Or have you only had good intentions of doing these things?
For every action, or lack there of, there is a consequence.
This is exactly what happened to someone who reached out to me for a critique on her Etsy store.
She asked me how I get so much traffic to my store, how I get so many sales, and why she is struggling to get the same traction.
After I took a good look at her store and gave her step-by-step directions on how she can improve her listings, get more traffic to her store and get more sales, my advice was ignored.
A couple months later I looked back at her store, and while my store has surpassed 6000 orders, her store only got two.
In this episode, I will share the struggles that this shop owner was going through, the exact advice that I gave her, how that advice would’ve helped her, and a breakdown of what happened as a result of her ignoring my advice.

This episode is part 4 of a 4-part book series where I’ll be sharing and discussing advice from my favorite books on entrepreneurship, money & success, and how the advice from these books are helping me make more in my business this year.
This episode is called "what separates the rich from the poor", and the book I’ll be sharing from is called Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki.
Kiyosaki advocates the importance of financial literacy, financial independence, financial intelligence, and building wealth through investing in assets and starting and owning businesses.
He grew up learning from two fathers - his own father, who struggled financially even though he was very educated and had a high position in his job, and his friend’s father, who didn’t finish high school but left his son a financial empire.
Let’s get into the difference between the mentalities of his poor dad and his rich dad and why both of their lives went in such different directions - why his poor dad struggled with money despite his degrees and his high position job, and why his rich dad succeeded financially without a formal education.
This episode is part 3 of a 4-part book series where I’ll be sharing and discussing advice from my favorite books on entrepreneurship, money & success, and how the advice from these books are helping me make more in my business this year.
This episode is called how to think & grow rich, and the book I’ll be sharing from is called Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
It helps entrepreneurs examine the psychological power of thought and the brain in furthering your business financially and also for personal fulfillment.
This is what I’ve always been saying - everything starts with your mindset, and this book breaks down the psychology of successful people and how achieving your big, bold goals starts with your thoughts.
Having the ability to shift and control your thinking is what will make or break you as a business owner.
It will determine whether you succeed in your entrepreneur journey.
So let’s get into 9 of Napoleon Hill’s laws of success as written in Think & Grow Rich.
This episode is part 2 of a 4-part book series where I’ll be sharing and discussing advice from my favorite books on entrepreneurship, money & success, and how the advice from these books are helping me make more in my business this year.
This episode is called how to win & influence your buyers, and the book I’ll be sharing from is called How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie.
Dale Carnegie understood human nature - he discusses the psychology of people and how to use this to build solid relationships and influence people to follow in your direction.
Financial success, Carnegie believed, is due 15 percent to professional knowledge and 85 percent to "the ability to express ideas, to assume leadership, and to arouse enthusiasm among people.”
When you’re able to build good relationships with people, you’ll find that business success comes to you naturally, because being a business owner and having customers, especially the ones who come back again and again, is about building relationships.
This is a critical skill that every entrepreneur who wants to be successful should be practicing.
You simply won’t have a full time business for long unless you put these strategies into practice to win your customers over and keep them loyal and coming back to you.
This is information that will never become outdated, standing the test of time for nearly 100 years.
In this episode let’s get into 3 ways to win and influence your buyers to come back to you over and over again, helping you grow and sustain your business and also keep them happy.
This episode is part 1 of a 4-part book series where I’ll be sharing and discussing advice from my favorite books on entrepreneurship, money & success, and how the advice from these books are helping me make more in my business this year.
This episode is called the laws of business success, and the book I’ll be sharing from is called the 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene.
In this episode let’s get into 5 indisputable laws of achieving business success as written in the 48 Laws Of Power.
As I mention from time to time here, generating money from your business is a numbers game.
The more targeted traffic you get to your store, the more sales you can expect to see if what you sell is in demand.
But how do you answer questions like, how many sales do I need to get in order to make enough money to pay my living expenses?
Or, how much money do I need to invest into this product in order to get X in revenue and from that, how much will I profit?
To answer these questions, you need to know exactly what your material costs, shipping costs, and cost of fees are from your selling platforms.
If you’re looking to quit your job and become a full-time business owner, you have to be able to answer questions like these which will help you set realistic financial goals, see into the future of your business and even predict how much you’ll need to invest until you make enough money to cover your living expenses.
Pretty exciting, right?
To visualize your success down the line, you need to have all of your numbers organized into something like a spreadsheet with formulas that automatically calculates these figures for you to give you the ability to see into the financial future of your business.
And in this episode I’ll be sharing how these formulas can help you be crystal clear about your numbers, and I’ll even be giving you these as a download, so stay tuned till the end of the episode to learn more about how to download my spreadsheet and get access to these formulas.

