The ritual of The Lord’s Supper (sometimes called communion) was the only ritual given to us by Jesus when He walked this Earth. He affirmed Baptism but He didn’t initiate it. We have other rituals in the scriptures like the laying on of hands, anointing with oil, and confession of sins but again others gave those rituals to us. This makes the Lord’s Supper unique. The more we study the Lord’s Supper, we are reminded that it is much like a finely cut diamond twirling in the Sun, every turn giving off a different sparkle. Throughout 2024, the Teaching Team will be sharing a different facet of the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month.

What is the church? How should we think about our church here at Christ Center? We will be exploring these questions and more. Church. A word that is often said, not often thought about, and variously described as home, irrelevant, oppressive, boring, or a building. But, the church is actually designed to be, could actually be, is at times, the most amazing space in the entire universe. Seriously, there is no more powerful space in all creation than the space in which the church is. Not because the church is there, but because where the church is, Jesus is, and Jesus, He drives out darkness, crushes oppression, heals wounds, embraces the untouchable, dispenses wisdom , speaks truth, makes dead hearts alive and blind eyes see. What is the church? The most amazing space ever!

God often spoke to people through dreams, challenging individuals like Peter in a dream (Acts 10) and warning Joseph in a dream (Matt 2:13). Daniel, too, experienced dreams revealing future events (Dan 7:1-3). According to Acts 2:17, in the last days, all generations will dream and have visions.
T.E. Lawrence's quote resonates, "All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake up in the day to find it was vanity. However, the dreamers of the day are deemed dangerous, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, making it possible."

Be On the Look Out everywhere. Why? Because God is moving and His Spirit is working to draw all kinds of people to faith in Christ. This Sunday we will look at one chapter with three stories of very different people who had very different experiences of the very same same good news that brought God's peace, power, and love into the center of their lives.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, we will be doing a series called PREPARE. Picture a green log in a fire. It heats up for a long while before it bursts into flame. That is Christmas. There was a certain waiting before the Messiah came. There is purpose in the waiting. It is a season of preparation. We will look at the ingredients of preparation: Hope, Peace, Joy, Love, and, finally, Jesus. Please join us for our Advent Series and let us all learn how to PREPARE for Jesus to be born anew in all of our hearts.

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:20-21

- Did your parents struggle with money? Were your basic needs not met?
- Were you often overlooked by your parents? Did you not feel listened to? Or was love withheld from you?
- Were you abandoned by a family member? Did your birth order seem to cause you to be overlooked?
- Did you grow up in a home where grades and performance were the focus?
- Did you feel unimportant? Was perfection expected of you? Did you feel as though you didn't measure up?
- Did you feel overly pressured to make a difference in the world? Was service and legacy always placed above your needs?
If you can relate to any of these questions, then you are not alone. So does the rest of the human race. We are often at the mercy of these issues well into adulthood. How we answer these questions determine how we treat others and how we handle issues of identity, behavior, and beliefs. "There has never been a more... time than now." Hyperbole? Yes, but as our experience of serving Christ in culture changes, hyperbole is one coping technique. For many of us, it FEELS like it's harder than ever to walk faithfully with Jesus. But the truth is, there have been many... disintegrating cultures, more divided countries, polarized politics, and challenging times to be a Christian. The reality is that every place, every time, every person has presented unique challenges to the gospel and unique reflections of God's common grace. We, like all churches throughout the centuries and across the globe, need to hear Peter's powerful reminder to some of the first generation of Christians of who we are, where we are, and how we are to live Christ-centered lives in an "I"-centered culture.

The Greek word for "disciple" is "mathetes". "Mathetes" when translated means learner. As children of God we are called disciples. We are to be in a constant state of learning. Join Pastor Steve as he gives us some principles related to becoming a good learner.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." A cute, memorable, and completely WRONG nursery rhyme. Words can hurt. But, words can also heal. Some people's words can tear down while other people's words can build up. When we listen to words, we give them power. Here at Christ Center one of our 5 values is following Jesus, which seems easy at first glance but becomes a bit more challenging in daily living. Often it is difficult because of our thinking patterns. By nature we think earthly; our thoughts often come from a place of self: self-protection, self-importance, and self-righteousness. The idea of thinking again is a reminder that often our instinctual thought processes go the ways of the world, and yet Jesus whom we want to follow taught a different way of thinking. This week Pastor Steve and Steffanie Haney kicked off our JOY series. They talked about the difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is a feeling dependent on external circumstances and whether or not our expectations are being met. Joy is being present to Jesus. Therefore since Jesus is the essence of the Gospel or good news then wherever the Gospel goes you can find joy. Steve and Steffanie challenged us to reach out during the Holidays and in doing so we would find Joy. “He who refreshes others will themselves be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25

God created us for a relationship with Him and then others. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” And let's face it, relationships can be difficult. There is a term in the computer gaming world called a “HACK”. A hack is when you are so familiar with the code of a certain video game that you can rework the code to gain an advantage. The Bible is the Christian code and when we become familiar enough with it we can use these hacks for positive. We will be exploring some principles (hacks) that will help us win in our relationships.

We all desire approval. We all want to be accepted. What happens when this turns unhealthy. It's called living OUTSIDE IN. Pastor Steve looks at the parable of the pharisee and the tax collector. The pharisee lived OUTSIDE IN and Jesus exposed how wrong it was to live this way. In part 2, Pastor Steve will look at how the tax collector lived INSIDE OUT, and Jesus commended him for it. One of the problems with our current culture and especially social media is the realization that everyone is doing more than you. They are traveling more, they are celebrating more, their lives have more milestones, they have seemingly fewer problems, they accomplish more and a million other indicators that your life is obviously sub-par when compared with everyone else. Comparison can be deadly. We are going to look at what the Bible says about comparison and discuss some principles from God’s Word about overcoming it.
Ever find yourself feeling like you are just “NOT ENOUGH” for all the things? We have a human tendency to want to be enough! Show ourselves strong and effective. The problem is we all hit human limitations. There is a reason for this! We were made to receive our ability to do some things empowered by our Creator. When we try in our own strength without His empowerment we eventually hit a wall! Be inspired as you listen to prioritize THE MOST IMPORTANT THING!
When bad things happen, there are a few ways we typically respond. In this message of I QUIT we will look at the Bible to learn some ways of responding to bad things that are healthy and we will also take a look at how we should NOT respond.

In His loving and compassionate way by asking questions Jesus gives humanity the dignity of freedom and thought and will.
