Chris continues our series in Isaiah, looking at chapter 5. We hear about the vineyard imagery of the chapter and how this imagery is echoed in Jesus' teachings. We also go through the six woes that Isaiah describes and the hope that can be found in this passage despite these._________________________________________Key Question What kind of fruit is the vineyard of your life producing now? Fruit is the visible evidence of what it is we’re trusting and remaining in.1. Fruit in our character (who we’re becoming) Fruit is not first what you do, but who you’re becoming.Examples:• Are you becoming more patient or more irritable?• More humble or more defensive?• More teachable or more cynical?• More grateful or more entitled?• If God is the Holy one – what 1 thing might you change2. Fruit in our relationships (how we treat people) Isaiah’s vineyard failed because it produced bloodshed instead of justice. So fruit shows up in how we love others.Examples:• How you speak to your spouse, children, housemates, or colleagues• Whether your presence brings peace or tension• Whether you move toward forgiveness or bitterness3. Fruit in our habits and desires (what we run after) Isaiah 5 exposes what the people loved and pursued.Examples:• What you reach for when you’re stressed, tired, or bored• How you use your evenings, weekends, and money• Whether you’re increasingly shaped by Scripture and prayer, or by distraction and excess4. Fruit in our obedience (what our faith produces) Not perfection—but direction and Faithful obedience.Examples:• A growing willingness to repent quickly• A softer heart to God’s correction• A desire to obey even when it costs• Do I hide my sin, or do respond in repentance and faith – being grateful for God’s grace, not abusive of it. 5. Chris brings our series in Colossians to a close with a short summary of the whole series, and then by preaching from the last few verses of the book. In this passage Paul ends his letter by addressing the specific people the letter is addressed to and signing it off. Chris goes over all the people that are named in the passage, and teaches us what we can learn form it about church community and connection.Our 'Colossians: Christ in You' series will be going through Paul's letter to the church in Colossae, a letter sent whilst he was in prison. Paul wrote this letter to encourage them and also address the issues that Epaphras, their leader, had raised and to challenge them to a greater devotion to Jesus. Jonah had a massive ministry, but a sinful heart. Malcolm completes our series in Jonah chapter 4 showing us how Jonah was a work in progress and so are we.Jonah is a great story with so many insights into our heart attitudes, God's compassion and His relentlessness to forgive those who repent.The Lord is a God of boundless compassion not just for ‘us’ (the people of God) but for everyone. Jonah is the object of God’s compassion throughout the book but so also are the pagan sailors and the Ninevites. At the end is the question – “Should I not pity Ninevah?” this leaves us with the question – Do we have hearts of compassion for others, like God does?Jonah at times seems way more concerned with the plant that perished (4:10) than with concern for the Ninevites. In this talk Rob tells us that he follows Jesus, because it means that he is never alone. Rob shares stories throughout his life of how Jesus has been with him during times of isolation and encourages us to know Jesus in that way and also support others who feel isolated, leading them to knowing Jesus.

Celebrating the lives that God has given us is so special and important that we gave over this whole Sunday morning meeting to celebrating mothers. Compassion work with churches across the globe to bring education, poverty relief and support to children most in need.At Hope Church we care about serving those amongst us and in our community who are most in need. This comes from Jesus teaching in Matthews gospel.“the last will be first, and the first will be last” - Matthew 20:16"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these you did for me." - Matthew 25:40“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” - Matthew 18:11In these verses we see that the last will be first, the least will be given to and the lost will be saved. As we hear from guests who are working hard to serve those least fortunate we will hear more about the needs our communities face and be encouraged to continue to play our part in remembering to help others and share Jesus.

The little town Bethlehem appears throughout the bible. It's known as a place of hospitality and kindness. It's a place where outsiders and the marginalised are looked after. It's a place of refuge and a place of fruitfulness. It's a place where refugees like Rahab find shelter and the desperate like Ruth find food. It's a place where redemption and restoration are found.It's not a big, powerful, political city, it doesn't carry much kudos among world leaders, kings and princes. It's not an economic hub or philisophical gathering place. But it is the place where God chose to send his one and only son to be born in a manger.On Sunday 11th December at 4pm, Hope Church celebrated our Carol Service, 'O Little town of Bethlehem'. This talk is the first in our new series in the book of Ruth. In Ruth Chapter 1, verses 1 to 5 we see that things go from bad to worse. There is a famine, there is baroness, there is death of loved ones. How are we meant to cope with the difficult circumstances in our lives? Chris encourages us that even in the challenges, God is able to work things to good for those who love him.

When Joshua and the Israelites crossed into the promised land, they took memorial stones out of the river and set them up high, as a reminder of God's faithfulness to them. Throughout the pandemic, God has been with us and we've received lots from him, but rather than leaving those lessons in lockdown, we took this Sunday to remind ourselves of all that God has taught us.

In Sundays talk Simon looked at some of the tensions that come with a growing church. Specifically here was the mistreatment of people from a different background. The church overcome this by growing a diverse leadership team and making sure that they are caring for all those among them that are less well off.
As we continue to grow as a church we'll face similar challenges and tensions, but lets all pray that we would be servant hearted, following Jesus example and continuing to grow into a church as God intended.

2000 years ago in Acts chapter 5 the apostles we're tried to be silent on the gospel, and it's possible that today, whilst the methods might not be flogging others try to silence the message of the gospel in our community.
In this talk we look at the boldness and courage of the apostles, we remind ourselves that the Holy spirit is the principle agent of witnessing and that even when we receive negative feedback we can rejoice as we join in with many who have gone before us. Let's just make sure that if we're going to offend people, we do it by talking about Jesus and not secondary christian issues.

In Genesis chapter 8 God brings Noah out of a year locked up in the ark, and amazingly the first thing Noah does is pray and worship. In chapter 9 God gives Noah an amazing covenant promise which he marks with the rainbow.

In Galatians chapter 2 verse 16 to Chapter 3 verse 10, we see Paul helping the Galatian church understand what it means not just to be saved by Grace, but also to live by Grace. In this Sermon Chris shares how its easy for Christians to veer into attitudes of legalism (following the rules for acceptance) compared to understanding grace as a licence to sin and instead compels us all to understand what living in Grace means.
