Formula One is the most expensive sport in the world and not many people know much about it—especially two Canadian women living in the heart of the Prairies. Catch Shanika and Caitlin, newbies to Formula 1, give their un-educated hot takes and teach listeners about what they learn about the sport as they learn it.
The drivers came to our home!! The Canadian Grand Prix was a little wet and a little wild. Unsurprisingly, Max Verstappen took the top spot but, we were way more interested in what happened to the rest of the grid.

At least the 2023 Spanish GP was less mid than the 2022 Spanish GP. We don't normally expect much excitement from this race, and while it wasn't an exhilarating race this year either, it was an exciting result for Mercedes in particular. Is this race signaling the start of a Mercedes resurgence on podiums this season? Only time will tell. Listen and let us know what you thought of the Spanish GP

The Monaco Grand Prix surprised us! Of course, it was a little boring but, the rain, and the bad luck of a few drivers, made the race exciting. Max Verstappen pulls off a masterful win and extends his lead ahead of his teammate, Sergio Perez, who struggled all weekend. Mercedes came with a new upgrade — side pods! The Japanese Grand Prix was...interesting but, we were way more interested in the fallout from the Cost Cap (yes Toto said he would spend to the high heavens), Pierre confirming Alpine, and the rumors that his and Esteban Ocon's family can't attend the same race, and the now infamous tractor incident.

Gotta admit when it really wasn't our race. Great drives by Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz but...with Red Bull and Max having a car that no one can challenge, the season feels like it is dragging on.
Max will be the world champion and many teams and drivers will need to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to do better next year.

The drivers came to Montreal and gave us a show! Red Bull continued their weird blend of dominance (Max) and failure (engine issues for Checo), Lewis Hamilton finally got back on the podium and the Mercedes tractor FINALLY showed a little bit of pace, Charles LeClerc battled from the back and many teams were...unremarkable (here's looking at you McLaren, and Alpha Tauri).

We should have predicted that Baku would. be unpredictable. From turn one the race was a little all over the place: Sergio Perez taking the lead, the Ferraris and Ferrari-powered teams losing all power, George Russell having a rather lonely race while Lewis Hamilton destroyed his back working his way up the grid, and the Alpha Tauri crew using duct tape the best way possible.

Where do we begin? The last 9 months came to a nail-biting end with Lewis Hamilton falling second to Max Verstappen. We had hoped for a drama-less race but, there are at least 2 calls by the FIA that raised our eyebrows. One letting Lewis Hamilton cut a corner and the other, a strange restart after a Safety Car costing Lewis the championship.
Though the race is over, the battle is far from it as Mercedes is appealing the latter decision. There is a chance they may take this to the courts. We also saw all over Twitter that fans wanted Massi to get the boot.
There are things to celebrate though! Max is the first Dutch driver to be named World Champion, Yuki Tsunoda finished in P4, Mercedes won the Constructors Championship and so much more.

This Grand Prix was a mess. From the collisions in F2 to the ethics of racing in a country that continues to violate human rights to Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton not being able to keep it on the track. On this episode of Get Checkered, Canadian Formula One Fans, Shanika (@shanabeysinghe) and Caitlin (@caconne), share their thoughts on the Turkish Grand Prix held at the Istanbul Park Circuit. This is a loaded episode - full of weekly updates, track facts, qualification highlights, race day overview, and a rundown of the post-race interviews. There was a drizzle of rain throughout the whole race, and there were several different tyre strategies attempted (not all of them deemed very "successful"). We heard a strong difference of opinion between Lewis and the Mercedes team, and the question of "should Lewis just have stayed out? Did he really need to change his tyres?" will be a point of discussion for several days. On the other side of the Mercedes garage, pure joy as Valtteri finally reached his 10th Grand Prix victory after a wonderful drive the whole day, and we have the two bulls to round up the podium.

Welcome back for another episode of Get Checkered! This week, the girls go over several weekly headlines and do a special on Motor Generator Units (MGUs).
