Brookwood high school ministry’s purpose is to encourage high school students to pursue a relationship with Jesus by faith so that they can experience transformed life.
In looking at Matthew 22:1-14, we see that while we are all invited to what Jesus offers, we must come on his terms. This truly is an encouraging story-Jesus desires us to be with him. Will we accept the invitation?
In Matthew 18:21-35 we see Jesus highlight the importance of showing other the forgiveness we have received from King Jesus. The bottom line is that forgiveness changes everything!
An examination of Matthew 13:1-23, where we see Jesus describe the various states of our receptivity to the good news. May we all be fertile soil that produces an abundant harvest!
Our two part series Sorry was all about forgiveness. Week one covered our need to be forgiven (Ephesians 2:1-10). Week two was about the call of Christ for us to forgive others (Colossians 3:12-15). Remember-forgiven people forgive people!
Jess Russo brings home the Ruth series and discuss' what it means to be a kinsman redeemer, and how that applies to our relationship with Jesus.
Our marriage panel discusses what it takes to have a successful, Christ honoring marriage.
Our final week of answering student questions featured fellow Brookwood Pastor Dr. Gene Beckner. We covered a wide variety of topics, from creation/evolution, to pets going to heaven, and even some talk around depression and anxiety. Remember-questions are good and God can handle your doubts! Just don't stay stuck-take a step!
Our I Have Questions series is dedicated to answering students submitted questions. Two of our pastors, Kevin and Jacob, were joined by their friend Tim, youth pastor at North Hills Church, to address topics ranging from the existence of aliens to processing through deep relational wounds. Remember-questions are good! Doubts are ok! God is big enough to handle those things!
Our first message of 2023 was entitled reset. We examined Amos 5:21-24 and how we can focus on what matters going into this new year.
The second week of our Joy to the World focused on the second coming of Christ that we see in Revelation 19-21. The bottom line is that we get to be with Jesus forever-what a joyous truth!
Part one of our Joy to the World series looked at the first arrival of Jesus in the Christmas story. Emmanuel, “God with us”, is truly a joyous message!
The final week of our James series covered James 5:13-20. We talked about the priority and power of prayer, and how we should pray for each other.
The penultimate week of our James series covered James 5:1-12. Guest speaker Lynne Neipp helped us think through how to view our wealth and our sufferings.
Week 8 of our James series covered James 4:13-17. We discussed the future, which is something that we must trust God with. He has seen every moment of our lives from beginning to end-what a comfort!
Week 7 of our James series examined James 4:1-12, where guest speaker Emily Baragar talked to us about some of our sin struggles and the steps we should take in response to them.
On Sunday, guest speaker Jess Russo took us through James 3:13-18. We discussed the difference in worldly wisdom and godly wisdom. Pursue godly wisdom!
The fourth week of our study of the book of James covered James 2:13-26. We discussed the relationship between faith and works-salvation leads to good works, not the other way around!
In the third week of our James series, we looked at James 2:1-13, talking about favoritism. God doesn't play favorites, and neither should we!
Week 2 of our James series covered James 1:19-27. We talked about being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, as well as how we must not just listen to God's Word, but allow it to shape our actions.
Week 1 of our walk through the book of James covered James 1:1-18. We talked about our attitude in troubles, wisdom coming from God, how to view all that we have, patient endurance, and how God sees us.
The final week of our Addiction series touched on our addiction to gossip. We love to be in the know, but we must remember that gossip is a destructive sin. Let’s resist the temptation to participate in gossip, actively or passively!
Week two in our series Addiction we examined our approval addiction. We were encouraged to always ask ourselves “WHY are we doing the things we’re doing?” We should be sure that we’re seeking God’s approval over man’s, remembering that “People may validate WHAT we do, but Jesus validates WHO we are”. This week, work on living out Matthew 5:16, bringing others to see the glory of God in everything you do! After all, “It’s not about us”.
Week one of our series Addiction examined our addiction to distraction, specifically with technology. How can you set aside the things of this world to better focus on Jesus this week?
The final week of our Taboo series covered gender and sexuality. While these are divisive topics in our world today, we believe that God speaks clearly and both in His Word. Remember-speak the truth in love!
Week 2 of our series Taboo dealt with the following question: what does it mean to be truly pro life? Yes we believe in advocating for the unborn. But we also believe that we are called to care for the least of these in the world (Matthew 25:31-46). Go love people well in the name of Jesus!