When we picture entrepreneurs, we might have this idea that they’re confident, courageous people who carve out their own paths in life, but one of these traits, confidence and courage, are much more necessary for success than that other.
In fact, if you were to lean on one of these traits alone, you’d simply never progress toward the business and the life that you want.
In this episode, I’m breaking down the difference between confidence and courage and which one is actually needed to accomplish your goals.
In fact, it’s the trait that connects all entrepreneurs like you and I and what separates us from those who simply aren’t meant to take the entrepreneurial path.

There are lots of ideas and opinions around entrepreneurship and building your own business - some that have lots of truth to them, and others that simply don’t.
Creatives like you who are looking into building and growing a sustainable business need to be able to discern what’s real when it comes to entrepreneurship.
Without this discernment, you’ll give up too soon, head in the wrong direction, or be persuaded by outside voices to stray away from being the business owner of your dreams.
In this episode, let’s talk about 5 myths surrounding entrepreneurship and what the real deal is.

When you’re a business owner, at some point in your journey you might experience someone trying to take advantage of you.
In fact, last year I talked about how I got scammed on Etsy in episode 70 where fraudulent buyers would target my digital listings, download them and request an automatic refund from Etsy so they basically got it for free.
Thankfully, Etsy has since changed their policy on digital downloads and now you can no longer request a refund on a digital item.
This story I’m about to tell you though happened to me a few years back when I was mainly selling original paintings.
Someone tried to get their hands on one of my $600 paintings for free, and if I had not already been aware of the red flags that many sellers miss, I could have become a victim of fraud.
In this episode, I’ll share what happened, all of the red flags that told me this was a scam, what would have happened if I didn’t know any better, and how to make sure you don’t get scammed yourself because people like this target creators just like you all the time.

