In this episode we dive into some headline news, the department of education is announcing layoffs, Tucker Carlson sat down with Chris Cuomo, and Ukraine has said they’re willing to agree to a ceasefire with Russia.
I sometimes worry I sound like too much of a Trump fan boy these days, but the fact is I have been enjoying much of the policy decisions and moves his second term is bringing. I mean what former libertarian turned who knows what wouldn’t enjoy hearing that the Department of Education is so worried about being shut down they’re preemptively performing layoffs?
There’s a big “will they won’t they” when it comes to the war in Ukraine, but after recent defeats Zelensky is saying he’s willing to agree to a cease fire if Putin will… Great timing as always on his part.
Cuomo and Tucker make for interesting conversations. Part of me laments that these kinds of conversations are not the norm but it’s interesting to watch these two insiders turned outsiders cross rhetorical swords. One thing that stands out to me is how Cuomo still wants to defend the institutions and sees those of us challenging them as a threat. It links to something I’ve noticed about this New American Right - we’re far more concerned with pragmatic solutions to complicated problems because idealism got us into the mess we have today.

Then we pivot and I discuss “sad women” the algorithm kept showing me videos of sad women, either sad because they couldn’t find the mate they wanted, sad because they didn’t understand what a relationship was about, or sad because they were… well… psycho. We discuss how we’ve all gotten better at pattern recognition and how we can spot the psychos without knowing all the “facts.” Turns out you can judge a book by its cover.

The mission of better sensemaking continues! I remember growing up, people would talk about politics in terms of a pendulum swinging. A pendulum is a weight hung from a fixed point so it can swing freely backward and forward. For most of the 21st century and arguably the late 20th century, this symbolic pendulum manifested in supreme court decisions has swung “left.” Only recently has the court become more “conservative” and so we watch as the pendulum swings “right.” What does this mean for our polity? In this episode we dive into the recent “revelations” by the Washington Post confirming what so many of us already knew - the United States had direct knowledge of the Nordstream attack last year months before it occurred.
While reading the piece we will analyze the form these kinds of stories take. After all - in order to maintain credibility press outlets do eventually need to report on the facts. The key word being “eventually” this is another great example of “narrative discipline” in action. They allow for the facts of something to be incorporated to the news cycle, and create enough plausible deniability to justify the original false propaganda.

The topic of Sri Lanka will lead us very well into a segment questioning whether the bad guys are anti-fragile or not. This was inspired by my recent appearance on Kingpilled where Matt Erickson and I went over a piece that discussed (you guessed it) “post libertarians” part of the feedback we received was criticism for how we characterize “The Cathedral” as being anti-fragile. You’ll notice there isn’t a snappy intro to this video like prior interviews. I really enjoy making them, but I can’t fit it into my production time anymore. There are too many things I want to cover! So from now on I’ll open interviews solo and bring the guest in (like every other podcast you listen to).
I haven’t released a solo episode, but I’ve recently sat down with a few other podcasters you should definitely check them out.

I recently sat down with Josiah who goes by @sodokupolitburo on Twitter. One of the reasons I started a podcast was to explore ideas, how people think fascinates me, especially when someone comes at it from an unorthodox place.
I don’t think I do a disservice Josiah when I say he has incredible instincts for how systems come together, but how he gets there won’t be familiar to most people.
This is an interview you’ll want to listen to closely.

I decided to host a Twitter Spaces for an AMA on the essay I have at postlibertarianmoment.com, I opened talking about a Twitter Spat between a so-called “libertarian” editor of Reason Magazine. While you might think it’s an empty twitter exchange, there were some interesting points to pull out.
Then I took questions, which turned into a protracted conversation about the Archotropism framework which I should have been more prepared for, but I think the exchange was interesting.
I conclude the hour talking about how the state of Michigan is charging the parents of a recent school shooter, and I ask - why not the school as well?

What you’re about to listen to is an unmoderated debate between myself and @LiquidZulu (YouTube).
Our basic resolution read:
Resolved: "The executive orders passed by Gov Abbot in TX banning vaccine mandates for any entity is equally as oppressive as the executive orders issued by President Biden requiring vaccine mandates for business with more than 100 workers"
I took the negative, he took the positive.
We also agreed to use the following definition for the non-aggression principle
The non-aggression principle (also called the non-aggression axiom, or the anti-coercion or zero aggression principle or non-initiation of force) is an ethical stance which asserts that "aggression" is inherently illegitimate. "Aggression" is defined as the "initiation" of physical force against persons or property, the threat of such, or fraud upon persons or their property. In contrast to pacifism, the non-aggression principle does not preclude violent self-defense. The principle is a deontological (or rule-based) ethical stance.
This debate should be of interest to all libertarians, and while we didn't part in agreement, I thank @LiquidZulu for taking the time to come on my show.
