Calvary with Caleb Sookhoo is a word based and spirit filled weekly sermon podcast. Caleb Sookhoo is a firm believer of the Fruit and Gifts of the Holy Spirit. If we call ourselves Christians then we must conduct our lives in a manner that is Christ like. We must have a happy balance of word and spirit in our Christian walk with God. The word and the spirit go hand in hand we cannot separate the both of them. Calvary with Caleb Sookhoo aims to achieve this through sound sermons and real life testimonies of the goodness of God in the lives of His people. Let us not settle to be nominal Christians but disciples of Jesus Christ that take up our cross and follow Him. In a world of subjectivity let us objectively say that Christ is enough.

We continue our series in the Book of Peter. Today we are on 1 Peter 2:13-17. In a world where lawlessness seems to be the order of the day it is important to understand that every society needs law and order to function.
Life is short! We need to make every second count and every second must be worthwhile. The only way that this is possible is by following Christ.
We are called to be the salt and light of the world. In a world void of Christianity evil runs rampant.
We have to let our light shine in a dark and dying world!
Different nations and countries have different sets of rules that the citizens live by.
We are called to be His people.
This means we live to bring glory to Him.
And we His people have the responsibility to uphold His name.
What should be the attitude towards Ascension Day? It's important to take stock of our Christianity. Remember the Holy Week in its detail. Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Resurrection Sunday let it carry weight in our hearts.
Christ is alive! He has been resurrected and during this time centuries ago He was living and walking for everyone to see. All the libraries of the world could not contain the miracles that He performed after His resurrection and before His ascension.
Christ showed Himself to the world as faithful to His Father and His disciples. The question is are you a faithful disciple of Christ?
Where do you place your security? Is it in indulgences, your degree, your social status? All of those things cannot save you and I.
Our security is only in Jesus Christ. Salvation is only found in Christ because of His crucifixion. No good works can save us. In all honesty we cannot save ourselves.
We need our Saviour Jesus Christ!

We start are new sermon series and it’s on the Book of 1 Peter. Peter being one of the original twelve disciples of Jesus Christ.
It’s true that we all have possessions. To place a priority on these possessions is to be materialistic. This is not Christlike by any stretch of the imagination.
Christ must be our most valuable possession. But do we first see His value?
Sometimes in life we have to stop and smell the roses. Inasmuch as we have to work which is biblically encouraged we must also not allow ourselves to get caught up in the rat race.
Regardless of who we are, we all go through life. As Christians we must be steadfast in our faith in the Lord as the Lord is steadfast. Through the ups and downs of life the world must still see Christ in you.

Our sermon is centred on Christmas and truly observing the incarnation of Christ in our hearts. An ancient prophecy foretold about the Messiah was fulfilled in a little town called Bethlehem. This is now forthtold across the world of the Saviour’s birth.
Surely there must be more to this story than meets the eye.
We find ourselves at Chapter 5 of our series in the Book of James.
A corrupt society is highlighted. This was the reality even centuries ago. James helps us navigate through our Christian lives in such a society.
We are to keep our eyes on Jesus while living in said society. We cannot allow ourselves to be influenced by the corrupt ways of the world. In this corrupt world we must show them Christ.
We have arrived at the penultimate chapter of the Book of James, chapter 4.
This week Pastor Caleb preaches on the problem being pride and how it negatively affects our lives and that we must discard this way of living.
Pride will make us take our focus of Christ and slowly but surely we will become more like the world.
Therefore we all must have a friend called Humility.

Chaos can come up for many a reason. Sometimes when there is no order that itself gives room for chaos. Chaos can be self inflicted as well.

Some people feel it is alright to only be drinking the milk of God’s word for the entirety of the Christian life. That thinking goes against what the Bible teaches us. We are to grow in the word of God.
During this global pandemic our Christianity was tested. Our understanding of the scriptures was tested. If we fell short let’s pick up the pieces and grow in Christ.

Forgiveness for some people can be a touchy subject. It an area where we all can say we have common ground. At some point in our lives we all had to forgive the next person. When an offence happens if it is not dealt with correctly it can lead to a lot of emotional harm for the person that is offended and those around him. Bury it is not healthy. Dealing with the offence is what needs to be done. True forgiveness brings you to a place where you forget the pain of the offence. Forgiveness is for you.
In another compelling sermon pastor Caleb expounds why Christ gave the Ascension Gifts ministry to the Church.
Unfortunately this has been an area where a lot abuse has happened across denominations. From favouritism to blatant nepotism we have seen all kinds of poor leadership in the Church. This is not why Christ gave the Ascension Gifts.
Glorifying Christ through the leading of the Holy Spirit is essentially what being a Christian is all about. We have different roles to play but we are all equal before Christ. We must give each other mutual respect.
It’s no secret of the unrest that took place in the South African provinces of Gauteng and Kwazulu Natal recently. Now it’s time for us to rebuild and not allow the devil to divide us with lies. We must hold unto the truth more than ever.
This week I have two guests with me namely Pastor Trevor Thomas and another Pastor who will remain anonymous to protect him and his family. Our anonymous Pastor is black and speaks on a Christian perspective and as a black man.

We are back in lockdown level 4 here in South Africa. The church is being persecuted. The church has always been persecuted and will always be persecuted because of who we belong to. We belong to Christ.
This week's sermon is about getting back to basics. In Joshua Chapter three the children of God cross the Jordan river. The priests carry the ark of the covenant on their shoulders. The waters part. God is faithful to Joshua like how He was faithful to Moses.
They witnessed a move of God. Over and above the many things God did among them. Let us keep Christ at the centre.
How we defined things are very important especially in today’s day and age. Throughout the Bible we see how the children of God were taken captive and indoctrinated by the culture of their captives.
In this week’s sermon Pastor Caleb looks at life before the pandemic and what it will be like afterwards. The phrase new normal is on everyone’s mind. He is the Ancient of Days maybe it’s time for us to go back to the ancient paths.

