A couple of months ago, Jeff and Bryan discussed the merits of spinoffs and reboots. They decided that, like them or not, it is better than having nothing to watch. Because of the vastness of the Star Trek TV catalog, it was not discussed. In this episode Jeff and Bryan, mostly Bryan, will talk about their feelings about everything Star Trek TV.

With the expansion of properties created by Douglas Adams after his death, Jeff and Bryan ask each other this question a lot... If you do not want others to expand his works, would you rather have nothing at all? The answer is always YES. However, there are mixed feelings about it. So, Jeff and Bryan are going to discuss reboots and sequels of other works in the sci-fi/fantasy genre and point out their opinions of the ones that worked and the ones that gave it a good try... even if they haven't seen them.

In 1980, the Doctor Who episode, Shada, was started but never completed and was shelved never to be seen. In 1992, a VHS reconstruction of the episode was released with Tom Baker doing an introduction and filling in missing scenes via narrative description. In 2003, Big Finish did a remake of it with Paul McGann as the Doctor using limited flash animation. In 2017, a version was released as a movie (rather than in six episodic segments) with animated restoration and the original cast doing the voices for the missing scenes. The main focus will be on the 2017 movie, but Jeff and Bryan will touch on all the versions.

Way back in 1998, Jeff and Bryan both bought a brand new CD ROM game with a revolutionary new conversation engine. It was Douglas Adams' Starship Titanic. Fast-forward 28 years and they decided to buy, from GOG.com, a re-released version compatible with todays operating systems. They discovered while playing it that they remembered almost nothing about solving the puzzles. Here they will talk about their feelings about the game and their journey through it. They will also present all the puzzles and their solutions. I would say "spoiler alert," however, you would be hard pressed to remember any of it.

Jeff and Bryan go searching for the unproduced Christmas episode and find something completely unexpected.
Jeff and Bryan discuss, compare, and contrast the two versions of the same basic story represented in the first four episodes of Primary Phase (Fit the First through Fit the Fourth) and on the double LP, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Part One. Is one better than the other? Or, is there a nonexistent, perfect version somewhere in the middle?
Jeff and Bryan thank their listeners and share some of the feedback they received after the first episode.
In this introductory episode, Jeff and Bryan reminisce over how they met and how each discovered The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. They reveal some of their fandoms and mention some other works by other authors they feel are worth reading. Then, finally, they talk about the name of the podcast, what it means to them, and what they hope to accomplish with this podcast.
Here is a list of the books we felt were worth reading and mentioned in this episode...
Neal Stephenson “Cryptonomicon” (1999) & “Seveneves” (2015)
Stephen R Donaldson “Lord Foul’s Bane” The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (1977)
Piers Athony “A Spell for Chameleon” Xanth, Book 1 (1977)
Daniel Quinn “Ishmael” (1992)
Robert A. Heinlein “Stranger in a Strange Land” (1961)
Mary Doria Russell “The Sparrow” (1996)
Paul Theroux “Millroy the Magician” (1993)
Barbara Kingsolver “Prodigal Summer” (2000)
Clifford Simak “Shakespeare’s Planet” (1976) & “The Werewolf Principle” (1967)