A few months ago I had an experience I didn’t think would happen to me so soon since my shirt design business is less than a year old - I discovered that someone had ripped off a very popular design of mine on Etsy and was profiting off of my work.
Then I discovered that there was more than one seller who had stolen my designs.
The saying goes “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” but there’s a line between making a similar design, and stealing it completely.
They made no attempt to create a similar version of the design, it was ripped off pixel by pixel, completely identical.
This of course is a violation of my intellectual property, and I had to go through Etsy legal to have the listing removed.
In this episode I’ll share what happened, how I found out my design was being ripped off, and the process of handling copyright infringement and how you can avoid getting your designs ripped off and also how you can prevent infringing upon someone else’s intellectual property since this can get you into legal trouble, and you might be doing it unknowingly.
I’m someone who’s been in a relationship for some time, and I was dating around long before meeting my boyfriend. While I was in the dating phase I noticed a lot of similarities between dating someone and being a business owner.
These parallel each other in an interesting way, and being an entrepreneur has given me a unique perspective about dating and relationships and how I navigate them.
In this episode I’ll share 5 ways navigating business is like navigating the dating scene.
Q4 is the 4th quarter, from September through December, a time many businesses are preparing for one of the biggest sales seasons of the year.
This is because we have back-to-school, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and of course, Christmas.
This means many money making opportunities even if you’re just getting started, but you have to be prepared for Q4 well ahead of time to see the most results.
Last Q4 I was busy learning the marketplace, and I did manage to make my first 1000 sales between September and December of 2021.
However, after that experience I realized I started preparing for the holiday season way too late.
I started my holiday prep back in November when I really should have started much earlier, in September.
Even though I did get a large number of orders from mid-November through December, I didn’t consider all of the early buyers who purchase gifts for Christmas in early November and even October and September.
I’m not going to make that mistake again this year, this time I’m getting ready for Q4 early and in this episode, I’m helping you do the same so that you can maximize your sales during this season.
Many people have a negative association with failure, especially in business.
You might have heard the saying “fail fast and fail forward” and wondered, “why would I want to fail at all, shouldn’t I try to do my best to avoid failure as much as possible?”
Losing money sounds bad, having a product flop and get no sales seems like a negative, but in all the instances where I tried something in my business that didn’t go so well, it led me down a better path that ultimately exceeded my goals and expectations.
That means failure is necessary to achieve success.
In this episode, I’m sharing 3 reasons failure is the key to success, along with examples of failures in my own business and how these failures eventually led to success.
Hey friend, thanks for tuning into the Freelance To Full-Time podcast.
Are you currently feeling like you’re running on a hamster wheel trying to do everything in your business?
Do you feel like your business is running you more than you’re running it?
Are you always feeling like you’re catching up on work instead of staying ahead and being more relaxed?
Then this is the episode for you, because I’ll be talking about batching and how it’s kept me at minimum 3 whole months ahead of schedule without it taking a full 3 months of time to do so.
I don’t spend any more than a few hours a week on my business and on making content for this podcast, and that’s thanks to batching.
This means I’m not stressed out about what products I need to have on my store because I’ve already planned for them ahead of time.
This means I’m not going to run out of episodes because I wrote and recorded this very script 3 months ago (I’m recording in May), and by the time you hear this I will have content already written and scheduled for November.
That’s the power of batching, and as you know time is money, so by batching you will save time and generate more money in your business while reducing your workload and your stress levels.
Hey friend, today I wanted to talk about pricing for profit.
If you have a goal of growing your business so you can quit your 9-5, you need to have healthy profit margins because without them, you will either just break even or lose money which means you don’t have a business that’s generating more money than you’re putting into it, you just have an expensive hobby that costs you money which means you’ll never be able to quit.
You need to properly factor in your cost of goods, your labor, and other expenses like listing fees, transaction fees and ads.
Every business owner needs to know their numbers, think about all those contestants on shows like Shark Tank who know their yearly revenue, their cost of goods sold, their profit margins - you should know your business numbers that well, and after listening to this episode you’ll know how to calculate your profit margin, what a healthy profit margin is and how to adjust your prices if your profit margin is too small.
Hey friend, are you currently experiencing a plateau in your business growth?
Does it seem like you can’t scale past your current revenue or maybe you’re struggling to make any sales at all?
I have been where you are before many times, it can be so frustrating to not be able to make the sales you want.
So I thought back over the course of this decade that I’ve been making money online through my online businesses and came up with 4 of the biggest reasons I experienced a lack of growth in my business along with 4 strategies that helped me get past my struggle to make those orders and that helped me push past plateaus.
These are tips that will help you increase your sales, increase your revenue, and get closer to your goals.
Hey friend, thanks for tuning into the Freelance to Full-Time podcast.
Today I’m posing this question - is passive income a myth?
Can you have a business model that is 100% passive?
I’ve talked about passive income many times on the podcast. I shared that last year I pivoted my business model with the goal of generating income in a more passive way than I was before.
It’s been a change for the better because I no longer experience burnout and all of the negative consequences of having a business that runs you, instead of you running it.
Many people tout passive income business models as a way to have a completely hands-off business that runs automatically and makes money for you all day long and in your sleep while you get to go on vacation.
There are business models that are indeed more passive than others, my new digital design business is more passive than my previous art business where I was making each original painting by hand.
But there are still some common misconceptions about passive income that I feel need to be clarified to avoid confusion and just straight up delusion.
Hey friend, I’m excited to share my latest business venture which is selling on the biggest e-commerce platform in the world with over 200 million shoppers a month and counting, and that is Amazon.
I made my first $1000 on Amazon and I’m gonna share how I got started, and the whole process from finding products to sell, to finding a manufacturer to make the product for me, to when the sales started rolling in.
Hey friend, have you ever felt obsessed with your competition, other people selling the same or similar product to you?
Do you constantly check up on what other sellers are doing and constantly feel like you need to stay ahead?
Or maybe you feel like you can’t compete because they have more sales, more reviews and it makes you feel defeated?
It might feel like there’s no room for you to succeed if so many others are selling what you’re selling too.
This is episode 73 of the Freelance To Full-Time Podcast where I’ll share why I am never concerned about my competition, I am for the most part completely oblivious to what anyone else is doing for 3 main reasons, and not only are these reasons keeping me sane, I am bringing in sales without studying or even paying attention to competitors.

