapy conversations.

The maternal side of Joy’s family have a history of poor mental health. Joy experienced anxiety and depression during her 20s. Then tragically in 2018 her 23yr old son Riaz-Jaye committed suicide (the day after Joy’s birthday), after living with bipolar for longer than he could bear. Joy’s also had more than her fair share of close family bereavements so mental and emotional well-being are a non-negotiable way of life! Joy says no one should be asked to sacrifice health (burnout), relationships or their sanity because of the rules of their industry or profession.

First Lady Michelle Obama has said she has experienced "Imposter Syndrome".

Ever felt like you were waiting to be found out even though you work hard, so so hard? Ever attributed your accomplishments and achievements to luck or to some other person or external circumstance? Is it hard for you to own your capabilities and skills? Do you ever doubt yourself in certain rooms and not sure what you could possibly add to the conversation? This conversation with guest and powerhouse Illiana Acosta is going to help you see you are not alone in what you’ve been through, give language to things you are feeling and, help you navigate those feelings and roadblocks.

Illianna Acosta is all about helping people and organizations amplify their connection to community, leadership and belonging. She draws inspiration from humble beginnings that taught her a great deal about choosing a future outside of what she saw in front of her.

With 20 years of experience in AdTech, partnerships, and sales, Illianna is a Senior Manager at LinkedIn, managing Global AdTech Partnerships. Her work focuses on accelerating innovation, revenue, and customer growth. It was imperative to find her way, voice, and the support that would lead her to feel empowered enough to show up as herself.

Illiana is the Global Co-Chair of LinkedIn’s Hispanic ERG. She’s a member of the Chief network, she serves on the National Board of the 100 Hispanic Women Organization, and she is the Co-President of the Cornell Johnson School NY Alumni Organization. If there is one thing I’ve learned in the past year is that you must give to yourself just like you give to others. Your tireless work for others including family cannot come at the expense of your well-being. The cost of all the caregiving you do cannot be yourself. Because before you had children or before you had a partner, you were a person with your own identity. Your own dreams. Your own interests. You had a way to take care of yourself. Becoming a mom doesn’t mean all that gets pushed aside or delayed. It means an evolution of those things. And the transition and being in the throws of motherhood requires us to see ourselves again for who we truly are and take care of ourselves the way we need in this moment. In this episode, I share two steps to getting back to yourself when you’re in the thick of motherhood.

We often jump right into setting goals for a new year in our personal and professional lives. We create New Year’s resolutions. We say we’re starting fresh with new goals and a new outlook. Goal setting and visualizing the life and career you want and deserve can be powerful.

But we rarely take the time to acknowledge and celebrate what we’ve accomplished, what we’ve done, what we’ve learned, who we were able to be, and that we’re still here moving forward despite all the struggles we’ve been through.

So before we get into 2022 goal setting (and maybe your vision board!), this is your opportunity to take this time for yourself and reflect on all you did, all you navigated, how you’ve grown, the changes you made for the better, and how amazing it is that you woke up today with a chance to try again.

Join Arivee for a series of reflection prompts to acknowledge all you did and overcame in 2022. This is the audio for a webinar recording.

Elisa Charters is a passionate advocate for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) and the BIPOC community of women. She is a First generation college student, first generation in this country born and raised here.

In 2014, Elisa co-founded Latina Surge National non-profit, an extension of her community work at several organizations for 20+ years.

LSN’s mission is charitable and educational in advancing DEIB; its vision is to achieve parity for women across government, corporate America, and higher education and greater access for small business growth. In this episode we talk about what it means to be self empowered and to be IN POWER, cultural expectations that can impact how we move through the world particularly in our careers especially as Latinas, women of color, or if you’re first gen – this feeling of not being good enough, the constant push for upward mobility and how sitting still can feel uncomfortable because we are so used to pushing through and trying to achieve that upward mobility for so many reasons (many of which are embedded in our own upbringings and culture and community). We also delve into the systemic barriers we face and what can be done to address them. Elisa has her own personal view of what we can do and where our power really lies in breaking down barriers.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a helpful way to frame what your needs actually are at this time in your life. It’s one way we can put language to what we truly need versus everything we say we want and need.  This episode is an invitation for you to explore what your core needs are at this time, and how you can prioritize them from a place of acceptance and surrender instead of resistance, and what you can do to move forward to address them.  Small adjustments practiced more often over time have long lasting, impactful results.

You can’t change, improve or work on an area of your life that you aren’t aware of yet.  This is your invitation for more self-awareness and clarity, and then how to use that to decide what area you need to focus on most right now to improve it and take action that’s aligned with that.

I’m walking you through a self-assessment called Mi Vida Entera/My Entire Life. We’re going to assess specific areas of your life. The purpose of this isn’t to get a complete, perfect picture and rating of every single piece of your life.  It’s an invitation to get more self aware of how you’re really thinking and feeling, how you’re living and experiencing the different areas of your life and what needs to change for you to move closer towards what you need and want in those areas.

To confront the financial burden she felt after graduating from law school, Jessica worked for a prestigious law firm. My sister and I ended up having our babies 5 days apart this year. I know - it’s crazy! So we’re on this journey of newborn motherhood together. And what a ride it’s been so far. Recently, she asked me to share what I wish I would’ve known when my first child was born and any advice I’d give to a newborn mom. I share that advice in this episode. If you’re a new mom or parent, or if you are helping out a parent with a newborn, this one’s for you.

In this episode, I share a letter I wrote to my first daughter when she was only months old three and half years ago. I wrote it in my notes app on my phone at 2:30am after nursing her. I had a lot on my mind and was worried about the world she had been born into. I needed her to know all the things I wished for her, hoped for her, and the things I wanted her to remember. Although I knew she couldn’t read it and won’t be able to read it for some years, she will read it one day. When I re-read this letter, I realized that this isn’t just a letter for my baby girl, this is a letter of what I wish for all girls, especially Black and Latinx girls. And you will likely find (as I did) reminders in it that resonate regardless of how old you are. #thefutureisfemale

Massage? Pedicure? Manicure? Like you, I love the relaxation I feel when I’m able to indulge and make time for these things. While those types of pleasurable activities can be part of self-care, it’s nowhere near the whole story. In this episode, I challenge you to rethink how you define self-care and share key strategies for practicing it, which focuses on what you need during everyday moments and how to give that to yourself.

Let’s have some real talk about working mothers trying to “do it all.” In this episode, I share my secret and three tips for managing this time as a working mother of two (soon to be three at the time of this episode recording). This won’t give you all the answers, but it’s meant to give you some ideas on what you could do to lessen the overwhelm, stress, and to take back some time for you. We can’t take care of others unless we take care of ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally, etc. first.
