What role does horticulture play in our wellbeing? Guy Barter Chief Horticulturalist at RHS Wisley, joins us with top tips on Focussing on what Matters to him: Horticulture & Wellbeing.

After an early career as microbiologist he studied Horticulture at Bath University. After working in the horticultural industry Guy ran the plant trials at the Royal Horticultural Society’s garden at Wisley. There followed three years as a journalist for Gardening Which?, before returning to the Royal Horticultural Society to run the members’ gardening advice service for 18 years, which answers about 90,000 gardening questions per year.

What has enabled one of the UK’s top chef and food educators to continuously stay at the top of his game?  Masterchef Gary MacLean wants us to Focus on What Matters to him:  Being a Lifelong Learner. How do we really focus? The importance of connecting with nature and people is what matters most to Charlie Brown. She has been a professional photographer since 2005. Her photography has graced many a wall.

Whether it is capturing a moment, a smile, a surprise, or looking deep into a landscape for an interesting detail, enhancing the light, or exaggerating dark…..Charlie has made a successful living from avidly watching people.

During lockdown one she captured the silences of her local forest to combine photography with wellbeing. She will be telling us how these two worlds combine and sharing her top tips for “connecting with people and nature” through the eyes of a professional photographer.

Matt Wiltshire has worked in the tech sector for 30 years; co-founded Source Consulting, In 2015 Matt was diagnosed with bowel cancer which is now advanced and incurable. Having struggled to find anyone in a similar position he blogged BowelBloke.com as a way to raise awareness of the disease, and to raise funds for charity. Building on this desire to help men improve their well-being, and utilising the entrepreneurial skills and business acumen acquired over his career, he created The Cancer Club.  His story is compelling with lessons for all of us to Live in the Present and Focus on what Matters.

Perseverance & Collaboration

Moving Forward

Luca Franchini started his career in football at the age of 8 and ultimately playing for FC Internazionale Milano and as Italian International. Creativity and not Knowing! 

How do we improve our ability to cope with uncertainty?  What are the conditions for creativity?  Steve Chapman is an Artist, TEDX Speaker, and writer on helping people to nurture their own creativity.  He will share how he uses silence, experimentation and spontaneity in his work.  He lives by the moto “Leap then look”.  He is here to encourage us to walk towards the unknown, with intent and adventure and not to fear it.  His TEDX talk “Dancing with my inner critic” has amassed over 135,000 views and he is in demand working as a consultant and coach to people who want a creative route out of being stuck!