Hey friend, have you ever been part of an art show or have you wanted to be part of art shows because you want to get in front of more art buyers?
I’ve been hearing from so many of my subscribers that this has not been a profitable way for them to make money selling their art, and there are very simple explanations as to why art shows are not always a good way to make money.
This is episode 72 of the Freelance To Full-Time Podcast where I will share why artists should avoid art shows.

Hey friend, I am loving today’s topic because I realize that I have been an entrepreneur for a decade.
10 years ago, in 2012, when I was 18 I opened my Etsy store and that started this whole journey of entrepreneurship.
The things I sell on my store now are very different from what I was selling back then, but my Etsy store has always been an outlet for my creativity.
Back then I was selling hair accessories, then I sold knitted beanies for the winter, I actually didn’t sell art until maybe 2015.
And now I sell digital shirt designs so I’ve pivoted so much on this journey and now here I am 10 years later and I’ve been reflecting a lot about the things I’ve learned throughout this journey.
This is episode 71 of the Freelance To Full-Time Podcast where I will share six things I’ve learned from a decade of entrepreneurship.

Hey friend, so in today’s episode I am spilling the tea about Etsy and some of the weak spots in their system that is causing a huge issue particularly for digital sellers.
Etsy’s current system has allowed digital sellers such as myself to be scammed and allows fraudulent buyers to access our files for free.
This is something that if you are looking to sell digital products on Etsy as I am, you need to be aware of, and you also need to know how to resolve this issue.

