This third and final podcast will briefly be exploring the on going bathroom bills across America and how this is reflected within cultural texts such as Boys Don't Cry.
Podcast 2 of 3 looks into transgender imprisonment and criminalization, with applications to cultural texts such as Boys Don't Cry (1999) and the 2016 documentary Free Cece. Focusing on two real life trans people, Brandon Teena and Cece Mcdonald, this podcast explores how trans people are both victimised and criminalized, especially trans people of colour.
The first in a series of three mini podcasts looking at the transgender body in relation to ongoing laws and legislation seeking to both protect and exclude transgender individuals from society. Podcast 1 will scrutinise the somewhat controversial perspective of the transgender body as a medical condition, taking into consideration the economics consequently related to transgender treatment and surgeries. This initial podcast will also be looking at both existing and proposed laws to disqualify transgender individuals from being provided medical care to aid transition, as well as the trans military ban in progress as put forward by current US president Donald Trump. The aim of this podcast is to explore the problems such legislation can create for the transgender community and society nationwide, and how this is represented in cultural texts.
