Today is the final day of Elder Abuse awareness month, and Deb Burton has some helpful tips on what to do to help prevent, or report elder abuse with the seniors you know and love!
If you, or someone you know is in immediate danger dial 911!
Rhode Island law requires any person who has reasonable cause to believe that an elderly person has been abused to report it to the Office of Healthy Aging (OHA). Failure to report abuse of a person 60 or older can result in a fine of up to $1,000. Report suspicion of Elder Abuse and Self Neglect to OHA: 401-462-0555.

Deborah Royster is the Assistant Director, Office for Older Americans. Before joining the Bureau, Ms. Royster served as Chief Executive Officer of Seabury Resources for Aging, a nonprofit organization that provides affordable housing, transportation, care management and other support services to older adults and family caregivers in the Washington, D.C. region. Ms. Royster is a graduate of the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia School of Law.