Hey art friend, are you currently dealing with burnout?
As in, you’re feeling that sense of dread when it comes to your creativity, making your art, or maybe you even feel that dread when you make a sale because it means you have to pack and ship?
You are not alone, burnout is something many artpreneurs just like you are going through, it’s not a fun feeling at all and I want to help you not just get through it, but prevent it from happening ever again.
This is episode 69 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist Podcast where I’ll share how to prevent and cure burnout for good!
Hey art friend, are you struggling to grow your Instagram following?
These days it’s much more difficult to grow your page because new accounts are being made every day, Instagram is getting more and more saturated which means it’s harder to stand out, and of course there’s that pesky algorithm that reduces your visibility.
If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that I was able to grow my old Instagram to 10K followers in about 2-3 years, that was back in 2018 or so, but now that I have a brand new social media for my T-shirt design business, things are different now and it will be harder, but not impossible, to grow my new business page to 10K and beyond.
However, in order to get to 10K, first you need to reach a smaller milestone like 1000 followers.
This is episode 68 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist podcast where I’ll share my 0-1000 social media growth strategy.
I'll also have a downloadable PDF guide summarizing the most important tips for social media growth in the show notes at freelancetofulltimeartist.com/68
Hey art friend, have you been struggling to get sales and traffic to your Etsy store?
Traffic and visibility are key in making sales - the more targeted traffic you can drive to your store, the more sales you’ll generate.
Having a successful business is a numbers game and to drive those numbers to your store and increase your visibility on a huge marketplace like Etsy, ads are an excellent solution.
This is episode 67 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist Podcast where I’ll share how to properly use Etsy ads to boost your visibility and your sales without throwing tons of money down the drain.
I’ll also have a downloadable guide so that you’ll have these steps with you when you’re setting up and studying your ad analytics, it will be in the show notes at freelancetofulltimeartist.com/67
Hey art friend, what would it mean to you if you could cut the amount of time you spend on your art business in half or more?
What if you didn't have to spend hours painting, packing and shipping your work?
What if you could only spend a few hours a week on your business and had ample time to relax while your business generated money for you without you having to constantly work around the clock for it?
What if I told you I did all these things in my business in only a few months?
At the end of 2021, I changed my art business model to digital and was able to cut the amount of time I was spending on my work down to less than an hour a day, and I eliminated the need to pack or ship orders, turning my biz into a passive income generator.
This is episode 66 of the Freelance to Full-Time Artist podcast where I'll share 4 reasons why selling digital art beats selling physical art.
Hey art friend, thanks for tuning in.
Are you looking to get in front of more art buyers?
These 2 ladies, Christie and Tamara, co-founded a platform called Atizay that helps connect artists to buyers.
Listen to their story and learn how their platform can help you get your next sales, and give them a follow on Instagram!
I hope you enjoy this interview, and I’ll talk to you next week!
Hey art friend, thanks for tuning in.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to have a large volume of sales?
As in, getting multiple orders per hour, hundreds of orders a day?
Are you frustrated with only getting a couple of sales a week or a month?
This is episode 64 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist Podcast where I’ll be sharing actual data from my store showing exactly how I made over 2000 sales in a month and almost $10K.
I love numbers and data because it’s valuable information that shows you what’s working, what’s not working, and the months, days, and even hours that things are working or not working.
We’re gonna take a close look at what was happening during this 30 day timeline, why I got a spike in my sales and the strategies that led to this.
I’m also going to share why I had a lower number of sales during some periods because as you’ll hear in the episode, timing is a huge factor in seeing a large volume of sales.
Hey art friend, I have a question for you.
If I asked you to pay me one dollar and I handed you back $42, would you take me up on my offer?
What if I told you that there is a strategy that has a 42X ROI or return on investment that you can easily implement into your business?
What if I also told you that this strategy is something every single business needs, and that not having it could seriously make or break your ability to grow and scale your business further?
This strategy is called email marketing.
This is episode 63 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist Podcast where I’ll share what email marketing is, why your business absolutely needs an email list, and why email marketing has an ROI of 4200%.
Hey art friend, so today’s topic is one that might be somewhat of a sore subject for many artpreneurs, and that is bad reviews.
No one wants to get a negative review, but the truth is, the bigger your business becomes and the greater your reach, the more reviews you’ll get in general, and more than likely some of those will be one star reviews.
We all want to please our customers and make sure they have the best experience possible, but sometimes things are out of our control and customers can take that out on you.
If you want to grow your business full-time and be successful at this, it’s pretty much inevitable.
I know that sounds scary, especially if right now you have all five star reviews, but honestly if you have all five star reviews, your reach is not nearly big enough, and I say this because when you get to the point where you’re making hundreds of sales a day, and you have a big audience, again those bad reviews are inevitable.