Waiting on the Lord has many applications. This week Pastor Caleb preaches on one of those applications. Waiting on the Lord in terms of having a hope and an expectation in Him.
We wait on Him to do an established work in our lives. That His plan for our lives comes to past. We seek Him so that Christ can be formed in us. That the Church come to maturity. Secure in our own calling and maturely celebrating others calling.
Elijah comes out of a great battle with the prophets of Baal. He supernaturally defeats them single handed. Jezebel seeks revenge by seeking to kill Elijah. Elijah is on the run and is feeling lonely.
God instead of rebuking him comforts Elijah and restores him like what He did with Peter.
In this week's sermon Pastor Caleb preaches on the still small voice and it's application in our lives. If God is a speaking then it would make sense for us to know how to listen for His voice.
We all go through trials in life. For example this global pandemic has really tested a lot of people. In all honesty we must still hold on to Christ. This week Pastor Caleb ministers on suffering for Christ. Salvation in Christ does not put us in a spiritual bubble. We will still go through fiery trials but we have Christ with us. We suffer until Christ is revealed. Our suffering may be different but we all need Christ to be revealed in our suffering. If we never got sick then we would never know that Christ is our healer. Hold on to Christ.
Pastor Caleb takes a no holds barred approach to this week's sermon. The word of God is infallible, inerrant and inspired by the Holy Spirit. Therefore we are able to fully trust the written word.
Our Christianity is not about going from Egypt to Canaan the land flowing with milk and honey. Our Christianity is about knowing Christ. In Him we live, move and have our being.
Pastor Caleb touches on coronavirus being used by God to clean His church just like how God used Nebuchadnezzar to cleanse the israelites of idol worship.
This weeks sermon is about carrying the tangible presence of God with us. Pastor Caleb trembles as he preaches this sermon that requires us to live consecrated unto the Lord.
When we gather corporately we are in the corporate presence of God but it does not stop there. We are to carry the presence of God as individuals as well.
Christ has paid the ultimate price for our salvation. He died on the cross and rose again from the dead. No other deity has ever done that.
Christ is our Saviour and our Lord. The two cannot be separated. More of Him and less of us. Let us live worthy of our calling. Let us bring praise, glory and honour to His name.

We all have an IQ and EQ but as Christians we also have something called a SQ that's your spiritual quotation. Out SQ waxes and wanes. We have high points and low points in out spirituality.
Sometimes we feel stuck. Like we are not growing in the things of God. It could be a number of things that has caused us not to grow in Christ. In today's sermon Pastor Caleb addresses the issue of renewing our minds in order to grow in Christ.
Mephibosheth was hard a raw deal in life. A nurse dropped him when he was five years old and became lame because of the fall. He also lost his dad and grandfather during the same time.
God sees exactly where we are. Years later God used David to right a wrong in Mephibosheth’s life. The system dropped him but God still came through for him. Be faithful over the little things in life and God will make you ruler over much.
We all have the ability to trust. Sometimes our trust has been abused and that leaves us feeling betrayed. But we must take our cue from children and their child like faith.
We must trust in the Lord. We must find Him first be trustworthy in order to trust Him. Examine the holy scriptures. He has never failed and He will never fail you.
Over the past few weeks repentance has been a theme in Pastor Caleb’s sermons. This week we look at the reason why Israel was allowed to be taken captive and when they repented that is when God delivered them from their captivity.
In our personal lives we cannot have idolatry. Nothing must take the place of Jesus in our lives. The next revival will be a word revival. When we fall in love with the written word and the Word. Let the church of Jesus Christ be truly Christocentric.
In this week’s sermon we Pastor Caleb preaches on having a daily prayer closet and eating our daily bread.
They both go hand in hand. In our prayer closet we must seek the face of the Lord and ask the Holy Spirit to lead us to scripture to meditate on for our daily bread.
The Church of Jesus Christ must come to a place of repentance. Before revival first come repentance. The uncomfortable truth is that we all became familiar with God and took Him for granted.
We need a sincere cry of repentance. We need to come back to our first love. We need to fall deeper in love with Jesus Christ. John the Baptist words of repentance echo during this time
As we examine Daniel chapter 1 we draw parallels to the word of God and our present global pandemic. We see that God was still faithful in their captivity.
The children of God had to go through the captivity. Likewise we have to go through this pandemic. We cannot lose sight of the fact that we are Christians even now we must cling tighter to the old rugged cross.

The Church of Jesus Christ is going through a judgement from the Lord and is being persecuted both at the same time. This conversation must be had on both fronts.
There are many ways in which God speaks to us today. Namely the written inspired word of God, His still small voice, signs and dreams and visions. As we approach Christmas it is important to not allow ourselves to be distracted by the commercial side of it. Jesus was born as a child but only fulfilled His purpose as an adult when He was crucified to the cross. Christmas to Easter is a growth process in each believers life. Not all mountains have a spiritual connotation some are just recorded geographically. Mountains represent opposition. Coram Deo is a Latin phrase found in the Latin Vulgate. It means “in the presence of God or before the face of God”. Essentially it means living before God. In this week’s sermon we understand how costly our salvation is and that we cannot take it lightly. We must live the word of God back to God. He is watching us so let us please Him.