Week 1 of our series Taboo dealt with Faith and Politics. Our faith should inform every part of our lives, including how we navigate our politically charged world!
Week 3 of our How to… series dealt with how to read our Bibles. We know we should, but where do we start? How do we think through what we’re reading?
Week two of our series How to covered prayer. Be intentional to find time and just have a simple conversation with God. He already knows everything you’re going to tell Him-this is a relationship building faith exercise!
This week we talked about how to connect. We looked at Act 2:42-47 to see how the early church did this. Our four steps were to go to church, fellowship, share great meals, and pray together.
Week 2 of our series Into the Unknown featured a panel of our friends from Young Adults sharing their wisdom and insight into life after high school.
Into the Unknown is a two week miniseries dealing with the future. On Sunday we looked at James 4:13-16 and discussed that life is short, precious, and meaningful.
This week we were privileged to hear from some of our soon to be graduates. They shared about what God has taught them through their high school years and some wisdom for our underclassmen.
This week we were privileged to hear from some of our soon to be graduates. They shared about what God has taught them through their high school years and some wisdom for our underclassmen.
Week 2 of our miniseries Listen to the Music challenged us to consider what we’re listening to. Garbage in leads to garbage out. We also examined the connection between Scripture (in this case Ezekiel 37:1-14) and worship lyrics.
Week one of our series "Listen to the Music" featured our Worship Pastor, Jacob Russo, defining worship as more than just music while examining the important role music plays in our lives.
Our two part series Listen to the MusicThe final week of our series All the Feels featured guest speaker Dr. Gene Beckner, who covered the topic of depression.
Week 3 of our series All the Feels dealt with anxiety, which is something that approximately 1 in every 3 teenagers deal with. Remember-there is hope and help if you're in that valley right now.
Week 2 of our series All the Feels had an awesome guest speaker-Lynne Neipp. We dealt with bitterness and resentment and looked at Ephesians 4:21-32. We all need to take stock of our relationships and take steps to be people who prioritize forgiveness.
Week 1 of our series All the Feels talked about love. How does the Bible define it? 1 Corinthians 13:1-7 was our primary passage. Are you loving God? Self? Others?
Our panel of Kevin Nunnery, Lynne Neipp, and Chris Burch answer student submitted questions on a variety of topics.
Our panel of Kevin Nunnery, Robzy Bolin, and JC Thompson answer student submitted questions on a variety of topics.
Old School week two looked at Genesis 4:1-8, the story of Cain and Abel. We asked three key questions: what am I giving to God, why am I angry, and who do I need to forgive.
Week 1 of our series Old School features some more traditional liturgical elements of a worship service, some of which you'll hear in the podcast. Our message focused on Adam and Eve's response to God after the fall in Genesis 3:8-13.
We concluded our Misfit Toys series by looking at the twelve men closest to Jesus. He called an eclectic, unqualified, young group, and He still calls the unlikely like you and me!
Week 1 of our series Misfit Toys examines the life of Mephibosheth, whose story takes him from brokenness to beauty. His story is our story, because we are never too broken for Jesus.
Community Group leader David Townsend led us through John 16:16-33 in week 8 of our Upper Room series. We focused on John 16:33-the last thing Jesus says directly to the disciples in the upper room.
Week 7 of our series Upper Room covers John 16:1-15, with our primary focus being what Jesus said about the Holy Spirit.
Week 6 of our Upper Room series covered John 15:18-27 where Jesus spoke on persecution. We spent time praying for our brothers and sisters all around the world-may we continue to do so daily!
Week three of our Upper Room series deals with John 14:1-14. As we walk through the text, we consider five questions about our beliefs.
Week 2 of our Upper Room series covers the second half of John 13. We juxtapose the responses and subsequent actions of Peter and Judas to the words of Jesus.
Week 1 of our Upper Room series covers John 13:1-17, where Jesus washes the feet of His disciples and commends us to serve as He did.
The final week of our Life of the Party series dealt with romantic relationships and sex. While this is perhaps an uncomfortable topic to discuss in church, we must address it because almost everything in the world revolves around it.
Are we caught up in chasing the things of this world? Look back with us at week 2 of our series “Life of the Party.”
Our back to school series is called Life if the Party. We’ll be exploring integrity (week 1), boundaries and wise choices (week 2), and romantic relationships (week 3). Join us August 15, 22, and 29.