Think about it. All of those huge stores like Sephora, Target, they all have one star reviews on some of their products.
There are no successful businesses out there that don’t have one star reviews, and if you want to be a successful business owner, this episode will help you embrace the inevitable and deal with them in stride.
This is episode 62 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist Podcast where I’ll share my experience getting one star reviews, not singular but plural, and how to deal with them and move past them.
Hey art friend, thanks for tuning in.
I’m really excited about today’s episode because I'll be revisiting my manifestation goals from last year.
These were six business and lifestyle goals that at the time I wanted to achieve, which I shared in episode 13from May of last year, so take a listen to episode 13if you haven’t already to get even more context about my goals, why I wanted to achieve them and where I was back then.
You’ll also be able to set similar goals for yourself that you can measure your progress on a year later.
Some of these goals are financial goals, and others are goals related to the lifestyle that I want my business to support.
In this episode, I’m going to go through each of my six goals and share how far along I’ve come in a year and if I was able to achieve them, how I reached them and how long it took me to.
As an artpreneur, it’s super important not only to set goals for your business, but you also want to set realistic goals that are measurable and that you can look back at later and see how far you’ve come in your journey.
If you’re just starting out on your artpreneur journey and you have a dream of having a business and growing it full time, I really hope this episode helps inspire you and helps show you that your goals are achievable, and even though it might not happen right away, when you put in the work over time, you’ll also be able to look back a year later and see how far you’ve come.
Remember, it’s not enough to dream, you have to put in the work, stay on top of trends, upload the listings, promote your art to the right audience, to get those sales rolling in.
Let me know, what are some of your goals that you’d like to achieve in your art business?
If you enjoy this episode, share in the comments below or if you’re listening to the audio, take a screenshot and share your thoughts on my Instagram @freelancetofulltime.
I can’t wait to hear your goals and I have no doubt that by putting the advice that I share on this podcast to action, you will be in a far better position one year later.
I can’t wait to see how far you come, and until next week friend, take care.
Hey art friend, have you ever seen those bestseller banners underneath an Etsy listing?
I’m sure it catches your attention because it’s an indication that that product is selling very well.
Have you ever wondered how you can get that banner underneath your product?
This is episode 60 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist podcast where I’ll share how I got the bestseller banner on not one, not two, but 3 of my products.
Yes, I had 3 bestselling products and in today’s episode, I’ll share how many sales it took to get me the banner and why this banner is helping me get even more sales.
Hey art friend, I’ve done it again.
I’ve pivoted my business in yet another direction.
But that’s the nature and the beauty of business, you’re not stuck doing the same thing forever.
I recently discovered how to use Etsy trends to see what people were buying, and when I changed my business from digital art prints to T-shirt designs, I hit over 1000 sales in a month.
This is episode 59 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist podcast where I’ll share how and why I went from selling digital art prints to T-shirt designs, and how my new passive income business has grown and evolved even more and is even easier to run than it was before.
I got hundreds and hundreds of new orders and my store hit over 1000 total orders in about a month.
Listen in to hear what went down!
Hey art friend, in my last episode, episode 57, I walked you through exactly how I made over $2K in passive art sales in a little under a month. I shared my actual numbers with you and you got to see how having a successful business is all a numbers game.
The more targeted traffic you can drive to your store, the more a percentage of that traffic will convert into sales.
This is episode 58 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist Podcast where I’ll share my vision for growing my business from 4 to 5 figures a month, from over $2K/month to over 10K a month in sales.
Because if you can make $2 online, you can make $20, and if you can make $20, you can make $200, and if you can make $200, you can make $2000, and $20,000, and $200,000, and even 2 million.
The sky is absolutely not the limit, and I have grand visions for my new passive income business, my first one being, how do I take this to the next level?
Hey art friend, so I shared a few episodes back that I launched my brand new passive income art business at the end of 2021, and within a few months, my store blew up.
It did take some time for my prints to get traction, but once it did, I had generated over 2K in sales and it hasn’t stopped, I’ve consistently been getting new orders every single day.
This new business of mine was not only far more successful than the art business I had for years, where I was selling mainly original paintings and commissions, but I didn’t even have to put in a fraction of the work because these were all passive sales.
No packing, no shipping, no fulfillment.
This is episode 57 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist podcast where I share my strategy for making my first 2K in passive art sales so you can implement these tips in your business too!
Hey art friend, we work so hard to provide the best, highest quality artwork we can to our customers, so when somebody asks us for a refund, it can really throw us off our game and make us lose confidence and question what we did wrong.

