{Confessing my not so innocent secrets as a pastor’s daughter growing up in church.}
Did you grow up in church? Are you questioning the faith, traditions, and values that were instilled upon you as a child? Or maybe later as an adult? If so, then this podcast is for you. Come along with me on my journey as I deconstruct my faith as a pastor’s kid in the evangelical church, and decolonize my faith as an asian-filipino-american.
In this episode, I had the honor and privilege of interviewing Eugene Kim who is a former pastor of over 20 years. He talks about growing up Korean American, what led him to becoming a pastor, and why he stepped down from his position. We also explore what is a “successful church” in this decade and talks about his new endeavor called New Wine Collective.
In this episode, I interview Sharon Kwon who grew up as a Pastor's kid in a Korean American church. She talks about reconciling with her Korean identity, growing up with strict religious parents, and finding her own faith. Sharon is now a therapist, working with immigrant families and people with religious trauma.
I hope you enjoy hearing our candid and fun conversation as two kindred hearts, about healing from our past as pastor's daughters.
Notable Quotes:
"with therapy, you're getting agency, it's more [about] empowering you, the client, to make these decisions, to take these actions, instead of...waiting for God to make things better".

Key Takeaways: -Growing up in church didn’t give me the choice to choose this faith. -Reading my bible and praying didn’t help me overcome post-partum depression. -I’m on a journey to own my faith or walk away. -It’s all about the journey, not the destination.
Quotes: “If there was this god-shaped hole in me, then why wasn’t God filling it?” “I struggled to measure up to the expectations my parents had for me as the perfect christian girl.”
