We’re highlighting one of Hilton Head Island’s most meaningful traditions: the Hilton Head Island Community Thanksgiving Dinner, hosted each year at Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks. What started in 1999 as a way to bring neighbors together has grown into a cherished event that welcomes over 1,000 guests each year. Volunteers from every corner of the island come together to share the day with others, ensuring that no one spends Thanksgiving alone. The Community Thanksgiving Dinner has become a true reflection of what makes the Lowcountry special—hospitality, generosity, and a deep sense of connection. Andrew Carmines, the owner of Hudson’s, and Lesley Kyle, one of the organizers of the event, join us to talk about the history and mission of the event.

“Mama” Orchid Paulmeier, the owner of One Hot Mama’s, has been serving up Southern barbecue that’s been a staple here since 2007. But Orchid’s talents go way beyond Hilton Head. She’s competed on The Next Food Network Star, and just this summer, she was back on national TV in BBQ Brawl. She’s also been honored as a South Carolina Chef Ambassador and even cooked at the legendary James Beard House. From opening a brand-new One Hot Mama’s location to bringing her flavor to festivals and big stages, Orchid keeps the spirit of Southern barbecue alive while making the Lowcountry proud.

We’re honored to welcome two distinguished guests whose work and service embody resilience, leadership, and commitment to others. JR Brown is the founder of Operation Patriots Front Of Base, also known as OPFOB, a local nonprofit organization with a mission to create a safe, supportive environment where veterans and first responders can reconnect, heal, and find renewed purpose through outdoor activities and camaraderie. Joining him is Vice Admiral John Dixon Stufflebeem, who served 39 years in the United States Navy. Many remember him for the clear, steady voice he provided to the nation during Pentagon briefings following the attacks of September 11th and the early days of military operations in Afghanistan. With Veterans Day approaching, this is the perfect time to reflect on the impact of organizations like OPFOB and the lives they touch.

Today we’re joined by two people who know the South Carolina Lowcountry inside and out — travel writers and longtime explorers Lynn and Cele Seldon. Together, they’ve spent decades telling stories about destinations near and far, with bylines in publications like Southern Living, USA Today, and National Geographic Traveler. Now, they’ve turned their attention to a place they know best — our own backyard — with their new book, 100 Things to Do in the South Carolina Lowcountry Before You Die. It’s a guide that captures everything we love about this region. We’ll talk with Lynn and Cele about what went into writing the book and some of the surprising places and experiences that even longtime locals might not know about.

It's a sobering statistic ... 22 veterans succumb to suicide every day in the United States. There’s one organization in the Lowcountry that has dedicated its mission to helping veterans find a like-minded community. We sat down with Operation Patriots FOB founder JR Brown and board member Joe McNamara to talk about their mission and how the business community can get involved.