Maybe they weren’t happy with their purchase, maybe they decided that they just didn’t want to buy it, and are experiencing buyer's remorse.
Maybe their painting arrived damaged or got lost in the mail.
You can’t always control what happens to your painting during transit, and a customer requesting a refund is likely going to happen at some point in your journey.
Whatever the reason might be, I’m going to teach you how to handle refunds like a pro.
This is episode 56 of the Freelance To Full-Time Artist Podcast where I’ll share what to do when a customer wants a refund.

I got hundreds of orders recently, and unfortunately two of those customers had issues with their digital download, an issue that was beyond my control.

Hey there artpreneur, it's Precious here & I wanted to share my story & my journey so far because I want you to know a little more about me, & I think having context of my life & how I've grown my art business to where it's at now will better help you understand why I so badly want to turn my business full-time.
I'll share how I started my first creative business when I was just 18, how I balanced that business with being a full-time student chasing two science degrees, how I got into art in the first place, how I've been balancing my current art business with my full-time job in the sciences, & how all of these experiences have led me to where I am today, turning my business from freelance to full-time.
Does the topic of pricing your art just overwhelm or confuse you?
There are so many pricing guides out there, so how do you know which you should be using?
Are you wondering whether you're pricing your work too low or even too high?
In this episode, I'm removing all the confusion from pricing your artwork.
I'll be sharing how to price your art based on where you are in your business because this will change as your business grows & develops.
First, let's talk about why pricing your work correctly is so important.
Pricing does matter & it has a huge effect on how potential buyers view your artwork.
You don't want to underprice yourself because this sends a message to buyers that your work is cheap & low quality.
It also tends to attract bargain shoppers which are not the kind of customers I want & you probably don't either.
Additionally, your business needs to be profitable in order for it to become sustainable & one day, support you full-time.
That means you need to cover your expenses & pay yourself fairly for your time, & I'll share how to do that.
You also don't want to price too high because this turns off potential customers, & if you don't have the demand to back up your pricing, then no one will be willing to pay your high prices.
You want to price yourself fairly without turning off potential customers, & I'll share how to do that based on the stage of business you're in.
I love talking about numbers & I really hope that this helps you out with how to price your work, no matter what stage of business you're in.

Are you struggling to grow your Instagram following?

I'll share how I was able to grow my Instagram following to right around 10K followers back in 2019.
These are the exact tactics I used to grow my first page, including what hashtags to use, ways to increase your chances of going viral, how to get people to hit the follow button, pleasing the algorithm, & finally, creating a personal brand that shows through in all the aspects of your content to build trust in your audience & make new followers much more likely to be drawn to your content.

I have to be honest, it's really disappointing to hear artists say things like, "I don't have what it takes to paint that well," or "I'll never be that good at painting."
But what's even more disappointing is hearing artists say, "I wasn't born with natural talent."
Not only have they decided they can't do something, but they've also decided that it's out of their control.
Natural talent doesn't exist & I'm going to prove it in this episode!
This is merely an excuse to not try.
Painting is a skill, not a talent!
And that right there makes painting learnable for anyone of any age.
It starts with changing your mindset around succeeding at art, investing in your progress, & actually doing the work it takes to get there.
Have you hit a plateau when it comes to your art?
Do you feel like your skill level in painting portraits just isn't progressing the way you'd hoped?
Tired of searching endlessly for tutorials on YouTube that go too fast, are confusing, or that don't get you the results you want?
I know how frustrating it is to not see results and to not find information that actually helps.
This is where I was in 2015 before doing the one thing that changed the trajectory of my artwork forever.
This is episode 8, where I’ll be breaking down for you the five steps I took to improve my artwork exponentially over the last few years.
If you’re struggling to see improvement in your artwork, if you feel stuck & not sure how to level up your skills, this 5 step framework will help jumpstart your ability to start steadily growing in skill level as an artist.
This guide teaches you how to effectively study art & apply what you’ve learned, because there is a wrong way that was keeping me stuck at the same skill level for almost 2 years, as well as how to learn from your mistakes & start elevating fast.
Rinse & repeat these tips over several months & years & before you know it, your work will have immensely improved!
It can take a long time to see improvement with art, but I guarantee that by following this guideline, you will look back a year from now & be so proud of how far you’ve come.
I really hope you found this podcast inspiring, & I hope it gives you the energy to start creating some amazing artwork.
Why do so many artists have this fear of making mistakes in their work?
Whether it's being too afraid to try a new technique, leaving artwork unfinished because we're not proud of how it's turning out, having to start all over, or fear of others seeing our mistakes, this is a very limiting belief that you have to get over if you want to become a successful artist & especially if you want to do this full-time.
Fearing mistakes is holding you back from learning & improving.
My goal at the end of this episode is for you to no longer feel afraid to mess up, but to feel empowered every time you visit your canvas.
Yes, you read that right - I had an art Instagram page with close to 10K followers, I deleted it, & it was 110% worth it.
Just a few months later, I got more buyers for my work & more than doubled my sales by the end of 2020.
So why did I need to get rid of that big following, you might ask?
Well, I had to rebrand my art business because I had a mixed audience.
Of those 10K followers, most of them were other artists, others in my industry, & far fewer were actual collectors who had the desire & the means to buy my work.
I remember before getting rid of that page, I did a poll asking my audience if they were art collectors, or artists themselves.
Guess what - more than 80% said they were artists or admirers, not buyers.
The majority of my large audience wasn't even my target audience.
It was no wonder I was hardly making any sales back then.
You see, I had tried to brand my 10K page to target art collectors, & I had failed big time because I was unsuccessful in even attracting them.
Instead, I was talking to a different audience than I intended, the majority of which weren't even interested in what I had to offer.
It's no wonder that running that page felt totally exhausting & almost pointless.
Not only that, but it felt like I was reaching no one.
This was a huge mistake I made that I wanted to share with you so that you don't have to go through what I did.
In this episode, let's talk about why my old branding was attracting the wrong audience, what letting go of that page felt like (spoiler alert - it was soul crushing), how I dealt with those feelings by elevating my mindset around numbers & followers, how I've rebranded my art pages & how & why I was able to double my art sales by creating two separate brands.
Personal branding is the way you promote yourself to influence the public's perception of you, combining your skills, expertise, & personality to establish yourself as an expert & authority in your industry, increase your credibility, & differentiate yourself from your competition.
When you have a strong brand, your ideal customer will choose you over another artist if they strongly connect with your brand & trust you.
These 5 keystones to personal branding will help you stand out from the crowd & your competitors & give you an edge no one else has!
In this episode I wanted to address a limitation that I know a lot of artists struggle with, & that's artist block & the fear of the blank canvas.
If you find that you have trouble starting a painting, if it feels intimidating to you & you just can't seem to come up with an original idea, I'm going to be sharing the five tips I use that have helped me completely eliminate artist block.
If you're ready to become the artist you've always dreamed of being & you want to be able to easily start paintings, have ideas literally flowing onto the canvas, & you're ready to nip artist block in the bud for good, listen on!
We've all been there before - comparing ourselves to artists who are where we want to be.
Jealousy is a normal human emotion, but it shouldn't send you into a downward spiral of hopelessness about the progression of your art.
In today's podcast episode, I'm sharing why you should never compare your work to someone else's, how I use comparison in a healthy & positive way, & how to measure your own progress using a simple method (& yes, I can guarantee that you are succeeding & improving, even if you don't see it yourself.)
When you finish listening to this episode, my goal is for you to feel more confident, refreshed, & motivated to keep going on this journey!
If you're a freelance artist & you're struggling to find time to work on your art, I’m sharing my tips on how I balance painting with my full time job.
If you have a goal of becoming a full-time artist like I do, then these time management skills are absolutely necessary to your success.
I balanced my art with school & remained on the Dean's list & graduated with honors, & after I graduated & started working full time, I managed to double the revenue in my business with only half the time!
How did I do this? Not necessarily by working harder, but by working smarter.
I'll walk you through how I set goals for my business, & how I create a schedule that's designed to help me reach those goals.
